Precision tests of decay law of radioactive nuclei have not so far found any deviation from the exponential decay law at early time, as predicted by quantum mechanics. In this paper, we show that the quantum decoherence time (i.e. the timescale of nonexponential decay) of the quasifission or fission process should be of the order of attosecond considering the atom of the fissioning nucleus as a quantum detector. Hence, the observed decay timescale of the quasifission or fission process of even highly excited (EX greater than 50 MeV) transuranium and uraniumlike complexes should be rather long (of the order of attosecond) in spite of their very fast exponential decay timescale (of the order of zeptosecond) as measured by the nuclear techniques. Recent controversy regarding the observation of very long (of the order of attosecond ) and very short (of the order of zeptosecond ) quasifission or fission timescales for similar systems at similar excitation energies as obtained by direct techniques (crystal blocking, X ray fission fragment) and nuclear techniques could be interpreted as evidence for nonexponential decays in nuclear systems
Elastic electron scattering from oriented odd-Aaxially deformed nuclei is studied in the plane-wave Born approximation. The nuclear structure is described within a microscopic selfconsistent Skyrme deformed Hartree-Fock approximation with pairing correlations. The interference form factors between monopole and quadrupole Coulomb terms that characterize the nuclear response with aligned nuclear targets are shown to increase or decrease the unpolarized cross-section, depending on the sign of the quadrupole deformation. This feature provides valuable information on the nuclear deformation that ca…
The mechanism of deuteron production in heavy-ion collisions is shown to have a significant impact on the shape of the modified combinants of their multiplicity distribution. In light of this observation, an experimental study is proposed to tackle the long-standing problem of nuclei synthesis in hadronic and nuclear collisions. The proposed approach has the potential to provide stringent constraints on the models of deuteron synthesis.
The study of liquid-gas phase transition in heavy ion collisions has generated a lot of interest amongst the nuclear physicists in the recent years. In heavy ion collisions, there is no direct way of measuring the state variables like entropy, pressure, energy and hence unambiguous characterization of phase transition becomes difficult. This work proposes new signatures of phase transition that can be extracted from the observables which are easily accessible in experiments. It is observed that the temperature dependence of the first order derivative of the order parameters in nuclear liquid g…
A deep convolutional neural network (CNN) is developed to study symmetry energy $E_{\rm sym}(ρ)$ effects by learning the mapping between the symmetry energy and the two-dimensional (transverse momentum and rapidity) distributions of protons and neutrons in heavy-ion collisions. Supervised training is performed with labelled data-set from the ultrarelativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model simulation. It is found that, by using proton spectra on event-by-event basis as input, the accuracy for classifying the soft and stiff $E_{\rm sym}(ρ)$ is about 60% due to large event-by-event flu…
We show that the correlation between the elliptic momentum anisotropy, $v_2$, and the average transverse momentum, $[p_T]$, at fixed multiplicity in small system nuclear collisions carries information on the origin of the observed momentum anisotropy. A calculation using a hybrid IP-Glasma+\textsc{Music}+UrQMD model that includes contributions from final state response to the initial geometry as well as initial state momentum anisotropies of the Color Glass Condensate, predicts a characteristic sign change of the correlator $\hatρ(v_2^2,[p_T])$ as a function of charged particle multiplicity in…
Multiple high precision $β$-decay measurements are being carried out these days on various nuclei, in search of beyond the Standard Model signatures. These measurements necessitate accurate standard model theoretical predictions to be compared with. Motivated by the experimental surge, we present a formalism for such a calculation of $β$-decay observables, with controlled accuracy, based on a perturbative analysis of the theoretical observables related to the phenomena, including high order nuclear recoil and shape corrections. The accuracy of the corrections is analyzed by identifying a hiera…
