Richard Borcherds proposed an elegant geometric version of renormalized perturbative quantum field theory in curved spacetimes, where Lagrangians are sections of a Hopf algebra bundle over a smooth manifold. However, this framework looses its geometric meaning when Borcherds introduces a (graded) commutative normal product. We present a fully geometric version of Borcherds' quantization where the (external) tensor product plays the role of the normal product. We construct a noncommutative many-body Hopf algebra and a module over it which contains all the terms of the perturbative expansion and we quantize it to recover the expectation values of standard quantum field theory when the Hopf algebra fiber is (graded) cocommutative. This construction enables to the second quantize any theory described by a cocommutative Hopf algebra bundle.
A noncommutative version of the (anti-) self-dual Yang-Mills equations is shown to be related via dimensional reductions to noncommutative formulations of the generalized (SO(3)/SO(2)) nonlinear Schrodinger (NS) equations, of the super-Korteweg- de Vries (super-KdV) as well as of the matrix KdV equations. Noncommutative extensions of their linear systems and bicomplexes associated to conserved quantities are discussed.
Alain Connes' noncommutative theory led to an interesting model including both Standard Model of particle physics and Euclidean Gravity. Nevertheless, an hyperbolic version of the gravitational part would be necessary to make physical predictions, but it is still under research. We shall present the difficulties to generalize the model from Riemannian to Lorentzian Geometry and discuss key ideas and current attempts.
In this work we use the well known formalism developed by Faddeev and Jackiw to introduce noncommutativity within two nonlinear systems, the SU(2) Skyrme and O(3) nonlinear sigma models. The final result is the Lagrangian formulations for the noncommutative versions of both models. The possibility of obtaining different noncommutative versions for these nonlinear systems is demonstrated.
We present a noncommutative version of the Burgers equation which possesses the Lax representation and discuss the integrability in detail. We find a noncommutative version of the Cole-Hopf transformation and succeed in the linearization of it. The linearized equation is the (noncommutative) diffusion equation and exactly solved. We also discuss the properties of some exact solutions. The result shows that the noncommutative Burgers equation is completely integrable even though it contains infinite number of time derivatives. Furthermore, we derive the noncommutative Burgers equation from the …
In this paper we study families of complex Hermite polynomials and construct deformed versions of them, using a $GL(2,\mathbb{C})$ transformation. This construction leads to the emergence of biorthogonal families of deformed complex Hermite polynomials, which we then study in the context of a two-dimensional model of noncommutative quantum mechanics.
This informal introduction is an extended version of a three hours lecture given at the 6th Peyresq meeting ``Integrable systems and quantum field theory''. In this lecture, we make an overview of some of the mathematical results which motivated the development of what is called noncommutative geometry. The first of these results is the theorem by Gelfand and Neumark about commutative $C^\ast$-algebras; then come some aspects of the $K$-theories, first for topological spaces, then for $C^\ast$-algebras and finally the purely algebraic version. Cyclic homology is introduced, keeping in mind its…
In this paper we construct a version of Ricci flow for noncommutative 2-tori, based on a spectral formulation in terms of the eigenvalues and eigenfunction of the Laplacian and recent results on the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for noncommutative tori.
A matrix modeling formulation for translation-invariant noncommutative gauge theories is given in the setting of differential graded algebras and quantum groups. Translation-invariant products are discussed in the setting of α-cohomology and it is shown that loop calculations are entirely determined by α-cohomology class of star product in all orders. Noncommutative version of geometric quantization and (anti-) BRST transformations is worked out which leads to a noncommutative description of consistent anomalies and Schwinger terms.
We consider Fredholm determinants of matrix convolution operators associated to matrix versions of the $n - $th Airy functions. Using the theory of integrable operators, we relate them to a fully noncommutative Painlevé II hierarchy, defined through a matrix valued version of the Lenard operators. In particular, the Riemann-Hilbert technique used to study these integrable operators allows to find a Lax pair for each member of the hierarchy. Finally, the coefficients of the Lax matrices are explicitely written in terms of these matrix valued Lenard operators and some solution of the hierarchy a…
Noncommutative Ward's conjecture is a noncommutative version of the original Ward's conjecture which says that almost all integrable equations can be obtained from anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations by reduction. In this paper, we prove that wide class of noncommutative integrable equations in both (2+1)- and (1+1)-dimensions are actually reductions of noncommutative anti-self-dual Yang-Mills equations with finite gauge groups, which include noncommutative versions of Calogero-Bogoyavlenskii-Schiff eq., Zakharov system, Ward's chiral and topological chiral models, (modified) Korteweg-de Vries…
Starting from a standard noncommutative gauge theory and using the Seiberg-Witten map we propose a new version of a noncommutative gravity. We use consistent deformation theory starting from a free gauge action and gauging a killing symmetry of the background metric to construct a deformation of the gauge theory that we can relate with gravity. The result of this consistent deformation of the gauge theory is nonpolynomial in A_μ. From here we can construct a version of noncommutative gravity that is simpler than previous attempts. Our proposal is consistent and is not plagued with the problems…
We extend the formalism of integrable operators a' la Its-Izergin-Korepin-Slavnov to matrix-valued convolution operators on a semi-infinite interval and to matrix integral operators with a kernel of the form E_1^T(x) E_2(y)/(x+y) thus proving that their resolvent operators can be expressed in terms of solutions of some specific Riemann-Hilbert problems. We also describe some applications, mainly to a noncommutative version of Painleve' II (recently introduced by Retakh and Rubtsov), a related noncommutative equation of Painleve' type. We construct a particular family of solutions of the noncom…
We construct a deformation quantized version (ncKdV) of the KdV equation which possesses an infinite set of conserved densities. Solutions of the ncKdV are obtained from solutions of the KdV equation via a kind of Seiberg-Witten map. The ncKdV is related to a modified ncKdV equation by a noncommutative Miura transformation.
We present some ideas for a possible Noncommutative Topological Quantum Field Theory (NCTQFT) and Noncommutative Floer Homology (NCFH). Our motivation is two-fold and it comes both from physics and mathematics: On the one hand we argue that NCTQFT is the correct mathematical framework for a quantum field theory of all known interactions in nature (including gravity). On the other hand we hope that a possible NCFH will apply to practically every 3-manifold (and not only to homology 3-spheres as ordinary Floer Homology currently does). The two motivations are closely related since, at least in t…
Some time ago we presented an article (which was in fact the outline of a research programme) in which we argued for the need to develop a nonommutative version of topological quantum field theories (NCTQFT for short). Recent work by C.J. Hogan et all, has demonstrated the possibility to get experimental verification of holography; if this comes true, then that would indicate that quantum gravity is indeed a TQFT. On the other hand there is accumulating evidence that the underlying geometry of spacetime is a noncommutative (abreviated to nc in the sequel) space, hence if one wants a unified th…
A definition of a quantum vertex algebra, which is a deformation of a vertex algebra, was proposed by Etingof and Kazhdan in 1998. In a nutshell, a quantum vertex algebra is a braided state-field correspondence which satisfies associativity and braided locality axioms. We develop a structure theory of quantum vertex algebras, parallel to that of vertex algebras. In particular, we introduce braided n-products for a braided state-field correspondence and prove for quantum vertex algebras a version of the Borcherds identity.
We give a pedagogical introduction to $L_\infty$-algebras and their uses in organising the symmetries and dynamics of classical field theories, as well as of the conventional noncommutative gauge theories that arise as low-energy effective field theories in string theory. We review recent developments which formulate field theories with braided gauge symmetries as a new means of overcoming several obstacles in the standard noncommutative theories, such as the restrictions on gauge algebras and matter fields. These theories can be constructed by using techniques from Drinfel'd twist deformation…
Together with collaborators, we introduced a noncommutative Riemannian geometry over Moyal algebras and systematically developed it for noncommutative spaces embedded in higher dimensions in the last few years. The theory was applied to construct a noncommutative version of general relativity, which is expected to capture some essential structural features of spacetime at the Planck scale. Examples of noncommutative spacetimes were investigated in detail. These include quantisations of plane-fronted gravitational waves, quantum Schwarzschild spacetime and Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetime, and…
