We investigate heavy quark symmetries for heavy light meson-antimeson systems in a contact-range effective field theory. In the SU(3) light flavor limit, the leading order Lagrangian respecting heavy quark spin symmetry contains four independent counter-terms. Neglecting $1/m_Q$ corrections, three of these low energy constants can be determ1ined by theorizing a molecular description of the $X(3872)$ and $Z_b(10610)$ states. Thus, we can predict new hadronic molecules, in particular the isovector charmonium partners of the $Z_b(10610)$ and the $Z_b(10650)$ states. We also discuss hadron molecules composed of a heavy meson and a doubly-heavy baryon, which would be related to the heavy meson-antimeson molecules thanks to the heavy antiquark-diquark symmetry. Finally, we also study the $X(3872) \to D^0\bar D^0π^0$ decay, which is not only sensitive to the short distance part of the $X(3872)$ molecular wave function, as the $J/ψππ$ and $J/\psi3π$ $X(3872)$ decay modes are, but it is also affected by the long-distance structure of the resonance. Furthermore, this decay might provide some information on the interaction between the $D\bar D$ charm mesons.
The impact of recent multi-loop calculations on precise determinations of charm- and bottom-quark masses and the strong coupling constant is discussed.
The implementation of the heavy quark spin symmetry in possible molecular states at the mixed bottom-charm threshold is somewhat different from that at the open charm or bottom thresholds. In particular it depends on two parameters describing separately the symmetry for the bottom and for charmed quarks. The corresponding spin structures of the $S$-wave molecular states of the meson pairs $B^{(*)} D^{(*)}$ are discussed as well as their consequences for properties of possible near-threshold resonances, analogs of the known charmonium-like and bottomonium-like $X$ and $Z$ states.
In this article, we perform a systematic study of the mass spectrum of the vector hidden charmed and bottomed tetraquark states using the QCD sum rules.
Expectations for the momentum distribution of nonperturbative charm and bottom quarks in the proton are derived from a variety of models for the Fock space wave function on the light cone.
With the negative sign for $\sqrt m_s$, the quarks strange, charm and bottom make a Koide tuple. It continues the c-b-t tuple previously found by Rodejohann and Zhang and, more peculiar, it is quasi-orthogonal to the original lepton triplet.
The masses of heavy quark baryons are studied in an expansion in 1/N_c, SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking, and heavy-quark symmetry breaking. Very accurate model-independent mass relations are obtained for charm and bottom baryons.
In this article, the three point QCD sum rules is used to compute the strong coupling constants of vertices containing the strange bottomed ( charmed ) mesons with pion. The coupling constants are calculated, when both the bottom ( charm ) and pion states are off-shell. A comparison of the obtained results of coupling constants with the existing predictions is also made. Key words: strong coupling constant, meson, QCD sum rules, bottom, charm.
We use the method of QCD Sum Rules to estimate the masses of the charm baryon, $Λ^+_c$, bottom baryon $Λ^0_b$, strange baryon $Λ^0_s$ and compare them to their experimental values.
We give the first estimate of charmless scalar meson emitting weak hadronic decays of 0 $\Lembda_{b}^{0}$, $Ξ_{b}^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}^{-}$ bottom baryons employing the pole model and consequently predict their branching ratios.
LHC predictions for the charm and bottom nuclear modification factors using pQCD and AdS/CFT drag energy loss models are given. We show that a new observable, the double ratio of charm to bottom nuclear modification factors, allows for easy experimental distinction between the two classes of energy loss models.
In this article, we perform a systematic study of the mass spectrum of the axial-vector hidden charmed and hidden bottom tetraquark states using the QCD sum rules, and identify the $Z^+(4430)$ as an axial-vector tetraquark state tentatively.
In this article, we study the mass spectrum of the scalar hidden charm and hidden bottom tetraquark states which consist of the axial-axial type and the vector-vector type diquark pairs with the QCD sum rules.
The cross sections for charm and bottom quark production in the threshold region are discussed. We consider the effects of an all order resummation of initial state soft-plus-virtual gluon radiation on the total cross sections compared to the order $α_s^3$ results.
We perform a field-theoretical study of possible deuteron-like molecules with both open charm and bottom, using the Heavy-Meson Effective Theory. In this approach, we analyze the parameter space of the coupling constants and discuss the formation of loosely-bound $D^{(*)} B^{(*)} $-states. We estimate their masses and other properties.
In this work, using the covariant light front approach with conventional vertex functions, we estimate the production rates of $D$-wave charmed/charmed-strange mesons via $B_{(s)}$ semileptonic decays. Due to these calculated considerable production rates, it is possible to experimentally search for $D$-wave charmed/charmed-strange mesons via the semileptonic decays, which may provide extra approach to explore $D$-wave charmed/charmed-strange mesons.
We update the experimental moments for the charm quark as computed in arXiv:hep-ph/0702103. and used in arXiv:0907.2110 and arXiv:1010.6157 for the determination of the charm-quark mass. The new value for the MSbar charm-quark mass reads mc(3GeV)=0.993+/-0.008 GeV.
We provide results for the open-flavor strong decays of open-charm ($D$ and $D_{\rm s}$) and open-bottom ($B$, $B_{\rm s}$ and $B_{\rm c}$) mesons. The decays are calculated in a modified version of the $^3P_0$ pair-creation model, assuming harmonic oscillator wave functions. The spectra of open-charm and open-bottom mesons used in the calculations are computed within Godfrey and Isgur's relativized quark model. Quantum number assignments are also provided. Our results are compared with the existing experimental data.
We estimate the strong coupling constants of charmed and bottom mesons $ D_{(s)}^* $, $ D_{(s)1} $, $ B_{(s)}^* $, and $ B_{(s)1} $ with light vector mesons $ ρ$, $ ω$, $ K^* $, and $ ϕ$ within the framework of light-cone QCD sum rules. We compare our estimations to the ones predicted by other approaches.
We discuss the renormalization and factorization scale dependence of charm and bottom production both at fixed-target energies and at present and future colliders. We investigate whether distributions calculable at leading order can be extrapolated to next-to-leading order by a constant multiplicative factor.
The results for observables of semileptonic decays of bottom and charm baryons (Isgur-Wise functions, decay rates, distributions, asymmetry parameters) are given within relativistic quark model. A comparison with recent experimental data (CLEO Collaboration) is made.
The meaning and the extraction of heavy quark masses are discussed. A simple production model is presented which incorporates the running of the heavy quark mass into perturbative calculations. The model offers the possibilities of (i) understanding the differing charmed mass values extracted from different experiments, (ii) determining the short--distance mass relevent to quark mass matrix and mixing angle studies, and (iii) determining the long--distance charm mass, which determines the charm quark threshold and sensitively affects the extraction of $\sin^2θ_w $. Threshold and forward angle …
The perturbative QCD fragmentation functions can be applied phenomenologically as a model for charm and bottom quark fragmentation into heavy-light mesons. The predictions by this model on the observables $P_V$ and $\langle z \rangle$ for $D-D^*$ and $B-B^*$ systems are compared with experimental data.
New data for the total cross section sigma(e^+e^- --> hadrons) in the charm and bottom threshold region are combined with an improved theoretical analysis, which includes recent four-loop calculations, to determine the short distance \bar{MS} charm and bottom quark masses. The final result for the \bar{MS}-masses, m_c(3 GeV)=0.986(13) GeV and m_b(10 GeV)=3.609(25) GeV is consistent with but significantly more precise than a similar previous study.
In this article, we study the mass spectrum of the scalar hidden charm and bottom tetraquark states with the QCD sum rules. The numerical results are compared with the corresponding ones from a relativistic quark model based on a quasipotential approach in QCD. The relevant values from the constituent diquark model based on the constituent diquark masses and the spin-spin interactions are also discussed.
Exclusive nonleptonic decays of bottom baryons to charm baryons and pseudoscalar light mesons are analyzed within a relativistic three-quark model. We include factorizing as well as nonfactorizing contributions to the decay amplitudes. The total contribution of the nonfactorizing diagrams amount up to 30% of the factorizing contributions in amplitude. We present detailed predictions for rates and asymmetry parameters.
The effects of the finite charm quark mass on bottom quark mass determinations from $Υ$ sum rules are examined in detail. The charm quark mass effects are calculated at next-to-next-to-leading order in the non-relativistic power counting for the $Υ$ sum rules and at order $α_s^3$ for the determination of the bottom MSbar mass. For the bottom 1S mass, which is extracted from the $Υ$ sum rules directly, we obtain $M_b^{1S}=4.69\pm 0.03$ GeV with negligible correlation to the value of the strong coupling. For the bottom MSbar mass we obtain $\bar M_b(\bar M_b) = 4.17\pm 0.05$ GeV taking $α_s^{(n_…
Two body nonleptonic weak decays of bottom mesons to a pseudoscalar meson and an axial-vector meson involving charmed states are studied using the non-relativistic quark model. We calculate the branching ratios of these decays by employing the factorization hypothesis. Obtained results are in good agreement with the existing experimental data. We also calculated the branching ratios in the light of heavy quark symmetry constraints and compared with the exiting theoretical analyses.
Distributions of charged leptons in semileptonic $Λ_c$ and $Λ_b$ decays can be used as spin analysers for the corresponding charm and bottom quarks. QCD corrections to the energy spectra of charged leptons have been given in the literature as well as the corrections to the angular dependence for polarised up-type quarks. The analogous formulae are derived also for polarised down-type quarks. These results are applied to the decays of polarised charm and bottom quarks. The corrections to the asymmetries are found to be small for charm decays. For bottom decays they exhibit a non-trivial depende…
In two recent papers, we used the hadro-quarkonium model to study the properties of hidden-charm and bottom tetraquarks and pentaquarks. Here, we extend the previous results and calculate the masses of heavy-quarkonium-kaon/hyperon systems. We also compute the spectrum of hidden-charm and bottom tetraquarks with strangeness in the compact tetraquark (diquark-antidiquark) model. If heavy-light exotic systems with non-null strangeness content were to be observed experimentally, it might be possible to distinguish among the large variety of available theoretical pictures for tetra- and pentaquark…
Electrons from semileptonic decays of heavy-flavor mesons (D and B) allow to study the energy loss of heavy-quarks in nuclear collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV at RHIC. Since pQCD calculations have shown that the crossing point where bottom decay electrons start to dominate over charm decay electrons is largely unknown, an urgent need arises to access the relative contributions independently. A correlation method is proposed to identify and separate charm and bottom production processes on a statistical basis through tagging of their decay electrons and open charmed mesons. The feasibility for t…
We compute the decoupling relations for the strong coupling, the light quark masses, the gauge-fixing parameter, and the light fields in QCD with heavy charm and bottom quarks to three-loop accuracy taking into account the exact dependence on $m_c/m_b$. The application of a low-energy theorem allows the extraction of the three-loop effective Higgs-gluon coupling valid for extensions of the Standard Model with additional heavy quarks from the decoupling constant of $α_s$.
I discuss advances in the determination of strange, charm, and bottom quark parton distribution functions obtained in the CTEQ6.5 and CTEQ6.6 global analyses. These results affect electroweak precision observables and certain new physics searches at the Large Hadron Collider. I focus, in particular, on high-energy implications of the consistent treatment of heavy-quark threshold effects in DIS in the general-mass factorization scheme; an independent parametrization for the strangeness PDF; and the possible presence of nonperturbative ("intrinsic") charm.
We present up-to-date QCD predictions for open charm and bottom production at RHIC in nucleon-nucleon collisions at \sqrt{S} = 200 GeV. The electron spectrum resulting from heavy flavor decays is also evaluated for direct comparison to the PHENIX and STAR data. These predictions seek to establish a rigorous benchmark, including the theoretical uncertainties, against which nuclear collision data can be compared to obtain evidence for nuclear effects.
The spectra of lepton pairs from correlated open charm and bottom decays in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions are calculated. Our approach includes energy loss effects of heavy quarks in deconfined matter which are determined by temperature and density of the expanding parton medium. We find a noticeable suppression of the initial transverse momentum spectrum of heavy quarks due to the energy loss at LHC conditions. Within the central rapidity covered by the ALICE detector system, the dominant contribution from bottom decays to the high invariant mass dielectron spectrum is predicted.
We use the Field Correlator Method in QCD to calculate the masses of $Σ_c$, $Ξ_c$ and recently observed $Σ_b$, $Ξ_b$ baryons and their orbital excitations.
The mass spectrum of S and P-wave mesons containing a single heavy quark has been computed using quenched lattice nonrelativistic QCD. Numerical results have been obtained at first, second and third order in the heavy quark expansion, so convergence can be discussed. The computed spectrum of charmed and bottom mesons is compared to existing model calculations and experimental data.
Recent theoretical and experimental improvements in the determination of charm and bottom quark masses are discussed. The final results, $m_c(3 \text{GeV})=986(13) $MeV and $m_b(m_b)=4163(16) $MeV represent, together with a closely related lattice determination $m_c(3 {\rm GeV})=986(10) $MeV, the presently most precise determinations of these two fundamental Standard Model parameters. A critical analysis of the theoretical and experimental uncertainties is presented.
We study the shift in the $Υ$ mass due to a non-zero charm quark mass. This shift affects the value of the $\bar{\rm MS}$ $b$-quark mass extracted from the $Υ$ system by about -20 MeV, due to an incomplete cancellation of terms that are non-analytic in the charm quark mass. The precise size of the shift depends on unknown higher order corrections, and might have a considerable uncertainty if they are large.
The relation of the thermal dilepton signal from deconfined matter, resulting in central ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, to the background yields from the Drell-Yan process and correlated semileptonic decays of open charm and bottom mesons is analyzed. We demonstrate that very stringent kinematical cuts offer a chance to identify the thermal signal in the continuum region.
Using new four-loop results for the heavy quark vacuum polarization and new data for bottom quark production in electron-positron annihilation, an update on the determination of charm- and bottom-quark masses through sum rules has been performed. The previous result for the charm-quark mass, $m_c(3 {\rm GeV})= 0.986(13) {\rm GeV}$, based on the lowest moment, is supported by the new results from higher moments which lead to consistent values with comparable errors. The new value for the bottom quark, $m_b(10 {\rm GeV})= 3.610(16) {\rm GeV}$, corresponding to $m_b(m_b)= 4.163(16) {\rm GeV}$, ma…
Parameters and light fields of the QCD Lagrangian with two heavy flavours, b and c, are related to those in the low-energy effective theory without these flavours, to three-loop accuracy taking into account the exact dependence on m_c/m_b. Similar relations for bilinear quark currents are also considered.
I discuss mechanisms of heavy quark production in (real) photon-nucleon and (real) photon - (real) photon collisions. In particular, I focuse on application of the Saturation Model. In addition to the main dipole-nucleon or dipole-dipole contribution included in recent analyses, I propose how to calculate within the same formalism the hadronic single-resolved contribution to heavy quark production. At high photon-photon energies this yields a sizeable correction of about 30-40 % for inclusive charm production and 15-20 % for bottom production.
We calculate threshold soft-gluon corrections to total cross sections and transverse momentum distributions for bottom and charm quark production in fixed-target experiments, considering both pp and pi- p interactions. We investigate the quality of the near threshold soft-gluon approximation at next-to-leading order (NLO) and calculate next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) corrections through next-to-next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic (NNNLL) accuracy, including some virtual terms. We find that the NNLO threshold corrections reduce the factorization and renormalization scale dependence of the …
In this paper the masses and decay processes of several new strange, charmed and bottomed exotic pentaquarks are predicted. Multiquarks are studied microscopically in a standard quark model. In pure ground-state pentaquarks the short-range interaction is computed and it is shown to be repulsive. The long-range and medium-range interactions are not expected to provide sufficient attraction. An additional quark-antiquark pair is then considered, and this is suggested to produce a narrow linear molecular system. The quarks assemble in three hadronic clusters, and the central hadron provides stabi…
We present the theoretical results on the forward Lambda_b production in pp collisions obtained within the soft QCD, namely the quark gluon string model, at LHC energies. It can give us useful information on the Regge trajectories of the (b{\bar b}) mesons. An opportunity to find the information on the intrinsic charm and bottom in the proton by analyzing the forward heavy flavour hadron production in pp collisions is discussed.
We study exotic mesons with double charm and bottom flavor, whose quark configuration is \bar{Q}\bar{Q}qq. This quark configuration has no annihilation process of quark and antiquark, and hence is a genuinely exotic states. We take a hadronic picture by considering the molecular states composed of a pair of heavy mesons, such as DD, DD* and D*D* for charm flavor, and BB, BB* and B*B* for bottom flavor. The interactions between heavy mesons are derived from the heavy quark effective theory. All molecular states are classified by I(J^P) quantum numbers, and are systematically studied up to the t…
Charm and bottom particles are rare in Extensive Air Showers but the effect of its presence can be radical in the development of the Extensive Air Showers (EAS). If such particles arise with a large fraction of the primary energy, they can reach large atmospheric depths, depositing its energy in deeper layers of the atmosphere. As a consequence, the EAS observables ($X_{max}$, $RMS$ and $N_{max}$) will be modified, as well as the shape of the longitudinal profile of the energy deposited in the atmosphere. In this paper, we will modify the CORSIKA Monte Carlo by the inclusion of charm and botto…
A finite-energy sum-rule is presented that allows for the use of combinations of both positive- and inverse-moment integration kernels. The freedom afforded from being able to employ this large class of integration kernels in our sum-rule is then exploited to obtain the values of the charm and bottom masses with minimum total uncertainty. We obtain as our final results m_c(3 GeV)=986(13) MeV and m_b(10 GeV)=3617(25) MeV, which are amongst the most precise values of these parameters obtained by any method.
We present the results of a study of the semileptonic decays of the $B_c$-meson and the lowest lying doubly heavy baryons using the relativistic quark model. We do not employ a heavy quark mass expansion but keep the masses of the heavy quarks and hadronss finite. We calculate all relevant form factors and decay rates.
In this work the charm and bottom quark masses are determined from QCD moment sum rules for the charmonium and upsilon systems. In our analysis we include both the results from non-relativistic QCD and perturbation theory at next-next-to-leading order. For the pole masses we obtain $M_c=1.75\pm 0.15$ GeV and $M_b=4.98\pm 0.125$ GeV. Using the potential-subtracted mass in intermediate steps of the calculation the MS-masses are determined to $m_c(m_c) = 1.19 \pm 0.11$ GeV and $m_b(m_b) = 4.24 \pm 0.10$ GeV.
We study the prospects to get information about the early and hot stages of deconfined matter produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions by analyzing dilepton and single-lepton spectra. Energy losses of heavy quarks in deconfined matter and thermalization effects in hadron matter and their influence on lepton spectra are considered.
We determine the charm and bottom quark masses using the N$^3$LO perturbative expression of the ground state (pseudoscalar) energy of the bottomonium, charmonium and $B_c$ systems: the $η_b$, $η_c$ and $B_c$ masses. We work in the renormalon subtracted scheme, which allows us to control the divergence of the perturbation series due to the pole mass renormalon. Our result for the $\overline{\rm MS}$ masses reads ${\overline m}_{c}({\overline m}_{c})=1223(33)$ MeV and ${\overline m}_{b}({\overline m}_{b})=4186(37)$ MeV. We also extract a value of $α_s$ from a renormalon-free combination of the $…
Hyperfine interactions in the light meson and baryon sectors are generalized to the charm and bottom systems. It is pointed out that an attempt to increase the value of the wave function at the origin to account for the unusual ratio of $Λ_{b}$ to the $B^0$ lifetimes could spoil the good agreement among the baryon and meson hyperfine mass-splitting. Including spin effects and taking phase space differences into account we predict that the decay rate of the $Λ_{b}$ can be increased relative to that of the $B^0$ meson by about 7%.
We calculate the branching ratio of a bottom hadron decaying into a charmed hadron and a charged $ρ$ meson within the QCD factorization approach. We consider the effect of the finite width correction of the $ρ$ meson. Our numerical calculation shows an obvious correction because of this effect. We find that the finite width effect of the $ρ$ meson reduces the branching ratios by about 9% to 11% for bottom meson decay channels: $B^+\to\bar{D^0}ρ^+$, $B^0\to D^-ρ^+$, and $B^0_s\to D^-_sρ^+$, and increases the branching ratio by about 10% for $Λ_b^0\toΛ_c^+ρ^-$.
In this work, we explore the ground state mass spectrum of the bottom-charm baryon states in the framework of the QCD sum rules in a comprehensive way. In calculations, we distinguish the contributions of the positive-parity and negative-parity baryon states unambiguously, and investigate the energy scale dependence of the QCD sum rules in details and observe that the acceptable energy scales are $μ=2.0\sim 2.8\,\rm{GeV}$, while the best energy scale is $μ=2.0\,\rm{GeV}$. The predictions can be confronted to the experimental data in the future and shed light on the QCD low energy dynamics.
In this work, we study the mass spectrum of the $Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ baryons up to the $N=2$ shell within a nonrelativistic constituent quark model (NRCQM). The model parameters are adopted from the determinations by fitting the charmonium and bottomonium spectra in our previous works. The masses of the $Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ baryon states predicted in present work reasonably agree with the results obtained with the Lattice QCD calculations. Furthermore, to provide more knowledge of the $Ω_{ccc}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ states, we evaluate their radiative decays with the available masses and wave fu…
We study inclusive heavy quark and exclusive heavy quark pair production in pp, pA and AA interactions. Intrinsic transverse momentum is introduced in pp interactions. Nuclear effects, limited to $k_T$ broadening and nuclear shadowing, are introduced in pA and AA interactions. The nuclear dependence is studied over a range of energies, both in fixed target and collider setups.
We study baryo-charmonium [$η_{\rm c}$- and $J/ψ$-$N^*$, $η_{\rm c}(2S)$-, $ψ(2S)$- and $χ_{\rm c}(1P)$-$N$] and baryo-bottomonium [$η_{\rm b}(2S)$-, $Υ(2S)$- and $χ_{\rm b}(1P)$-$N$] bound states, where $N$ is the nucleon and $N^*$ a nucleon resonance. In the baryo-quarkonium model, the five $qqq Q \bar Q$ quarks are arranged in terms of a heavy quarkonium core, $Q \bar Q$, embedded in light baryonic matter, $qqq$, with $q = u$ or $d$. The interaction between the $Q \bar Q$ core and the light baryon can be written in terms of the QCD multipole expansion. The spectrum of baryo-charmonium state…
In this paper we investigate an SU(3) extension of the chiral quark-meson model. The spectra of baryons with strangeness, charm and bottom are considered within a "rigid oscillator" version of this model. The similarity between the quark part of the Lagrangian in the model and the Wess-Zumino term in the Skyrme model is noted. The binding energies of baryonic systems with baryon number B=2 and 3 possessing strangeness or heavy flavor are estimated. The results obtained are in good qualitative agreement with those obtained previously in the topological soliton (Skyrme) model.
