It is known that the topological T-duality exchanges $H$ and $F$-fluxes. In this paper, we reformulate the topological T-duality as an exchange of two Lie algebroids in the generalized tangent bundle. Then, we apply the same formulation to the Poisson-generalized geometry, which is introduced in arXiv:1408.2649 to define $R$-fluxes as field strength associated with $β$-transformations. We propose a definition of $Q$-flux associated with $β$-diffeomorphisms, and show that the topological T-duality exchanges $R$ and $Q$-fluxes.
In this paper, we extend the T-duality isomorphism by Gualtieri and Cavalcanti, from invariant exact Courant algebroids, to exotic exact Courant algebroids such that the momentum and winding numbers are exchanged, filling in a gap in the literature.
We introduce the notion of G-algebroid, generalising both Lie and Courant algebroids, as well as the algebroids used in $E_{n(n)}\times\mathbb{R}^+$ exceptional generalised geometry for $n\in\{3,\dots,6\}$. Focusing on the exceptional case, we prove a classification of "exact" algebroids and translate the related classification of Leibniz parallelisable spaces into a tractable algebraic problem. After discussing the general notion of Poisson-Lie duality, we show that the Poisson-Lie U-duality is compatible with the equations of motion of supergravity.
We study holomorphic Poisson manifolds and holomorphic Lie algebroids from the viewpoint of real Poisson geometry. We give a characterization of holomorphic Poisson structures in terms of the Poisson Nijenhuis structures of Magri-Morosi and describe a double complex which computes the holomorphic Poisson cohomology. A holomorphic Lie algebroid structure on a vector bundle $A\to X$ is shown to be equivalent to a matched pair of complex Lie algebroids $(T^{0,1}X,A^{1,0})$, in the sense of Lu. The holomorphic Lie algebroid cohomology of $A$ is isomorphic to the cohomology of the elliptic Lie alge…
Chern-Simons gauge theories in 3 dimensions and the Poisson Sigma Model (PSM) in 2 dimensions are examples of the same theory, if their field equations are interpreted as morphisms of Lie algebroids and their symmetries (on-shell) as homotopies of such morphisms. We point out that the (off-shell) gauge symmetries of the PSM in the literature are not globally well-defined for non-parallelizable Poisson manifolds and propose a covariant definition of them as left action of some finite-dimensional Lie algebroid. Our approach allows to avoid complications arising in the infinite dimensional super-…
The Poisson--Weil sigma model, worked out by us recently, stems from gauging a Hamiltonian Lie group symmetry of the target space of the Poisson sigma model. Upon gauge fixing of the BV master action, it yields interesting topological field theories such as the 2--dimensional Donaldson-Witten topological gauge theory and the gauged A topological sigma model. In this paper, generalizing the above construction, we construct the Lie algebroid Poisson sigma model. This is yielded by gauging a Hamiltonian Lie groupoid symmetry of the Poisson sigma model target space. We use the BV quantization appr…
A general form for the boundary coupling of a Lie algebroid Poisson sigma model is proposed. The approach involves using the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism in the AKSZ geometrical version, to write a BRST-invariant coupling for a representation up to homotopy of the target Lie algebroid or its subalgebroids. These considerations lead to a conjectural description of topological D-branes on generalized complex manifolds, which includes A-branes and B-branes as special cases.
Starting from a (non-associative) quasi-Poisson structure, the derivation of a Roytenberg-type algebra is presented. From the Jacobi identities of the latter, the most general form of Bianchi identities for fluxes (H,f,Q,R) is then derived. It is also explained how this approach is related to the mathematical theory of quasi-Lie and Courant algebroids.
We use a generalized Ricci tensor, defined for generalized metrics in Courant algebroids, to show that Poisson-Lie T-duality is compatible with the 1-loop renormalization group.
In this paper, we study the field transformation under U-duality in exceptional field theories. Take $SL(5)$ and $SO(5,5)$ exceptional field theories as examples, we explicitly show that the U-duality transformation is governed by the differential geometry of a corresponding Courant algebroid structure. The field redefinition specified by $SL(5)$ and $SO(5,5)$ transformations can be realized by Courant algebroid anchor mapping. Based on the existence of Courant algebroid in $E_d$ exceptional field theory, we expect that the Courant algebroid anchor mapping also exist in exceptional field theor…
In this paper, we use reduction by extended actions to give a construction of transitive Courant algebroids from string classes. We prove that T-duality commutes with the reductions and thereby determine global conditions for the existence of T-duals in heterotic string theory. In particular we find that T-duality exchanges string structures and gives an isomorphism of transitive Courant algebroids. Consequently we derive the T-duality transformation for generalised metrics and show that the heterotic Einstein equations are preserved. The presence of string structures significantly extends the…
A number of issues in heterotic double field theory are studied. This includes the analysis of the T-dual configurations of a flat constant gauge flux background, which turn out to be non-geometric. Performing a field redefinition to a non-geometric frame, these T-duals take a very simple form reminiscent of the constant Q- and R-flux backgrounds. In addition, it is shown how the analysis of arXiv:1304.2784 generalizes to heterotic generalized geometry. For every field redefinition specified by an O(D,D+n) transformation, the structure of the resulting supergravity action is governed by the di…
We generalize the $(n+1)$-dimensional twisted $R$-Poisson topological sigma model with flux on a target Poisson manifold to a Lie algebroid. Analyzing consistency of constraints in the Hamiltonian formalism and the gauge symmetry in the Lagrangian formalism, geometric conditions of the target space to make the topological sigma model consistent are identified. The geometric condition is an universal compatibility condition of a Lie algebroid with the multi-symplectic structure. This condition is a generalization of the momentum map theory of a Lie group and is regarded as a generalization of t…
We reexamine the notions of generalized Ricci tensor and scalar curvature on a general Courant algebroid, reformulate them using objects natural w.r.t. pull-backs and reductions, and obtain them from the variation of a natural action functional. This allows us to prove, in a very general setup, the compatibility of the Poisson-Lie T-duality with the renormalization group flow and with string background equations. We thus extend the known results to a much wider class of dualities, including the cases with gauging (so called dressing cosets, or equivariant Poisson-Lie T-duality). As an illustra…
We give a systematic derivation of the local expressions of the NS H-flux, geometric F- as well as non-geometric Q- and R-fluxes in terms of bivector beta- and two-form B-potentials including vielbeins. They are obtained using a supergeometric method on QP-manifolds by twist of the standard Courant algebroid on the generalized tangent space without flux. Bianchi identities of the fluxes are easily deduced. We extend the discussion to the case of the double space and present a formulation of T-duality in terms of canonical transformations between graded symplectic manifolds. Finally, the constr…
We construct a topological sigma model and a current algebra based on a Courant algebroid structure on a Poisson manifold. In order to construct models, we reformulate the Poisson Courant algebroid by supergeometric construction on a QP-manifold. A new duality of Courant algebroids which transforms H-flux and R-flux is proposed, where the transformation is interpreted as a canonical transformation of a graded symplectic manifold.
Starting from a Lie algebroid ${\cal A}$ over a space V we lift its action to the canonical transformations on the principle affine bundle ${\cal R}$ over the cotangent bundle $T^*V$. Such lifts are classified by the first cohomology $H^1({\cal A})$. The resulting object is the Hamiltonian algebroid ${\cal A}^H$ over ${\cal R}$ with the anchor map from $\G({\cal A}^H)$ to Hamiltonians of canonical transformations. Hamiltonian algebroids generalize the Lie algebras of canonical transformations. We prove that the BRST operator for ${\cal A}^H$ is cubic in the ghost fields as in the Lie algebra c…
In this contribution we review some of the interplay between sigma models in theoretical physics and novel geometrical structures such as Lie (n-)algebroids. The first part of the article contains the mathematical background, the definition of various algebroids as well as of Dirac structures, a joint generalization of Poisson, presymplectic, but also complex structures. Proofs are given in detail. The second part deals with sigma models. Topological ones, in particular the AKSZ and the Dirac sigma models, as generalizations of the Poisson sigma models to higher dimensions and to Dirac structu…
This paper is devoted to studying some properties of the Courant algebroids: we explain the so-called "conducting bundle construction" and use it to attach the Courant algebroid to Dixmier-Douady gerbe (following ideas of P. Severa). We remark that WZNW-Poisson condition of Klimcik and Strobl (math.SG/0104189) is the same as Dirac structure in some particular Courant algebroid. We propose the construction of the Lie algebroid on the loop space starting from the Lie algebroid on the manifold and conjecture that this construction applied to the Dirac structure above should give the Lie algebroid…
We study a new kind of Courant algebroid on Poisson manifolds, which is a variant of the generalized tangent bundle in the sense that the roles of tangent and the cotangent bundle are exchanged. Its symmetry is a semidirect product of $β$-diffeomorphisms and $β$-transformations. It is a starting point of an alternative version of the generalized geometry based on the cotangent bundle, such as Dirac structures and generalized Riemannian structures. In particular, $R$-fluxes are formulated as a twisting of this Courant algebroid by a local $β$-transformations, in the same way as $H$-fluxes are t…
We study the T-dualisability criteria of Chatzistavrakidis, Deser and Jonke [3] who recently used Lie algebroid gauge theories to obtain sigma models exhibiting a "T-duality without isometry". We point out that those T-dualisability criteria are not written invariantly in [3] and depend on the choice of the algebroid framing. We then show that there always exists an isometric framing for which the Lie algebroid gauging boils down to standard Yang-Mills gauging. The "T-duality without isometry" of Chatzistavrakidis, Deser and Jonke is therefore nothing but traditional isometric non-Abelian T-du…
Starting with a Lie algebroid ${\cal A}$ over a space $M$ we lift its action to the canonical transformations on the affine bundle ${\cal R}$ over the cotangent bundle $T^*M$. Such lifts are classified by the first cohomology $H^1({\cal A})$. The resulting object is a Hamiltonian algebroid ${\cal A}^H$ over ${\cal R}$ with the anchor map from $\G({\cal A}^H)$ to Hamiltonians of canonical transformations. Hamiltonian algebroids generalize Lie algebras of canonical transformations. We prove that the BRST operator for ${\cal A}^H$ is cubic in the ghost fields as in the Lie algebra case. The Poiss…
Inspired by the Poisson Sigma Model and its relation to 2d gravity, we consider models governing morphisms from TSigma to any Lie algebroid E, where Sigma is regarded as d-dimensional spacetime manifold. We address the question of minimal conditions to be placed on a bilinear expression in the 1-form fields, S^ij(X) A_i A_j, so as to permit an interpretation as a metric on Sigma. This becomes a simple compatibility condition of the E-tensor S with the chosen Lie algebroid structure on E. For the standard Lie algebroid E=TM the additional structure is identified with a Riemannian foliation of M…
(Quasi-)Poisson-Lie T-duality of string effective actions is described in the framework of generalized geometry of Courant algebroids. The approach is based on a generalization of Riemannian geometry in the context of Courant algebroids, including a proper version of a Levi-Civita connection. In our approach, the dilaton field is encoded in a Levi-Civita connection and its form is determined by the Courant algebroid geometry. Explicit examples of background solutions are provided using the approach developed in the paper.
We construct the moduli spaces associated to the solutions of equations of motion (modulo gauge transformations) of the Poisson sigma model with target being an integrable Poisson manifold. The construction can be easily extended to a case of a generic integrable Lie algebroid. Indeed for any Lie algebroid one can associate a BF-like topological field theory which localizes on the space of algebroid morphisms, that can be seen as a generalization of flat connections to the groupoid case. We discuss the finite gauge transformations and discuss the corresponding moduli spaces. We consider the th…
Courant algebroids provide a useful mathematical tool (not only) in string theory. It is thus important to define and examine their morphisms. To some extent, this was done before using an analogue of canonical relations known from symplectic geometry. However, it turns out that applications in physics require a more general notion. We aim to provide a self-contained and detailed treatment of Courant algebroid relations and morphisms. A particular emphasis is placed on providing enough motivating examples. In particular, we show how Poisson-Lie T-duality and Kaluza-Klein reduction of supergrav…
The Lie algebroids are generalization of the Lie algebras. They arise, in particular, as a mathematical tool in investigations of dynamical systems with the first class constraints. Here we consider canonical symmetries of Hamiltonian systems generated by a special class of Lie algebroids. The ``coordinate part'' of the Hamiltonian phase space is the Poisson manifold $M$ and the Lie algebroid brackets are defined by means of the Poisson bivector. The Lie algebroid action defined on $M$ can be lifted to the phase space. The main observation is that the classical BRST operator has the same form …
We consider a class of \textit{factorizable} Poisson brackets which includes almost all reasonable Poisson structures. A particular case of the factorizable brackets are those associated with symplectic Lie algebroids. The BRST theory is applied to describe the geometry underlying these brackets as well as to develop a deformation quantization procedure in this particular case. This can be viewed as an extension of the Fedosov deformation quantization to a wide class of \textit{irregular} Poisson structures. In a more general case, the factorizable Poisson brackets are shown to be closely conn…
