We construct the external metric of a slowly rotating, tidally deformed material body in general relativity. The tidal forces acting on the body are assumed to be weak and to vary slowly with time, and the metric is obtained as a perturbation of a background metric that describes the external geometry of an isolated, slowly rotating body. The tidal environment is generic and characterized by two symmetric-tracefree tidal moments E_{ab} and B_{ab}, and the body is characterized by its mass M, its radius R, and a dimensionless angular-momentum vector χ^a << 1. The perturbation accounts for all couplings between χ^a and the tidal moments. The body's gravitational response to the applied tidal field is measured in part by the familiar gravitational Love numbers K^{el}_2 and K^{mag}_2, but we find that the coupling between the body's rotation and the tidal environment requires the introduction of four new quantities, which we designate as rotational-tidal Love numbers. All these Love numbers are gauge invariant in the usual sense of perturbation theory, and all vanish when the body is a black hole.
We present a hyperbolic formulation of the evolution equations describing non-radial perturbations of slowly rotating relativistic stars in the Regge--Wheeler gauge. We demonstrate the stability preperties of the new evolution set of equations and compute the polar w-modes for slowly rotating stars.
In this paper, we investigate the properties of the Lense-Thirring precession frequency and periastron precession of the relativistic bound orbits in slowly rotating naked singularity spacetimes. We show that the precession frequencies of a stationary test gyroscope are quite unique in slowly rotating naked singularity spacetimes, and therefore, one can easily distinguish them from the slowly rotating Kerr black hole spacetime. On the other hand, we also show that in slowly rotating Joshi-Malafarina-Narayan (JMN1) naked singularity spacetime, negative precession of the timelike bound orbits is…
The metric outside a compact body deformed by a quadrupolar tidal field is universal up to its Love numbers, constants which encode the tidal response's dependence on the body's internal structure. For a non-rotating body, the deformed external geometry is characterized by the familiar gravitational Love numbers $K_2^{\text{el}}$ and $K_2^{\text{mag}}$. For a slowly rotating body, these must be supplemented by rotational-tidal Love numbers, which measure the response to couplings between the body's spin and the external tidal field. By integrating the interior field equations, I find that the …
For relativistic stars rotating slowly and differentially with a positive angular velocity, some properties in relation to the positiveness of the rate of rotational dragging and of the angular momentum density are derived. Also, a new proof for the bounds on the rotational mass-energy is given.
We study different models of radiating slowly rotating bodies up to the first order in the angular velocity. It is shown that up to this order the evolution of the eccentricity is highly model-dependent even for very compact objects.
Hartle's model for slowly rotating stars has been extensively used to compute equilibrium configurations of slowly rotating stars to second order in perturbation theory in General Relativity, given a barotropic equation of state (EOS). A recent study based on the modern theory of perturbed matchings show that the model must be amended to accommodate EOS's in which the energy density does not vanish at the surface of the non rotating star. In particular, the expression for the change in mass given in the original model, i.e. a contribution to the mass that arises when the perturbations are chos…
In this paper, the gravitational wave generation by a slowly rotating thin-shell wormhole is considered. Since the rotating thin-shell wormhole is assumed to be an axisymmetric rigid body, the rotation axis coincides with the largest principal axis which means there is no precession motion. However, if there is a perturbation in the angular velocity, the rotating wormhole can move with precession by perturbation which make arise the gravitational waves. We derive the gravitational wave spectrum, energy loss rate, and angular momentum loss rate.
In this paper, with an appropriate combination of three Liouville-type dilaton potentials, we obtain the higher dimensional charged slowly rotating dilaton black hole solution for asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. The angular momentum and the gyromagnetic ratio of such a black hole are determined for the arbitrary values of the dilaton coupling constant. It is shown that the dilaton field modifies the gyromagnetic ratio of the rotating dilaton black holes.
A global model of a slowly rotating perfect fluid ball in general relativity is presented. To second order in the rotation parameter, the junction surface is an ellipsoidal cylinder. The interior is given by a limiting case of the Wahlquist solution, and the vacuum region is not asymptotically flat. The impossibility of joining an asymptotically flat vacuum region has been shown in a preceding work.
We examine charged slowly rotating perfect fluids in the presence of a cosmological constant. The asymptotic form of the vacuum solutions to the linearised Einstein-Maxwell field equations is found and the possibility of matching this vacuum to the slow rotating García metric is considered. We show that, contrary to the case of zero cosmological constant, this García metric can be matched to an asymptotically de Sitter vacuum in the slow rotation limit. We conclude the García metric may potentially be suitable for describing a charged isolated rotating body in a cosmological background.
We provide semi-analytic expressions for quasinormal mode frequencies of slowly rotating Kerr black holes to the quadratic order in the rotation parameter. We apply the parametrized black hole quasinormal mode ringdown formalism to the Chandrasekhar-Detweiler equation and the Sasaki-Nakamura equation instead of the Teukolsky equation, and compare our result with the previous numerical calculations.
We solve Einstein's equations for slowly-rotating gravitational condensate stars (gravastars) up to second order in the rotation by expanding about the spherically symmetric gravastar with de Sitter interior and Schwarzschild exterior matched at their common horizon. Requiring that the perturbations are finite on the null surface reduces the exterior geometry to that of a Kerr black hole, implying that a slowly rotating gravastar cannot be distinguished from a Kerr black hole by any measurement or observation restricted to the macroscopic spacetime exterior to the horizon. We determine the int…
A general class of solutions of Einstein's equation for a slowly rotating fluid source, with supporting internal pressure, is matched using Lichnerowicz junction conditions, to the Kerr metric up to and including first order terms in angular speed parameter. It is shown that the match applies to any previously known non-rotating fluid source made to rotate slowly for which a zero pressure boundary surface exists. The method is applied to the dust source of Robertson-Walker and in outline to an interior solution due to McVittie describing gravitational collapse. The applicability of the method …
In this work we find charged slowly rotating solutions in the four-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell non-linear electrodynamics assuming a negative cosmological constant. By solving the system of coupled field equations explicitly we obtain an approximate analytical solution in the small rotation limit. The solution obtained is characterized by a flat horizon structure, and it corresponds to a toroidal black hole. The Smarr's formula, the thermodynamics and the invariants Ricci scalar and Kretschmann scalar are briefly discussed.
In the first part of this article I determine the geometry of a slowly rotating black hole deformed by generic tidal forces created by a remote distribution of matter. The metric of the deformed black hole is obtained by integrating the Einstein field equations in a vacuum region of spacetime bounded by r < r_max, with r_max a maximum radius taken to be much smaller than the distance to the remote matter. The tidal forces are assumed to be weak and to vary slowly in time, and the metric is expressed in terms of generic tidal quadrupole moments E_{ab} and B_{ab} that characterize the tidal envi…
We study slowly rotating four-dimensional black holes with flat horizon structure in scale-dependent gravity. First we obtain the solution, and then we study thermodynamic properties as well as the invariants of the theory. The impact of the scale-dependent parameter is investigated in detail. We find that the scale-dependent solution exhibits a single singularity at the origin, also present in the classical solution.
Slowly rotating perfect fluid balls with regular center and asymptotically flat exterior are considered to second order in the rotation parameter. The necessary condition for being Petrov type D is given for general perfect fluid matter. As a special case, fluids with a linear equation of state are considered. Using a power series expansion at the regular center, it is shown that the Petrov D condition is inconsistent with the linear equation of state assumption.
We discuss rotating wormholes in general relativity with a scalar field with negative kinetic energy. To solve the problem, we use the assumption about slow rotation. The role of a small dimensionless parameter plays the ratio of the linear velocity of rotation of the wormhole's throat and the velocity of light. We construct the rotating wormhole solution in the second order approximation with respect to the small parameter. The analysis shows that the asymptotical mass of the rotating wormhole is greater than that of the non-rotating one, and the NEC violation in the rotating wormhole spaceti…
Using the optical reference geometry approach, we have derived in the following, a general expression for the ellipticity of a slowly rotating fluid configuration using Newtonian force balance equation in the conformally projected absolute 3-space, in the realm of general relativity. Further with the help of Hartle-Thorne (H-T) metric for a slowly rotating compact object, we have evaluated the centrifugal force acting on a fluid element and also evaluated the ellipticity and found that the centrifugal reversal occurs at around $R/R_s \approx 1.45$, and the ellipticity maximum at around $R/R_s …
Spherically symmetric static fluid sources are endowed with rotation and embedded in Kerr empty space-time up to an including quadratic terms in an angular velocity parameter using Darmois junction conditions. Einstein's equation's for the system are developed in terms of linear ordinary differential equations. The boundary of the rotating source is expressed explicitly in terms of sinusoidal functions of the polar angle which differ somewhat according to whether an equation of state exists between internal density and supporting pressure.
The strong gravitational field near massive blackhole is an interesting regime to test General Relativity(GR) and modified gravity theories. The knowledge of spacetime metric around a blackhole is a primary step for such tests. Solving field equations for rotating blackhole is extremely challenging task for the most modified gravity theories. Though the derivation of Kerr metric of GR is also demanding job, the magical Newmann-Janis algorithm does it without actually solving Einstein equation for rotating blackhole. Due to this notable success of Newmann-Janis algorithm in the case of Kerr met…
The changes a (negative) tidal charge causes at the phenomenon of superradiance which occurs around rotating black holes are investigated. This is made by computing the amplification factors of massless scalar waves being scattered by the black hole. It is shown that the increase of the tidal charge intensity leads to a considerable enhancement of energy extraction from near-extreme black holes. Such improvement results from the fact that extreme black holes with more negative tidal charges spin faster. Maximum amplification decreases with the increase of the tidal charge intensity if the angu…
The exact analytical solutions for vacuum electromagnetic fields of slowly rotating magnetized compact stars in conformal gravity have been studied. Taking the realistic dipolar magnetic field configuration for the star, analytical solutions of the Maxwell equations for the near zone magnetic and the electric fields exterior to a slowly rotating magnetized relativistic star in conformal gravity are obtained. In addition, the dipolar electromagnetic radiation and energy losses from the rotating magnetized compact star in conformal gravity have been studied. With the aim to find observational co…
We discuss a solution describing a rotating wormhole in the theory of gravity with a scalar field with negative kinetic energy. To solve the problem we use the assumption about slow rotation. The role of a small dimensionless parameter plays the ratio of the linear velocity of rotation of the wormhole's throat and the velocity of light. The rotating wormhole solution is constructed in the framework of the first order approximation with respect to the small parameter. We analyze the obtained solution and study the motion of test particles and the propagation of light in the spacetime of rotatin…
We discuss the solution to Einstein's equations for a Lense-Thirring inspired metric describing a slowly rotating black hole coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. We show that different schemes of rotation for the black hole exist; they depend on a parameter $γ$ defining the dependence of the metric on the polar angle. The fulfilment of the complete set of gravitational field equations and conservation laws implies constraints on this parameter and the metric functions. The vanishing of $γ$ provides the Lense-Thirring line element associated to any non-linear electrodynamics; the Kerr-Newman m…
We extend firstly the regular phantom black hole solution to a slowly rotating black hole case and find that the phantom field depresses the angular velocity of the event horizon and suppresses the super-radiation of black hole. We also probe the dependence of quasi-periodic oscillations frequencies in relativistic precession model on the phantom parameter. With the observation data of GRO J1655-40, we make a constraint on the parameters of the regular and slowly rotating phantom black hole. Our results show that although the best-fit value of the phantom parameter $b$ is small, the allowed va…
We calculate the linear vacuum perturbations of a Kerr black hole surrounded by a slowly-varying external spacetime to third order in the ratio of the black-hole mass to the radius of curvature of the external spacetime. This expansion applies to two relevant physical scenarios: (i) a small Kerr black hole immersed in the gravitational field of a much larger external black hole, and (ii) a Kerr black hole moving slowly around another external black hole of comparable mass. This small-hole/slow-motion approximation allows us to parametrize the perturbation through slowly-varying, time-dependent…
We consider the nondynamical Chern-Simons (CS) modification to General Relativity (GR) in the framework of the Einstein-Cartan formulation, as providing a way to incorporate a slowly rotating Kerr black hole in the space of solutions. Our proposal lies on considering the CS term as a source of torsion and on an iterative procedure to look for vacuum solutions of the system, by expanding the tetrad, the connection and the embedding parameter, in powers of a dimensionless small parameter $β$ which codifies the CS coupling. Starting from a torsionless zeroth-order vacuum solution we derive the se…
It is interesting to note that most black holes are born very slowly rotating. We investigate scalarization of slowly rotating black holes in the Einstein-scalar-Chern-Simons (EsCS) theory. In the slow rotation approximation, the CS term takes a linear form of rotation parameter $a$ which determines the tachyonic instability. The tachyonic instability for slowly rotating black holes represents the onset of spontaneous scalarization. It is shown that the slowly rotating black holes are unstable against a spherically symmetric scalar-mode perturbation for positive coupling $α$, whereas these bla…
The second order perturbative field equations for slowly and rigidly rotating perfect fluid balls of Petrov type D are solved numerically. It is found that all the slowly and rigidly rotating perfect fluid balls up to second order, irrespective of Petrov type, may be matched to a possibly non-asymptotically flat stationary axisymmetric vacuum exterior. The Petrov type D interior solutions are characterized by five integration constants, corresponding to density and pressure of the zeroth order configuration, the magnitude of the vorticity, one more second order constant and an independent sphe…
The dynamics of a charged particle moving around a slowly rotating Kerr black hole in the presence of an external magnetic field is investigated. We are interested to explore the conditions under which the charged particle can escape from the gravitational field of the black hole after colliding with another particle. The escape velocity of the charged particle in the innermost stable circular orbit is calculated. The effective potential and escape velocity of the charged particle with angular momentum in the presence of magnetic field is analyzed. This work serves as an extension of a precedi…
Within the framework of $f(R,T)$ theories of gravity, we investigate the hydrostatic equilibrium of anisotropic neutron stars with a physically relevant equation of state (EoS) for the radial pressure. In particular, we focus on the $f(R,T) = R+ 2βT$ model, where $β$ is a minimal coupling constant. In the slowly rotating approximation, we derive the modified TOV equations and the expression for the relativistic moment of inertia. The main properties of neutron stars, such as radius, mass and moment of inertia, are studied in detail. Our results revel that the main consequence of the $2βT$ term…
We present a slowly rotating black hole with phantom global monopole by solving Einstein's field equation and find that presence of global monopole changes the structure of black hole. The metric coefficient $g_{tϕ}$ contains hypergeometric function of the polar coordinate $r$, which is more complex than that in the usual slowly rotating black hole. The energy scale of symmetry breaking $η$ affects the black hole horizon and a deficit solid angle. Especially, the solid angle is surplus rather than deficit for a black hole with the phantom global monopole. We also study the correction originati…
In this paper we use the second order formalism of Hartle to study slowly and rigidly rotating stars with focus on the quadrupole moment of the object. The second order field equations for the interior fluid are solved numerically for different classes of possible equations of state and these solutions are then matched to a vacuum solution that includes the general asymptotically flat axisymmetric metric to second order, using the Darmois-Israel procedure. For these solutions we find that the quadrupole moment differs from that of the Kerr metric, as has also been found for some equations of s…
We investigate the area spectrum for rotating black holes which are Kerr and BTZ black holes. For slowly rotating black holes, we use the Maggiore's idea combined with Kunstatter's method to derive their area spectra, which are equally spaced.
A general formalism to find the density profile of a slowly rotating stellar object in modified gravity is presented. We derive a generic Lane-Emden equation and its analytical solution for a wide class of modified theories of gravity.
The motion of a neutral particle in the vicinity of a slowly rotating black hole in the Horava-Lifshitz theory of gravity and 3+1 dimensional topological Lifshitz black hole is investigated. Geodesics for radial motion of the particles are also plotted. Some different cases of the orbital motion of the particle are discussed where maximum and minimum values of the effective potential are calculated. Further the Bañados, Silk and West (BSW) mechanism is studied for these black holes. It is shown that the centre-of-mass energy (CME) of two colliding uncharged particles at the horizon of these bl…
Circularly rotating axisymmetric perfect fluid space-times are investigated to second order in the small angular velocity. The conditions of various special Petrov types are solved in a comoving tetrad formalism. A number of theorems are stated on the possible Petrov types of various fluid models. It is shown that Petrov type II solutions must reduce to the de Sitter spacetime in the static limit. Two space-times with a physically satisfactory energy-momentum tensor are investigated in detail. For the rotating incompressible fluid, it is proven that the Petrov type cannot be D. The equation of…
We investigate slowly rotating black holes in the Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity. For $Λ_W=0$ and $λ=1$, we find a slowly rotating black hole of the Kehagias-Sfetsos solution in asymptotically flat spacetimes. We discuss their thermodynamic properties by computing mass, temperature, angular momentum, and angular velocity on the horizon.
We have studied the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a slowly rotating black hole with Lorentz-violating parameter in Einstein-bumblebee gravity. We analyse the slow rotation approximation of the rotating black hole in the Einstein-bumblebee gravity, and obtain the master equations for scalar perturbation, vector perturbation and axial gravitational perturbation, respectively. Using the matrix method and the continuous fraction method, we numerically calculate the QNM frequencies. In particular, for scalar field, it shows that the QNMs up to the second order of rotation parameter have higher accura…
The absorption cross section of rotating black holes in the Randall-Sundrum brane-world scenario for massless scalar waves is obtained via the partial-wave method. A variety of incidence directions with respect to the black hole rotation axis is considered. Special attention is given to near-extreme black holes, in which cases the absorption cross section increases as the tidal charge becomes more negative. It is shown that black holes with different configurations can present capture cross sections/shadows of same size. However, in such cases, the absorption spectra are different mainly for s…

Hartle's slow rotation formalism is developed in the presence of a cosmological constant. We find the generalisation of the Hartle-Thorne vacuum metric, the Hartle-Thorne-(anti)-de Sitter metric, and find that it is always asymptotically (anti)-de Sitter. Next we consider Wahlquist's rotating perfect fluid interior solution in Hartle's formalism and discuss its matching to the Hartle-Thorne-(anti)-de Sitter metric. It is known that the Wahlquist solution cannot be matched to an asymptotically flat region and therefore does not provide a model of an isolated rotating body in this context. Howev…
Stationary, axisymmetric and slowly rotating vacuum spacetimes in the Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity are studied, and shown that, for any given spherical static vacuum solution of the HL theory (of any model, including the ones with an additional U(1) symmetry), there always exists a corresponding slowly rotating, stationary and axisymmetric vacuum solution, which reduces to the former, when the rotation is switched off. The rotation is universal and only implicitly depends on the models of the HL theory and their coupling constants through the spherical seed solution. As a result, all asymptoti…
We have evaluated the centrifugal force acting on a fluid element and the ellipticity of the fluid configuration, which is slowly rotating, using the Hartle-Thorne solution for different equations of state. The centrifugal force shows a maximum in every case, whereas the reversal in sign could be seen in only one case, and the system becomes unstable in other cases. The ellipticity as calculated from the usual definition shows maxima, whereas the definition obtained from the equilibration of the inertial forces, shows a negative behaviour, indicating that the system is prolate and not oblate. …
It is shown that the well-known non-Abelian static SU(2) black hole solutions have rotating generalizations, provided that the hypothesis of linearization stability is accepted. Surprisingly, this rotating branch has an asymptotically Abelian gauge field with an electric charge that cannot vanish, although the non-rotating limit is uncharged. We argue that this may be related to our second finding, namely that there are no globally regular slowly rotating excitations of the particle-like Bartnik-McKinnon solutions.
It was recently revealed that a rotating compact body responds dynamically when it is subjected to a gravitomagnetic tidal field, even when this field is idealized as time-independent. The dynamical response is characterized by time-changing internal currents, and it was suspected to originate from zero-frequency g-modes and r-modes driven by the tidal forces. In this paper we provide additional insights into the phenomenon by examining the tidal response of a rotating body within the framework of post-Newtonian gravity. This approach allows us to develop an intuitive picture for the phenomeno…
By using a new approach, we demonstrate analytic expressions for slowly rotating Gauss-Bonnet charged black holes with negative cosmological constant. Up to the linear order of the rotating parameter a, the mass, Hawking temperature and entropy of the charged black holes get no corrections from rotation.
Slowly rotating black holes in the non-projectable Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) theory were studied recently in Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 109}, 181101 (2012), and claimed that they do not exist. In this Comment, we show that this is incorrect, and such solutions indeed exist in the IR limit of the non-projectable HL theory.
Astrophysical black holes are generally surrounded by accretion disks, galactic matter and the omnipresent cosmic microwave background radiation, thus allowing for the concurrent propagation of both gravitational and sound waves. Recently, acoustic black holes were embedded in Schwarzschild spacetime allowing for the coexistence of event and acoustic horizons. Here, we obtain a class of perturbative solutions to the field equations of the relativistic Gross-Pitaevskii and Yang-Mills theories, which describe sound waves propagating on a curved slowly-rotating acoustic black hole, akin to Lense-…
We study low-amplitude crustal oscillations of slowly rotating relativistic stars consisting of a central fluid core and an outer thin solid crust. We estimate the effect of rotation on the torsional toroidal modes and on the interfacial and shear spheroidal modes. The results compared against the Newtonian ones for wide range of neutron star models and equations of state.
In this paper, we study slowly rotating black hole solutions in Lovelock gravity (n=3). These exact slowly rotating black hole solutions are obtained in uncharged and charged cases, respectively. Up to the linear order of the rotating parameter a, the mass, Hawking temperature and entropy of the uncharged black holes get no corrections from rotation. In charged case, we compute magnetic dipole moment and gyromagnetic ratio of the black holes. It is shown that the gyromagnetic ratio keeps invariant after introducing the Gauss-Bonnet and third order Lovelock interactions.
We have calculated the non-radial oscillation in slowly rotating relativistic stars with the Cowling approximation. The frequencies are compared with those based on the complete linearized equations of general relativity. It is found that the results with the approximation differ by less than about $20 %$ for typical relativistic stellar models. The approximation is more accurate for higher-order modes as in the Newtonian case.
