The low-energy limit of the massless two-loop five-point amplitudes for both type IIA and type IIB superstrings is computed with the pure spinor formalism and its overall coefficient determined from first principles. For the type IIB theory, the five-graviton amplitude is found to be proportional to its tree-level counterpart at the corresponding order in $α'$. Their ratio ties in with expectations based on S-duality since it matches the same modular function $E_{5/2}$ which relates the two-loop and tree-level four-graviton amplitudes. For R-symmetry violating states, the ratio between tree-level and two-loop amplitudes at the same $α'$-order carries an additional factor of $-3/5$. Its S-duality origin can be traced back to a modular form derived from $E_{5/2}$.
A superspace formulation of type II superstring background with manifest T-duality symmetry is presented. This manifestly T-dual formulation is constructed in a space spanned by two sets of nondegenerate super-Poincare algebra. Supertorsion constraints are obtained from consistency of the kappa-symmetric Virasoro constraints. All superconnections and vielbein fields are solved in terms of a prepotential which is one of the vielbein components. AdS5xS5 background is explained in this formulation.
In this article we investigate the relation between consequences of Dirichlet boundary conditions (momenta noncommutativity and parameters of the effective theory) and background fields of fermionic T-dual theory. We impose Dirichlet boundary conditions on the endpoints of the open string propagating in background of type IIB superstring theory with constant background fields. We showed that on the solution of the boundary conditions the momenta become noncommutative, while the coordinates commute. Fermionic T-duality is also introduced and its relation to noncommutativity is considered. We us…
We consider type IIB superstring theory with embedded $D5$-brane and choose boundary conditions which preserve half of the initial supersymmetry. In the canonical approach that we use, boundary conditions are treated as canonical constraints. The effective theory, obtained from the initial one on the solution of boundary conditions, has the form of the type I superstring theory with embedded $D5$-brane. We obtain the expressions for $D5$-brane background fields of type I theory in terms of the $D5$-brane background fields of type IIB theory. We show that beside known $Ω$ even fields, they cont…
We formulate target space duality symmetry of NSR superstring from the perspectives of worldsheet. The worldsheet action is presented in the superspace formalism in the presence of massless backgrounds. We start from a ${\hat D}$-dimensional target space worldsheet action and compactify the theory on a d-dimensional torus, $T^d$. It is assumed that the backgrounds are independent of compact (super)coordinates. We adopt the formalism of our earlier work to introduce dual supercoordinates along compact directions and introduce the corresponding dual backgrounds. It is demonstrated that combined …
T-Duality, and the K-Theoretic Partition Function of TypeIIA Superstring Theory
We verify the self-duality of Green-Schwarz supercoset sigma models on AdS$_d \times S^d $ backgrounds (d=2,3,5) under combined bosonic and fermionic T-dualities without gauge fixing kappa symmetry. We also prove this property for superstrings on AdS$_d \times S^d \times S^d$ (d=2,3) described by supercoset sigma models with the isometries governed by the exceptional Lie supergroups $D(2,1;α)$ (d=2) and $D(2,1;α)\times D(2,1;α)$ (d=3), which requires an additional T-dualisation along one of the spheres. Then, by taking into account the contribution of non-supercoset fermionic modes (up to the …
Montonen and Olive's conjecture in 1977 that some theories possess a duality symmetry that interchanges the electrically charged particle with that of negatively charged t' Hooft-Polyakov monopoles which relates strong coupling to weak coupling. This will be nearly the same as Shapere et al, who showed that the equation of motion of the coupled Einstein-Maxwell-axion dilaton system, occurs in low energy in String theory, is invariant under electromagnetic duality transformation; that also interchanges the strong and weak coupling limit of the theory. These ideas have been persued in the $SO(6)…
Strong - weak coupling duality in string theory allows us to compute physical quantities both at the weak coupling end and at the strong coupling end. Furthermore perturbative string theory can be used to compute corrections to the leading order formula at both ends. We explore the possibility of constructing a smooth interpolating formula that agrees with the perturbation expansion at both ends and leads to a fairly accurate determination of the quantity in consideration over the entire range of the coupling constant. We apply this to study the mass of the stable non-BPS state in SO(32) heter…
This is the second installment of a series of three papers in which we describe a method to determine higher-point correlation functions in one-loop open-superstring amplitudes from first principles. In this second part, we study worldsheet functions defined on a genus-one surface built from the coefficient functions of the Kronecker--Einsenstein series. We construct two classes of worldsheet functions whose properties lead to several simplifying features within our description of one-loop correlators with the pure-spinor formalism. The first class is described by functions with prescribed mon…
We find new homogeneous r matrices containing supercharges, and use them to find new backgrounds of Yang-Baxter deformed superstrings. We obtain these as limits of unimodular inhomogeneous r matrices and associated deformations of AdS2 x S2 x T6 and AdS5 x S5. Our r matrices are jordanian, but also unimodular, and lead to solutions of the regular supergravity equations of motion. In general our deformations are equivalent to particular non-abelian T duality transformations. Curiously, one of our backgrounds is also equivalent to one produced by TsT transformations and an S duality transformati…
We use the pure spinor formalism to obtain the supersymmetric massless five-point amplitude at tree-level in a streamlined fashion. We also prove the equivalence of an OPE identity in string theory with a subset of the Bern-Carrasco-Johansson five-point kinematic relations, and demonstrate how the remaining BCJ identities follow from the different integration regions over the open string world-sheet, therefore providing a first principles derivation of the (supersymmetric) BCJ identities.
We discuss the spectrum of a string propagating on eta-deformed AdS_5 x S^5 by treating its world-sheet theory as an integrable quantum field theory. The exact S-matrix of this field theory is given by a q-deformation of the AdS_5 x S^5 world-sheet S-matrix with real deformation parameter. By considering mirror (double Wick-rotated) versions of these world-sheet theories we give the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz description of their exact finite size spectra. Interestingly, this class of models maps onto itself under the mirror transformation. At the level of the string this appears to say that t…
Explicit expressions for one-loop five supergraviton scattering amplitudes in both type II superstring theories are determined by making use of the pure spinor formalism. The type IIB amplitude can be expressed in terms of a doubling of ten-dimensional super Yang--Mills tree amplitude, while the type IIA amplitude has additional pieces that cannot be expressed in that manner. We evaluate the coefficients of terms in the analytic part of the low energy expansion of the amplitude, which correspond to a series of terms in an effective action of the schematic form D^{2k}R^5 for 0\le k \le 5 (where…
The full two-loop amplitudes for five massless states in Type~II and Heterotic superstrings are constructed in terms of convergent integrals over the genus-two moduli space of compact Riemann surfaces and integrals of Green functions and Abelian differentials on the surface. The construction combines elements from the BRST cohomology of the pure spinor formulation and from chiral splitting with the help of loop momenta and homology invariance. The $α' \to 0$ limit of the resulting superstring amplitude is shown to be in perfect agreement with the previously known amplitude computed in Type~II …
