It is shown that the antiscalar approach to dark energy, whereby the energy-momentum tensor of the scalar field has the sign opposite to that of the rest of the matter, follows from the considerations of thermodynamic stability, as well as from the static limit of the Einstein-Maxwell equations. The same limit also demonstrates that the resulting background antiscalar field proves to be of quasi-electrostatic origin.
The Janis-Newman-Winicour and Papapetrou metrics represent counterparts to the Schwarzschild black hole with scalar and antiscalar background fields, correspondingly (where "anti" is to be understood as in "anti-de Sitter"). There is also a scalar counterpart (the Krori-Bhattacharjee metric) to the Kerr black hole. Here we study analytical connections between these solutions and obtain the exact rotational generalization of the antiscalar Papapetrou spacetime as a viable alternative to the Kerr black hole. The antiscalar metrics appear to be the simplest ones as they do not reveal event horizo…
With the goal of attempting to observe a stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) with LISA, the spectral separability of the cosmological and astrophysical backgrounds is important to estimate. We attempt to determine the level with which a cosmological background can be observed given the predicted astrophysical background level. We predict detectable limits for the future LISA measurement of the SGWB. Adaptive Markov chain Monte-Carlo methods are used to produce estimates with the simulated data from the LISA Data challenge (LDC). We also calculate the Cramer-Rao lower bound on the v…
In its observation band, the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) will simultaneously observe stochastic gravitational-wave background (SGWB) signals of different origins; orbitally modulated waveforms from galactic white dwarf binaries, a binary black hole produced background, and possibly a cosmologically produced SGWB. We simulate the emission of gravitational waves from galactic white dwarf binaries based on the Lamberts \cite{Lamberts} distributions and determine a complex waveform from the galactic foreground. We generate the modulated galactic signal detected by LISA due to its orb…
Gravitational waves are inevitably produced by second order terms in cosmological perturbation theory. Most notably, the so-called induced gravitational waves are a window to the small scales part of the primordial spectrum of fluctuations and a key counterpart to the primordial black hole scenario. However, semi-analytical solutions are only known for matter and radiation domination eras. In this paper, we present new analytic integral formulas for the induced gravitational waves on subhorizon scales in a general cosmological background with a constant equation of state. We also discuss appli…
Energy momentum tensor of a conformally coupled quantum scalar field in five dimensional warped cosmological spacetimes is studied. We look at situations where the four dimensional part represents a cosmological thick brane and the scale of the extra dimension is time dependent. Renormalization of the components of the energy momentum tensor is achieved using adiabatic regularization method. The resulting energy and pressure densities explicitly show the effects of warping and the dynamic extra dimension on the created matter. We discussed how the created matter may accumulate to form thick br…
We investigate the ability of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) to detect a stochastic gravitational-wave background (GWB) produced by cosmic strings, and to subsequently estimate the string tension $Gμ$ in the presence of instrument noise, an astrophysical background from compact binaries, and the galactic foreground from white dwarf binaries. Fisher Information and Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods provide estimates of the LISA noise and the parameters for the different signal sources. We demonstrate the ability of LISA to simultaneously estimate the galactic foreground, as well a…
The recent Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo joint observing runs have not claimed a stochastic gravitational-wave background detection, but one expects this to change as the sensitivity of the detectors improves. The challenge of claiming a true detection will be immediately succeeded by the difficulty of relating the signal to the sources that contribute to it. In this paper, we consider backgrounds that comprise compact binary coalescences and additional cosmological sources, and we set simultaneous upper limits on these backgrounds. We find that the Advanced LIGO, Advanced Virgo network, op…
In this paper, we have investigated some accelerating cosmological models at the backdrop of an anisotropic metric in an extended gravity theory. Two viable cosmological models one with a little rip behaviour and the other with a hyperbolic form of Hubble parameter have been constructed. The dynamical aspects of the models along with some physical and geometrical parameters are analysed. Both the models presented here evolve in the phantom-like region and overlap with $Λ$CDM model at late times. We carried out a geometrical diagnosis of the model to show the viability of the models.
The point-splitting renormalization method offers a prescription to calculate finite expectation values of quadratic operators constructed from quantum fields in a general curved spacetime. It has been recently shown by Levi and Ori that when the background metric possesses an isometry, like stationary or spherically symmetric black holes, the method can be upgraded into a pragmatic procedure of renormalization that produces efficient numerical calculations. In this note we show that when the background enjoys three-dimensional spatial symmetries, like homogeneous expanding universes, the abov…
The present work investigates some exact solutions of the gravitational wave equation in some widely used cosmological spacetimes. The examples are taken from spatially flat and closed isotropic models as well as Kasner metric which is anisotropic. Various matter distributions are considered, from the standard dust or radiation distribution to exotic matters like that with an equation of state $P = - \frac{1}{3} ρ$. In almost all cases the frequency and amplitude of the wave are found to be decaying with evolution, except for a closed radiation universe where there is a resurgence of the wavef…
General Relativity provides us with an extremely powerful tool to extract at the same time astrophysical and cosmological information from the Stochastic Gravitational Wave Backgrounds (SGWBs): the cross-correlation with other cosmological tracers, since their anisotropies share a common origin and the same perturbed geodesics. In this letter we explore the cross-correlation of the cosmological and astrophysical SGWBs with Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies, showing that future GW detectors, such as LISA or BBO, have the ability to measure such cross-correlation signals. We also pr…
