Using the quark eigenmodes computed on the lattice with the overlap-Dirac operator, we investigate the spatial distribution of the chiral condensate around static color sources corresponding to quark-antiquark and three-quark systems. A flux structure of chromo fields appears in the presence of such color charges. The magnitude of the chiral condensate is reduced inside the color flux, which implies partial restoration of chiral symmetry inside hadrons. Taking a static baryon source in a periodic box as a toy model of nuclear matter, we estimate the magnitude of the chiral symmetry restoration as a function of baryon matter density.
Using the overlap-Dirac eigenmodes, we study the spatial distribution of the chiral condensate around static color sources in lattice QCD. Between the color sources, there appears a color-flux tube, which leads a linear confining potential. By measuring a local value of the chiral condensate, we show that the magnitude of the condensate is reduced inside the flux-tube for both quark-antiquark and three-quark systems. These results suggest that chiral symmetry is partially restored in the flux-tube. The reduction of the condensate is estimated to be about 20 $\sim$ 30% at the center of the flux…
We investigate the temperature and density dependence of the color flux tube structure of dense two-color QCD with $N_f = 2$ Wilson fermions by using a lattice simulation. From Refs. [1] and [2], we have already clarified the rich phase structure in the low temperature region, including the hadronic and superfluid phases. In this study we measure the quark-antiquark potential and color flux tube profiles in such a low temperature region and find that even in the high density superfluid phase, the color electric field is squeezed into a flux tube as in the low density hadronic phase.
The quantum fluctuations of the flux tube joining two static sources in the confining phase of a lattice gauge theory are described by an effective string theory. The predictions of the latter for ratios of Wilson loops of equal perimeter do not contain any free parameters, and can be computed exactly for large Wilson loops. We compare these predictions with numerical results in 3D $Z_2$ gauge theory, finding complete agreement.
The interior of the color flux tube joining a quark pair can be probed by evaluating the correlator of pair of Polyakov loops in a vacuum modified by another Polyakov pair, in order to check the dual superconductivity conjecture which predicts a deconfined, hot core. We also point out that at the critical point of any 3D gauge theories with a continuous deconfining transition the Svetitsky-Yaffe conjecture provides us with an analytic expression of the Polyakov correlator as a function of the position of the probe inside the flux tube. Both these predictions are compared with numerical results…
By using the overlap-Dirac operator eigenmodes, we investigate spatial distribution of the chiral condensate around static color sources for both quark-antiquark and three quark systems. In the presence of color sources, a characteristic flux-tube structure appears among them, suggesting a linear confining potential. We show that the magnitude of the condensate is reduced inside the color flux, which indicates the partial restoration of chiral symmetry inside the "hadrons." Considering a periodic box containing a static baryon source, which mimics the "nuclear matter," we estimate the chiral s…
We report on the chromoelectric and chromomagnetic fields generated by a static quark-antiquark pair at zero temperature in pure gauge SU(3). From the spatial structure of chromoelectric field we extract its nonperturbative part and discuss its properties.
In preparation of lattice studies of the two-color QCD phase diagram we study chiral restoration and deconfinement at finite temperature with two flavors of staggered quarks using an RHMC algorithm on GPUs. We first study unquenching effects in local Polyakov loop distributions, and the Polyakov loop potential obtained via Legendre transformation, in a fixed-scale approach for heavier quarks. We also present the chiral condensate and the corresponding susceptibility over the lattice coupling across the chiral transition for lighter quarks. Using Ferrenberg-Swendsen reweighting we extract the m…
It is argued that the adjoint torelon loop, i.e. a Polyakov loop in the adjoint representation running in a spatial, rather than temporal, direction, is an observable which is sensitive to the presence of long color electric flux tubes at high temperatures. We show via lattice Monte Carlo simulations that this observable has a sharp peak at the deconfinement transition, remains much larger than the vacuum value for some range of $T>T_c$, and falls below the vacuum value for $T > 2T_c$. This result suggests that long electric flux tubes may persist for a finite range of temperatures past the de…
Colorelectric and Colormagnetic structure of the flux tubes, connecting heavy quark and antiquark, is investigated in the framework of the Field Correlator method which describes all resulting fields in terms of correlators $D^E$ and $D^E_1$. The latter have been computed via gluelumps, which allows to predict the resulting distribution of color fields $\mathbf{E} (\mathbf{r}),$ and colormagnetic currents $\mathbf{k} (\mathbf{r})$ in the flux tubes. It is shown, that at large distances $r\gg λ\approx 0.2$ fm the whole structure of fields and relations between them is similar to that of the dua…
Using lattice Monte Carlo simulations of SU(3) pure gauge theory, we determine the spatial distribution of all components of the color fields created by a static quark and antiquark. We identify the components of the measured chromoelectric field transverse to the line connecting the quark-antiquark pair with the transverse components of an effective Coulomb-like field $\vec{E}^C $ associated with the quark sources. Subtracting $\vec{E}^C$ from the total simulated chromoelectric field $\vec{E}$ yields a non-perturbative, primarily longitudinal chromoelectric field $\vec{E}^{NP}$, which we iden…
We study the abelian color flux of two- and three-quark systems in the maximally abelian gauge in lattice QCD with dynamical fermions. We find that the abelian flux tube formed between quark and antiquark is very much the same as in quenched QCD up to quark separations of $R$$\sim$ 2fm. The profile of the color electric field in three-quark system suggests $Y$ ansatz, which might be interpreted as the result of the vacuum pressure in the confined phase. In order to clarify the flux structure, we investigate the color electric field of the three-quark system splittting the abelian gauge field i…
In this work we perform an investigation of the flux tube between two static color sources in four dimensional $SU(3)$ Yang-Mills theory, using the so called connected correlator. Contrary to most previous studies we do not use any smoothing algorithm to facilitate the evaluation of the correlator, that is performed using only stochastically exact techniques. We first examine the renormalization properties of the connected operator, then we present our numerical data for the longitudinal chromoelectric component of the flux tube, that are used to extract the dual superconductivity parameters.
In Coulomb gauge a longitudinal electric field is generated instantaneously with the creation of a static quark-antiquark pair. The field due to the quarks is a sum of two contributions, one from the quark and one from the antiquark, and there is no obvious reason that this sum should fall off exponentially with distance from the sources. We show here, however, from numerical simulations in pure SU(2) lattice gauge theory, that the color Coulomb electric field does in fact fall off exponentially with transverse distance away from a line joining static quark-antiquark sources, indicating the ex…
We consider the $SU(2)$ gauge theory with $N_f=2$ flavors of Dirac fundamental fermions. We study the high-temperature behavior of the spectra of mesons, discretizing the theory on anisotropic lattices, and measuring the two-point correlation functions in the temporal direction as well as screening masses in various channels. We identify the (pseudo-)critical temperature as the temperature at which the susceptibility associated with the Polyakov loop has a maximum. At high temperature both the spin-1 and spin-0 sectors of the light meson spectra exhibit enhanced symmetry properties, indicating…
We study the flux tube profile in the baryonic system in full QCD at finite temperature on $N_{t}=8$ lattice. We fix the maximally Abelian gauge and measure the monopole and the photon parts of the Abelian action density, the color electric field and the monopole current on both sides of the finite temperature transition. We demonstrate the disappearance of the flux tube in the high temperature phase.
The color flux tube connecting a static quark-anti-quark pair in Yang-Mills theory supports massless transverse fluctuations, which are the Goldstone bosons of spontaneously broken translation invariance. Just as in chiral perturbation theory, the dynamics of these Goldstone bosons is described by a systematic low-energy effective field theory. We use the effective theory to calculate the width of the fluctuating string at the 2-loop level, using both cylindrical and toroidal boundary conditions. At zero temperature, the string width diverges logarithmically with the quark-anti-quark distance …
Axial charge production at the early stage of heavy-ion collisions is investigated within the framework of real-time lattice simulations at leading order in QCD coupling. Starting from color glass condensate initial conditions, the time evolution of quantum quark fields under classical color gauge fields is computed on a lattice in longitudinally expanding geometry. We consider simple color charge distributions in Lorentz contracted nuclei that realize flux tube-like configurations of color fields carrying nonzero topological charge after a collision. By employing the Wilson fermion extended t…
In Coulomb gauge there is a longitudinal color electric field associated with a static quark-antiquark pair. We have measured the spatial distribution of this field, and find that it falls off exponentially with transverse distance from a line joining the two quarks. In other words there is a Coulomb flux tube, with a width that is somewhat smaller than that of the minimal energy flux tube associated with the asymptotic string tension. A confinement criterion for gauge theories with matter fields is also proposed.
All colored particles including dynamical quarks and gluons are confined if the color confinement criterion proposed by Kugo and Ojima is satisfied. The criterion was obtained under the gauge fixing of the Lorenz type. However, it was pointed out that the Kugo-Ojima criterion breaks down for the Maximal Abelian gauge, which is quite strange in view of the fact that quark confinement has been verified according to the dual superconductivity caused by magnetic monopole condensations. In order to make a bridge between color confinement due to Kugo and Ojima and the dual superconductor picture for…
We measure the spatial distribution of all components of the color fields surrounding a static quark antiquark pair in QCD with (2+1) HISQ flavors. We isolate the nonperturbative component of the longitudinal chromoelectric color field responsible for the linear term in the confining potential.
The quark-antiquark potential and the chromoelectric fields generated by ``quarks'' in the adjoint representation of SU(2) color are analyzed in the scaling region of the theory. New results with interesting implications for our understanding of the confinement mechanism are presented. In particular, the formation of color-electric flux-tubes between adjoint quarks is demonstrated in four-dimensional SU(2) color. The flux-tubes for fundamental and adjoint representation quarks are shown to have very similar cross-sections. This result could imply that the QCD vacuum is dual to a type I superco…
The color-electric flux tube of Abelian-projected (AP) SU(2) lattice gauge theory in the maximally Abelian gauge (MAG) is revisited. It is shown that the lattice Gribov copy effect in the MAG is crucial for the monopole-related parts of the flux-tube profiles. Taking into account both the gauge fixing procedure and the effect of finite quark-antiquark distance properly, the scaling property of the flux-tube profile is confirmed. The quantitative relation between the measured AP flux tube and the flux-tube solution of the U(1) dual Abelian Higgs (DAH) model is also discussed. The fitting of the…
We investigate the confining properties of the QCD vacuum with $N_f=2$ flavors of dynamical quarks, and compare the results with the properties of the quenched theory. We use non-perturbatively $\mathcal{O}(a)$ improved Wilson fermions to keep cut-off effects small. We focus on color magnetic monopoles. Among the quantities we study are the monopole density and the monopole screening length, the static potential and the profile of the color electric flux tube. We furthermore derive the low-energy effective monopole action. Marked differences between the quenched and dynamical vacuum are found.
We study the Z_N flux tubes and monopole confinement in deformed N=2* super Yang-Mills theories. In order to do that we consider an N=4 super Yang-Mills theory with an arbitrary gauge group G and add some N=2, N=1 and N=0 deformation terms. We analyze some possible vacuum solutions and phases of the theory, depending on the deformation terms which are added. In the Coulomb phase for the N=2* theory, G is broken to U(1)^r and the theory has monopole solutions. Then, by adding some deformation terms, the theory passes to the Higgs or color superconducting phase, in which G is broken to its cente…
In this work we compute the color fields in the mediator plane between a static quark and a static antiquark using quenched lattice QCD. In special, we see the effect of the quark-antiquark distance on the flux tube. To obtain this results an improved multihit technique is developed and an extend smearing technique is used. Then, we also discuss the flux-tubes in a system composed of two quarks and two antiquarks. The ground and first excited states fields are studied for different dispositions of the system.
We compute the quark-antiquark flux tube for pure gauge SU(3) in space-time 3 + 1 dimensions. To increase the signal over noise ratio, we apply the improved multihit and extended smearing techniques. We fit the field densities with an appropriate ansatz and we observe both the screening of the color fields and the quantum widening of the flux tube in the mediator plane and in the charge planes.
We consider the three dimensional SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with adjoint static color sources, studying by lattice simulations how the shape of the flux tube changes when increasing the distance between them. The disappearance of the flux tube at string breaking is quite abrupt, but precursors of this phenomenon are present already when the separation between the sources is smaller than its critical value, a fact that influences also some details of the static potential.
An attempt to adapt the study of color flux tubes to the case of finite temperature has been made. The field is measured both through the correlator of two Polyakov loops, one of which connected to a plaquette, and through a connected correlator of Wilson loop and plaquette in the spatial sublattice. Still the profile of the flux tube resembles the transverse field distribution around an isolated vortex in an ordinary superconductor. The temperature dependence of all the parameters characterizing the flux tube is investigated.
Hadronic flux-tube solutions describing the mesonic and the baryonic states within the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory are investigated by using the dual lattice formulation in the Weyl-symmetric approach. The shape of the flux tubes is determined by placement of the color-electric Dirac-string singularity treated as a connected stack of quantized plaquettes in the dual lattice formulation. The Weyl symmetric profiles of the hadronic flux tubes are obtained by using the manifestly Weyl invariant representation of the dual gauge field.
The transverse profile of the chromoelectric field generated by a quark-antiquark pair in the SU(3) vacuum is analysed within the dual superconductor scenario, then the London penetration depth and coherence length are extracted. The color field is determined on the lattice through a connected correlator of two Polyakov loops measured on smeared configurations.
