We show that the semiclassical approach to chaotic quantum transport in the presence of time-reversal symmetry can be described by a matrix model, i.e. a matrix integral whose perturbative expansion satisfies the semiclassical diagrammatic rules for the calculation of transport statistics. This approach leads very naturally to the semiclassical derivation of universal predictions from random matrix theory.
We consider the problem of a semiclassical description of quantum chaotic transport, when a tunnel barrier is present in one of the leads. Using a semiclassical approach formulated in terms of a matrix model, we obtain transport moments as power series in the reflection probability of the barrier, whose coefficients are rational functions of the number of open channels M. Our results are therefore valid in the quantum regime and not only when $M\gg 1$. The expressions we arrive at are not identical with the corresponding predictions from random matrix theory, but are in fact much simpler. Both…
We propose a matrix model which embodies the semiclassical approach to the problem of quantum transport in chaotic systems. Specifically, a matrix integral is presented whose perturbative expansion satisfies precisely the semiclassical diagrammatic rules for the calculation of general counting statistics. Evaluating it exactly, we show that it agrees with corresponding predictions from random matrix theory. This uncovers the algebraic structure behind the equivalence between these two approaches, and opens the way for further semiclassical calculations.
We present a semiclassical approach to n-point spectral correlation functions of quantum systems whose classical dynamics is chaotic, for arbitrary n. The basic ingredients are sets of periodic orbits that have nearly the same action and therefore provide constructive interference. We calculate explicitly the first correlation functions, to leading orders in their energy arguments, for both unitary and orthogonal symmetry classes. The results agree with corresponding predictions from random matrix theory, thereby giving solid support to the conjecture of universality.
We consider $S$-matrix correlation functions for a chaotic cavity having $M$ open channels, in the absence of time-reversal invariance. Relying on a semiclassical approximation, we compute the average over $E$ of the quantities ${\rm Tr}[S^†(E-ε)S(E+ε)]^n$, for general positive integer $n$. Our result is an infinite series in $ε$, whose coefficients are rational functions of $M$. From this we extract moments of the time delay matrix $Q=-i\hbar S^†dS/dE$, and check that the first 8 of them agree with the random matrix theory prediction from our previous paper.
We calculate the Landauer conductance through chaotic ballistic devices in the semiclassical limit, to all orders in the inverse number of scattering channels without and with a magnetic field. Families of pairs of entrance-to-exit trajectories contribute, similarly to the pairs of periodic orbits making up the small-time expansion of the spectral form factor of chaotic dynamics. As a clue to the exact result we find that close self-encounters slightly hinder the escape of trajectories into leads.
This paper is withdrawn. While almost all findings reported here remain valid, some of our comments on the fate of weak localization corrections to the conductance in the deep semiclassical limit are now obsolete. Contrarily to what was suggested here, we find an exponential suppression of weak localization at finite Ehrenfest time. For more details, see cond-mat/0512662 .
We consider quantum decay and photofragmentation processes in open chaotic systems in the semiclassical limit. We devise a semiclassical approach which allows us to consistently calculate quantum corrections to the classical decay to high order in an expansion in the inverse Heisenberg time. We present results for systems with and without time reversal symmetry and also for the symplectic case, as well as extending recent results to non-localized initial states. We further analyze related photodissociation and photoionization phenomena and semiclassically compute cross-section correlations, in…
We construct a trajectory-based semiclassical theory of shot noise in clean chaotic cavities. In the universal regime of vanishing Ehrenfest time $\tE$, we reproduce the random matrix theory result, and show that the Fano factor is exponentially suppressed as $\tE$ increases. We demonstrate how our theory preserves the unitarity of the scattering matrix even in the regime of finite $\tE$. We discuss the range of validity of our semiclassical approach and point out subtleties relevant to the recent semiclassical treatment of shot noise in the universal regime by Braun et al. [cond-mat/0511292].
We investigate the influence of spin-orbit interaction on ballistic transport through chaotic cavities by using semiclassical methods. Our approach is based on the Landauer formalism and the Fisher-Lee relations, appropriately generalized to spin-orbit interaction, and a semiclassical representation of Green functions. We calculate conductance coefficients by exploiting ergodicity and mixing of suitably combined classical spin-orbit dynamics, and making use of the Sieber-Richter method and its most recent extensions. That way we obtain weak anti-localization and confirm previous results obtain…
We describe a semiclassical method to calculate universal transport properties of chaotic cavities. While the energy-averaged conductance turns out governed by pairs of entrance-to-exit trajectories, the conductance variance, shot noise and other related quantities require trajectory quadruplets; simple diagrammatic rules allow to find the contributions of these pairs and quadruplets. Both pure symmetry classes and the crossover due to an external magnetic field are considered.
We address the decay in open chaotic quantum systems and calculate semiclassical corrections to the classical exponential decay. We confirm random matrix predictions and, going beyond, calculate Ehrenfest time effects. To support our results we perform extensive numerical simulations. Within our approach we show that certain (previously unnoticed) pairs of interfering, correlated classical trajectories are of vital importance. They also provide the dynamical mechanism for related phenomena such as photo-ionization and -dissociation, for which we compute cross section correlations. Moreover, th…
States supported by chaotic open quantum systems fall into two categories: a majority showing instantaneous ballistic decay, and a set of quantum resonances of classically vanishing support in phase space. We present a theory describing these structures within a unified semiclassical framework. Emphasis is put on the quantum diffraction mechanism which introduces an element of probability and is crucial for the formation of resonances. Our main result are boundary conditions on the semiclassical propagation along system trajectories. Depending on whether the trajectory propagation time is shor…
We show that in clean chaotic cavities the power of shot noise takes a universal form. Our predictions go beyond previous results from random-matrix theory, in covering the experimentally relevant case of few channels. Following a semiclassical approach we evaluate the contributions of quadruplets of classical trajectories to shot noise. Our approach can be extended to a variety of transport phenomena as illustrated for the crossover between symmetry classes in the presence of a weak magnetic field.
A phase-space semiclassical approximation valid to $O(\hbar)$ at short times is used to compare semiclassical accuracy for long-time and stationary observables in chaotic, stable, and mixed systems. Given the same level of semiclassical accuracy for the short time behavior, the squared semiclassical error in the chaotic system grows linearly in time, in contrast with quadratic growth in the classically stable system. In the chaotic system, the relative squared error at the Heisenberg time scales linearly with $\hbar_{\rm eff}$, allowing for unambiguous semiclassical determination of the eigenv…
Electronic transport through chaotic quantum dots exhibits universal, system independent, properties, consistent with random matrix theory. The quantum transport can also be rooted, via the semiclassical approximation, in sums over the classical scattering trajectories. Correlations between such trajectories can be organized diagrammatically and have been shown to yield universal answers for some observables. Here, we develop the general combinatorial treatment of the semiclassical diagrams, through a connection to factorizations of permutations. We show agreement between the semiclassical and…
The $M$-dimensional scattering matrix $S(E)$ which connects incoming to outgoing waves in a chaotic systyem is always unitary, but shows complicated dependence on the energy. This is partly encoded in correlators constructed from traces of powers of $S(E+ε)S^\dagger(E-ε)$, averaged over $E$, and by the statistical properties of the time delay operator, $Q(E)=-i\hbar S^\dagger dS/dE$. Using a semiclassical approach for systems with broken time reversal symmetry, we derive two kind of expressions for the energy correlators: one as a power series in $1/M$ whose coefficients are rational functions…
The two-point correlation function of chaotic systems with spin 1/2 is evaluated using periodic orbits. The spectral form factor for all times thus becomes accessible. Equivalence with the predictions of random matrix theory for the Gaussian symplectic ensemble is demonstrated. A duality between the underlying generating functions of the orthogonal and symplectic symmetry classes is semiclassically established.
We develop a perturbation theory for the lifetime and emission intensity for isolated resonances in asymmetric resonant cavities. The inverse lifetime $Γ$ and the emission intensity $I(θ)$ in the open system are expressed in terms of matrix elements of operators evaluated with eigenmodes of the closed resonator. These matrix elements are calculated in a semiclassical approximation which allows us to represent $Γ$ and $I(θ)$ as sums over the contributions of rays which escape the resonator by refraction.
The standard semiclassical calculation of transmission correlation functions for chaotic systems is severely influenced by unitarity problems. We show that unitarity alone imposes a set of relationships between cross sections correlation functions which go beyond the diagonal approximation. When these relationships are properly used to supplement the semiclassical scheme we obtain transmission correlation functions in full agreement with the exact statistical theory and the experiment. Our approach also provides a novel prediction for the transmission correlations in the case where time revers…
We derive a prediction of dynamical tunneling rates from regular to chaotic phase-space regions combining the direct regular-to-chaotic tunneling mechanism in the quantum regime with an improved resonance-assisted tunneling theory in the semiclassical regime. We give a qualitative recipe for identifying the relevance of nonlinear resonances in a given $\hbar$-regime. For systems with one or multiple dominant resonances we find excellent agreement to numerics.
A generic chaotic eigenfunction has a non-universal contribution consisting of scars of short periodic orbits. This contribution, which can not be explained in terms of random universal waves, survives the semiclassical limit (when $\hbar$ goes to zero). In this limit, the sum of scarred intensities is a simple function of $η\equiv \sqrt{π/2} (f-1) h^{-1}_T (\sum λ_i^2)^{1/2} $, with $f$ the degrees of freedom, $h_T$ the topological entropy and $\{λ_i\}$ the set of positive Lyapunov exponents. Moreover, the fluctuations of this representation go to zero as $1/|\ln \hbar|$. For this reasson, we…
The statistics of quantum transport through chaotic cavities with two leads is encoded in transport moments $M_m={\rm Tr}[(t^†t)^m]$, where $t$ is the transmission matrix, which have a known universal expression for systems without time-reversal symmetry. We present a semiclassical derivation of this universality, based on action correlations that exist between sets of long scattering trajectories. Our semiclassical formula for $M_m$ holds for all values of $m$ and arbitrary number of open channels. This is achieved by mapping the problem into two independent combinatorial problems, one involv…
The semiclassical structure of resonance states of classically chaotic scattering systems with partial escape is investigated. We introduce a local randomization on phase space for the baker map with escape, which separates the smallest multifractal scale from the scale of the Planck cell. This allows for deriving a semiclassical description of resonance states based on a local random vector model and conditional invariance. We numerically demonstrate that the resulting classical measures perfectly describe resonance states of all decay rates $γ$ for the randomized baker map. By decreasing the…
We address frequency-dependent quantum transport through mesoscopic conductors in the semiclassical limit. By generalizing the trajectory-based semiclassical theory of dc quantum transport to the ac case, we derive the average screened conductance as well as ac weak-localization corrections for chaotic conductors. Thereby we confirm respective random matrix results and generalize them by accounting for Ehrenfest time effects. We consider the case of a cavity connected through many leads to a macroscopic circuit which contains ac-sources. In addition to the reservoir the cavity itself is capaci…
We develop a semiclassical theory of Coulomb blockade peak heights in chaotic quantum dots. Using Berry's conjecture, we calculate the peak height distributions and the correlation functions. We demonstrate that the corrections to the corresponding results of the standard statistical theory are non-universal and can be expressed in terms of the classical periodic orbits of the dot that are well coupled to the leads. The main effect is an oscillatory dependence of the peak heights on any parameter which is varied; it is substantial for both symmetric and asymmetric lead placement. Surprisingly,…
We investigate the effect of dephasing/decoherence on quantum transport through open chaotic ballistic conductors in the semiclassical limit of small Fermi wavelength to system size ratio, $λ_F/L << 1$. We use the trajectory-based semiclassical theory to study a two-terminal chaotic dot with decoherence originating from: (i) an external closed quantum chaotic environment, (ii) a classical source of noise, (iii) a voltage probe, i.e. an additional current-conserving terminal. We focus on the pure dephasing regime, where the coupling to the external source of dephasing is so weak that it does no…
We study the quantum probability to survive in an open chaotic system in the framework of the van Vleck-Gutzwiller propagator and present the first such calculation that accounts for quantum interference effects. Specifically we calculate quantum deviations from the classical decay after the break time for both broken and preserved time-reversal symmetry. The source of these corrections is identified in interfering pairs of correlated classical trajectories. In our approach the quantized chaotic system is modelled by a quatum graph.
An initial coherent state is propagated exactly by a kicked quantum Hamiltonian and its associated classical stroboscopic map. The classical trajectories within the initial state are regular for low kicking strengths, then bifurcate and become mainly chaotic as the kicking parameter is increased. Time-evolution is tracked using classical, quantum and semiclassical Wigner functions, obtained via the Herman-Kluk propagator. Quantitative comparisons are also included and carried out from probability marginals and autocorrelation functions. Sub-Planckian classical structure such as small stability…
A semiclassical approximation for the matrix elements of a quantum chaotic propagator in the scar function basis has been derived. The obtained expression is solely expressed in terms of canonical invariant objects. For our purpose, we have used, the recently developed, semiclassical matrix elements of the propagator in coherent states, together with the linearization of the flux in the neighborhood of a classically unstable periodic orbit of chaotic two dimensional systems. The expression here derived is successfully verified to be exact for a (linear) cat map, after the theory is adapted to …
The out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC), recently analyzed in several physical contexts, is studied for low-dimensional chaotic systems through semiclassical expansions and numerical simulations. The semiclassical expansion for the OTOC yields a leading-order contribution in $\hbar^2$ that is exponentially increasing with time within an intermediate, temperature-dependent, time-window. The growth-rate in such a regime is governed by the Lyapunov exponent of the underlying classical system and scales with the square-root of the temperature.
We study the universal fluctuations of the Wigner-Smith time delay for systems which exhibit chaotic dynamics in their classical limit. We present a new derivation of the semiclassical relation of the quantum time delay to properties of the set of trapped periodic orbits in the repeller. As an application, we calculate the energy correlator in the crossover regime between preserved and fully broken time reversal symmetry. We discuss the range of validity of our results and compare them with the predictions of random matrix theories.
We present a semiclassical calculation of the generalized form factor which characterizes the fluctuations of matrix elements of the quantum operators in the eigenbasis of the Hamiltonian of a chaotic system. Our approach is based on some recently developed techniques for the spectral form factor of systems with hyperbolic and ergodic underlying classical dynamics and f=2 degrees of freedom, that allow us to go beyond the diagonal approximation. First we extend these techniques to systems with f>2. Then we use these results to calculate the generalized form factor. We show that the dependence …
The connection of a superconductor to a chaotic ballistic quantum dot leads to interesting phenomena, most notably the appearance of a hard gap in its excitation spectrum. Here we treat such an Andreev billiard semiclassically where the density of states is expressed in terms of the classical trajectories of electrons (and holes) that leave and return to the superconductor. We show how classical orbit correlations lead to the formation of the hard gap, as predicted by random matrix theory in the limit of negligible Ehrenfest time $\tE$, and how the influence of a finite $\tE$ causes the gap to…
We present the expanded boundary integral method for solving the planar Helmholtz problem, which combines the ideas of the boundary integral method and the scaling method and is applicable to arbitrary shapes. We apply the method to a chaotic billiard with unidirectional transport, where we demonstrate existence of doublets of chaotic eigenstates, which are quasi-degenerate due to time-reversal symmetry, and a very particular level spacing distribution that attains a chaotic Shnirelman peak at short energy ranges and exhibits GUE-like statistics for large energy ranges. We show that, as a cons…
Despite considerable progress during the last decades in devising a semiclassical theory for classically chaotic quantum systems a quantitative semiclassical understanding of their dynamics at late times (beyond the so-called Heisenberg time $T_H$) is still missing. This challenge, corresponding to resolving spectral structures on energy scales below the mean level spacing, is intimately related to the quest for semiclassically restoring quantum unitarity, which is reflected in real-valued spectral determinants. Guided through insights for quantum graphs we devise a periodic-orbit resummation …
We present a semiclassical approach to eigenfunction statistics in chaotic and weakly disordered quantum systems which goes beyond Random Matrix Theory, supersymmetry techniques, and existing semiclassical methods. The approach is based on a generalization of Berry's Random Wave Model, combined with a consistent semiclassical representation of spatial two-point correlations. We derive closed expressions for arbitrary wavefunction averages in terms of universal coefficients and sums over classical paths, which contain, besides the supersymmetry results, novel oscillatory contributions. Their ph…
We study the properties of the two-point spectral form factor for classically chaotic systems with spin 1/2 in the semiclassical limit, with a suitable semiclassical trace formula as our principal tool. To this end we introduce a regularized form factor and discuss the limit in which the so-called diagonal approximation can be recovered. The incorporation of the spin contribution to the trace formula requires an appropriate variant of the equidistribution principle of long periodic orbits as well as the notion of a skew product of the classical translational and spin dynamics. Provided this sk…
We consider the continuity equation for open chaotic quantum systems in the semiclassical limit. First we explicitly calculate a semiclassical expansion for the probability current density using an expression based on classical trajectories. The current density is related to the survival probability via the continuity equation, and we show that this relation is satisfied within the semiclassical approximation to all orders. For this we develop recursion relation arguments which connect the trajectory structures involved for the survival probability, which travel from one point in the bulk to a…
We derive a semiclassical expression for an energy smoothed autocorrelation function defined on a group of eigenstates of the Schrödinger equation. The system we considered is an energy-conserved Hamiltonian system possessing time-invariant symmetry. The energy smoothed autocorrelation function is expressed as a sum of three terms. The first one is analogous to Berry's conjecture, which is a Bessel function of the zeroth order. The second and the third terms are trace formulae made from special trajectories. The second term is found to be direction dependent in the case of spacing averaging, w…
The statistical properties of quantum transport through a chaotic cavity are encoded in the traces $\T={\rm Tr}(tt^†)^n$, where $t$ is the transmission matrix. Within the Random Matrix Theory approach, these traces are random variables whose probability distribution depends on the symmetries of the system. For the case of broken time-reversal symmetry, we present explicit closed expressions for the average value and for the variance of $\T$ for all $n$. In particular, this provides the charge cumulants $\Q$ of all orders. We also compute the moments $<g^n>$ of the conductance $g=\mathcal{T}_1$…
In the periodic orbit quantization of physical systems, usually only the leading-order hbar contribution to the density of states is considered. Therefore, by construction, the eigenvalues following from semiclassical trace formulae generally agree with the exact quantum ones only to lowest order of hbar. In different theoretical work the trace formulae have been extended to higher orders of hbar. The problem remains, however, how to actually calculate eigenvalues from the extended trace formulae since, even with hbar corrections included, the periodic orbit sums still do not converge in the p…
We present a new chaotic system of three coupled ordinary differential equations, limited to quadratic nonlinear terms. A wide variety of dynamical regimes are reported. For some parameters, chaotic reversals of the amplitudes are produced by crisis-induced intermittency, following a mechanism different from what is generally observed in similar deterministic models. Despite its simplicity, this system therefore generates a rich dynamics, able to model more complex physical systems. In particular, a comparison with reversals of the magnetic field of the Earth shows a surprisingly good agreemen…
A semiclassical approach to the calculation of transport moments $M_m={\rm Tr}[(t^†t)^m]$, where $t$ is the transmission matrix, was developed in [M. Novaes, Europhys. Lett. 98, 20006 (2012)] for chaotic cavities with two leads and broken time-reversal symmetry. The result is an expression for $M_m$ as a perturbation series in 1/N, where N is the total number of open channels, which is in agreement with random matrix theory predictions. The coefficients in this series were related to two open combinatorial problems. Here we expand on this work, including the solution to one of the combinatoria…
We consider the statistics of time delay in a chaotic cavity having $M$ open channels, in the absence of time-reversal invariance. In the random matrix theory approach, we compute the average value of polynomial functions of the time delay matrix $Q=-i\hbar S^†dS/dE$, where $S$ is the scattering matrix. Our results do not assume $M$ to be large. In a companion paper, we develop a semiclassical approximation to $S$-matrix correlation functions, from which the statistics of $Q$ can also be derived. Together, these papers contribute to establishing the conjectured equivalence between the random m…

Exploiting the time-reversal invariance and reciprocal properties of the lossless wave equation enables elegantly simple solutions to complex wave-scattering problems, and is embodied in the time-reversal mirror. A time-reversal mirror operates by recording the wave disturbance as a function of time at one or more points in a medium, broadcasting a time-reversed version of the signal(s) in the opposite direction, and allowing the waves to reverse-propagate back to their origin. Here we demonstrate the implementation of an electromagnetic time-reversal mirror in a wave chaotic system containing…
Using semiclassical methods, it is possible to construct very accurate approximations in the short wavelength limit of quantum dynamics that rely exclusively on classical dynamical input. For systems whose classical realization is strongly chaotic, there is an exceedingly short logarithmic Ehrenfest time scale, beyond which the quantum and classical dynamics of a system necessarily diverge, and yet the semiclassical construction remains valid far beyond that time. This fact leads to a paradox if one ponders the reversibility and predictability properties of quantum and classical mechanics. The…
Starting from a semiclassical approach recently developed for spectral correlation functions of quantum systems whose classical dynamics is chaotic, we focus on the case of broken time-reversal symmetry, the so-called unitary class. We obtain to all orders in perturbation theory the non-oscillatory parts of all correlation functions, showing that the off-diagonal contributions to these correlation functions cancel and the conjectured universailty holds. The innovation that allows this calculation to be performed is the introduction of an auxiliary matrix model which is governed by the same dia…
We study the resonance (or Gamow) eigenstates of open chaotic systems in the semiclassical limit, distinguishing between left and right eigenstates of the non-unitary quantum propagator, and also between short-lived and long-lived states. The long-lived left (right) eigenstates are shown to concentrate as $\hbar\to 0$ on the forward (backward) trapped set of the classical dynamics. The limit of a sequence of eigenstates $\{ψ(\hbar)\}_{\hbar\to 0}$ is found to exhibit a remarkably rich structure in phase space that depends on the corresponding limiting decay rate. These results are illustrated …
Comment on "Spatial Correlation in Quantum Chaotic Systems with Time-Reversal Symmetry: Theory and Experiment" by V. N. Prigodin et al [cond-mat/9504089]
Work in closed quantum systems is usually defined by a two-point measurement. This definition of work is compatible with quantum fluctuation theorems but it fundamentally differs from its classical counterpart. In this paper, we study the correspondence principle in quantum chaotic systems. We derive a semiclassical expression of the work distribution for chaotic systems undergoing a general, finite time, process. This semiclassical distribution converges to the classical distribution in the usual classical limit. We show numerically that, for a particle inside a chaotic cavity, the semiclassi…
Chaotic dynamics of a nonlinear oscillator is considered in the semiclassical approximation. The Loschmidt echo is calculated for a time scale which is of the power law in semiclassical parameter. It is shown that an exponential decay of the Loschmidt echo is due to a Lyapunov exponent and it has a pure classical nature.
We address the problem of the classical deterministic dynamics of a particle in a periodic asymmetric potential of the ratchet type. We take into account the inertial term in order to understand the role of the chaotic dynamics in the transport properties. By a comparison between the bifurcation diagram and the current, we identify the origin of the current reversal as a bifurcation from a chaotic to a periodic regime. Close to this bifurcation, we observed trajectories revealing intermittent chaos and anomalous deterministic diffusion.
We consider the semiclassical ballistic sigma-model as an effective theory describing the quantum mechanics of classically chaotic systems. Specifically, we elaborate on close analogies to the recently developed semiclassical theory of quantum interference in chaotic systems and show how semiclassical 'diagrams' involving near action degenerate sets of periodic orbits emerge in the field theoretical description. We further discuss how the universality phenomenon (i.e. the fact that individual chaotic systems behave according to the prescriptions of random matrix theory) can be understood from …
The problem of the classical deterministic dynamics of a particle in a periodic asymmetric potential of the ratchet type is addressed. When the inertial term is taken into account, the dynamics can be chaotic and modify the transport properties. By a comparison between the bifurcation diagram and the current, we identify the origin of the current reversal as a bifurcation from a chaotic to a periodic regime. Close to this bifurcation, we observed trajectories revealing intermittent chaos and anomalous deterministic diffusion. We extend our previous analysis of this problem to include multiple …
We use semiclassical methods to evaluate the spectral two-point correlation function of quantum chaotic systems with discrete geometrical symmetries. The energy spectra of these systems can be divided into subspectra that are associated to irreducible representations of the corresponding symmetry group. We show that for (spinless) time reversal invariant systems the statistics inside these subspectra depend on the type of irreducible representation. For real representations the spectral statistics agree with those of the Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE) of Random Matrix Theory (RMT), whereas…
Energy level statistics of quantized chaotic systems have been evaluated in the semiclassical limit via their periodic orbits using the Gutzwiller and related trace formulae. Here we evaluate a spectral statistic of chaotic 4-regular quantum graphs from their periodic orbits without the semiclassical limit. The variance of the n-th coefficient of the characteristic polynomial is determined by the sizes of the sets of distinct primitive periodic orbits with n bonds which have no self-intersections, and the sizes of the sets with a given number of self-intersections which all consist of two sect…
