Cosmic parallax is the change of angular separation between pair of sources at cosmological distances induced by an anisotropic expansion. An accurate astrometric experiment like Gaia could observe or put constraints on cosmic parallax. Examples of anisotropic cosmological models are Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi void models for off-center observers (introduced to explain the observed acceleration without the need for dark energy) and Bianchi metrics. If dark energy has an anisotropic equation of state, as suggested recently, then a substantial anisotropy could arise at $z \lesssim 1$ and escape the stringent constraints from the cosmic microwave background. In this paper we show that such models could be constrained by the Gaia satellite or by an upgraded future mission.
In an anisotropic universe, observers not positioned at a point of special symmetry should observe cosmic parallax - the relative angular motion of test galaxies over cosmic time. It was recently argued that the non-observance of this effect in upcoming precision astrometry missions such as Gaia may be used to place strong bounds on the position of off-center observers in a void-model universe described by the Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi metric. We consider the analogous effect in anisotropic cosmological models described by an axisymmetric homogeneous Bianchi type I metric and discuss whether any o…
The detection of a time variation of the angle between two distant sources would reveal an anisotropic expansion of the Universe. We study this effect of "cosmic parallax" within the "ellipsoidal universe" model, namely a particular homogeneous anisotropic cosmological model of Bianchi type I, whose attractive feature is the potentiality to account for the observed lack of power of the large-scale cosmic microwave background anisotropy. The preferred direction in the sky, singled out by the axis of symmetry inherent to planar symmetry of ellipsoidal universe, could in principle be constrained …
High precision astrometry now enables to measure the time drift of astrophysical observables in real time, hence providing new ways to probe different cosmological models. This article presents a general derivation of the redshift and direction drifts for general observers. It is then applied to the standard cosmological framework of a Friedmann-Lemaitre space- time including all effects at first order in the cosmological perturbations, as well as in the class of spatially anisotropic universe models of the Bianchi I family. It shows that for a general observer, the direction drift splits into…
A model of a cloud formed by massive strings is used as a source of Bianchi type II. We assumed that the expansion $(θ)$ in the model is proportional to the shear $(σ)$. To get exact solution, we have considered the equation of state of the fluid to be in the stiff form. It is found that the bulk viscosity plays a very important rule in the history of the universe. In presence of bulk viscosity the particles dominate over strings whereas in absence of it, strings dominate over the particles which is not in consistence with the recent observations. Also we observe that the viscosity caused the …
In this paper we have investigated the general form of viscous and non-viscous dark energy equation of state (EoS) parameter in the scope of anisotropic Bianchi type I space-time. We show that the presence of bulk viscosity causes transition of $ω^{de}$ from quintessence to phantom but the phantom state is an unstable state (as expected) and EoS of DE tends to $-1$ at late time. Then we show this phantomic description of the viscous dark energy and reconstruct the potential of the phantom scalar field. It is found that bulk viscosity pushes the universe to a darker region. We have also shown t…
We investigate anisotropic cosmological solutions of the theory with non-minimal couplings between electromagnetic fields and gravity in $Y(R) F^2$ form. After we derive the field equations by the variational principle, we look for spatially flat cosmological solutions with magnetic fields or electric fields. Then we give exact anisotropic solutions by assuming the hyperbolic expansion functions. We observe that the solutions approach to the isotropic case in late-times.
We present an effective Eulerian description, in the non-relativistic regime, of the growth of cosmological perturbations around a homogeneous but anisotropic Bianchi I spacetime background. We assume a small deviation from isotropy, sourced at late times for example by dark energy anisotropic stress. We thus derive an analytic solution for the linear dark matter density contrast, and use it in a formal perturbative approach which allows us to derive a second order (non-linear) solution. As an application of the procedure followed here we derive analytic expressions for the power spectrum and …
We present HST photometry of a selected sample of 50 long-period, low-extinction Milky Way Cepheids measured on the same WFC3 F555W, F814W, and F160W-band photometric system as extragalactic Cepheids in SN Ia hosts. These bright Cepheids were observed with the WFC3 spatial scanning mode in the optical and near-infrared to mitigate saturation and reduce pixel-to-pixel calibration errors to reach a mean photometric error of 5 millimags per observation. We use the new Gaia DR2 parallaxes and HST photometry to simultaneously constrain the cosmic distance scale and to measure the DR2 parallax zerop…
We investigate the cosmological reconstruction in anisotropic universe for both homogeneous and inhomogeneous content of the universe. Special attention is attached to three interesting cases: Bianchi type-I, Bianchi type-III and Kantowski-Sachs models. The de Sitter, power-law and general exponential solutions are assumed for the scale factor in each spatial direction and the corresponding cosmological models are reconstructed. Moreover, for the general exponential solutions, from which the de Sitter and power-law solutions may be obtained, we obtain models which reproduce the early universe,…
We construct general anisotropic cosmological scenarios governed by an $f(R)$ gravitational sector. Focusing then on Kantowski-Sachs geometries in the case of $R^n$-gravity, and modelling the matter content as a perfect fluid, we perform a detailed phase-space analysis. We find that at late times the universe can result to a state of accelerating expansion, and additionally, for a particular $n$-range ($2<n<3$) it exhibits phantom behavior. Furthermore, isotropization has been achieved independently of the initial anisotropy degree, showing in a natural way why the observable universe is so ho…
In this paper we consider the question of observational signatures of a false vacuum decay event in the early universe followed by a period of inflation; in particular, motivated by the string landscape, we consider decays in which the parent vacuum has a smaller number of large dimensions than the current vacuum, which leads to an anisotropic universe. We go beyond previous studies, and examine the effects on the CMB temperature and polarisation power spectra, due to both scalar and tensor modes, and consider not only late-time effects but also the full cosmological perturbation theory at ear…
We investigate a simple inhomogeneous anisotropic cosmology (plane symmetric $G_2$ model) filled with a tilted perfect fluid undergoing velocity diffusion on a scalar field. Considered are two types of fluid: dust and radiation. We solve the system of Einstein field equations and diffusion equations numerically and demonstrate how the universe evolves towards its future asymptotic state. Also, typical time scales of characteristic processes are determined. The obtained results for dust- and radiation-filled cosmologies are compared to each other and to those in the diffusionless case, giving a…
We display some simple cosmological solutions of gravity theories with quadratic Ricci curvature terms added to the Einstein-Hilbert lagrangian which exhibit anisotropic inflation. The Hubble expansion rates are constant and unequal in three orthogonal directions. We describe the evolution of the simplest of these homogeneous and anisotropic cosmological models from its natural initial state and evaluate the deviations they will create from statistical isotropy in the fluctuations produced during a period of anisotropic inflation. The anisotropic inflation is not a late-time attractor in these…
We construct an anisotropic Weyl invariant theory in the ADM formalism and discuss its cosmological consequences. It extends the original anisotropic Weyl invariance of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity using an extra scalar field. The action is invariant under the anisotropic transformations of the space and time metric components with an arbitrary value of the critical exponent $z$. One of the interesting features is that the cosmological constant term maintains the anisotropic symmetry for $z=-3$. We also include the ordinary matter and show that it can preserve the anisotropic Weylinvariance if the …
We construct general anisotropic cosmological scenarios governed by an $f(R)=R^n$ gravitational sector. Focusing then on some specific geometries, and modelling the matter content as a perfect fluid, we perform a phase-space analysis. We analyze the possibility of accelerating expansion at late times, and additionally, we determine conditions for the parameter $n$ for the existence of phantom behavior, contracting solutions as well as of cyclic cosmology. Furthermore, we analyze if the universe evolves towards the future isotropization without relying on a cosmic no-hair theorem. Our results i…
