In this paper we continue to study Belavin-Drinfeld cohomology introduced in arXiv:1303.4046 [math.QA] and related to the classification of quantum groups whose quasi-classical limit is a given simple complex Lie algebra. Here we compute Belavin-Drinfeld cohomology for all non-skewsymmetric $r$-matrices from the Belavin-Drinfeld list for simple Lie algebras of type $B$, $C$, and $D$.
We suggest a formula for quantum universal $R$-matrices corresponding to quasitriangular classical $r$-matrices classified by Belavin and Drinfeld for all simple Lie algebras. The $R$-matrices are obtained by twisting the standard universal $R$-matrix.
The present article is a continuation of QA/1303.4046, where we discussed the classification of quantum groups with quasi-classical limit $\mathfrak{g}$ and introduced a theory of Belavin-Drinfeld cohomology associated to any non-skewsymmetric $r$-matrix. Depending on the form of the corresponding double, there exists a one-to-one correspondence between gauge equivalence classes of Lie bialgebra structures on $\mathfrak{g}\otimes_{\mathbb{C}}\mathbb{K}$, where $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{C}((\hbar))$, and untwisted or twisted cohomology classes. In the present paper we investigate twisted cohomologies…
Using the notion of compatibility between Poisson brackets and cluster structures in the coordinate rings of simple Lie groups, Gekhtman Shapiro and Vainshtein conjectured a correspondence between the two. Poisson Lie groups are classified by the Belavin--Drinfeld classification of solutions to the classical Yang Baxter equation. For any non trivial Belavin--Drinfeld data of minimal size for $SL_{n}$, the companion paper constructed a cluster structure with a locally regular initial seed, which was proved to be compatible with the Poisson bracket associated with that Belavin--Drinfeld data. Th…
Using the notion of compatibility between Poisson brackets and cluster structures in the coordinate rings of simple Lie groups, Gekhtman Shapiro and Vainshtein conjectured a correspondence between the two. Poisson Lie groups are classified by the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of solutions to the classical Yang Baxter equation. For any non trivial Belavin-Drinfeld data of minimal size for $SL_{n}$, we give an algorithm for constructing an initial seed $Σ$ in $\mathcal{O}(SL_{n})$. The cluster structure $\mathcal{C}=\mathcal{C}(Σ)$ is then proved to be compatible with the Poisson bracket assoc…
In the present article we discuss the classification of quantum groups whose quasi-classical limit is a given simple complex Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. This problem reduces to the classification of all Lie bialgebra structures on $\mathfrak{g}(\mathbb{K})$, where $\mathbb{K}=\mathbb{C}((\hbar))$. The associated classical double is of the form $\mathfrak{g}(\mathbb{K})\otimes_{\mathbb{K}} A$, where $A$ is one of the following: $\mathbb{K}[ε]$, where $ε^{2}=0$, $\mathbb{K}\oplus \mathbb{K}$ or $\mathbb{K}[j]$ where $j^{2}=\hbar$. The first case relates to quasi-Frobenius Lie algebras. In the se…
In early eighties, Belavin and Drinfeld showed that nonskewsymmetric classical r-matrices for simple Lie algebras are classified by combinatorial objects which are now called Belavin-Drinfeld triples. Later the second author of the present paper generalized this result to the case of dynamical r-matrices, and showed that they correspond to generalized Belavin-Drinfeld triples. The dynamical r-matrix corresponding a triple is given by a certain explicit formula, which works for any symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebra. In special cases, this formula gives the Felder and the Belavin r-matrix. In 1994…
We study natural cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on simple complex Lie groups and Poisson-Lie structures compatible with these cluster structures. According to our main conjecture, each class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of Poisson-Lie structures on $\G$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $Ø(\G)$. We prove a reduction theorem explaining how different parts of the conjecture are related to each other. The conjecture is established for $SL_n$, $n<5$, and for any $\G$ in the case of the standard Poisson-Lie structure.
This paper is a continuation of math.QA/9907181 and math.QA/9908115. We consider traces of intertwiners between certain representations of the quantized enveloping algebra associated to a semisimple complex Lie algebra g, which are twisted by a ``generalized Belavin-Drinfeld triple'', i.e a triple consisting of two subdiagrams of the Dynkin diagram of g together with an isomorphism between them. The generating functions F(lambda,mu) for such traces depend on two weights lambda and mu. We show that F(lambda,mu) satisfy two sets of difference equations in the variable lambda: the Macdonald-Ruijs…
For a simple Lie algebra L of type A, D, E we show that any Belavin-Drinfeld triple on the Dynkin diagram of L produces a collection of Drinfeld twists for Lusztig's small quantum group u_q(L). These twists give rise to new finite-dimensional factorizable Hopf algebras, i.e. new small quantum groups. For any Hopf algebra constructed in this manner, we identify the group of grouplike elements, identify the Drinfeld element, and describe the irreducible representations of the dual in terms of the representation theory of the parabolic subalgebra(s) in L associated to the given Belavin-Drinfeld t…
A construction is given of a family of non-standard quantizations of the algebra of functions on a connected complex semi-simple algebraic group. For each ``disjoint'' triple in the sense of Belavin and Drinfeld, a 2-cocycle is constructed on certain multi-parameter quantum groups. The new non-standard quantum groups are the Hopf algebras obtained by twisting the known quantum groups by these 2-cocycles. In particular, the Cremmer-Gervais quantization of $SL(3)$ can be constructed in this way.
We relate the Belavin--Drinfeld cohomologies (twisted and untwisted) that have been introduced in the literature to study certain families of quantum groups and Lie bialgebras over a non algebraically closed field $\mathbb K$ of characteristic 0 to the standard non-abelian Galois cohomology $H^1(\mathbb K, \mathbf H)$ for a suitable algebraic $\mathbb K$-group $\mathbf H.$ The approach presented allows us to establish in full generality certain conjectures that were known to hold for the classical types of the split simple Lie algebras.
We study solutions to a generalized version of the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) with values in a central simple Lie algebra over a field of characteristic 0 from an algebro-geometric perspective. In particular, we describe such solutions using cohomology free sheaves of Lie algebras on projective curves. This framework leads to a new proof of the Belavin-Drinfeld trichotomy, which asserts that over the ground field $\mathbb{C}$ any non-degenerate solution of the CYBE is either elliptic, trigonometric or rational. Furthermore, we obtain new structural results for solutions of the gener…
We prove the GGS conjecture (1993), due to Gerstenhaber, Giaquinto, and Schack, which gives a particularly simple explicit quantization of classical r-matrices for Lie algebras gl(n) in terms of an element R satisfying the quantum Yang-Baxter equation and the Hecke condition. The r-matrices were classified by Belavin and Drinfeld in the 1980s in terms of combinatorial objects known as Belavin-Drinfeld triples. We prove this conjecture by showing that the GGS matrix coincides with another quantization due to Etingof, Schiffmann, and the author, which is a more general construction. We do this b…
The first example of a quantum group was introduced by P.~Kulish and N.~Reshetikhin. In their paper "Quantum linear problem for the sine-Gordon equation and higher representations" published in Zap. Nauchn. Sem. LOMI, 1981, Volume 101 (English version: Journal of Soviet Mathematics, 1983, 23:4), they found a new algebra which was later called $U_q (sl(2))$. Their example was developed independently by V.~Drinfeld and M.~Jimbo, which resulted in the general notion of quantum group. Recently, the so-called Belavin-Drinfeld cohomologies (twisted and untwisted) have been introduced in the literatu…
Given an arbitrary field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic 0, we study Lie bialgebra structures on $sl(n,\mathbb{F})$, based on the description of the corresponding classical double. For any Lie bialgebra structure $δ$, the classical double $D(sl(n,\mathbb{F}),δ)$ is isomorphic to $sl(n,\mathbb{F})\otimes_{\mathbb{F}} A$, where $A$ is either $\mathbb{F}[\varepsilon]$, with $\varepsilon^{2}=0$, or $\mathbb{F}\oplus \mathbb{F}$ or a quadratic field extension of $\mathbb{F}$. In the first case, the classification leads to quasi-Frobenius Lie subalgebras of $sl(n,\mathbb{F})$. In the second and third…
In the 1980's, Belavin and Drinfeld classified non-unitary solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) for simple Lie algebras. They proved that all such solutions fall into finitely many continuous families and introduced combinatorial objects to label these families, Belavin-Drinfeld triples. In 1993, Gerstenhaber, Giaquinto, and Schack attempted to quantize such solutions for Lie algebras sl(n). As a result, they formulated a conjecture stating that certain explicitly given elements R satisfy the quantum Yang-Baxter equation (QYBE) and the Hecke condition. Specifically, the conje…
A conjecture by Gekhtman, Shapiro and Vainshtein suggests a correspondence between the Belavin - Drinfeld classification of solutions of the classical Yang - Baxter equation and cluster structures on simple Lie groups. This paper confirms the conjecture for $SL_{5}$. Given a Belavin - Drinfeld class, we construct the corresponding cluster structure in $\mathcal{O}\left(SL_{5}\right)$, and show that it satisfies all parts of the conjecture.
We provide an explicit quantization of dynamical r-matrices for semisimple Lie algebras, classified earlier by the third author, which includes the Belavin-Drinfeld r-matrices. We do so by constructing an appropriate (dynamical) twist in the tensor square of the Drinfeld-Jimbo quantum group U_q(g), which twists the R-matrix of U_q(g) into the desired quatization. The construction of this twist is based on the method stemming from the work of Jimbo-Konno-Odake-Shiraishi and Arnaudon-Buffenoir-Ragoucy-Roche, i.e. on defining the twist as a unique solution of a suitable difference equation. This …
In the 1980's, Belavin and Drinfeld classified solutions r of the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) for simple Lie algebras \mathfrak g satisfying 0 \neq r + r_{21} \in (S^2 \mathfrak{g})^{\mathfrak{g}}. They proved that all such solutions fall into finitely many continuous families and introduced combinatorial objects to label these families, Belavin-Drinfeld triples. In 1993, Gerstenhaber, Giaquinto, and Schack attempted to quantize such solutions for Lie algebras \mathfrak{sl}(n). As a result, they formulated a conjecture stating that certain explicitly given elements R \in Mat_n(\mathb…
We construct r-matrices for simple Lie superalgebras with non-degenerate Killing forms using Belavin-Drinfeld type triples. This construction gives us the standard r-matrices and some nonstandard ones.
This is the second paper in the series of papers dedicated to the study of natural cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on simple complex Lie groups and Poisson-Lie structures compatible with these cluster structures. According to our main conjecture, each class in the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of Poisson-Lie structures on $\G$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $Ø(\G)$. We have shown before that this conjecture holds for any $\G$ in the case of the standard Poisson-Lie structure and for all Belavin-Drinfeld classes in $SL_n$, $n<5$. In this paper we establish it for t…
We study real and complex Manin triples for a complex reductive Lie algebra, $\g$. The first part includes, and extends to complex Manin triples, our earlier work [De]. First, we generalize results of E. Karolinsky, on the classification of Lagrangian subalgebras (cf.[K1], [K3]). Then we show that, if $\g$ is non commutative, one can attach, to each Manin triple in $\g$, another one for a strictly smaller reductive complex Lie subalgebra of $\g$. This gives a powerful tool for induction. Then we classify complex Manin triples, in terms of what we call generalized Belavin-Drinfeld data. In part…
Using recent results of P. Etingof and A. Varchenko on the Classical Dynamical Yang-Baxter equation, we reduce the classification of dynamical r-matrices r on a commutative subalgebra l of a Lie algebra g to a purely algebraic problem under some technical conditions on the symmetric part of r. Using this, we then classify all non skew-symmetric dynamical r-matrices when g is a simple Lie algebra and l a commutative subalgebra containing a regular semisimple element. This partially answers a question in [EV] q-alg/9703040 and generalizes the Belavin-Drinfeld classification of constant r-matrice…
We describe the Lie bialgebra structure on the Lie superalgebra sl(2,1) related to an r-matrix that cannot be obtained by a Belavin-Drinfeld type construction. This structure makes sl(2,1) into the Drinfeld double of a four-dimensional subalgebra.
The standard Lie bialgebra structure on an affine Kac-Moody algebra induces a Lie bialgebra structure on the underlying loop algebra and its parabolic subalgebras. In this paper we classify all classical twists of the induced Lie bialgebra structures in terms of Belavin-Drinfeld quadruples up to a natural notion of equivalence. To obtain this classification we first show that the induced bialgebra structures are defined by certain solutions of the classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) with two parameters. Then, using the algebro-geometric theory of CYBE, based on torsion free coherent sheaves,…
The classical Yang-Baxter equation (CYBE) is an algebraic equation central in the theory of integrable systems. Its solutions were classified by Belavin and Drinfeld. Quantization of CYBE led to the theory of quantum groups. A geometric interpretation of CDYB was given by Drinfeld and gave rise to the theory of Poisson-Lie groups. The classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation (CDYBE) is an important differential equation analagous to CYBE and introduced by Felder as the consistency condition for the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov-Bernard equations for correlation functions in conformal field theory on …
Following V. Drinfeld and G. Olshansky, we construct Manin triples $(\fg, \fa, \fa^*)$ such that $\fg$ is different from Drinfeld's doubles of $\fa$ for several series of Lie superalgebras $\fa$ which have no even invariant bilinear form (periplectic, Poisson and contact) and for a remarkable exception. Straightforward superization of suitable Etingof--Kazhdan's results guarantee then the uniqueness of $q$-quantization of our Lie bialgebras. Our examples give solutions to the quantum Yang-Baxter equation in the cases when the classical YB equation has no solutions. To find explicit solutions i…
All factorizable Lie bialgebra structures on complex reductive Lie algebras were described by Belavin and Drinfeld. We classify the symplectic leaves of the full class of corresponding connected Poisson-Lie groups. A formula for their dimensions is also proved.
We show that the Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology of a Hopf algebra determines its Hochschild cohomology, and in particular its Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomological dimension bounds its Hochschild cohomological dimension, with equality of the dimensions when the Hopf algebra is cosemisimple of Kac type. Together with some general considerations on free Yetter-Drinfeld modules over adjoint Hopf subalgebras and the monoidal invariance of Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology, this is used to show that both Gerstenhaber-Schack and Hochschild cohomological dimensions of the coordinate algebra of the quantum p…
We approach the classification of Lie bialgebra structures on simple Lie algebras from the viewpoint of descent and non-abelian cohomology. We achieve a description of the problem in terms faithfully flat cohomology over an arbitrary ring over $\mathbb{Q}$, and solve it for Drinfeld-Jimbo Lie bialgebras over fields of characteristic zero. We consider the classification up to isomorphism, as opposed to equivalence, and treat split and non-split Lie algebras alike. We moreover give a new interpretation of scalar multiples of Lie bialgebras hitherto studied using twisted Belavin-Drinfeld cohomolo…
This paper continues our investigation of a class of generalized quantum groups. The "standard" R-matrix was shown to be the unique solution of a very simple, linear recursion relation and the classical limit was obtained in the case of quantized Kac-Moody algebras of finite type. Here the standard R-matrix for generalized quantum groups is first examined in the case of quantized affine Kac-Moody algebras. The classical limit yields the standard affine r-matrices of Belavin and Drinfeld. Then, turning to the general case, we study the exact deformations of the standard R-matrix and the associa…
The notion of a quasideterminant and a quasiminor of a matrix A=(a_{ij}) with not necessarily commuting entries was introduced recently by I.Gelfand and the second author. The ordinary determinant of a matrix with commuting entries can be written (in many ways) as a product of quasiminors. Furthermore, it was noticed by a number of authors that such well-known noncommutative determinants as the Berezinian, the Capelli determinant, the quantum determinant of the generating matrix of the quantum group U_h(gl_n) and the Yangian Y(gl_n) can be expressed as products of commuting quasiminors. The ai…
We investigate Lie bialgebra structures on simple Lie algebras of non-split type $A$. It turns out that there are several classes of such Lie bialgebra structures, and it is possible to classify some of them. The classification is obtained using Belavin--Drinfeld cohomology sets, which are introduced in the paper. Our description is particularly detailed over fields of cohomological dimension at most two, and is related to quaternion algebras and the Brauer group. We then extend the results to certain rational function fields over real closed fields via Pfister's theory of quadratic forms and …
A large family of "standard" coboundary Hopf algebras is investigated. The existence of a universal R-matrix is demonstrated for the case when the parameters are in general position. Special values of the parameters are characterized by the appearance of certain ideals; in this case the universal R-matrix exists on the associated algebraic quotient. In special cases the quotient is a "standard" quantum group; all familiar quantum groups including twisted ones are obtained in this way. In other special cases one finds new types of coboundary bi-algebras. A large class of first order deformation…
