Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT) manifolds are certain compact complex manifolds built from number fields. Conversely, we show that the fundamental group often pins down the number field uniquely. We relate the first homology to some interesting ideal. OT manifolds are never Kähler, but carry an LCK metric (locally conformally Kähler). Oeljeklaus and Toma used them to disprove a conjecture on the Betti numbers of spaces carrying LCK metrics. Mysteriously, the volume for this metric gives the discriminant and Dirichlet regulator of the number field. Totally unlike the above topological aspects, there does not seem to be a conceptual reason why this should be expected. Is it a coincidence? We explore this and see what happens if we (entirely experimentally!) regard them as "baby siblings" of, say, hyperbolic manifolds coming from number fields. We ask the same questions and obtain similar answers, but ultimately it remains unclear whether we are chasing ghosts or not.
We show that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds $X(K, U)$ where $K$ is a number field of signature $(s, t)$ such that $s\geq 1,$ $t\geq 2$ and $s\geq 2t$ admit no lck metric. Combined with the earlier results by K. Oeljeklaus - M. Toma and A. Dubickas this completely solves the problem of existence of LCK metrics on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds.
We give explicit harmonic representatives of Dolbeault cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds and show that they are geometrically Dolbeault formal. We also give explicit harmonic representatives of Bott-Chern cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds of type $(s,1)$ and study the Angella-Tomassini inequality.
Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds are complex non-Kähler manifolds constructed by Oeljeklaus and Toma from certain number fields, and generalizing the Inoue surfaces $S_m$. We prove that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds contain no compact complex curves.
A locally conformally Kähler (LCK) manifold is a manifold which is covered by a Kähler manifold, with the deck transform group acting by homotheties. We show that the search for LCK metrics on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds leads to a (yet another) variation on Kronecker's theorem on units. In turn, this implies that on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifold associated to number fields with $2t$ complex embeddings and $s$ real embeddings with $s<t$ there is no LCK metric.
Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds are complex non-Kähler manifolds constructed by Oeljeklaus and Toma from certain number fields. These manifolds generalize Inoue surfaces of type $S_m$. In this work it is shown that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds could not contain any compact complex submanifolds of dimension 2 (surfaces) except Inoue surfaces.
We prove the Hodge symmetry type result on the Dolbeault cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with values in the direct sum of holomorphic line bundles. Consequently, we show the vanishing and non-vanishing of Dolbeault cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with values in holomorphic line bundles.
We study the Chern-Ricci flow, an evolution equation of Hermitian metrics, on a family of Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT-) manifolds which are non-Kähler compact complex manifolds with negative Kodaira dimension. We prove that, after an initial conformal change, the flow converges, in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense, to a torus with a flat Riemannian metric determined by the OT-manifolds themselves.
We prove the non-existence of Vaisman metrics on some solvmanifolds with left-invariant complex structures. By this theorem, we show that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds does not admit Vaisman metrics.
We investigate the pluriclosed flow on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds. We parametrize left-invariant pluriclosed metrics on Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds and we classify the ones which lift to an algebraic soliton of the pluriclosed flow on the universal covering. We further show that the pluriclosed flow starting from a left-invariant pluriclosed metric has a long-time solution $ω_t$ which once normalized collapses to a torus in the Gromov-Hausdorff sense. Moreover the lift of $\tfrac{1}{1+t}ω_t$ to the universal covering of the manifold converges in the Cheeger-Gromov sense to $(\mathbb H^r\times\mat…
We compute the Dolbeault cohomology of geodesically convex domains contained in Cousin groups which satisfy a strong dispersiveness condition. As a consequence we obtain a description of the Dolbeault cohomology of Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds and in particular the fact that the Hodge decomposition holds for their cohomology.
The Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT-) manifolds are compact, complex, non-Kahler manifolds constructed by Oeljeklaus and Toma, and generalizing the Inoue surfaces. Their construction uses the number-theoretic data: a number field $K$ and a torsion-free subgroup $U$ in the group of units of the ring of integers of $K$, with rank of $U$ equal to the number of real embeddings of $K$. We prove that any complex subvariety of smallest possible positive dimension in an OT-manifold is also flat affine. This is used to show that if all non-trivial elements in $U$ are primitive in $K$, then $X$ contains no proper c…
The Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT-) manifolds are complex manifolds constructed by Oeljeklaus and Toma from certain number fields, and generalizing the Inoue surfaces $S_m$. On each OT-manifold we construct a holomorphic line bundle with semipositive curvature form and trivial Chern class. Using this form, we prove that the OT-manifolds admitting a locally conformally Kahler structure have no non-trivial complex subvarieties. The proof is based on the Strong Approximation theorem for number fields, which implies that any leaf of the null-foliation of w is Zariski dense.
Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT) manifolds are higher dimensional analogues of Inoue-Bombieri surfaces and their construction is associated to a finite extension $K$ of $Q$ and a subgroup of units $U$. We characterize the existence of pluriclosed metrics (also known as strongly K\" ahler with torsion (SKT) metrics) on any OT manifold $X(K, U)$ purely in terms of number-theoretical conditions, yielding restrictions on the third Betti number $b_3$ and the Dolbeault cohomology group $H^{2,1}_{\overline{\partial}}$. Combined with the main result in [D20], these numerical conditions render explicit examples of…
In this paper we construct a family of complex analytic manifolds that generalize Inoue surfaces and Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds. To a matrix $M$ in $SL(N,\mathbb{Z})$ satisfying some mild conditions on its characteristic polynomial we associate a manifold $T(M,\mathbf{D})$ (depending on an auxiliary parameter $\mathbf{D}$). This manifold fibers over the $s$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^s$, where $s$ is the number of real eigenvalues of $M$. The fiber is the $N$-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^{N}$, and the monodromy matrices are certain polynomials of the matrix $M$. The basic difference of our …
Oeljeklaus-Toma (OT) manifolds are complex non-Kähler manifolds whose construction arises from specific number fields. In this note, we compute their de Rham cohomology in terms of invariants associated to the background number field. This is done by two distinct approaches, one using invariant cohomology and the other one using the Leray-Serre spectral sequence. In addition, we compute also their Morse-Novikov cohomology. As an application, we show that the low degree Chern classes of any complex vector bundle on an OT manifold vanish in the real cohomology. Other applications concern the OT …
We study the Morse-Novikov cohomology and its almost-symplectic counterpart on manifolds admitting locally conformally symplectic structures. More precisely, we introduce lcs cohomologies and we study elliptic Hodge theory, dualities, Hard Lefschetz Condition. We consider solvmanifolds and Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds. In particular, we prove that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with precisely one complex place, and under an additional arithmetic condition, satisfy the Mostow property. This holds in particular for the Inoue surface of type $S^0$.
This paper is about a generalization of famous Inoue's surfaces. Let $M$ be a matrix in $SL(2n+1,\mathbb{Z})$ having only one real eigenvalue which is simple. We associate to $M$ a complex manifold $T_M$ of complex dimension $n+1$. This manifold fibers over $S^1$ with the fiber $\mathbb{T}^{2n+1}$ and monodromy $M^\top$. Our construction is elementary and does not use algebraic number theory. We show that some of the Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds are biholomorphic to the manifolds of type $T_M$. We prove that if $M$ is not diagonalizable, then $T_M$ does not admit a Kähler structure and is not hom…
We consider locally conformal Kaehler geometry as an equivariant, homothetic Kaehler geometry (K,Γ). We show that the de Rham class of the Lee form can be naturally identified with the homomorphism projecting Γto its dilation factors, thus completing the description of locally conformal Kaehler geometry in this equivariant setting. The rank r of a locally conformal Kaehler manifold is the rank of the image of this homomorphism. Using algebraic number theory, we show that r is non-trivial, providing explicit examples of locally conformal Kaehler manifolds with 1<r<b_1. As far as we know, these …
We review the properties of the Morse-Novikov cohomology and compute it for all known compact complex surfaces with locally conformally Kähler metrics. We present explicit computations for the Inoue surfaces $\mathcal{S}^0$, $\mathcal{S}^+$, $\mathcal{S}^-$ and classify the locally conformally Kähler (and the tamed locally conformally symplectic) forms on $\mathcal{S}^0$. We prove the nonexistence of LCK metrics with potential and more generally, of $d_θ$-exact LCK metrics on Inoue surfaces and Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds.
We study the existence of strong Kähler with torsion (SKT) metrics and of symplectic forms taming invariant complex structures $J$ on solvmanifolds $G/Γ$ providing some negative results for some classes of solvmanifolds. In particular, we show that if either $J$ is invariant under the action of a nilpotent complement of the nilradical of $G$ or $J$ is abelian or $G$ is almost abelian (not of type (I)), then the solvmanifold $G/Γ$ cannot admit any symplectic form taming the complex structure $J$, unless $G/Γ$ is Kähler. As a consequence, we show that the family of non-Kähler complex manifolds c…
