The redshifted 21-cm background is expected to be a powerful probe of the early Universe, carrying both cosmological and astrophysical information from a wide range of redshifts. In particular, the power spectrum of fluctuations in the 21-cm brightness temperature is anisotropic due to the line-of-sight velocity gradient, which in principle allows for a simple extraction of this information in the limit of linear fluctuations. However, recent numerical studies suggest that the 21-cm signal is actually rather complex, and its analysis likely depends on detailed model fitting. We present the first realistic simulation of the anisotropic 21-cm power spectrum over a wide period of early cosmic history. We show that on observable scales, the anisotropy is large and thus measurable at most redshifts, and its form tracks the evolution of 21-cm fluctuations as they are produced early on by Lyman-a radiation from stars, then switch to X-ray radiation from early heating sources, and finally to ionizing radiation from stars. In particular, we predict a redshift window during cosmic heating (at z ~ 15), when the anisotropy is small, during which the shape of the 21-cm power spectrum on large scales is determined directly by the average radial distribution of the flux from X-ray sources. This makes possible a model-independent reconstruction of the X-ray spectrum of the earliest sources of cosmic heating.
The cosmic microwave background (CMB) serves as a backlight to large-scale structure during the epoch of reionization, where Thomson scattering gives rise to temperature anisotropies on small angular scales from the kinetic Sunyaev Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect. In this paper, we demonstrate that the technique of kSZ tomography (velocity reconstruction), based on cross correlations between CMB temperature and 21cm surveys, can significantly improve constraints on models of inhomogeneous reionization and provide information about large-scale modes that are poorly characterized by 21cm measurements th…
Reconstructing the Gaussian initial conditions at the beginning of the Universe from the survey data in a forward modeling framework is a major challenge in cosmology. This requires solving a high dimensional inverse problem with an expensive, non-linear forward model: a cosmological N-body simulation. While intractable until recently, we propose to solve this inference problem using an automatically differentiable N-body solver, combined with a recurrent networks to learn the inference scheme and obtain the maximum-a-posteriori (MAP) estimate of the initial conditions of the Universe. We demo…

In this work, we use a combined approach of Hubble parameter data together with redshift-space-distortion $(fσ_8)$ data, which together are used to reconstruct the teleparallel gravity (TG) Lagrangian via Gaussian processes (GP). The adopted Hubble data mainly comes from cosmic chronometers, while for the Type Ia supernovae data we use the latest jointly calibrated Pantheon compilation. Moreover, we consider two main GP covariance functions, namely the squared-exponential and Cauchy kernels in order to show consistency (to within 1$σ$ uncertainties). The core results of this work are the numer…
Cosmic polarization rotation, which may result from parity-violating new physics or the presence of primordial magnetic fields, converts $E$-mode polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) into $B$-mode polarization. Anisotropic cosmic polarization rotation leads to statistical anisotropy in CMB polarization and can be reconstructed with quadratic estimator techniques similar to those designed for gravitational lensing of the CMB. At the sensitivity of upcoming CMB surveys, lensing-induced $B$-mode polarization will act as a limiting factor in the search for anisotropic cosmic polar…

The power spectrum of cosmic microwave background lensing is a powerful tool for constraining fundamental physics such as the sum of neutrino masses and the dark energy equation of state. Current lensing measurements primarily come from distortions to the microwave background temperature field, but the polarization lensing signal will dominate upcoming experiments with greater sensitivity. Cosmic birefringence refers to the rotation of the linear polarization direction of microwave photons propagating from the last scattering surface to us, which can be induced by parity-violating physics such…
Cosmic Birefringence (CB) is the in-vacuo rotation of the linear polarization direction of photons during propagation, caused by parity-violating extensions of Maxwell electromagnetism. We build low resolution CB angle maps using Planck Legacy and NPIPE products and provide for the first time estimates of the cross-correlation spectra $C_L^{αE}$ and $C_L^{αB}$ between the CB and the CMB polarization fields. We also provide updated CB auto-correlation spectra $C_L^{αα}$ as well as the cross-correlation $C_L^{αT}$ with the CMB temperature field. We report constraints by defining the scale-invari…
The current paper provides a comprehensive examination of a dark energy cosmological model in the classical regime, in which a generic scalar field is regarded as a dark energy source. Einstein's field equations are solved in model independent way i.e. using a scheme of cosmological parametrization. A parametrization of the density parameter as a function of the cosmic scale factor has been investigated in this line. The result is noteworthy because it shows a smooth transition from a decelerating to an accelerating phase in the recent past. The model parameters involved in the functional form…
The gravitational coupling between large- and small-scale density perturbations leads to anisotropic distortions to the local small-scale matter fluctuations. Such local anisotropic distortions can be used to reconstruct the large-scale matter distribution, known as tidal reconstruction. In this paper, we apply the tidal reconstruction methods to simulated galaxies in redshift space. We find that redshift-space distortions lead to anisotropic reconstruction results. While the reconstructed radial modes are more noisy mainly due to the small-scale velocity dispersion, the transverse modes are s…
