The radii of $α$-convexity are deduced for three different kind of normalized Bessel functions of the first kind and it is shown that these radii are between the radii of starlikeness and convexity, when $α\in[0,1],$ and they are decreasing with respect to the parameter $α.$ The results presented in this paper unify some recent results on the radii of starlikeness and convexity for normalized Bessel functions of the first kind. The key tools in the proofs are some interlacing properties of the zeros of some Dini functions and the zeros of Bessel functions of the first kind.
The radius of convexity of two normalized Bessel functions of the first kind are determined in the case when the order is between $-2$ and $-1.$ Our methods include the minimum principle for harmonic functions, the Hadamard factorization of some Dini functions, properties of the zeros of Dini functions via Lommel polynomials and some inequalities for complex and real numbers.
In this paper we determine the radius of convexity for three kind of normalized Bessel functions of the first kind. In the mentioned cases the normalized Bessel functions are starlike-univalent and convex-univalent, respectively, on the determined disks. The key tools in the proofs of the main results are some new Mittag-Leffler expansions for quotients of Bessel functions of the first kind, special properties of the zeros of Bessel functions of the first kind and their derivative, and the fact that the smallest positive zeros of some Dini functions are less than the first positive zero of the…
In this paper necessary and sufficient conditions are deduced for the close-to-convexity of some special combinations of Bessel functions of the first kind and their derivatives by using a result of Shah and Trimble about transcendental entire functions with univalent derivatives and some newly discovered Mittag-Leffler expansions for Bessel functions of the first kind.
In the present investigation our main aim is to give lower bounds for the ratio of some normalized $q$-Bessel functions and their sequences of partial sums. Especially, we consider Jackson's second and third $q$-Bessel functions and we apply one normalization for each of them.
The article considers the generalized k-Bessel functions and represents it as Wright functions. Then we study the monotonicity properties of the ratio of two different orders k- Bessel functions, and the ratio of the k-Bessel and the m-Bessel functions. The log-convexity with respect to the order of the k-Bessel also given. An investigation regarding the monotonicity of the ratio of the k-Bessel and k-confluent hypergeometric functions are discussed.
In the paper, the author establishes inequalities, monotonicity, convexity, and unimodality for functions concerning the modified Bessel functions of the first kind and compute the completely monotonic degrees of differences between the exponential and trigamma functions.
In this paper our aim is to deduce some sufficient (and necessary) conditions for the close-to-convexity of some special functions and their derivatives, like Bessel functions, Struve functions, and a particular case of Lommel functions of the first kind, which can be expressed in terms of the hypergeometric function ${}_1F_2$. The key tool in our proofs is a result of Shah and Trimble about transcendental entire functions with univalent derivatives. Moreover, a known result of Pólya on entire functions, the infinite product representations and some results on zeros of Bessel, Struve and Lomme…
The reality of the zeros of the product and cross-product of Bessel and modified Bessel functions of the first kind is studied. As a consequence the reality of the zeros of two hypergeometric polynomials is obtained together with the number of the Fourier critical points of the normalized forms of the product and cross-product of Bessel functions. Moreover, the interlacing properties of the real zeros of these products of Bessel functions and their derivatives are also obtained. As an application some geometric properties of the normalized forms of the cross-product and product of Bessel and m…
In this note our aim is to determine the radius of starlikeness of the normalized Bessel functions of the first kind for three different kinds of normalization. The key tool in the proof of our main result is the Mittag-Leffler expansion for Bessel functions of the first kind and the fact that, according to Ismail and Muldoon [IM2], the smallest positive zeros of some Dini functions are less than the first positive zero of the Bessel function of the first kind.
In this note we offer some log-concavity properties of certain functions related to Bessel functions of the first kind and modified Bessel functions of the first and second kind, by solving partially a recent conjecture on the log-convexity/log-concavity properties for modified Bessel functions of the first kind and their derivatives. Moreover, we give an application of the mentioned results by extending two inequalities of van der Corput to Bessel and modified Bessel functions of the first kind. Similar inequalities are proved also for modified Bessel functions of the second kind, as well as …
In this paper we consider some normalized Bessel, Struve and Lommel functions of the first kind, and by using the Euler-Rayleigh inequalities for the first positive zeros of combination of special functions we obtain tight lower and upper bounds for the radii of starlikeness of these functions. By considering two different normalization of Bessel and Struve functions we give some inequalities for the radii of convexity of the same functions. On the other hand, we show that the radii of univalence of some normalized Struve and Lommel functions are exactly the radii of starlikeness of the same f…
In this paper a necessary and sufficient condition is deduced for the close-to-convexity of a cross product of Bessel and modified Bessel functions of the first kind and their derivatives by using a result of Shah and Trimble about transcendental entire functions with univalent derivatives, the newly discovered power series and infinite product representation of this cross-product, as well as a slightly modified version of a result of Lorch on the monotonicity of the zeros of the cross product with respect to the order.
This paper introduces and studies a generalization of the $\mathtt{k}$-Bessel function of order $ν$ given by \[\mathtt{W}^{\mathtt{k}}_{ν, c}(x):= \sum_{r=0}^\infty \frac{(-c)^r}{Γ_{\mathtt{k}}\left( r \mathtt{k} +ν+\mathtt{k}\right) r!} \left(\frac{x}{2}\right)^{2r+\fracν{\mathtt{k}}}. \] Representation formulae are derived for $\mathtt{W}^{\mathtt{k}}_{ν, c}.$ Further the function $\mathtt{W}^{\mathtt{k}}_{ν, c}$ is shown to be a solution of a second order differential equation. Monotonicity and log-convexity properties for the generalized $\mathtt{k}$-Bessel function $\mathtt{W}^{\mathtt{k}…
In this paper our aim is to find the radii of starlikeness and convexity of the normalized Wright functions for three different kind of normalization. The key tools in the proof of our main results are the Mittag-Leffler expansion for Wright function and properties of real zeros of Wright function and its derivative. In addition, by using the Euler-Rayleigh inequalities we obtain some tight lower and upper bounds for the radii of starlikeness and convexity of order zero for the normalized Wright functions. The main results of the paper are natural extensions of some known results on classical …
Let R+ = (0,infinity) and let M be the family of all mean values of two numbers in R+ (some examples are the arithmetic, geometric, and harmonic means). Given m1, m2 in M, we say that a function f : R+ to R+ is (m1,m2)-convex if f(m1(x,y)) < or = m2(f(x),f(y)) for all x, y in R+ . The usual convexity is the special case when both mean values are arithmetic means. We study the dependence of (m1,m2)-convexity on m1 and m2 and give sufficient conditions for (m1,m2)-convexity of functions defined by Maclaurin series. The criteria involve the Maclaurin coefficients. Our results yield a class of new…
We deduce some new functional inequalities, like Turán type inequalities, Redheffer type inequalities, and a Mittag-Leffler expansion for a special combination of modified Bessel functions of the first kind, called modified Dini functions. Moreover, we show the complete monotonicity of a quotient of modified Dini functions by introducing a new continuous infinitely divisible probability distribution. The key tool in our proofs is a recently developed infinite product representation for a special combination of Bessel functions of the first, which was very useful in determining the radius of co…
In this paper we consider a sum of modified Bessel functions of the first kind of which particular case is used in the study of Kanter's sharp modified Bessel function bound for concentrations of some sums of independent symmetric random vectors. We present some monotonicity and convexity properties for that sum of modified Bessel functions of the first kind, as well as some Turán type inequalities, lower and upper bounds. Moreover, we point out an error in Kanter's paper [Ka] and at the end of the paper we pose an open problem, which may be of interest for further research.
In this note our aim is to deduce some new monotonicity properties for a special combination of Bessel functions of the first kind by using a recently developed Mittag-Leffler expansion for the derivative of a normalized Bessel function of the first kind. These monotonicity properties are used to obtain some new inequalities for Bessel functions of the first kind.
Tight lower and upper bounds for the radius of univalence of some normalized Bessel, Struve and Lommel functions of the first kind are obtained via Euler-Rayleigh inequalities. It is shown also that the radius of univalence of the Struve functions is greater than the corresponding radius of univalence of Bessel functions. Moreover, by using the idea of Kreyszig and Todd, and Wilf it is proved that the radii of univalence of some normalized Struve and Lommel functions are exactly the radii of starlikeness of the same functions. The Laguerre-Pólya class of entire functions plays an important rol…
In this paper, we consider the normalized Bessel function of index $α> -\frac{1}{2}$, we find an integral representation of the term $x^nj_{α+n}(x)j_α(y)$. This allows us to establish a product formula for the generalized Hankel function $B^{κ,n}_λ$ on $\mathbb{R}$. $B^{κ,n}_λ$ is the kernel of the integral transform $\mathcal{F}_{κ,n}$ arising from the Dunkl theory. Indeed we show that $B^{κ,n}_λ(x)B^{κ,n}_λ(y)$ can be expressed as an integral in terms of $B^{κ,n}_λ(z)$ with explicit kernel invoking Gegenbauer polynomials for all $n\in\mathbb{N}^\ast$. The obtained result generalizes the prod…
The purpose of this paper is to provide a set of sufficient conditions so that the normalized form of the Fox-Wright functions have certain geometric properties like close-to-convexity, univalency, convexity and starlikeness inside the unit disc. In particular, we study some geometric properties for some class of functions related to the generalized hypergeometric functions.
In this paper we prove some monotonicity, log--convexity and log--concavity properties for the Volterra and incomplete Volterra functions. Moreover, as consequences of these results, we present some functional inequalities (like Turán type inequalities) as well as we determined sharp upper and lower bounds for the normalized incomplete Volterra functions in terms of weighted power means.
The normalized incomplete beta function can be defined either as cumulative distribution function of beta density or as the Gauss hypergeometric function with one of the upper parameters equal to unity. Logarithmic concavity/convexity of this function in parameters was established by Finner and Roters in 1997. Their proof is indirect and rather difficult; it is based on generalized reproductive property of certain more general distributions. These authors remark that these results "seems to be very hard to obtain by usual analytic methods". In the first part of this paper we provide such proof…
For a power series which converges in some neighborhood of the origin in the complex plane, it turns out that the zeros of its partial sums---its sections---often behave in a controlled manner, producing intricate patterns as they converge and disperse. We open this thesis with an overview of some of the major results in the study of this phenomenon in the past century, focusing on recent developments which build on the theme of asymptotic analysis. Inspired by this work, we derive results concerning the asymptotic behavior of the zeros of partial sums of power series for entire functions defi…
