We consider the three dimensional SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with adjoint static color sources, studying by lattice simulations how the shape of the flux tube changes when increasing the distance between them. The disappearance of the flux tube at string breaking is quite abrupt, but precursors of this phenomenon are present already when the separation between the sources is smaller than its critical value, a fact that influences also some details of the static potential.
In this work we perform an investigation of the flux tube between two static color sources in four dimensional $SU(3)$ Yang-Mills theory, using the so called connected correlator. Contrary to most previous studies we do not use any smoothing algorithm to facilitate the evaluation of the correlator, that is performed using only stochastically exact techniques. We first examine the renormalization properties of the connected operator, then we present our numerical data for the longitudinal chromoelectric component of the flux tube, that are used to extract the dual superconductivity parameters.
We report about an ongoing lattice field theory project concerned with the investigation of heavy hybrid mesons. In particular we discuss our computation of the structure of hybrid static potential flux tubes in SU(2) lattice Yang-Mills theory, which is based on the squares of the chromoelectric and chromomagnetic field strength components. Our flux tube results for hybrid static potential quantum numbers $Σ_g^-$, $Σ_u^+$, $Σ_u^-$, $Π_g$, $Π_u$, $Δ_g$, $Δ_u$ are significantly different compared to the flux tube of the ordinary static potential.
We study the structure of the hybrid static potential flux tube in the $Π_u$ sector in SU(2) lattice Yang-Mills theory. To this end, we compute the squares of the chromoelectric and chromomagnetic field strengths in the presence of a static quark-antiquark pair. We show clear evidence that the gluon distribution is significantly different compared to that of the ordinary static potential with quantum numbers $Σ_g^+$.
We study the Z_N flux tubes and monopole confinement in deformed N=2* super Yang-Mills theories. In order to do that we consider an N=4 super Yang-Mills theory with an arbitrary gauge group G and add some N=2, N=1 and N=0 deformation terms. We analyze some possible vacuum solutions and phases of the theory, depending on the deformation terms which are added. In the Coulomb phase for the N=2* theory, G is broken to U(1)^r and the theory has monopole solutions. Then, by adding some deformation terms, the theory passes to the Higgs or color superconducting phase, in which G is broken to its cente…
We argue that in the Copenhagen (``spaghetti'') picture of the QCD vacuum the chromomagnetic flux tubes exhibit chromoelectric superconductivity. We show that the superconducting chromoelectric currents in the tubes may be induced by the topological charge density.
For the four-dimensional SU(N) Euclidean Yang-Mills theory in the Landau gauge, we present two sets of gauge field configurations that satisfy the Euclidean equations of motion. These configurations generate four-dimensional chromo-field flux sheets whose spatial cross sections are three-dimensional chromo-field flux tubes. In lattice simulations, they may be detected as center vortices. The first set of gauge field configurations generates chromo-electric flux tubes that should contribute to a chromo-electric flux tube between two static color charges. The string tension for two static color …
We present here results on the fine structure of the static q\bar q potential in d=4 SU(3) Yang-Mills theory. The potential is obtained from Polyakov loop correlators having separations between 0.3 and 1.2 fermi. Measurements were carried out on lattices of spatial extents of about 4 and 5.4 fermi. The temporal extent was 5.4 fermi in both cases. The results are analyzed in terms of the force between a q\bar q pair as well as in terms of a scaled second derivative of the potential. The data is accurate enough to distinguish between different effective string models and it seems to favour the e…
In this series of three papers, we generalize the derivation of dual photons and monopoles by Polyakov, and Banks, Myerson and Kogut, to obtain approximative models of SU(2) lattice gauge theory. The papers take three different representations as their starting points: the representation as a BF Yang-Mills theory, the spin foam representation and the plaquette representation. The derivations are based on stationary phase approximations. In this first article, we cast 3- and 4-dimensional SU(2) lattice gauge theory in the form of a lattice BF Yang-Mills theory. In several steps, the expectation…
We derive lattice actions for Yang-Mills quantum mechanics for models with $\cQ=4, 8$ and 16 supercharges which possess an exact supersymmetry at non-zero lattice spacing. These are obtained by dimensional reduction of twisted versions of the corresponding super Yang-Mills theories in $D=2, 3$ and 4 dimensions.
We perform $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills lattice simulation of the electric field distribution in the Coulomb gauge for different values of $β$ to further investigate the nature of the Coulomb flux tube.
We investigate the overlap of the ground state meson potential with sets of mesonic-trial wave functions corresponding to different gluonic distributions. We probe the transverse structure of the flux tube through the creation of non-uniform smearing profiles for the string of glue connecting two color sources in Wilson loop operator. The non-uniformly UV-regulated flux-tube operators are found to optimize the overlap with the ground state and display interesting features in the ground state overlap.
The topological susceptibility is calculated within the Hamiltonian approach to Yang-Mills theory in Coulomb gauge, using the vacuum wave functional previously determined by a variational solution of the Yang-Mills Schroedinger equation. The numerical result agrees qualitatively with the predictions of lattice simulations.
An explicit canonical transformation is constructed to relate the physical subspace of Yang-Mills theory to the phase space of the ADM variables of general relativity. This maps 3+1 dimensional Yang-Mills theory to local evolution of metrics on 3 manifolds.
The solution of symmetry equation of Yang-Mills self dual system is found in explicit form of its raising Hamiltonian operator. Thus explicit form of equations of self dual Yang Mills hierarchy is constructed.
We report about our ongoing computation of running coupling constants in asymptotically free theories using the recursive finite size scaling technique. The latest results for the SU(3) Yang-Mills theory are presented.

We calculate the topological susceptibility of the Yang-Mills vacuum using the field correlator method. Our estimate for the SU(3) gauge group, χ^{1/4} = 196(7) MeV, is in a very good agreement with the results of recent numerical simulations of the Yang-Mills theory on the lattice.
We study the stress-tensor distribution around the flux tube in static quark and anti-quark systems based on the momentum conservation and the Abelian-Higgs (AH) model. We first investigate constraints on the stress-tensor distribution from the momentum conservation and show that the effect of boundaries plays a crucial role to describe the structure of the flux tube in SU(3) Yang-Mills theory which has measured recently on the lattice. We then study the distributions of the stress tensor and energy density around the magnetic vortex with and without boundaries in the AH model, and compare the…
