Current experimental information on the charm meson decay observables in which the $c\to s\ellν_\ell$ transitions occur is well compatible with the Standard Model predictions. Recent precise lattice calculations of the $D_s$ meson decay constant and form factors in $D\to K\ellν$ decays offer a possibility to search for the small deviations from the Standard Model predictions in the next generation of the high intensity flavour experiments. We revisit constraints from these processes on the new physics contributions in the effective theory approach. We investigate new physics effects which might appear in the differential distributions for the longitudinally and transversely polarised $K^\ast$ in $D\to K^\ast\ellν_\ell$ decays. Present constraints from these observables are rather weak, but could be used to constrain new physics effects in the future. In the case of $D\to K\ellν$ we identify observables sensitive on new physics contribution coming from the scalar Wilson coefficient, namely the forward-backward and the transversal muon asymmetries. By allowing that new physics modifies only the second lepton generation but not the first one, we identify allowed region for the differential decay rate for the process $D\to Kμν_μ$ and find that it is allowed to deviate from the Standard Model prediction by only few percent. The lepton flavour universality violation can be tested in the ratio $R_{μ/e}(q^2)\equiv \frac{dΓ^{(μ)}}{dq^2}/\frac{dΓ^{(e)}}{dq^2}$. If the first lepton generation behaves as in the Standard Model, we find, using current constraint on the scalar Wilson coefficient, that the ratio $R_{μ/e}(q^2)$ is currently allowed to be within the range $(0.9, 1.2)$, depending on the value of $q^2$.
We make predictions for the exclusive semileptonic and the non-leptonic decay widths of the B_c meson. We evaluate the B_c semileptonic form factors for different decay channels in a relativistic model, and use factorization to obtain the non-leptonic decay widths.
We summarize the status of semileptonic and leptonic $B$ decays, including $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ exclusive and inclusive determinations, decays to excited states of the charm meson spectrum and decays into $τ$ leptons.
We employ the relativistic constituent quark model to give a unified description of the leptonic and semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons (π, K, D, D_s, B, B_s). The calculated leptonic decay constants and form factors are found to be in good agreement with available experimental data and other approaches. We reproduce the results of spin-flavor symmetry in the heavy quark limit.
We study the forward-backward and the CP-violating asymmetries (both time-independent and time-dependent) in rare semileptonic and radiative leptonic B_{d,s}-decays and investigate the sensitivity of these asymmetries to the extensions of the Standard model.
The status of lattice calculations of heavy quark phenomenology is reviewed. Particular emphasis is placed on the understanding and control of the calculational uncertainties. The ensuing implications for constraining the CKM matrix elements are discussed.
We present a global analysis of leptonic and semileptonic kaon decays data, including all recent results by BNL-E865, KLOE, KTeV, ISTRA+, and NA48. Experimental results are critically reviewed and combined, taking into account theoretical (both analytical and numerical) constraints on the semileptonic kaon form factors. This analysis leads to a very accurate determination of Vus and allows us to perform several stringent tests of the Standard Model.
We put constraints on several products of R-parity violating lambda lambda' and lambda' lambda' type couplings from leptonic and semileptonic tau, B_d and B_s decays. Most of them are one to two orders of magnitude better than the existing bounds, and almost free from theoretical uncertainties. A significant improvement of these bounds can be made in high luminosity tau-charm or B factories.
We discuss the possibilities of extracting the constraints on New Physics by using the current data on the leptonic and semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons. In doing so we use a general low energy Lagrangian that besides the vector and axial operators also includes the (pseudo-)scalar and tensor ones. In obtaining constraints on New Physics couplings we combine the experimental information concerning several decay modes with the accurate lattice QCD results for the hadronic matrix elements. We propose to study new observables that can be extracted from the angular analysis of the semile…
Large long-distance standard model effects in FCNC semileptonic D decays can make observable these processes in future measurements. Eventual disagreements in this sector and/or the observation of lepton family violating (LFV) D decays would require an explanatio beyond the SM framework. In this paper we confront present experimental data on leptonic and semileptonic FCNC and LFV D meson decays with a version of the two-Higgs doublet model that allows these effects to occur at tree- level. The stringent bounds on the parameters of the model are obtained from D^0 --> l^+l'^- and D --> pi l^+l'^…
Leptonic and semileptonic decays in the charm sector have been well studied in recent years. With the largest data sample near $D\bar D$ threshold, precision measurements of leptonic and semileptonic decays of charm meson and baryon are perfromed at BESIII. Test for letpon flavor universality is also performed. Sensitivity for rare leptonic and semileptonic charm decays is significantly improved taking advantage of the huge statistics in LHCb and the $B$ factories.
It has been known that there exists a disagreement emerged between the determination of $|V_{ub}|$ from inclusive $B \to X_u\ellν$ decays and exclusive $B \to π\ellν$ decays. In order to solve the mismatch, we investigate the left-right (LR) mixing effects, denoted by $ξ_u$, in leptonic and semileptonic $b \to u$ decays. We find that the new interactions $(V+A)\times (V-A)$ induced via the LR mixing can explain the mismatch between the values of $|V_{ub}|$ if Re$(ξ_{u})=-(0.14 \pm 0.12)$. Furthermore, we also find that the LR mixing effects can enhance the branching fractions for $B \to τν$ an…
We address the impact of a modified $W \ell ν$ coupling on a wide range of observables, such as $τ$ leptonic and mesonic decays, leptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons, as well as semileptonic meson decays. In particular, we concentrate on deviations from lepton flavour universality, focusing on the ratios $R_{P} = Γ(P \to \ell ν) / Γ(P \to \ell' ν)$, with $P=K, π, D, D_s$, $R(D)={Γ(B^+ \to D τ^+ ν)}/{Γ(B^+ \to D\ell^+ ν)}$, $R τ={Γ(τ\to μνν)}/{Γ(τ\to eνν)}$, $R^{\ell τ}_P=Γ(τ\to Pν)/Γ(P\to \ell ν)$, and $\text{BR}(B \to τν)$. We further consider leptonic gauge boson decays, such as $W\to \ell…
In this paper, we review recent calculations of the CKM matrix elements $|V_{cd}|$ and $|V_{cs}|$ from semileptonic and leptonic decays of $D$ and $D_s$ mesons using lattice QCD methods.
A heavy-quark limit of the Dyson-Schwinger equations is introduced and used in an exploratory study of leptonic and semileptonic decays of heavy mesons. The application of this framework to heavy-to-light semileptonic decays, which require a good knowledge of light-quark propagation characteristics and light-meson bound state amplitudes, is illustrated.
Within the framework of the factorization approximation, two body non-leptonic decays of $B$ mesons are related to semileptonic matrix elements and form factors, evaluated with an effective lagrangian incorporating both chiral and heavy quark symmetries. Using semileptonic $D$-decay data, estimates for nonleptonic processes are obtained.
A summary of WG II of the CKM 2018 conference on semileptonic and leptonic $b$-hadron decays is presented. This includes discussions on the CKM matrix element magitudes $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$, lepton universality tests such as $R(D^{*})$ and leptonic decays. As is usual for semileptonic and leptonic decays, much discussion is devoted towards the interplay between theoretical QCD calculations and the experimental measurements.
A relativistic constituent quark model is adopted to give an unified description of the leptonic and semileptonic decays of pseudoscalar mesons (π, K, D, D_s, B, B_s). The calculated leptonic decay constants and form factors are found to be in good agreement with available experimental data and the results of other approaches. Eventually, the model is found to reproduce the scaling behaviours of spin-flavor symmetry in the heavy-quark limit.
We review the experimental measurements and theoretical descriptions of leptonic and semileptonic decays of particles containing a single heavy quark, either charm or bottom. Measurements of bottom semileptonic decays are used to determine the magnitudes of two fundamental parameters of the standard model, the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements $V_{cb}$ and $V_{ub}$. These parameters are connected with the physics of quark flavor and mass, and they have important implications for the breakdown of CP symmetry. To extract precise values of $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ from measurements, howe…
In lattice QCD, obtaining properties of heavy-light mesons has been easier said than done. Focusing on the $B$ meson's decay constant, it is argued that towards the end of 1997 the last obstacles were removed, at least in the quenched approximation. These developments, which resulted from a fuller understanding and implementation of ideas in effective field theory, bode well for current studies of neutral meson mixing and of semileptonic decays.
We consider the axial-vector mesons $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ as a mixture of two $|^3P_1\rangle$ and $|^1P_1\rangle$ states with the mixing angle $θ$ that equal to $(-34\pm 13)^\circ$. We calculate the light-front distribution amplitudes (LFDAs) and decay constant formulas for both the axial-vector mesons $K_1$ in the AdS/QCD correspondence. The transition form factors of the semileptonic $B\to K_1$ decays are derived in terms of the LFDAs for $K_1$ mesons. Using these form factors and decay constant values, the differential branching ratios of $B\to K_1 (1270, 1400) \ell^+ \ell^-$,~$\ell=μ…
We present a global analysis of leptonic and semileptonic kaon decay data, including all recent results published by the BNL-E865, KLOE, KTeV, ISTRA+ and NA48 experiments. This analysis, in conjunction with precise lattice calculations of the hadronic matrix elements now available, leads to a very precise determination of |Vus| and allows us to perform several stringent tests of the Standard Model.
Decays of $B$ mesons with leptons in the final state offer an interesting laboratory to search for possible effects of physics from beyond the Standard Model. In view of puzzling patterns in experimental data, the violation of lepton flavour universality is an interesting option. We present a strategy, utilising ratios of leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays, where the elements $|V_{ub}|$ and $|V_{cb}|$ of the Cabibbo--Kobayashi--Maskawa (CKM) matrix cancel, to constrain the short-distance coefficients of (pseudo)-scalar, vector and tensor operator contributions. The individual branching ratio…
We perform an analysis of two-body non leptonic decays of $B$ and $B_s$ mesons in the factorization approximation. We make use of the semileptonic decay amplitudes previously calculated on the basis of an effective lagrangian satisfying chiral and heavy quark symmetries and including spin 1 resonances. Exclusive semileptonic $D$-decay data are used as experimental input. Our results compare favorably with data, whenever they are available and indicate a positive value for the ratio of non leptonic coefficients $a_2/a_1$, similarly to previous studies.
I describe CLEO-c purely leptonic decay results leading to fD+=(222.6 +/- 16.7^{+2.8}_{-3.4}) MeV, fDs+=(280.1 +/- 11.6 +/- 6.0) MeV, and fDs+/fD+=1.26 +/- 0.11 +/-0.03. Form-factor measurements in Cabibbo favored and suppressed pseudoscalar decays are presented. Some comparisons are made with theoretical predictions.
We study the semileptonic transitions B_c to η_c, J/ψ, D, D^*, B, B^*, B_s, B_s^* in the framework of a relativistic constituent quark model. We use experimental data on leptonic J/ψdecay, lattice and QCD sum rule results on leptonic B_c decay, and on radiative η_c transitions to adjust the quark model parameters. We compute all form factors of the above semileptonic B_c-transitions and give predictions for various semileptonic B_c decay modes including their τ-modes when they are kinematically accessible. The implications of heavy quark symmetry for the semileptonic decays are discussed and a…
Recent measurements of exclusive $B^{-} \to τ^{-}\,ν$ and $B^0 \to π^{+}\,l^{-}\,\barν_l$ decays via the $b \to u\,l\,ν$ transition process differ from the standard model expectation and, if they persist in future $B$ experiments, will be a definite hint of the physics beyond the standard model. Similar hints of new physics have been observed in $b \to c$ semileptonic transition processes as well. BABAR measures the ratio of branching fractions of $B \to (D,\,D^{\ast})\,τ\,ν$ to the corresponding $B \to (D,\,D^{\ast})\,lν$, where $l$ represents either an electron or a muon, and finds $3.4σ$ di…
The recent significant progress on both the experimental and theoretical sides on the study of leptonic and semileptonic kaon decays allows to precisely test the Standard Model. Here we present results for the determination of Vus from experimental data, the comparison between the values of Vus obtained from data on semileptonic and leptonic kaon decays, and tests of lepton universality in semileptonic kaon decays.
Latest measurement of the ratio of branching ratios $R_D = \mathcal B(B \to D\,τ\,ν)/\mathcal B(B \to D\,l\,ν)$ and $R_{D^{\ast}} = \mathcal B(B \to D^{\ast}\,τ\,ν)/\mathcal B(B \to D^{\ast}\,l\,ν)$, where $l$ is either an electron or muon, differs from the standard model expectation by $1.9σ$ and $3.3σ$, respectively. Similar tension has been observed in purely leptonic $B \to τν$ decays as well. In this context, we consider the most general effective Lagrangian in the presence of new physics and perform a model independent analysis to explore various new physics couplings. Motivated by the r…
We consider leptonic $B^-\to \ell^- \barν_\ell$ and semileptonic $\bar B \to π\ell^- \barν_\ell$, $\bar B \to ρ\ell^- \barν_\ell$ decays and present a strategy to determine short-distance coefficients of New-Physics operators and the CKM element $|V_{ub}|$. As the leptonic channels play a central role, we illustrate this method for (pseudo)-scalar operators which may lift the helicity suppression of the corresponding transition amplitudes arising in the Standard Model. Utilising a new result by the Belle collaboration for the branching ratio of $B^-\to μ^- \barν_μ$, we explore theoretically cl…
We study exclusive non-leptonic two-body $B_c\to(D_{(s)},η_c,B_{(s)})+F$ decays with $F$(pseudoscalar or vector meson) being factored out in QCD factorization approach. The non-leptonic decay amplitudes are related to the product of meson decay constants and the form factors for semileptonic $B_c$ decays. As inputs in obtaining the branching ratios for a large set of non-leptonic $B_c$ decays, we use the weak form factors for the semileptonic $B_c\to(D_{(s)},η_c,B_{(s)})$ decays in the whole kinematical region and the unmeasured meson decay constants obtained from our previous light-front quar…
A brief review of the theoretical description of exclusive and inclusive semileptonic charm decays is given. In light of the recent experimental puzzles in leptonic charm decays, the complementary role of semileptonic modes is emphasized. The relevance of semileptonic charm decay studies to the precise determination of the Vub CKM matrix element from semileptonic B decays is also discussed. Some interesting and important theoretical challenges are mentioned.
Recent measurements of the branching fraction for D_s -> l nu disagree with the Standard Model expectation, which relies on calculations of $f_{D_s}$ from lattice QCD. This paper uses recent preliminary measurements from CLEO and a new preliminary lattice-QCD result from this conference to update the significance of the discrepancy. The "f_{D_s} puzzle" stands now at 3.5sigma, with sigma predominantly from the statistical uncertainty of the experiments. New physics scenarios that could solve the puzzle would also lead to non-Standard amplitudes mediating the semileptonic decays D -> K l nu. Th…
$Ω_b \rightarrow Ω_c^{(*)}$ semi-leptonic decays are studied in details. Relevant helicity amplitudes are written down. Both unpolarized and polarized $Ω_b$ cases are considered. Decay angular distributions, asymmetry parameters and semileptonic decay rates are calculated, with numerical results using leading order results of the large $N_c$ and heavy quark effective theory(HQET).
In this work we study the semi-leptonic decay of $\bar{B}_s^0\to ϕl^+ l^-$($l=e, μ, τ$) with QCD sum rule method. We calculate the $\bar{B}_s^0\to ϕ$ translation form factors relevant to this semi-leptonic decay, then the branching ratios of $\bar{B}_s^0\to ϕl^+ l^-$($l=e, μ, τ$) decays are calculated with the form factors obtained here. Our result for the branching ratio of $\bar{B}_s^0\to ϕμ^+ μ^-$ agrees very well with the recent experimental data. For the unmeasured decay modes such as $\bar{B}_s^0\to ϕe^+ e^-$ and $\bar{B}_s^0\to ϕτ^+ τ^-$, we give theoretical predictions.
I briefly describe recent developments in the theoretical analysis of non leptonic and semileptonic B decays. For non leptonic transitions, I focus on factorization, from the naive formulation to the most recent achievements. As for semileptonic decays, I mainly consider B transitions to excited charmed states.
Observing charge-parity (CP) or time-reversal (T) violations in the leptonic sector will give useful information to elucidate the nature of neutrinos. CP-violating couplings in charged leptonic currents carry out the weak phases necessary to break these symmetries. Here we study the interference of $W^{\pm}$ and $H^{\pm}$ bosons mediated amplitudes as the origin of possible CP and T violation in semileptonic decays of $K^{\pm}$ mesons and $τ^{\pm}$ leptons. We use the experimental bound on the T-odd transverse polarization asymmetry in $K^+_{μ3}$ decays to predict an upper limit on the CP viol…
We compute the O(α_s^2) corrections to the differential rate of the semileptonic decay b -> clv at the "intermediate recoil" point, where the c-quark mass and the invariant mass of the leptons are equal. The calculation is based on an expansion around two opposite limits of the quark masses m_{b,c}: m_c ~ m_b and m_c << m_b. The former case was previously studied; we correct and extend that result. The latter case is new. The smooth matching of both expansions provides a check of both. We clarify the discrepancy between the recent determinations of the full NNLO QCD correction to the semilepto…
Top partner searches are one of the key aspects of new physics analyses at the LHC. We correct an earlier statement that supersymmetric top searches based on decays to semileptonic tops are not promising. Reconstructing the direction of the boosted leptonic top quark and correlating it with the measured missing transverse energy vector allows us to reduce the top pair background to an easily manageable level. In addition, reconstructing the full momentum of the leptonic top quark determines the stop mass based on an M_{T2} endpoint.
The form factors parameterizing the B_c semileptonic matrix elements can be related to a few invariant functions if the decoupling of the spin of the heavy quarks in B_c and in the mesons produced in the semileptonic decays is exploited. We compute the form factors as overlap integral of the meson wave-functions obtained using a QCD relativistic potential model, and give predictions for semileptonic and non-leptonic B_c decay modes. We also discuss possible experimental tests of the heavy quark spin symmetry in B_c decays.
We consider the leptonic and semileptonic (SL) lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays of the charged leptons in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The formalism for evaluation of branching fractions for the SL LFV charged-lepton decays with one or two pseudoscalar mesons, or one vector meson in the final state, is given. Previous amplitudes for the SL LFV charged-lepton decays in MSSM are improved, for instance the $γ$-penguin amplitude is corrected to assure the gauge invariance. The decays are studied not only in the model-independent formulation of the theory in the frame of M…
The most recent measurements of the observables $R_{D^{(*)}}$ are in tension with the Standard Model offering hints of New Physics in $b\rightarrow c \ell \barν_{\ell}$ transitions. Motivated by these results, in this work we present an analysis on their $b\rightarrow u \ell \barν_{\ell}$ counterparts (for $\ell=e, ~μ, ~τ$). Our study has three main objectives. Firstly, using ratios of branching fractions, we assess the effects of beyond the Standard Model scalar and pseudoscalar particles in leptonic and semileptonic $B$ decays ($B^-\rightarrow \ell^- \barν_{\ell}$, $\bar{B}\rightarrow π\ell …
In this paper, the semileptonic decays of heavy mesons are treated fully relativistically. By means of an effective vertex, the effect of Fermi momentum are included both at the inclusive and at the exclusive levels, and the spin of both parent and daughter particles are taken into account. The differential decay rates with respect to the lepton energy and momentum transfer are compared with data from ARGUS and CLEO.
We analyze the CP violation in the semileptonic | ΔS|=1 tau-decays in supersymmetric extensions of the standard model (SM) with R parity violating term. We show that the CP asymmetry of tau-decay is enhanced significantly and the current experimental limits obtained by CLEO collaborations can be easily accommodated. We argue that observing CP violation in semi leptonic tau-decay would be a clear evidence for R-parity violating SUSY extension of the SM.
We present a QCD-based calculation of the exclusive semileptonic decay Lambda_b -> p l nu-bar. Using the ideas of Heavy Quark Effective Theory, we discuss the factorization of the amplitude. Further, resummed Sudakov effects are put in to ensure a consistent perturbative expansion.
We evaluate the decay constants for the B and $D$ mesons and the form factors for the semileptonic decays of the B meson to $D$ and $D^*$ mesons in a Bethe-Salpeter model. From data we extract $V_{cb}=0.039 \pm 0.002$ from ${\bar B} \to D^* l {\barν} $ and $V_{cb}=0.037 \pm 0.004$ from ${\bar B} \to D l {\barν} $ decays. The form factors are then used to obtain non-leptonic decay partial widths for $ B\to D π(K) $ and $B \to D D (D_s) $ in the factorization approximation.
We perform a complete "Michel parameter" analysis of all possible helicity structures which can appear in the process $B \to X_c \ell \barν_\ell$. We take into account the full set of operators parametrizing the effective Hamiltonian and include the complete one-loop QCD corrections as well as the non-perturbative contributions. The moments of the leptonic energy as well as the combined moments of the hadronic energy and hadronic invariant mass are calculated including the non-standard contributions.
In this paper we study the semileptonic decays of $B^\ast$, $B_s^\ast$, and $B_c^\ast$ by using the Bethe-Salpeter method with instantaneous approximation. Both the $V\to Pl^-\barν_l$ and $V\to Vl^-\barν_l$ cases are considered. The largest partial width of these channels is of the order of $10^{-14}$ GeV. The branching ratios of these semileptonic decays are also estimated by using the partial width of the one photon decay channel to approximate the total width. For $B^{\ast-}\to D^{(\ast)0}e^-\barν_e$ and $B_s^{\ast0}\to D_s^{(\ast)+}e^-\barν_e$, the branching ratios are of the order of $10^…
The form factors for the weak currents between B and light mesons are studied by relating them to the corresponding D form factors at q^2_{max} according to HQET, by evaluating them at q^2=0 by QCD sum rules, and by assuming a polar q^2 dependence. The results found are consistent with the information obtained from exclusive non-leptonic two-body decays and, with the only exception of A_1, with lattice calculations.
A calculation of the semi--leptonic decays of the kaon ($K_{l3}$) is presented. The results are direct predictions of a covariant model of the pion and kaon introduced earlier by Ito, Buck, Gross. The weak form factors for $K_{l3}$ are predicted with absolutely no parameter adjustments of the model. We obtained for the form factor parameters: $f_-(q^2=m_l^2)/f_+(q^2=m_l^2)=-0.28$ and $λ_+$= 0.028, both within experimental error bars. Connections of this approach to heavy quark symmetry will also be discussed.
We have carried out phenomenological implication of R-parity violating ($\NEG% {R}_{p}$) Minimal Supersymmetric Model (MSSM) via analyses of pure leptonic($% M\rightarrow ν\barν$) and semileptonic decays of pseudo-scalar mesons(% $M\rightarrow Xν\barν$). These analyses involve prediction of branching fraction of pure leptonic decays by using experimental limits/bounds derived from the study of semileptonic decays on $\NEG{R}_{p}$ parameters. We have found, in general that $\NEG{R}_{p}$ contribution dominates over the SM contribution i.e., by a factor of $10^{2}$ for the semleptonic decays of $…
The Higgs boson decay into a pair of real or virtual W bosons, with one of them decaying leptonically, is predicted within the Standard Model to have the largest branching fraction of all Higgs decays that involve an isolated electron or muon, for M_h > 120 GeV. We compute analytically the fully-differential width for this h -> l νjj decay at tree level, and then explore some multi-dimensional cuts that preserve the region of large signal. Future searches for semileptonic decays at the Tevatron and LHC, employing fully-differential information as outlined here, may be essential for ruling out …
In a recent paper, eight semileptonic parameters were defined to specify the most general Lorentz-invariant spin correlation functions for tau semileptonic decays. The parameters were physically defined in terms of tau-decay partial-width intensities for polarized final states. This paper studies how these parameters can be simply measured at a tau/charm factory with longitudinally polarized beams without using spin-correlation techniques. Thereby the parameters can also be used to bound the effective-mass scales $ Λ$ for ``new physics" such as arising from lepton compositeness, leptonic CP vi…
