The complete structure of the Casimir ${\cal{W}\cal{A}}_{\it{N}}$ algebras are shown to exist in such a way that the Casimir ${\cal{W}\cal{A}}_{\it{N}}$ algebra is a kind of truncated type of $\cal{W}_{\infty}$ algebra both in the primary and in the quadratic basis, first using the associativity conditions in the basis of primary fields and second using the Miura basis coming from the free field realization as a different basis. Finally one can say that the Casimir ${\cal{W}\cal{A}}_{\it{N}}$ algebra is a kind of truncated type of $\cal{W}_{\infty}$algebra,so it is clear from any construction of $\cal{W}_{\infty}$ algebra that by putting infinite number of fields $W_{s}$ with $s>N$ to zero we arrive at the Casimir ${\cal{W}\cal{A}}_{\it{N}}$ algebra.
New Casimir energy results for massless scalar field in some 3 -dimensional cavities are presented. We attempted to discuss the correlation between the sign and the magnitude of the energy and the shape of the cavities.
The fermion condensate (FC) is investigated for a (2+1)-dimensional massive fermionic field confined on a truncated cone with an arbitrary planar angle deficit and threaded by a magnetic flux. Different combinations of the boundary conditions are imposed on the edges of the cone. They include the bag boundary condition as a special case. By using the generalized Abel-Plana-type summation formula for the series over the eigenvalues of the radial quantum number, the edge-induced contributions in the FC are explicitly extracted. The FC is an even periodic function of the magnetic flux with the pe…
The Casimir stress on two concentric spherical shell in de Sitter background for massless scalar field is calculated. The scalar field satisfies Dirichlet boundary conditions on the spheres. The metric is written in conformally flat form to make maximum use of Minkowski space calculations. Then the Casimir stress is calculated for inside and outside of the shell with different backgrounds. This model may be used to study the effect of the Casimir stress on the dynamics of the domain wall formation in inflationary models of early universe.
In this paper we examine Casimir effect in the case of tachyonic field, which is connected with particles with negative four-momentum square. We consider here only the case of one dimensional, scalar field. In order to describe tachyonic field, we use the absolute synchronization scheme preserving Lorentz invariance. The renormalized vacuum energy is calculated by means of Abel-Plana formula. Finaly, the Casimir energy and Casimir force as the functions of distance are obtained. In order to compare the resulting formula with the standard one, we calculate the Casimir energy and Casimir force f…
A simple method for calculating the Casimir energy for a sphere is developed which is based on a direct mode summation and counter integration in a complex plane of eigenfrequencies. The method uses only classical equations determining the eigenfrequencies of the quantum field under consideration. Efficiency of this approach is demonstrated by calculation of the Casimir energy for a perfectly conducting spherical shell and for a massless scalar field obeying the Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions on sphere. The possibility of rationalizing the removal of divergences in this problem as a…
It is given a way of computing Casimir eigenvalues for Weyl orbits as well as for irreducible representations of Lie algebras. A kappa(s) number of polinomials which depend on rank N are obtained explicitly for A_N Casimir operators of order s where kappa(s) is the number of partitions of s into positive integers except 1. It is also emphasized that these eigenvalue polinomials prove useful in obtaining formulas to calculate weight multiplicities and in explicit calculations of the whole cohomology ring of Classical and also Exceptional Lie algebras.
Quantum vacuum energy has been known to have observable consequences since 1948 when Casimir calculated the force of attraction between parallel uncharged plates, a phenomenon confirmed experimentally with ever increasing precision. Casimir himself suggested that a similar attractive self-stress existed for a conducting spherical shell, but Boyer obtained a repulsive stress. Other geometries and higher dimensions have been considered over the years. Local effects, and divergences associated with surfaces and edges have been studied by several authors. Quite recently, Graham et al. have re-exam…
In this paper we discuss the computation of Casimir energy on a quantum computer. The Casimir energy is an ideal quantity to calculate on a quantum computer as near term hybrid classical quantum algorithms exist to calculate the ground state energy and the Casimir energy gives physical implications for this quantity in a variety of settings. Depending on boundary conditions and whether the field is bosonic or fermionic we illustrate how the Casimir energy calculation can be set up on a quantum computer and calculated using the Variational Quantum Eigensolver algorithm with IBM QISKit. We compa…
The second order casimirs for the affine Krichever--Novikov algebras $\hat{\mathfrak{gl}}_{g,2}$ and $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_{g,2}$ are described. More general operators which we call semi-casimirs are introduced. It is proven that the semi-casimirs induce well-defined operators on conformal blocks and, for a certain moduli space of Riemann surfaces with two marked points and fixed jets of local coordinates, there is a natural projection of its tangent space onto the space of these operators. It is (non-formally) explained how semi-casimirs appear in course of operator quantization of the second …
This survey summarizes briefly results obtained recently in the Casimir energy studies devoted to the following subjects: i) account of the material characteristics of the media in calculations of the vacuum energy (for example, Casimir energy of a dilute dielectric ball); ii) application of the spectral geometry methods for investigating the vacuum energy of quantized fields with the goal to gain some insight, specifically, in the geometrical origin of the divergences that enter the vacuum energy and to develop the relevant renormalization procedure; iii) a universal method for calculating th…
Following the derivation of the Green function for the massless scalar field satisfying the Dirichlet boundary condition on the Plane (x > 0, y = 0), we calculate the Casimir energy.
In this study, the Casimir energy for massive scalar field with periodic boundary condition was calculated on spherical surfaces with $S^1$, $S^2$ and $S^3$ topologies. To obtain the Casimir energy on spherical surface, the contribution of the vacuum energy of Minkowski space is usually subtracted from that of the original system. In large mass limit for surface $S^2$; however, some divergences would eventually remain in the obtained result. To remove these remaining divergences, a secondary renormalization program was manually performed. In the present work, a direct approach for calculation …
The Galilean covariance, formulated in 5-dimensions space, describes the non-relativistic physics in a way similar to quantum field theory. Using a non-relativistic approach the Stefan-Boltzmann law and the Casimir effect at finite temperature for a particle with spin zero and $1/2$ are calculated. The Thermo Field Dynamics is used to calculate the temperature effect.
The Casimir effect giving rise to an attractive force between the closely spaced two concentric spheres that confine the massless scalar field is calculated by using a direct mode summation with contour integration in the complex plane of eigenfrequencies. We devoleped a new approach appropriate for the calculation of the Casimir energy for spherical boundary conditions. The Casimir energy for a massless scalar field between the closely spaced two concentric spheres coincides with the Casimir energy of the parallel plates for a massless scalar field in the limit when the dimensionless paramete…
We calculate the renormalized vacuum energy density for a massless scalar field confined between two nearby parallel plates formed by ideal uncharged conductors, placed very close to the surface of a rotating spherical gravitational source with mass $M$, radius $R$ and momentum angular $J$, at the equatorial region. We consider that the source rotates slowly and that the gravitational field is weak. Corrections to the Casimir energy density induced by the gravitational field generated by this source are calculated up to $M/R^2$ order. The obtained results show us that there is an important mod…
In this paper, a massless scalar field coupled to gravity is considered. Then the Casimir effect at finite temperature is calculated. Such development is carried out in the Thermo Field Dynamics formalism. This approach presents a topological structure that allows for investigating the effects of temperature and the size effect in a similar way. These effects are calculated considering Gödel-type solutions as a gravitational background. The Stefan-Boltzmann law and its consistency are analyzed for both causal and non-causal Gödel-type regions. In this space-time and for any region, the Casimir…
Casimir energy for a massless scalar field for a conical wedge and a conical cavity are calculated. The group generated by the images is employed in deriving the Green functions as well as the wave functions and the energy spectrum.
We compute the full ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ and ${\cal O}(α_s^4\logα_s)$ corrections to the potential $V_R(r)$ between the static color sources, where $V_R(r)$ is defined from the Wilson loop in a general representation $R$ of a general gauge group $G$. We find a violation of the Casimir scaling of the potential, for the first time, at ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$. The effect of the Casimir scaling violation is predicted to reduce the tangent of $V_R(r)/C_R$ proportionally to specific color factors dependent on $R$. We study the sizes of the Casimir scaling violation for various $R$'s in the case $G=SU(3)$. We…
Casimir interactions (due to the massless scalar field fluctuations) of two surfaces which are close to each other are studied. After a brief general presentation, explicit calculations for co-axial cylinders, co-centric spheres and co-axial cones are performed.
The stress tensor of a massless scalar field satisfying Robin boundary conditions on two one-dimensional wall in two-dimensional Schwarzschild background is calculated. We show that vacuum expectation value of stress tensor can be obtained explicitly by Casimir effect, trace anomaly and Hawking radiation.
We utilize Effective Field Theory(EFT) techniques to calculate the casimir torque on a cylindrical gear in the presence of a polarizable but neutral object. We present results for the energy and torque as a function of angle for a gear with multiple cogs, as well as for the case of a concentric cylindrical gear.
We apply to the massive scalar field a method recently proposed by Schwinger to calculate the Casimir effect. The method is applied with two different regularization schemes: the Schwinger original one by means of Poisson formula and another one by means of analytical continuation.
The Casimir effect for {mass dimension one fermion fields (sometimes called Elko)} in $3+1$ dimension is obtained using Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is shown the existence of a repulsive force four times greater than the case of the scalar field. The precise reason for such differences are highlighted and interpreted, as well as the right parallel of the Casimir effect due to scalar and fermionic fields.
In this paper we calculate the Casimir energy for spherical shell with massless self-interacting scalar filed which satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions on the shell. Using zeta function regularization and heat kernel coefficients we obtain the divergent contributions inside and outside of Casimir energy. The effect of self-interacting term is similar with existing of mass for filed. In this case some divergent part arises. Using the renormalization procedure of bag model we can cancel these divergent parts.
We calculate the total internal energy, total energy density and pressure, and the free energy for the neutrino and electromagnetic fields in Einstein and closed Friedmann cosmological models. The Casimir contributions to all these quantities are separated. The asymptotic expressions for both the total internal energy and free energy, and for the Casimir contributions to them are found in the limiting cases of low and high temperatures. It is shown that the neutrino field does not possess a classical limit at high temperature. As for the electromagnetic field, we demonstrate that the total int…
We discuss corrections to the Casimir effect at finite temperature and effective field theory. Recently, it has been shown that effective field theories can reproduce radiative corrections to the Casimir energy calculated in full QED. We apply effective field theory methods at finite temperature and reproduce the Casimir free energy. We show that the system undergoes dimensional reduction at high temperature and that it can be described by an effective three-dimensional field theory.
Quantum fluctuations are the key concepts of quantum mechanics. Quantum fluctuations of quantum fields induce a zero-point energy shift under spatial boundary conditions. This quantum phenomenon, called the Casimir effect, has been attracting much attention beyond the hierarchy of energy scales, ranging from elementary particle physics to condensed matter physics together with photonics. However, the application of the Casimir effect to spintronics has not yet been investigated enough, particularly to ferrimagnetic thin films, although yttrium iron garnet (YIG) is one of the best platforms for…
The torque density per unit height exerted on a perfectly conducting wedge due to the quantum vacuum fluctuations (the Casimir torque) is obtained. A canonical quantum field theoretical approach with the method of calculating vacuum-to-vacuum propagator (Green function) [1] is used.
We study the field theoretical model of a scalar field in presence of spacial inhomogeneities in form of one and two finite width mirrors (material slabs). The interaction of the scalar field with the defect is described with position-dependent mass term. For the single layer system we develop a rigorous calculation method and derive explicitly the propagator of the theory, S-matrix elements and the Casimir self-energy of the slab. Detailed investigation of particular limits of self-energy is presented, and connection to know cases is discussed. The calculation method is found applicable to th…
