The $ηN$ final state is isospin-selective and thus provides access to the spectrum of excited nucleons without being affected by excited $Δ$ states. To this end, the world database on eta photoproduction off the proton up to a center-of-mass energy of $E\sim 2.3$ GeV is analyzed, including data on differential cross sections, and single and double polarization observables. The resonance spectrum and its properties are determined in a combined analysis of eta and pion photoproduction off the proton together with the reactions $πN\to πN$, $ηN$, $KΛ$ and $KΣ$. For the analysis, the so-called Jülich coupled-channel framework is used, incorporating unitarity, analyticity, and effective three-body channels. Parameters tied to photoproduction and hadronic interactions are varied simultaneously. The influence of recent MAMI $T$ and $F$ asymmetry data on the eta photoproduction amplitude is discussed in detail.
The isobar model EtaMAID has been updated with new and high precision data for eta and etaprime photoproduction on protons and neutrons from MAMI, ELSA, GRAAL and CLAS. The background is described in a recently developed Regge-cut model, and for the resonance part the whole list of nucleon resonances has been investigated with 21 N* states contributing to eta photoproduction and 12 N* states contributing to etaprime photoproduction. A new approach is discussed to avoid double counting in the overlap region of Regge and resonances. A comparison is done among four newly updated partial waves ana…
We present a new version of the EtaMAID model for $η$ and $η'$ photoproduction on nucleons. The model includes 23 nucleon resonances parameterized with Breit-Wigner shapes. The background is described by vector and axial-vector meson exchanges in the $t$ channel using the Regge cut phenomenology. Parameters of the resonances were obtained from a fit to available experimental data for $η$ and $η'$ photoproduction on protons and neutrons. The nature of the most interesting observations in the data is discussed.
The importance of Born terms and resonance exchange for eta and eta-prime photoproduction off both the proton and neutron within U(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory is investigated. Low-lying resonances such as the vector mesons and J^P= 1/2^+, 1/2^- baryon resonances are included explicitly and their contributions together with the Born terms are calculated. The coupling constants of the resonances are determined from strong and radiative decays. We obtain reasonable agreement with experimental data near threshold.
We analyse photoproduction of eta mesons off the proton in a gauge-invariant chiral unitary framework. The interaction kernel for meson-baryon scattering is derived from the leading order chiral effective Lagrangian and iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation. The recent precise threshold data from the Crystal Ball at MAMI can be described rather well and the complex pole corresponding to the S11(1535) is extracted. An extension of the kernel is also discussed.
Photo- and electroproduction of eta, eta-prime mesons on protons are investigated within a relativistic chiral unitary approach based on coupled channels. The s wave potentials for electroproduction and meson-baryon scattering are derived from a chiral effective Lagrangian which includes the eta-prime as an explicit degree of freedom and incorporates important features of the underlying QCD Lagrangian such as the axial U(1) anomaly. The effective potentials are iterated in a Bethe-Salpeter equation and cross sections for eta, eta-prime photo- and electroproduction from protons are obtained. Th…

The isobar models eta-MAID and eta'-MAID have been used to analyze new data on quasi-free eta photoproduction on the deuteron from Bonn and recent eta' data on the proton from Jlab. In eta photoproduction on the neutron a bump around W=1700 MeV was observed which could possibly arise from a narrow P11 state that is discussed as a non-strange member of the Theta^+ anti-decuplett. In eta' photoproduction on the proton resonance contributions are found that can be attributed to missing resonances in the energy region around W=1900 MeV.
Recently obtained polarized target and photon asymmetry data in eta photoproduction are shown to be very powerful, in conjunction with the differential cross-section data, in yielding model-insensitive constraints on the electrostrong parameters for the excitation and decay of the $N^{*}(1520)$ resonance. The extracted ratio of its electromagnetic helicity amplitudes, $A_{3/2}/A_{1/2}$, provides a critical test for the QCD-inspired hadron models.
The Chew-Mandelstam parameterization, which has been used extensively in the two-body hadronic sector, is generalized in this exploratory study to the electromagnetic sector by simultaneous fits to the pion- and eta-photoproduction S-wave multipole amplitudes for center-of-mass energies from the pion threshold through 1.61 GeV. We review the Chew-Mandelstam parameterization in detail to clarify the theoretical content of the SAID hadronic amplitude analysis and to place the proposed, generalized SAID electromagnetic amplitudes in the context of earlier employed parameterized forms. The paramet…
The recently discovered enhancement of eta photoproduction on the quasi-free neutron at energies around s^1/2 ~ 1.67 GeV is addressed within an SU(3) coupled channels model. The K Sigma threshold plays a significant role and the quasi-free cross sections on proton and neutron, sigma_n and sigma_p, can be quantitatively explained. For the reaction gamma p --> pi^0 eta p, we evaluate the polarization observables I^S and I^C from a chiral unitary amplitude developed earlier. The I^S and I^C observables have been recently measured for the first time by the CBELSA/TAPS collaboration. We show the si…
We compare results for the D13(1520) photon-decay amplitudes determined in analyses of eta- and pion-photoproduction data. The ratio of helicity amplitudes (A_3/2 / A_1/2), determined from eta-photoproduction data, is quite different from that determined in previous analyses of pion-photoproduction data. We consider how strongly the existing pion-photoproduction data constrain both this ratio and the individual photon-decay amplitudes.
Revised analysis of Sigma beam asymmetry for eta photoproduction off the free proton from GRAAL is presented. New analysis reveals a narrow structure near W ~1.685 GeV. We describe this structure by the contribution of a narrow resonance with quantum numbers P_{11}, or P_{13}, or D_{13}. Being considered together with the recent observations of a bump-like structure at W~1.68 GeV in the quasi-free eta photoproduction off the neutron, this result provides an evidence for a narrow (Gamma < 25 MeV) N*(1685) resonance. Properties of this possible new nucleon state, namely the mass, the narrow widt…
The role of the nucleon resonances in the double polarization observables of pion photoproduction is investigated by using the resonance parameters predicted by Capstick and Roberts. As an example, we show that the not-well-determined two-star resonance N$^{-}_{3/2}$(1960) can be examined by performing experiments on beam-recoil polarization at large angles.
We argue that the reaction mechanism for the coherent pion production is not known with sufficient accuracy to determine the neutron radius of 208Pb to the claimed precision of 0.03 fm.
Recent data on eta-meson photoproduction off a proton target in the energy range 2 < sqrt{s} < 3 GeV are analyzed with regard to their overall consistency. Results from the ELSA and CLAS measurements are compared with predictions of a Regge model whose reaction amplitude was fixed via a global fit to pre-2000 measurements of differential cross sections and polarization observables for gamma p -> eta p at higher energies. We find that all recent experimental results on differential cross sections for eta-meson photoproduction are in good agreement with each other, except for the CLAS data from …
A microscopic few-body description of near-threshold coherent photoproduction of the eta meson on tritium and 3He targets is given. The photoproduction cross-section is calculated using the Finite Rank Approximation (FRA) of the nuclear Hamiltonian. The results indicate a strong final state interaction of the eta meson with the residual nucleus. Sensitivity of the results to the choice of the eta N T-matrix is investigated.
Very recent eta and K+ photoproduction data on the proton from threshold up to E = 2.6 GeV are interpreted within a chiral constituent quark formalism, which embodies all known nucleon and hyperon resonances. Possible contributions from an additional S11 resonance are presented.
We investigate photoproduction of eta mesons off protons and neutrons within a coupled-channels effective-Lagrangian method which is based on the K-matrix approach. The two-body final channels included are pi-N, eta-N, phi-N, rho-N, gamma-N, K-Lambda, and K-Sigma. Non-resonant meson-baryon interactions are included in the model via nucleon intermediate states in the s- and u-channels, meson exchanges in the t-channel amplitude and the u-channel resonances. The nucleon resonances S_{11}(1535), S_{11}(1650), S_{31}(1620), P_{11}(1440), P_{11}(1710), P_{13}(1720), P_{33}(1232), P_{33}(1600), D_{1…
A microscopic few-body description of near-threshold coherent photoproduction of the eta-meson on tritium and He3 targets is given. The photoproduction cross-section is calculated using the Finite Rank Approximation (FRA) of the nuclear Hamiltonian. The results indicate a strong final state interaction of the eta-meson with the residual nucleus. Sensitivity of the results to the choice of the eta-N T-matrix is investigated. The importance of obeying the two-body unitarity condition in the eta-N system is demonstrated.
The photoproduction of a neutral pion on the deuteron is considered in the energy region around the eta threshold, where a bump-like structure was observed at very backward pion angles. Different dynamical aspects which may be responsible for this phenomenon are analysed within a theoretical frame which includes intermediate eta-NN configurations. The results show in particular, that a three-body treatment of the eta-NN interaction is of special importance.
Using the recent precise measurements of eta photopro- duction in proton and deuteron targets, we extract the ratio of the helicity amplitudes A^n_1/2 / A^p_1/2, for the excitation of N^*(1535), in the effective Lagrangian approach, It is fairly model-independent, free from the final-state interaction effects, and negative as predicted by the quark models. We stress the importance of polarization observables in further elucidation of the N^*(1520) photoexcitation amplitudes.
The long-standing discrepancy between the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule and the analysis of pion photoproduction multipoles is greatly diminished by use of s-wave multipoles that are in accord with the predictions of chiral perturbation theory and describe the experimental data in the threshold region. The remaining difference may be due to contributions of channels with more pions and/or heavier mesons whose contributions to the sum rule remain to be investigated by a direct measurement of the photoabsorption cross sections.
A unified description of single-pion photoproduction data, together with pion- and eta-hadroproduction data, has been achieved in a Chew-Mandelstam parametrization which is consistent with unitarity at the two-body level. Energy-dependent and single-energy partial wave analyses of pion photoproduction data have been performed and compared to previous SAID fits and multipoles from the Mainz and Bonn-Gatchina groups.
From the new Mainz data of eta photoproduction off protons\cite{ref1} and deuterons\cite{ref2}, we can extract, via the effective Lagrangian approach (ELA)\cite{ref3}, the electrostrong parameters $ξ_{p}$ and $ξ_{n}$ for the N$^*$(1535) excitation. These parameters are, in units of $10^{-4} MeV^{-1}$, $(2.20\pm 0.15)$ and $(-1.86\pm 0.20)$ respectively. They yield the ratio of the helicity amplitudes for the excitation of N$^*$(1535) by photons off neutrons and protons to be $A^{n}_{1/2}/A^{p}_{1/2}=-0.84\pm 0.15$, a quantity of fundamental importance in the baryon structure. Best estimates in…
A reggeized model for ηand η' photoproduction on the nucleon is presented. In this model, t-channel vector meson exchanges are described in terms of Regge trajectories to comply with the correct high energy behavior. We compare this reggeized model with an isobar model (η-MAID), where the t-channel exchanges are described by ρand ωpoles. Both models contain the same resonance contributions, and describe current γp \to ηp data up to E_γ^{lab} = 2 GeV quite well, but only the reggeized model can be successfully extended to higher energies. For the γp \to η' p reaction, the reggeized model is fou…
We calculate the cross sections for inclusive one-pion, two-pion and eta photoproduction in nuclei in the photon energy range from 300 MeV to 900 MeV within the framework of a semi-classical BUU transport model. Our results are compared with existing experimental data and discussed with respect to a calculation of the total photoabsorption cross section.
Photoproduction of eta mesons from nucleons can provide valuable information about the excitation spectrum of the nucleons. The angular dependence of photoproduction in the photon-induced reaction is investigated in the multi-source thermal model. The results are compared with experimental data from the decay mode. They are in good agreement with the experimental data. It is shown that the movement factor increases linearly with the photon beam energies. And, the deformation and translation of emission sources are visually given in the formalism.
We investigate the influence of possible in-medium modifications of the S11(1535) in eta photoproduction in nuclei. Besides Fermi motion, Pauli blocking and binding effects also collisional broadening is accounted for. The in-medium width is obtained from a realistic resonance-hole model. Results on eta photoproduction are obtained from a semi-classical BUU transport model and compared with data. We find that calculations including a momentum dependent nucleon and resonance potential are in agreement with the recent KEK data. In contrast, collisional broadening has only little influence.
A combined analysis of new eta photoproduction data for total and differential cross sections, target asymmetry and photon asymmetry is presented. Using a few reasonable assumptions we perform the first model-independent analysis of the E0+, E2- and M2- eta photoproduction multipoles. Making use of the well-known A3/2 helicity amplitude of the D13(1520) state we extract its branching ratio to the eta-N channel, Gamma(eta,N)/Gamma = (0.08 +- 0.01)%. At higher energies, we show that the photon asymmetry is extremely sensitive to small multipoles that are excited by photons in the helicity 3/2 st…
Very recent data for the reaction gamma{d} --> eta{np} are analyzed within a model that includes contributions from the impulse approximation and next order corrections due to the np and eta{N} interactions in the final state. Comparison between the calculations and data indicate sizable contributions from the np and eta{N} final state interactions close to threshold.
An analysis of incoherent photoproduction of $η$ mesons off the deuteron for photon energies from threshold to 800 MeV is presented. The dominant contribution, the $γ$N-$η$N amplitude, is described within an isobar model. Effects of the final state interactions in the $NN$ as well as the $ηN$ systems are included employing models derived within the meson-exchange approach. It is found that their consideration is important. Specifically, due to an interference effect the influence of the $ηN$ final state interaction is enhanced in the reaction $γd \to np η$ close to threshold.
Rescattering effects in coherent eta photoproduction on the deuteron are studied in the region of the S_11(1535) resonance. For the elementary reaction mechanism on the nucleon, an effective isobar model with inclusion of resonances and Born terms is used. The resonance parameters are fixed by considering pion photoproduction only. For the coherent eta production on the deuteron we have considered the impulse approximation taking into account the P_11(1440), D_13(1520), and S_11(1535) resonances, rescattering, and meson exchange currents. For the rescattering mechanism a coupled channel model …
Very recent data for the reaction gamma+d ->eta np, namely total cross sections, angular and momentum spectra, are analyzed within a model that includes contributions from the impulse approximation and next order corrections due to the np and eta-N interactions in the final state. Comparison between the calculations and the new data indicate sizable contributions from the np and eta-N final state interactions. Some systematic discrepancies between the calculations and the data are also found.
The $η$ production in the nucleon resonance energy region is studied within the unitary coupled-channels effective Lagrangian approach of the Giessen model. We demonstrate that the second peak recently observed in the cross section of $η$ photoproduction on the neutron at $\sqrt{s}$=1.66 GeV can be explained in terms of coupled-channel effects due to $S_{11}(1650)$ and $P_{11}(1710)$ resonance excitations.
Coherent eta photoproduction on the deuteron is studied in the $S_{11}$ resonance region neglecting eta rescattering and two-body processes. For the elementary reaction on the nucleon, we have considered the dominant $S_{11}(1535)$ resonance and as background the nucleon pole terms as well as $ρ$ and $ω$ meson exchange. We have studied the influence of different choices for the neutron resonance amplitude, different prescriptions for fixing the invariant mass of the resonance amplitude and different methods for deriving the elementary production amplitude for an arbitrary reference frame.
We present a unitary and gauge-invariant model with coupled channels, which provides a consistent description of pion photoproduction off nucleons in the E$_{0+}$ channel and eta-meson photoproduction off protons and deuterons. An effective field theory with hadrons and photons is constructed, which includes non-resonant Born terms as well as the S$_{11}$(1535) and S$_{11}$(1650) baryon resonances. Due to the coupling between the channels, the production of eta-mesons is strongly affected by the S$_{11}$(1650) although its direct coupling to the $η$N channel is negligible. The rho- and omega-m…
The contribution of D waves to physical observables for neutral pion photoproduction in the near threshold region is studied. Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory to one loop, and up to ${\cal O}(q^4)$, is used to account for the S and P waves, while D waves are added in an almost model-independent way using standard Born terms and vector mesons. It is found that the inclusion of D waves is necessary to extract the $E_{0+}$ multipole reliably from present and forthcoming data and to assess the low-energy constants of Chiral Perturbation Theory. Arguments are presented demonstrating that F-w…
Photoproduction of pi0-eta on protons in the energy range from threshold to 1.4 GeV is discussed. The data for representative angular distributions recently obtained at MAMI C are analyzed using an isobar model. The isobars considered are Delta(1232) and S11(1535) for pi0-p and eta-p states, respectively. In accordance with the results of earlier works the main features of the reaction are explained through the dominance of the D33 wave with a relatively small admixture of positive parity resonances. Comparison with recent experimental results for the photon beam asymmetry is carried out.
Low-energy eta photoproduction on the nucleon is studied in an effective Lagrangian approach that contains Born terms, vector meson and nucleon resonance contributions. The resonance sector includes the $S_{11}(1535)$, $P_{11}(1440)$ and $D_{13}(1520)$ states whose couplings are fixed by independent electromagnetic and hadronic data. The available $(γ,η)$ data are employed to discuss the difference between pseudoscalar and pseudovector Born terms and to determine the magnitude of the $ηNN$ coupling constant. We present multipoles that are most sensitive to the various model ingredients and dem…
With the availability of the new neutral pion photoproduction from the proton data from the A2 and CB-TAPS Collaborations at Mainz it is mandatory to revisit Heavy Baryon Chiral Perturbation Theory (HBChPT) and address the extraction of the partial waves as well as other issues such as the value of the low-energy constants, the energy range where the calculation provides a good agreement with the data and the impact of unitarity. We find that, within the current experimental status, HBChPT with the fitted LECs gives a good agreement with the existing neutral pion photoproduction data up to $\s…
Threshold neutral pion photoproduction on light nuclei is studied in the framework of baryon chiral perturbation theory. We obtain a general formula for the electric dipole amplitude in the special case of neutral pion photoproduction on a nucleus. To third order in small momenta, the amplitude is a sum of 2- and 3-body interactions with no undetermined parameters. With reasonable input from the single nucleon sector, our result for neutral pion photoproduction on the deuteron is in agreement with experiment.
We demonstrate that the Dubna-Mainz-Taipei (DMT) meson-exchange dynamical model, which starts from an effective chiral Lagrangian, for pion photoproduction provides an excellent and economic framework to describe both the pi^0 threshold production and the Delta deformation, two features dictated by chiral dynamics.
We investigate the influence of new GRAAL Sigma-beam asymmetry measurements on the neutron in multipole fits to the single-pion photoproduction database. Results are compared to those found with the addition of a double-polarization quantity associated with the sum rule.
We consider the chiral expansion of the threshold amplitude for the reaction $γp \to π^0 π^0 p$ to order ${\cal O}(M_π^2)$. We substantiate a claim that this photoproduction channel is significantly enhanced close to threshold due to pion loops. A precise measurement of the corresponding cross sections is called for which allows to test chiral perturbation theory.
Observed for the processes gamma+p arrow eta+p, gamma+n arrow eta+n are calculated throughout the resonance energy region using the single isobar model without a background. The connection between invariant photoexcitation amplitudes of the resonances on neutrons and protons are calculated. The results are discussed in terms of a comparison with experimental data and calculations performed by other authors.
The recently discovered enhancement of eta photoproduction on the quasi-free neutron at energies around sqrt(s)~1.67 GeV is addressed within a SU(3) coupled channel model. The quasi-free cross sections on proton and neutron, sigma_n and sigma_p, can be quantitatively explained. In this study, the main source for the peak in sigma_n/sigma_p is a coupled channel effect in S-wave that explains the dip-bump structure in gamma n --> eta n. In particular, the photon coupling to the intermediate meson-baryon states is important. The stability of the result is extensively tested and consistency with s…
We compute the photon asymmetry $B_γ$ for near threshold parity violating (PV) pion photoproduction through sub-leading order. We show that sub-leading contributions involve a new combination of PV couplings not included in previous analyses of hadronic PV. We argue that existing constraints on the leading order contribution to $B_γ$ -- obtained from the PV $γ$-decay of $^{18}$F -- suggest that the impact of the subleading contributions may be more significant than expected from naturalness argumen
We develop a relativistic model for incoherent eta-photoproduction on nuclei. The elementary process is described using an effective Lagrangian containing photons, nucleons, the S11(1535) and D13(1520) nucleon resonances, and rho, omega, and eta mesons. The nucleon and eta wavefunctions are obtained from relativistic wave equations. Final-state interactions of the outgoing particles are included via optical potentials. The effects of these interactions are found to be large and lead to reduced cross sections. The incoherent cross sections for isovector transitions are much larger than those for…
We present a combined analysis of the new eta photoproduction data for total and differential cross sections, target asymmetry and photon asymmetry. Using basic assumptions, this allows a model-independent extraction of the $E_{2-}$ and $M_{2-}$ multipoles as well as resonance parameters of the $D_{13}(1520)$ state. At higher energy, we show that the photon asymmetry is extremely sensitive to small multipoles that are excited by photons in the helicity 3/2 state. These could be, e.g., the $F_{15}(1680)$, the $F_{17}(1990)$, or the $G_{17}(2190)$ resonances.
Within a dynamical coupled-channels model which has already been fixed from analyzing the data of the pi N -> pi N and gamma N -> pi N reactions, we present the predicted double pion photoproduction cross sections up to the second resonance region, W< 1.7 GeV. The roles played by the different mechanisms within our model in determining both the single and double pion photoproduction reactions are analyzed, focusing on the effects due to the direct gamma N -> pi pi N mechanism, the interplay between the resonant and non-resonant amplitudes, and the coupled-channels effects. The model parameters…
We investigate pion photoproduction off the proton in a manifestly gauge-invariant chiral unitary extension of chiral perturbation theory. In a first step, we consider meson-baryon scattering taking into account all next-to-leading order contact interactions. The resulting low-energy constants are determined by a fit to s-wave pion-nucleon scattering and the low-energy data for the reaction pi- p --> eta n. To assess the theoretical uncertainty, we perform two different fit strategies. Having determined the low-energy constants, we then analyse the data on the s-wave multipole amplitudes E0+ o…
We calculate the quasifree photoproduction of pions and eta mesons on nuclei from 12C to 208Pb. Assuming that for the quasifree process the cross sections for pi/eta - photoproduction on a nucleon in medium are -- besides a lowering due to Pauli blocking -- identical to those on a free nucleon, we use these as an input. The produced mesons or resonances then propagate through the nucleus where they can undergo several scattering and absorption processes. This final state interaction, which leads to a lowering of the initial meson yield up to 70%, we simulate in a coupled channel Boltzmann-Uehl…
The presently available data for the reaction $γp{\to}η^\prime{p}$ are analyzed in terms of a model in which the dominant production mechanism is the exchange of the vector mesons $ω$ and $ρ$. To describe the data at photon energies close to the production threshold we introduce a resonance contribution due to the well established $S_{11}(1535)$ resonance. Finally we study the contributions due to nucleon exchange to the $η^\prime$ photoproduction and find, that those contributions can be seen at large angles in the differential cross section.
We claim that a narrow peak in the cross section near 1685~MeV in the $γn\to ηn$ channel can be explained through a peculiar radial behaviour of the $p$-wave quark states with $j=1/2$ and $j=3/2$ in the low lying S11 resonances and the opening of the $KΣ$ threshold rather than by an exotic resonance. We explain the mechanism of its formation in the framework of a coupled channel formalism which incorporates quasi-bound quark-model states corresponding to the two low lying resonances in the S11 partial wave. A relation to the Single Quark Transition Model is pointed out.
We analyze the $γN\toπN$ process in the negative parity channel with Hamiltonian effective filed theory which is successful in studying the nucleon resonances associated with the meson-nucleon scattering and lattice QCD simulations. We provide the scattering amplitude of pion photoproduction and extract the electric dipole amplitudes $E_{0+}$. The triquark component in $N^*(1535)$ is important for improving the consistence between our results and the experimental data.
Incoherent photoproduction of eta-mesons on the deuteron is considered. The main attention is paid to the region above the S11(1535) resonance where rather narrow resonance like structure in the total cross section extracted for gamma n -> eta n has been reported. The corresponding experimental results are analyzed from the phenomenological standpoint within the model containing a baryon P11 with the mass about 1670 MeV and a width less than 30 MeV. This resonance was suggested in some recent works as a nonstrange member of the pentaquark antidecuplet with J^P=1/2^+. The calculation is also pe…
A relativistic model for the quasifree photoproduction of eta meson from complex nuclei is developed. The interactions between fields are introduced through effective Lagrangians. Contributions from several nucleon resonances as well as nucleon Born terms and vector meson exchange diagrams are included. Nucleon and eta wavefunctions are solutions of Dirac and Klein-Gordon equations, respectively. Final state interactions of the outgoing particles are included via optical potentials. The effects of these interactions on the cross sections and photon asymmetries are studied and are found to be l…
We study coherent eta-photoproduction from nuclei in a relativistic impulse approximation approach. For the elementary production amplitude we use a standard relativistic parameterization based on a set of four Lorentz- and gauge-invariant amplitudes. The photonuclear amplitude is evaluated without recourse to a nonrelativistic reduction; the full relativistic structure of the amplitude is maintained. On general arguments we show that the coherent process is sensitive to only one of the elementary amplitudes. Moreover, we show that the nuclear structure information is fully contained in the gr…
