We study the thermoelectric properties of monolayers of MoS$_{2}$ and other group-VI dichalcogenides under circularly polarized off-resonant light. Analytical expressions are derived for the Berry phase mediated magnetic moment, orbital magnetization, as well as thermal and Nernst conductivities. Tuning of the band gap by {\it off-resonant} light enhances the spin splitting in both the valence and conduction bands and, thus, leads to a dramatic improvement of the spin and valley thermoelectric properties.
Ultrathin layers of semiconducting molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) offer significant prospects in future electronic and optoelectronic applications. Although an increasing number of experiments bring light into the electronic transport properties of these crystals, their thermoelectric properties are much less known. In particular, thermoelectricity in chemical vapor deposition grown MoS2, which is more practical for wafer-scale applications, still remains unexplored. Here, for the first time, we investigate these properties in grown single layer MoS2. Micro-fabricated heaters and thermometers are…
The introduction of 'twist' or relative rotation between two atomically thin van der Waals (vdW) membranes gives rise to periodic Moire potential, leading to a substantial altercation of the band structure of the planar assembly. While most of the recent experiments primarily focus on the electronic-band hybridization by probing in-plane transport properties, here we report out-of-plane thermoelectric measurements across the van der Waals gap in twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG), which exhibits an interplay of twist-dependent inter-layer electronic and phononic hybridization. We show that at a l…
The thermoelectric figures of merit of pristine two-dimensional materials are predicted to be significantly less than unity, making them uncompetitive as thermoelectric materials. Here we elucidate a new strategy that overcomes this limitation by creating multi-layer nanoribbons of two different materials and allowing thermal and electrical currents to flow perpendicular to their planes. To demonstrate this enhancement of thermoelectric efficiency ZT, we analyse the thermoelectric performance of monolayer molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) sandwiched between two graphene monolayers and demonstrate t…
Thermoelectric energy conversion is perhaps the most promising of the potential applications of molecular electronics. Ultimately, it is desirable for this technology to operate at around room temperature, and it is therefore important to consider the role of dissipative effects in these conditions. Here, we develop a theory of thermoelectricity which accounts for the vibrational coupling within the framework of Marcus theory. We demonstrate that the inclusion of lifetime broadening is necessary in the theoretical description of this phenomenon. We further show that the Seebeck coefficient and…
Topological Insulators are the best thermoelectric materials involving a sophisticated physics beyond their solid state and electronic structure. We show that exists a topological contribution to the thermoelectric effect that arise between topological and thermal quantum field theories applied at very low energies. This formalism provides us with a quantized topological mass proportional to the temperature T, being both quantities directly related with an electric potential V and getting a Seebeck coefficient where we identify an anomalous contribution that we associate to the creation of rea…
We study the transport properties of monolayer MX2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se, Te) n- and p- channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) using full-band ballistic non-equilibrium Green's function simulations with an atomistic tight-binding Hamiltonian with hopping potentials obtained from density functional theory. We discuss the subthreshold slope, drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL), as well as gate-induced drain leakage (GIDL) for different monolayer MX2 MOSFETs. We also report the possibility of negative differential resistance behavior in the output characteristics o…
The electronic structure of monolayer MoS$_2$ nanoribbons and quantum dots have been investigated by means of an effective $\mathbf{k}\cdot \mathbf{p}$ two-band model. Both systems with borders exhibit states spatially localized on the edges and with energies lying in the band gap. We show that the conduction and valence band curvatures determine the presence/absence of these states whose origin has been related to the marginal topological properties of the MoS$_2$ single-valley Hamiltonian.
Monolayer films of transition metal dichalcogenides (in particular, MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, and WSe2) can be considered as ideal systems for the studies of high-temperature electron-hole liquids. The quasi-two-dimensional nature of electrons and holes ensures their stronger interaction as compared to that in bulk semiconductors. The screening of the Coulomb interaction in monolayer heterostructures is significantly reduced, since it is determined by the permittivities of the environment (e.g., vacuum and substrate), which are much lower than those characteristic of the films of transition metal dich…
We present low temperature magneto-photoluminescence experiments which demonstrate the brightening of dark excitons by an in-plane magnetic field $B$ applied to monolayers of different semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides. For both WSe$_2$ and WS$_2$ monolayers, the dark exciton emission is observed at $\sim$50 meV below the bright exciton peak and displays a characteristic doublet structure which intensity is growing with $B^2$, while no magnetic field induced emission peaks appear for MoSe$_2$ monolayer. Our experiments also show that the MoS$_2$ monolayer has a dark exciton groun…
Density functional theory calculations are used to show that it is possible to dope semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) such as MoS$_2$ and WS$_2$ with electrons and/or holes either by chemical substitution or by adsorption on the sulfur layer. Notably, the activation energies of Lithium and Phosphorus, a shallow donor and a shallow acceptor, respectively, are smaller than 0.1 eV. Substitutional halogens are also proposed as alternative donors adequate for different temperature regimes. All dopants proposed result in very little lattice relaxation and, hence, are expected to …
The effect of a magnetic field on the optical absorption in semiconductors has been measured experimentally and modeled theoretically for various systems in previous decades. We present a new first-principles approach to systematically determine the response of excitons to magnetic fields, i.e. exciton $g$ factors. By utilizing the $GW$-Bethe-Salpeter equation methodology we show that $g$ factors extracted from the Zeeman shift of electronic bands are strongly renormalized by many-body effects which we trace back to the extent of the excitons in reciprocal space. We apply our approach to monol…
Efficient heat dissipation to the substrate is crucial for optimal device performance in nanoelectronics. We develop a theory of electronic thermal boundary conductance (TBC) mediated by remote phonon scattering for the single-layer transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) semiconductors MoS$_{2}$ and WS$_{2}$, and model their electronic TBC with different dielectric substrates (SiO$_{2}$, HfO$_{2}$ and Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$). Our results indicate that the electronic TBC is strongly dependent on the electron density, suggesting that it can be modulated by the gate electrode in field-effect transistors,…
Since their discovery single-layer semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides have attracted much attention thanks to their outstanding optical and mechanical properties. Strain engineering in these two-dimensional materials aims to tune their bandgap energy and to modify their optoelectronic properties by the application of external strain. In this paper we demonstrate that biaxial strain, both tensile and compressive, can be applied and released in a timescale of a few seconds in a reproducible way on transition metal dichalcogenides monolayers deposited on polymeric substrates. We can …
The performance limits of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide transistors are examined with a ballistic MOSFET model. Using ab-initio theory, we calculate the band structures of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalco-genide (MX2). We find the lattice structures of monolayer MX2 remain the same as the bulk MX2. Within the ballistic regime, the performances of monolayer MX2 transistors are better compared to the silicon transistors if thin high-κ gate insulator is used. This makes monolayer MX2 promising 2D materials for future nanoelectronic device applications.
We derive the boundary conditions for MoS$_2$ and similar transition-metal dichalcogenide honeycomb (2H polytype) monolayers with the same type of $\mathbf{k}\!\cdot\!\mathbf{p}$ Hamiltonian within the continuum model around the K points. In an effective 2-band description, the electron-hole symmetry breaking quadratic terms are also taken into account. We model the effect of the edges with a linear edge constraint method that has been applied previously to graphene. Focusing mainly on zigzag edges, we find that different reconstruction geometries with different edge-atoms can generally be des…
We present $\mathbf{k}\cdotp\mathbf{p}$ Hamiltonians parametrised by {\it ab initio} density functional theory calculations to describe the dispersion of the valence and conduction bands at their extrema (the $K$, $Q$, $Γ$, and $M$ points of the hexagonal Brillouin zone) in atomic crystals of semiconducting monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides. We review the parametrisation of the essential parts of the $\mathbf{k}\cdotp\mathbf{p}$ Hamiltonians for MoS$_2$, MoSe$_2$, WS$_2$, and WSe$_2$, including the spin-splitting and spin-polarisation of the bands, and we discuss the vibrational prope…
Although single-layer transition-metal dichalcogenides with novel valley functionalities are promising candidate to realize valleytronic devices, the essential understanding of valley depolarization mechanisms is still incomplete. Based on pump-probe experiments performed for MoSe2 and WSe2 monolayers and corroborating analysis from density functional calculations, we demonstrate that coherent phonons at the K-point of the Brillouin zone can effectively mediate the valley transfer of electron carriers. In the MoSe2 monolayer case, we identify this mode as the flexural acoustic ZA(K) mode, whic…
We have obtained analytical expressions for the q-dependent static spin susceptibility of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides, considering both the electron-doped and hole-doped cases. Our results are applied to calculate spin-related physical observables of monolayer MoS2, focusing especially on in-plane/out-of-plane anisotropies. We find that the hole-mediated RKKY exchange interaction for in-plane impurity-spin components decays with the power law $R^{-5/2}$ as a function of distance $R$, which deviates from the $R^{-2}$ power law normally exhibited by a two-dimensional Fermi liquid.…
We study in-plane lateral heterostructures of commensurate transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as MoS$_{2}$-WS$_{2}$ and MoSe$_{2}$-WSe$_{2}$, and find interfacial and edge states that are highly localized to these regions of the heterostructure. These are one-dimensional (1D) in nature, lying within the bandgap of the bulk structure and exhibiting complex orbital and spin structure. We describe such heteroribbons with a three-orbital tight-binding model that uses first principles and experimental parameters as input, allowing us to model realistic systems. Analytical modeling for the 1D in…
We study the electronic band structure in the K/K' valleys of the Brillouin zone of monolayer WSe2 and MoSe2 by optical reflection and photoluminescence spectroscopy on dual-gated field-effect devices. Our experiment reveals the distinct spin polarization in the conduction bands of these compounds by a systematic study of the doping dependence of the A and B excitonic resonances. Electrons in the highest-energy valence band and the lowest-energy conduction band have antiparallel spins in monolayer WSe2, and parallel spins in monolayer MoSe2. The spin splitting is determined to be hundreds of m…
We study the neutral exciton energy spectrum fine structure and its spin dephasing in transition metal dichalcogenides such as MoS$_2$. The interaction of the mechanical exciton with its macroscopic longitudinal electric field is taken into account. The splitting between the longitudinal and transverse excitons is calculated by means of the both electrodynamical approach and $\mathbf k \cdot \mathbf p$ perturbation theory. This long-range exciton exchange interaction can induce valley polarization decay. The estimated exciton spin dephasing time is in the picosecond range, in agreement with av…
Proximity orbital and spin-orbital effects of graphene on monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are investigated from first-principles. The Dirac band structure of graphene is found to lie within the semiconducting gap of TMDCs for sulfides and selenides, while it merges with the valence band for tellurides. In the former case the proximity-induced staggered potential gaps and spin-orbit couplings (all on the meV scale) of the Dirac electrons are established by fitting to a phenomenological effective Hamiltonian. While graphene on MoS$_2$, MoSe$_2$, and WS$_2$ has a topologically …
Hybrids of graphene and two dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC) have the potential to bring graphene spintronics to the next level. As we show here by performing first-principles calculations of graphene on monolayer MoS$_2$, there are several advantages of such hybrids over pristine graphene. First, Dirac electrons in graphene exhibit a giant global proximity spin-orbit coupling, without compromising the semimetallic character of the whole system at zero field. Remarkably, these spin-orbit effects can be very accurately described by a simple effective Hamiltonian. Second, the …
We report a photoluminescence (PL) and transient reflection spectroscopy study of exciton dynamics in monolayer transition transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). PL saturation in monolayer MoSe2 occurs an excitation intensity more than two orders of magnitude lower than in monolayer MoS2. Transient reflection shows that the nonlinear exciton-exciton annihilation is the dominant exciton decay process in monolayer MoSe2 in contrast to the previously reported linear exciton decay in monolayer MoS2. In addition, the exciton lifetime in MoSe2, > 125 ps, is more than an order of magnitude longer t…
Reflectance and magneto-reflectance experiments together with theoretical modelling based on the $\mathbf{k\cdot p}$ approach have been employed to study the evolution of direct bandgap excitons in MoS$_2$ layers with a thickness ranging from mono- to trilayer. The extra excitonic resonances observed in MoS$_2$ multilayers emerge as a result of the hybridization of Bloch states of each sub-layer due to the interlayer coupling. The properties of such excitons in bi- and trilayers are classified by the symmetry of corresponding crystals. The inter- and intralayer character of the reported excito…
We study the refraction effect of electronic wave in hole-doped lateral heterojunctions of metallic and semiconducting transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers. This effect is theoretically investigated in 2$H$-type MoSe$_2$-NbS$_2$ and WSe$_2$-NbS$_2$ junctions by combining the first-principles calculation and the lattice Green's function method. We show that the electronic waves change the direction of motion at the interface and collimate the velocity along two different directions depending on the spin. We find that the transmission probability increases with the charge density and that …
Within a two-band $k\cdot p$ method we analyze different types of strain for the $K$ valley optical characteristics of a freestanding monolayer MoS$_2$, MoSe$_2$, WS$_2$ and WSe$_2$. We predict that circular polarization selectivity for energies above the direct transition onset deteriorates/improves by tensile/compressive strain. Wide range of available strained-sample photoluminescence data can be reasonably reproduced by this simple bandstructure combined with accounting for excitons at a variational level. According to this model strain impacts optoelectronic properties through its hydrost…
We present results on the radiative lifetimes of excitons and trions in a monolayer of metal dichalcogenide MoS2. The small exciton radius and the large exciton optical oscillator strength result in radiative lifetimes in the 0.18-0.30 ps range for excitons that have small in-plane momenta and couple to radiation. Average lifetimes of thermally distributed excitons depend linearly on the exciton temperature and can be in the few picoseconds range at small temperatures and more than a nanosecond near room temperature. Localized excitons exhibit lifetimes in the same range and the lifetime incre…
We report a systematic study on strong enhancement of spin-orbit interaction (SOI) in graphene driven by transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Low temperature magnetotoransport measurements of graphene proximitized to different TMDs (monolayer and bulk WSe$_2$, WS$_2$ and monolayer MoS$_2$) all exhibit weak antilocalization peaks, a signature of strong SOI induced in graphene. The amplitudes of the induced SOI are different for different materials and thickness, and we find that monolayer WSe$_2$ and WS$_2$ can induce much stronger SOI than bulk ones and also monolayer MoS$_2$. The estimate…
We report on a theoretical study of the spin Hall Effect (SHE) and weak antilocal-ization (WAL) in graphene/transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) heterostructures, computed through efficient real-space quantum transport methods, and using realistic tight-binding models parametrized from ab initio calculations. The graphene/WS 2 system is found to maximize spin proximity effects compared to graphene on MoS 2 , WSe 2 , or MoSe 2 , with a crucial role played by disorder, given the disappearance of SHE signals in the presence of strong intervalley scattering. Notably, we found that stronger WAL e…
We present an accurate \textit{ab-initio} tight-binding hamiltonian for the transition-metal dichalcogenides, MoS$_2$, MoSe$_2$, WS$_2$, WSe$_2$, with a minimal basis (the \textit{d} orbitals for the metal atoms and \textit{p} orbitals for the chalcogen atoms) based on a transformation of the Kohn-Sham density function theory (DFT) hamiltonian to a basis of maximally localized Wannier functions (MLWF). The truncated tight-binding hamiltonian (TBH), with only on-site, first and partial second neighbor interactions, including spin-orbit coupling, provides a simple physical picture and the symmet…
The rich phenomenology of plasmonic excitations in the dichalcogenides is analyzed as a function of doping. The many-body polarization, the dielectric response function and electron energy loss spectra are calculated using an ab initio based model involving material-realistic Coulomb interactions, band structure and spin-orbit coupling. Focusing on the representative case of MoS$_2$, a plethora of plasmon bands are observed, originating from scattering processes within and between the conduction or valence band valleys. We discuss the resulting square-root and linear collective modes, arising …
We investigate the electronic transport property of lateral heterojunctions of semiconducting and metallic transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers, MoSe$_2$ and NbSe$_2$, respectively. We calculate the electronic transmission probability by using a multi-orbital tight-binding model based on the first-principles band structure. The transmission probability depends on the spin and valley degrees of freedom. This dependence qualitatively changes by the interface structure. The heterostructure with a zig-zag interface preserves the spin and the valley of electron in the transmission process. On…
In this paper we develop the excitonic theory of Kerr rotation angle in a two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide at zero magnetic field. The finite Kerr angle is induced by the interplay between spin-orbit splitting and proximity exchange coupling due to the presence of a ferromagnet. We compare the excitonic effect with the single particle theory approach. We show that the excitonic properties of the 2D material lead to a dramatic change in the frequency dependence of the optical response function. We also find that the excitonic corrections enhance the optical response by a fac…
We show that H-phase transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) monolayers such as MoS$_2$ and WSe$_2$, are orbital Hall insulators. They present very large orbital Hall conductivity plateaus in their semiconducting gap, where the spin Hall conductivity vanishes. Our results open the possibility of using TMDs for orbital current injection and orbital torque transfers that surpass their spin-counterparts in spin-orbitronics devices. The orbital Hall effect (OHE) in TMD monolayers occurs even in the absence of spin-orbit coupling. It can be linked to exotic momentum-space Dresselhaus-like orbital t…
Spin and valley dependent anomalous Nernst effect are analyzed for monolayer MoS2 and other group-VI dichalcogenides. We find that pure spin and valley currents can be generated perpendicular to the applied thermal gradient in the plane of these two-dimensional materials. This effect provides a versatile platform for applications of spin caloritronics. A spin current purity factor is introduced to quantify this effect. When time reversal symmetry is violated, e.g. two-dimensional materials on an insulating magnetic substrate, a dip-peak feature appears for the total Nernst coefficient. For the…
We study the pseudo-spin of electron pair in superconducting transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers and show that the pseudo-spin affects the electric transport property of lateral heterojunction of the superconducting and metallic monolayers. The pseudo-spins of two electrons forming a Cooper pair are parallel to each other unlike the real spins being anti-parallel. In the lateral heterojunction, the electronic transport with forming a Cooper pair, the Andreev reflection, is suppressed with the Fermi level crossing the valence band near the edge in the metallic monolayer. We numerically i…
We show that inversion symmetry breaking together with spin-orbit coupling leads to coupled spin and valley physics in monolayers of MoS2 and other group-VI dichalcogenides, making possible controls of spin and valley in these 2D materials. The spin-valley coupling at the valence band edges suppresses spin and valley relaxation, as flip of each index alone is forbidden by the valley contrasting spin splitting. Valley Hall and spin Hall effects coexist in both electron-doped and hole-doped systems. Optical interband transitions have frequency-dependent polarization selection rules which allow s…
We measure the optical absorption spectra and optical conductivities of excitons and trions in monolayers of metal dichalcogenide MoS$_{2}$ and compare the results with theoretical models. Our results show that the Wannier-Mott model for excitons, with modifications to account for small exciton radii and large exciton relative wavefunction spread in momentum space, phase space blocking due to Pauli exclusion in doped materials, and wavevector dependent dielectric constant, gives results that agree well with experiments. The measured exciton optical absorption spectra are used to obtain experim…
We present a density functional theory parametrized hybrid k$\cdot$p tight binding model for electronic properties of atomically thin films of transition-metal dichalcogenides, 2H-$MX_2$ ($M$=Mo, W; $X$=S, Se). We use this model to analyze intersubband transitions in $p$- and $n$-doped $2{\rm H}-MX_2$ films and predict the line shapes of the intersubband excitations, determined by the subband-dependent two-dimensional electron and hole masses, as well as excitation lifetimes due to emission and absorption of optical phonons. We find that the intersubband spectra of atomically thin films of the…
We demonstrate the reduction of the inhomogeneous linewidth of the free excitons in atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) MoSe$_{2}$, WSe$_{2}$ and MoS$_{2}$ by encapsulation within few nanometer thick hBN. Encapsulation is shown to result in a significant reduction of the 10K excitonic linewidths down to $\sim3.5 \text{ meV}$ for n-MoSe$_{2}$, $\sim5.0 \text{ meV}$ for p-WSe$_{2}$ and $\sim4.8 \text{ meV}$ for n-MoS$_{2}$. Evidence is obtained that the hBN environment effectively lowers the Fermi level since the relative spectral weight shifts towards the neutral exciton em…
Twisted bilayer transition metal dichalcogenides are ideal platforms to study flat-band phenomena. In this paper, we investigate flat-band plasmons in the hole-doped twisted bilayer MoS$_2$ (tb-MoS$_2$) by employing a full tight-binding model and the random phase approximation. When considering lattice relaxations in tb-MoS$_2$, the flat band is not separated from remote valence bands, which makes the contribution of interband transitions in transforming the plasmon dispersion and energy significantly different. In particular, low-damped and quasi-flat plasmons emerge if we only consider intra…
Janus transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) lose the horizontal mirror symmetry of ordinary TMDs, leading to the emergence of additional features, such as native piezoelectricity, Rashba effect, and enhanced catalytic activity. While Raman spectroscopy is an essential nondestructive, phase- and composition-sensitive tool to monitor the synthesis of materials, a comprehensive study of the Raman spectrum of Janus monolayers is still missing. Here, we discuss the Raman spectra of WSSe and MoSSe measured at room and cryogenic temperatures, near and off resonance. By combining polarization-resolv…
Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been in focus of current research, among others due to their remarkable exciton landscape consisting of bright and dark excitonic states. Although dark excitons are not directly visible in optical spectra, they have a large impact on exciton dynamics and hence their understanding is crucial for potential TMD-based applications. Here, we study brightening mechanisms of dark excitons via interaction with phonons and in-plane magnetic fields. We show clear signatures of momentum- and spin-dark excitons in WS$_2$, WSe$_2$ and MoS$_2$, while th…
Strain in two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) has led to localized states with exciting optical properties, in particular in view of designing one photon sources. The naturally formed of the MoS2 monolayer deposed on hBN substrate leads to a reduction of the bandgap in the strained region creating a nanobubble. The photogenerated particles are thus confined in the strain-induced potential. Using numerical diagonalization, we simulate the spectra of the confined exciton states, their oscillator strengths and radiative lifetimes. We show that a single state of the confined…
The multimode Brownian oscillator model is employed to simulate the emission spectra of transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers. Good agreement is obtained between measured and simulated photoluminescence spectra of WSe2, WS2, MoSe2 and MoS2 at various temperatures. The Huang-Rhys factor extracted from the model can be associated with that from the modified semi-empirical Varshni equation at high temperatures. Individual mechanisms leading to the unique temperature-dependent emission spectra of those TMDs are validated by the MBO fitting, while it is in turn confirmed that the MBO analysis …
In this work, we provide an effective model to evaluate the one-electron dipole matrix elements governing optical excitations and the photoemission process of single-layer (SL) and bilayer (BL) transition metal dichalcogenides. By utilizing a $\vec{k} \cdot \vec{p}$ Hamiltonian, we calculate the photoemission intensity as observed in angle-resolved photoemission from the valence bands around the $\bar{K}$-valley of MoS$_2$. In SL MoS$_2$ we find a significant masking of intensity outside the first Brillouin zone, which originates from an in-plane interference effect between photoelectrons emit…
Using a multiscale computational approach, we probe the origin and evolution of ultraflatbands in moiré superlattices of twisted bilayer MoS$_2$, a prototypical transition metal dichalcogenide. Unlike twisted bilayer graphene, we find no unique magic angles in twisted bilayer MoS$_2$ for flatband formation. Ultraflatbands form at the valence band edge for twist angles ($θ$) close to 0$^\circ$ and at both the valence and conduction band edges for $θ$ close to 60$^\circ$, and have distinct origins. For$ θ$ close to 0$^\circ$, inhomogeneous hybridization in the reconstructed moiré superlattice is…
A ferromagnetic insulator (FI) attached to a conventional superconductor (S) changes drastically the properties of the latter. Specifically, the exchange field at the FI/S interface leads to a splitting of the superconducting density of states. If S is a superconducting film, thinner than the superconducting coherence length, the modification of the density of states occurs over the whole sample. The co-existence of the exchange splitting and superconducting correlations in S/FI structures leads to striking transport phenomena that are of interest for applications in thermoelectricity, superco…
