The structure of the solutions to the one dimensional focusing nonlin-ear Schr{ö}dinger equation (NLS) for the order N in terms of quasi rational functions is given here. We first give the proof that the solutions can be expressed as a ratio of two wronskians of order 2N and then two determinants by an exponential depending on t with 2N -- 2 parameters. It also is proved that for the order N , the solutions can be written as the product of an exponential depending on t by a quotient of two polynomials of degree N (N + 1) in x and t. The solutions depend on 2N -- 2 parameters and give when all these parameters are equal to 0, the analogue of the famous Peregrine breather PN. It is fundamental to note that in this representation at order N , all these solutions can be seen as deformations with 2N -- 2 parameters of the famous Peregrine breather PN. With this method, we already built Peregrine breathers until order N = 10, and their deformations depending on 2N -- 2 parameters.
We consider the one dimensional focusing (cubic) Nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) in the semiclassical limit with exponentially decaying complex-valued initial data, whose phase is multiplied by a real parameter. We prove smooth dependence of the asymptotic solution on the parameter. Numerical results supporting our estimates of important quantities are presented.
A perturbation of a class of scalar Riemann-Hilbert problems (RHPs) with the jump contour as a finite union of oriented simple arcs in the complex plane and the jump function with a $z\log z$ type singularity on the jump contour is considered. The jump function and the jump contour are assumed to depend on a vector of external parameters $\vecβ$. We prove that if the RHP has a solution at some value $\vecβ_0$ then the solution of the RHP is uniquely defined in a some neighborhood of $\vecβ_0$ and is smooth in $\vecβ$. This result is applied to the case of semiclassical focusing NLS.
We construct birational maps that satisfy the parametric set-theoretical Yang-Baxter equation and its entwining generalisation. For this purpose, we employ Darboux transformations related to integrable Nonlinear Schrödinger type equations and study the refactorisation problems of the product of their associated Darboux matrices. Additionally, we study various algebraic properties of the derived maps, such as invariants and associated symplectic or Poisson structures, and we prove their complete integrability in the Liouville sense.
This paper is concerned with the construction of new solutions in terms of birational maps to the functional tetrahedron equation and parametric tetrahedron equation. We present a method for constructing solutions to the parametric tetrahedron equation via Darboux transformations. In particular, we study matrix refactorisation problems for Darboux transformations associated with the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) and the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation, and we construct novel nine-dimensional tetrahedron maps. We show that the latter can be restricted to six-dimensional parametri…
The algebraic structure and the spectral properties of a special class of multi-component NLS equations, related to the symmetric spaces of {\bf BD.I}-type are analyzed. The focus of the study is on the spectral theory of the relevant Lax operators for different fundamental representations of the underlying simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. Special attention is paid to the structure of the dressing factors in spinor representation of the orthogonal simple Lie algebras of ${\bf B}_r\simeq so(2r+1,{\mathbb C})$ type.
We consider the discrete and continuous vector non-linear Schrodinger (NLS) model. We focus on the case where space-like local discontinuities are present, and we are primarily interested in the time evolution on the defect point. This in turn yields the time part of a typical Darboux-Backlund transformation. Within this spirit we then explicitly work out the generic Backlund transformation and the dressing associated to both discrete and continuous spectrum, i.e. the Darboux transformation is expressed in the matrix and integral representation respectively.
We conjecture an integrability and linearizability test for dispersive Z^2-lattice equations by using a discrete multiscale analysis. The lowest order secularity conditions from the multiscale expansion give a partial differential equation of the form of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation. If the starting lattice equation is integrable then the resulting NLS equation turns out to be integrable, while if the starting equation is linearizable we get a linear Schrodinger equation. On the other hand, if we start with a non-integrable lattice equation we may obtain a non-integrable NLS equati…
The direct and inverse scattering problems are analyzed for a first-order discrete system associated with the semi-discrete version of the derivative NLS system. The Jost solutions, the scattering coefficients, the bound-state dependency and norming constants are investigated and related to the corresponding quantities for two particular discrete linear systems associated with the semi-discrete version of the NLS system. The bound-state data set with any multiplicities is described in an elegant manner in terms of a pair of constant matrix triplets. Several methods are presented to the solve t…
We consider the Schroedinger equation with a subcritical focusing power nonlinearity on a noncompact metric graph, and prove that for every finite edge there exists a threshold value of the mass, beyond which there exists a positive bound state achieving its maximum on that edge only. This bound state is characterized as a minimizer of the energy functional associated to the NLS equation, with an additional constraint (besides the mass prescription): this requires particular care in proving that the minimizer satisfies the Euler--Lagrange equation. As a consequence, for a sufficiently large ma…
It is shown that using the similarity transformations, a set of three-dimensional p-q nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equations with inhomogeneous coefficients can be reduced to one-dimensional stationary NLS equation with constant or varying coefficients, thus allowing for obtaining exact localized and periodic wave solutions. In the suggested reduction the original coordinates in the (1+3)-space are mapped into a set of one-parametric coordinate surfaces, whose parameter plays the role of the coordinate of the one-dimensional equation. We describe the algorithm of finding solutions and concentra…
We construct exact soliton solutions of integrable multicomponent nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations under general nonvanishing boundary conditions. Different components of the vector (or matrix) dependent variable can approach plane waves with different wavenumbers and frequencies at spatial infinity. We apply Bäcklund-Darboux transformations to the cubic NLS equations with a self-focusing nonlinearity, a self-defocusing nonlinearity or a mixed focusing-defocusing nonlinearity. Both bright-soliton solutions and dark-soliton solutions are obtained, depending on the signs of the nonlinear te…
Based on our previous work for solving the nonlinear Schrodinger equation with multichannel dynamics that is given by a localized standing wave and radiation, in this work we deal with the multichannel solution which consists of a moving soliton and radiation. We apply the modulation theory to give a system of ODEs coupled to the radiation term for describing the solution, which is valid for all times. The modulation equations are solved accurately by the proposed numerical method. The soliton and radiation are captured separately in the computation, and they are solved on the translated domai…
We study a deformation of the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, the defocusing Camassa- Holm NLS, hereafter referred to as CH-NLS equation. We use asymptotic multiscale expansion methods to reduce this model to a Boussinesq-like equation, which is then subsequently approximated by two Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equations for left- and right-traveling waves. We use the soliton solution of the KdV equation to construct approximate solutions of the CH-NLS system. It is shown that these solutions may have the form of either dark or antidark solitons, namely dips or humps on top of a st…
We consider the $\mathbb{T}^{4}$ cubic NLS which is energy-critical. We study the unconditional uniqueness of solution to the NLS via the cubic Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy, an uncommon method, and does not require the existence of solution in Strichartz type spaces. We prove $U$-$V$ multilinear estimates to replace the previously used Sobolev multilinear estimates, which fail on $\mathbb{T}^{4}$. To incorporate the weaker estimates, we work out new combinatorics from scratch and compute, for the first time, the time integration limits, in the recombined Duhamel-Born expansion. The new combinato…
This article consists of two parts. In the first part, we review the most recent proofs establishing quadratic Morawetz inequalities for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS). We also describe the applications of these estimates to the problem of quantum scattering. In the second part, we generalize some of the methods developed for the NLS by many authors to the case of Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) hierarchies. In particular, we prove both regular and interaction Morawetz identities for the GP hierarchy, which appear here for the first time in the literature.
The integrable vector nonlinear Schrodinger (vector NLS) equation is investigated by using Zakharov-Shabat (ZS) scheme. We get a Lax pair formulation of the vector NLS model. Multi-soliton solution of the equation is also derived by using inverse scattering method of ZS scheme. We also find that there is an elastic and inelastic collision of the bright and dark multi-solitons of the system.
