We study the evolution of primordial magnetic fields in an expanding cosmic plasma. For this purpose we present a comprehensive theoretical model to consider the evolution of MHD turbulence that can be used over a wide range of physical conditions, including cosmological and astrophysical applications. We model different types of decaying cosmic MHD turbulence in the expanding universe and characterize the large-scale magnetic fields in such a medium. Direct numerical simulations of freely decaying MHD turbulence are performed for different magnetogenesis scenarios: magnetic fields generated during cosmic inflation as well as electroweak and QCD phase transitions in the early universe.
Magnetic fields and fluid motions are strongly coupled due to the high Reynolds number in the early universe. Hence, we abandon the simple adiabatic dilution model to estimate magnetic field amplitudes in the expanding universe and include turbulent mixing effects on the large-scale magnetic field evolution. Numerical simulations have been carried out for non-helical and helical magnetic field configurations. The numerical results show the possibility of inverse transfer of energy in magnetically dominated non-helical MHD turbulence. On the other hand, decay properties of helical turbulence depend on whether the turbulent magnetic field is in a weakly or a fully helical state.
Our results show that primordial magnetic fields can be considered as a seed for the observed large-scale magnetic fields in galaxies and clusters. Bounds on the magnetic field strength are obtained and are consistent with the upper and lower limits set by observations of extragalactic magnetic fields.
The calculation results of the evolution of the cluster of primordial black holes based on the Fokker-Planck equation with neglecting of the gas accretion onto black holes are presented. In addition, we consider how a massive black hole located within the cluster center affects on its evolution. Despite it creates an additional potential in the central region of the cluster and might capture surrounding black holes, a negligible growth rate of a central black hole was shown for 1 Gyr. Furthermore, we find a significant (approximately tenfold) expansion of the cluster.
A possibility of pregalactic seeds of the Active Galactic Nuclei can be a nontrivial cosmological consequence of particle theory. Such seeds can appear as Primordial Black Hole (PBH) clusters, formed in the succession of phase transitions with spontaneous and then manifest breaking of the global U(1) symmetry. If the first phase transition takes place at the inflationary stage, a set of massive closed walls may be formed at the second phase transition and the collapse of these closed walls can result in formation of PBH clusters. We present the results of our studies of the evolution of such P…
We investigate the collapse of primordial gas in a minihalo with three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamics simulations that accurately model the transfer of H2 line emission. For this purpose, we have implemented a multiline, multifrequency ray-tracing scheme in the moving-mesh code Arepo that is capable of adaptively refining rays based on the Healpix algorithm, as well as a hybrid equilibrium/non-equilibrium primordial chemistry solver. We find that a multifrequency treatment of the individual H2 lines is essential, since for high optical depths the smaller cross-section in the wings of the …
In this work, we study the evolution of Primordial Black Holes within the context of Loop Quantum Gravity. First we calculate the scale factor and energy density of the universe for different cosmic era and then taking these as inputs we study evolution of primordial black holes. From our estimation it is found that accretion of radiation does not affect evolution of primordial black holes in loop quantum gravity even though a larger number of primordial black holes may form in early universe in comparison with Einstein's or scalar-tensor theories.
Anisotropies in distortions to the frequency spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) can be created through spatially varying heating processes in the early Universe. For instance, the dissipation of small-scale acoustic modes does create distortion anisotropies, in particular for non-Gaussian primordial perturbations. In this work, we derive approximations that allow describing the associated distortion field. We provide a systematic formulation of the problem using Fourier-space window functions, clarifying and generalizing previous approximations. Our expressions highlight the fac…
Scalar condensates with large expectation values can form in the early universe, for example, in theories with supersymmetry. The condensate can undergo fragmentation into Q-balls before decaying. If the Q-balls dominate the energy density for some period of time, statistical fluctuations in their number density can lead to formation of primordial black holes (PBH). In the case of supersymmetry the mass range is limited from above by $10^{23}$g. For a general charged scalar field, this robust mechanism can generate black holes over a much broader mass range, including the black holes with mass…
Possible existence of the primordial magnetic fields has affected the structure formation of the universe. In this paper it is shown that the initial conditions for density perturbations with magnetic fields derived in previous works are inconsistent with Einstein equations. We find that this inconsistency arises due to the unwanted cancellation of contributions from the magnetic fields and primordial radiations. A complete set of equations and consistent initial conditions in the long wavelength limit are given with an explicit derivation in the covariant approach with CDM frame, by newly tak…
We present a derivation of the time evolution equations for the energy content of nonhelical magnetic fields and the accompanying turbulent flows from first principles of incompressible magnetohydrodynamics in the general framework of homogeneous and isotropic turbulence. This is then applied to the early Universe, i.e., the evolution of primordial magnetic fields. Numerically integrating the equations, we find that most of the energy is concentrated at an integral wavenumber scale k_I where the turbulence turn over time equals the Hubble time. At larger length scales L, i.e., smaller wavenumb…
Thanks to the rapid progress in precision cosmology in the last few years, we now have access to physical observables that may constrain the theory of inflation through the non-Gaussianity (NG) signatures in the cosmic microwave background radiation and the distribution of large-scale structure. Numerical modeling of the NG signals from different inflation models is essential to correctly interpret current and near future data from large-scale structure surveys. In this study, we use high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamical simulations to investigate the effects of primordial NG on the form…
Primordial stars formed in the early universe are thought to be hosted by compact dark matter (DM) halos. If DM consists of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), such stars may be powered by DM annihilation during the early phases of their evolutions. We study the pre-main sequence evolutions of the primordial star using a detailed stellar evolution code under the assumption that the annihilation of adiabatically contracted WIMPs DM within the star provides a sufficient energy to sustain the stellar equilibrium. We follow the evolution of accreting stars using several gas mass accretio…
The hypermagnetic helicity density at the electroweak phase transition (EWPT) exceeds many orders of magnitude the galactic magnetic helicity density. Together with previous magnetic helicity evolution calculations after the EWPT and hypermagnetic helicity conversion to the magnetic one at the EWPT, the present calculation completes the description of the evolution of this important topological feature of cosmological magnetic fields. It suggests that if the magnetic field seeding the galactic dynamo has a primordial origin, it should be substantially helical. This should be taken into account…
Evolution of a cluster of primordial black holes in the two-body relaxation approximation based on the Fokker-Planck equation is discussed. In our calculation, we consider the self-gravitating cluster with a wide range of black holes masses from $10^{-4} M_{\odot}$ up to $100 M_{\odot}$ and the total mass $10^5 M_{\odot}$. Moreover, we included a massive black hole in the cluster center which determines the evolution rate of the density profile in its vicinity.
Several processes in the early universe might lead to the formation of primordial black holes with different masses. These black holes would interact with the cosmic plasma through accretion and emission processes. Such interactions might have affected the dynamics of the universe and generated a considerable amount of entropy. In this paper we investigate the effects of the presence of primordial black holes on the evolution of the early universe. We adopt a two-fluid cosmological model with radiation and a primordial black hole gas. The latter is modelled with different initial mass function…
Cosmic magnetic fields may be generated during early cosmic phase transition, such as the QCD- or electroweak- transitions. The magnitude of the remainder of such fields at the present epoch crucially depends on the exponent $n$ of their (initially super-Hubble) large-scale tail, i.e. B(lambda) ~ lambda^(-n). It has been claimed that causality requires n=5/2, contrary to much earlier claims of n=3/2. Here we analyze this question in detail. First, we note that contrary to current belief, the large-scale magnetic field tail is not established at the phase transition itself, but rather continuou…
The evolution with time of the abundance of galaxy clusters is very sensitive to the statistical properties of the primordial density perturbations. It can thus be used to probe small deviations from Gaussianity in the initial conditions. The characterization of such deviations would help distinguish between different inflationary scenarios, and provide us with information on physical processes which took place in the early Universe. We have found that when the information contained in the galaxy cluster counts is used to reconstruct the dark energy equation of state as a function of redshift,…
In this Paper we consider a problem of formation and evolution of orbital parameters of a binary primordial black hole (PBH) due to gravitational interaction with clustering cold dark matter (CDM). Mass and initial separation have values, which are appropriate for the problem of explanation of the LIGO/Virgo events by coalescing binary PBHs. We consider both radiation dominated and CDM dominated stages of the evolution using numerical and semi-analytical means. We show that at the end time of our numerical simulations binary's semimajor axis decreases by approximately one hundred times, while …
The evolution of primordial collapsing clouds and formation of proto-Population III stars are investigated using three-dimensional ideal MHD simulation. We calculated the evolution of magnetized primordial clouds from the prestellar stage until the epoch after the proto-Population III star formation, spatially resolving both parsec-scale clouds and sub-AU scale protostars. The formation process of proto-population III star is characterized by the ratio of rotational to magnetic energy of the parent cloud. When the rotational energy is larger than the magnetic energy, fragmentation occurs in th…
Primordial or big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) is one of the three historical strong evidences for the big bang model. Standard BBN is now a parameter free theory, since the baryonic density of the Universe has been deduced with an unprecedented precision from observations of the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. There is a good agreement between the primordial abundances of 4He, D, 3He and 7Li deduced from observations and from primordial nucleosynthesis calculations. However, the 7Li calculated abundance is significantly higher than the one deduced from spectrosc…
The universe is magnetized on all scales probed so far. On the largest scales, galaxies and galaxy clusters host magnetic fields at the micro Gauss level coherent on scales up to ten kpc. Recent observational evidence suggests that even the intergalactic medium in voids could host a weak $\sim 10^{-16}$ Gauss magnetic field, coherent on Mpc scales. An intriguing possibility is that these observed magnetic fields are a relic from the early universe, albeit one which has been subsequently amplified and maintained by a dynamo in collapsed objects. We review here the origin, evolution and signatur…
We study the evolution of primordail black holes by considering present universe is no more matter dominated rather vacuum energy dominated. We also consider the accretion of radiation, matter and vacuum energy during respective dominance period. In this scenario, we found that radiation accretion efficiency should be less than 0.366 and accretion rate is much larger than previous analysis by B. Nayak et al. \cite{ns}. Thus here primordial black holes live longer than previous works \cite{ns}. Again matter accretion slightly increases the mass and lifetime of primordial black holes. However, t…
Primordial black holes might comprise a significant fraction of the dark matter in the Universe and be responsible for the gravitational wave signals from black hole mergers observed by the LIGO/Virgo collaboration. The spatial clustering of primordial black holes might affect their merger rates and have a significant impact on the constraints on their masses and abundances. We provide some analytical treatment of the primordial black hole spatial clustering evolution, compare our results with some of the existing N-body numerical simulations and discuss the implications for the black hole mer…
Near extremal Kerr black holes are subject to the Thorne limit $a<a^*_{\rm lim}=0.998$ in the case of thin disc accretion, or some generalized version of this in other disc geometries. However any limit that differs from the thermodynamics limit $a^* < 1$ can in principle be evaded in other astrophysical configurations, and in particular if the near extremal black holes are primordial and subject to evaporation by Hawking radiation only. We derive the lower mass limit above which Hawking radiation is slow enough so that a primordial black hole with a spin initially above some generalized Thorn…
Primordial black holes which are created at the very early universe can get decayed in the matter dominated era and thus produce photons, hence resulting in dilution of the baryon asymmetry and evolution of the cosmological scale factor. This process is tested and calculated by considering instant decay approximation, the realistic model of universe expansion and also considering the LogNormal spectrum of the primordial blackholes.
Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) that form from the collapse of density perturbations are more clustered than the underlying density field. In a previous paper, we showed the constraints that this has on the prospects of PBH dark matter. In this paper we examine another consequence of this clustering: the formation of bound systems of PBHs in the early universe. These would hypothetically be the earliest gravitationally collapsed structures, forming when the universe is still radiation dominated. Depending upon the size and occupation of the clusters, PBH merging occurs before they would have oth…
A possible explanation for the origin of the magnetic fields observed today in matter structures is that they were generated in the primordial universe. After briefly revising the model of a primordial stochastic magnetic field and sketching the main features of its time evolution in the primordial plasma, we illustrate the current upper bounds on the magnetic field amplitude and spectral index from Cosmic Microwave Background observations and gravitational wave production. We conclude that a primordial magnetic field generated by a non-causal process such as inflation with a red spectrum seem…
The orbital evolution of a binary system consisting of two primordial black hole clusters is investigated. Such clusters are predicted in some theoretical models with broken symmetry in the inflation Lagrangian. A cluster consists of the most massive central black hole surrounded by many smaller black holes. Similar to single primordial black holes, clusters can form gravitationally bounded pairs and merge during their orbital evolution. The replacement of single black holes by such clusters significantly changes the entire merger process and the final rate of gravitational wave bursts in some…
The structure and evolution of Primordial Antimatter domains and Dark matter objects are analysed. Relativistic low-density antimatter domains are described. The Relativistic FRW perfect-fluid solution is found for the characterization of i) ultra-high density antimatter domains, ii) high-density antimatter domains, and iii) dense anti-matter domains. The possible sub-domains structures is analyzed. The structures evolved to the time of galaxy formation are outlined. Comparison is given with other primordial celestial objects. The features of antistars are outlined. In the case of WIMP dark ma…
Since Hubble and Lamaitre's discovery of the expanding universe using galaxies till the recent discovery of the accelerating universe using standard candles, direct measurements of the evolution of the scale factor of the universe a(t) have played central roles in establishing the standard model of cosmology. In this letter, we show that such a measurement may be extended to the primordial universe using massive fields as standard clocks, providing a direct evidence for the scenario responsible for the Big Bang. This is a short and non-technical introduction to the idea of classical and quantu…
It is usually assumed that when Weyl invariance is unbroken in the electromagnetic sector, the energy density of primordial magnetic fields will redshift as radiation. Here we show that primordial magnetic fields do not exhibit radiation-like redshifting in the presence of stronger electric fields, as a consequence of Faraday's law of induction. In particular for the standard Maxwell theory, magnetic fields on super-horizon scales can redshift as $B^2 \propto a^{-6} H^{-2}$, instead of the usually assumed $a^{-4}$. Taking into account this effect for inflationary magnetogenesis can correct pre…
We consider cosmological evolution in Brans-Dicke theory with a population of primordial black holes. Hawking radiation from the primordial black holes impacts various astrophysical processes during the evolution of the Universe. The accretion of radiation by the black holes in the radiation dominated era may be effective in imparting them a longer lifetime. We present a detailed study of how this affects various standard astrophysical constraints coming from the evaporation of primordial black holes. We analyze constraints from the present density of the Universe, the present photon spectrum,…
Measuring spectral distortions of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is attracting considerable attention as a probe of high energy particle physics in the cosmological context, since PIXIE and PRISM have recently been proposed. In this paper, CMB distortions due to resonant conversions between CMB photons and light axion like particles (ALPs) are investigated, motivated by the string axiverse scenario which suggests the presence of a plenitude of light axion particles. Since these resonant conversions depend on the strength of primordial magnetic fields, constraints on CMB distortions can …
We study the cosmological evolution of some nonlocal gravity models, when the initial conditions are set during a phase of primordial inflation. We examine in particular three models, the so-called RT, RR and $Δ_4$ models, previously introduced by our group. We find that the RR and $Δ_4$ models have a stable evolution also during inflation. The RT model has an apparent instability, but we show that, because of the smallness of the scale associated to the nonlocal term compared to the inflationary scale, this instability is innocuous and also the RT model has a viable evolution even when its in…
In a recent paper we had discussed possibility of DM at high redshifts forming primordial planets composed entirely of DM to be one of the reasons for not detecting DM (as the flux of ambient DM particles would be consequently reduced). In this paper we discuss the evolution of these DM objects as the Universe expands. As Universe expands there will be accretion of DM, helium and hydrogen layers (discussed in detail) on these objects. As they accumulate more and more mass, the layers get heated up leading to nuclear reactions which burn H and He when a critical thickness is reached. In the cas…
Primordial black holes in the mass range of ground-based gravitational-wave detectors can comprise a significant fraction of the dark matter. Mass and spin measurements from coalescences can be used to distinguish between an astrophysical or a primordial origin of the binary black holes. In standard scenarios the spin of primordial black holes is very small at formation. However, the mass and spin can evolve through the cosmic history due to accretion. We show that the mass and spin of primordial black holes are correlated in a redshift-dependent fashion, in particular primordial black holes w…
Primordial dark matter (DM) haloes are the smallest gravitationally bound DM structures from which the first stars, black holes, and galaxies form and grow in the early universe. However, their structures are sensitive to the free streaming scale of DM, which in turn depends on the nature of DM particles. In this work, we test the hypothesis that the slope of the central cusps in primordial DM haloes near the free streaming scale depends on the nature of merging process. By combining and analysing data from a cosmological simulation with the cutoff in the small-scale matter power spectrum as w…
In this work we consider a combined theoretical framework comprised by $F(R)$ gravity and a kinetic scalar field. The kinetic energy of the scalar field dominates over its potential for all cosmic times, and the kinetic scalar potential is chosen to be small and non-trivial. In this case, we show that the primordial gravitational wave energy spectrum of vacuum $F(R)$ gravity is significantly enhanced and can be detectable in future interferometers. The kinetic scalar thus affects significantly the inflationary era, since it extends its duration, but also has an overall amplifying effect on the…
Recent data suggest that the Universe could be positively curved. Combined with an inflationary stage, this might lead to a curvature bounce instead of the Big Bang. The background evolution is presented, as a function of the parameters controlling the cosmic evolution. The primordial tensor spectrum is also calculated and possible observational footprints of the model are underlined. Several potentials are considered and general remarks are made about "naturalness" in this context.
While loop quantum cosmology (LQC) predicts a robust quantum bounce of the background evolution of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetime prior to the standard slow-roll inflation, whereby the big bang singularity is resolved, there are several different quantization procedures to cosmological perturbations, for instance, {\em the deformed algebra, dressed metric, and hybrid quantizations}. This paper devotes to study the quantum bounce effects of primordial perturbations in the hybrid approach. The main discrepancy of this approach is the effective positive mass at the quantum bounce fo…
We investigate collisional decay of the axial charge in an electron-photon plasma at temperatures 10 MeV - 100 GeV. We demonstrate that the decay rate of the axial charge is first order in the fine-structure constant $Γ_{\rm flip}\propto αm_{e}^{2}/T$ and thus orders of magnitude greater than the naive estimate which has been in use for decades. This counterintuitive result arises through infrared divergences regularized at high temperature by environmental effects. The decay of axial charge plays an important role in the problems of leptogenesis and cosmic magnetogenesis.
The observational signatures of the first cosmic explosions and their chemical imprint on second-generation stars both crucially depend on how heavy elements mix within the star at the earliest stages of the blast. We present numerical simulations of the early evolution of Population III pair-instability supernovae with the new adaptive mesh refinement code CASTRO. In stark contrast to 15 - 40 Msun core-collapse primordial supernovae, we find no mixing in most 150 - 250 Msun pair-instability supernovae out to times well after breakout from the surface of the star. This may be the key to determ…
Since decoupling in the early universe in helicity states, primordial neutrinos propagating in astrophysical magnetic fields precess and undergo helicity changes. In view of the XENON1T experiment possibly finding a large magnetic moment of solar neutrinos, we estimate the helicity flipping for relic neutrinos in both cosmic and galactic magnetic fields. The flipping probability is sensitive both to the neutrino magnetic moment and the structure of the magnetic fields, thus potentially a probe of the fields. As we find, even a magnetic moment well below that suggested by XENON1T could signific…
We study the evolution of axions interacting with primordial magnetic fields (PMFs) starting just from the QCD phase transition in the expanding universe. This interaction is owing to the Primakoff effect. Adopting the zero mode approximation for axions, we derive the system of equations for axions and magnetic fields, where the expansion of the universe and the spectra of magnetic fields are accounted for exactly. We find that the contribution of the Primakoff effect to the dynamics of axions and magnetic fields is rather weak. It confirms some previous estimates leading to analogous conclusi…
We investigate production of primordial black holes from first-order electroweak phase transition in the framework of the nearly aligned Higgs effective field theory, in which non-decoupling quantum effects are properly described. Since the mass of such primordial black holes is evaluated to be about $10^{-5}$ of the solar mass, current and future microlensing observations such as Subaru HSC, OGLE, PRIME and Roman Space Telescope may be able to probe the electroweak phase transition. We study parameter regions where primordial black holes can be produced by the first-order electroweak phase tr…
We consider the presence and evolution of primordial density perturbations in a cosmological model based on a simple ansatz which captures -- by providing a set of effective gravitational field equations -- the strength of the enhanced quantum loop effects that can arise during inflation. After deriving the general equations that perturbations obey, we concentrate on scalar perturbations and show that their evolution is quite different than that of conventional inflationary models but still phenomenologically acceptable. The main reason for this novel evolution is the presence of an oscillatin…
We study the thermal evolution of primordial star-forming gas clouds using three-dimensional cosmological simulations. We critically examine how assumptions and approximations made in calculating radiative cooling rates affect the dynamics of the collapsing gas clouds. We consider two important molecular hydrogen cooling processes that operate in a dense primordial gas; H_2 line cooling and continuum cooling by H_2 collision-induced emission. To calculate the optically thick cooling rates, we follow the Sobolev method for the former, whereas we perform ray-tracing for the latter. We also run t…
We in this paper investigate the formation and evolution of primordial black holes (PBHs) in nonsingular bouncing cosmologies. We discuss the formation of PBH in the contracting phase and calculate the PBH abundance as a function of the sound speed and Hubble parameter. Afterwards, by taking into account the subsequent PBH evolution during the bouncing phase, we derive the density of PBHs and their Hawking radiation. Our analysis shows that nonsingular bounce models can be constrained from the backreaction of PBHs.
In this paper we study the generation of primordial perturbation with a modified dispersion relation in various cosmological evolutions. We stress that the formation of the power spectrum is strongly dependent on the background. Working in a bounce model with a matter-like contracting phase, we obtain a red tilt spectrum due to the modified dispersion relation.
Neutrino oscillations and mean-field effects considerably enrich the phenomenology of neutrino evolution in the early Universe. Taking into account these effects, most notably the neutrino self-interaction mean-field contribution, we revisit the problem of the evolution of primordial neutrino asymmetries including for the first time the complete expression for collisions, which describe scattering and annihilations with electrons/positrons and reactions among (anti)neutrinos. We show that a generalisation of the adiabatic transfer of averaged oscillations (ATAO) scheme, a numerical method prev…
The primordial abundance of deuterium produced during Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) depends sensitively on the universal ratio of baryons to photons, an important cosmological parameter probed independently by the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. Observations of deuterium in high-redshift, low-metallicity QSO Absorption Line Systems (QSOALS) provide a key baryometer, determining the baryon abundance at the time of BBN to a precision of 5%. Alternatively, if the CMB-determined baryon to photon ratio is used in the BBN calculation of the primordial abundances, the BBN-predicted deut…
