The parametric ladder climbing (successive Landau-Zener-type transitions) and the quantum saturation of the threshold for the classical parametric autoresonance due to the zero point fluctuations at low temperatures are discussed. The probability for capture into the chirped parametric resonance is found by solving the Schrodinger equation in the energy basis and the associated resonant phase space dynamics is illustrated via the Wigner distribution. The numerical threshold for the efficient capture into the resonance is compared with the classical and quantum theories in different parameter regimes.
The two-photon ladder climbing (successive two-photon Landau-Zener-type transitions) in a chirped quantum nonlinear oscillator and its classical limit (subharmonic autoresonance) are discussed. An isomorphism between the chirped quantum-mechanical one and two-photon resonances in the system is used in calculating the threshold for the phase-locking transition in both the classical and quantum limits. The theory is tested by solving the Schrodinger equation in the energy basis and illustrated via the Wigner function in phase space.
Classical oscillators of sextic and octic anharmonicities are solved analytically up to the linear power of λ(Anharmonic Constant) by using Taylor series method. These solutions exhibit the presence of secular terms which are summed up for all orders. The frequency shifts of the oscillators for small anharmonic constants are obtained. It is found that the calculated shifts agree nicely with the available results to-date. The solutions for classical anharmonic oscillators are used to obtain the solutions corresponding to quantum anharmonic oscillators by imposing fundamental commutation relatio…
In this work, we obtained energy levels of one dimensional quartic anharmonic oscillator by using neural network system. Quartic anharmonic oscillator is a very important tool in quantum mechanics and also in quantum field theory. Our results are in good agreement in high accuracy with the reference studies.
A simple method for the calculation of higher orders of the logarithmic perturbation theory for bound states of the spherical anharmonic oscillator is developed. The structure of the perturbation series for energy eigenvalues of the sextic doubly anharmonic oscillator is investigated. The recursion technique for deriving renormalized perturbation expansions is offered.
We will describe how a new, quite simple, but highly effective algorithm, together with the asymptotically fast FFT-based high-precision number multiplication of Mathematica 4 can calculate the ground state of the x^4 anharmonic oscillator to the new record of more than 1000 digits.
The two-dimensional hydrogen with a linear potential in a magnetic field is solved by two different methods. Furthermore the connection between the model and an anharmonic oscillator had been investigated by methods of KS transformation.
The energy eigenvalues of the anharmonic oscillator characterized by the cubic potential for various eigenstates are determined within the framework of the hypervirial-Padé summation method. For this purpose the E[3,3] and E[3,4] Padé approximants are formed to the energy perturbation series and given the energy eigenvalues up to fourth order in terms of the anharmonicity parameter $λ$.
The paper introduces a simple quantum model to calculate in a general way allowed frequencies and energy levels of the anharmonic oscillator. The theoretical basis of the approach has been introduced in two early papers aimed to infer the properties of quantum systems exploiting the uncertainty principle only. For clarity the anharmonic oscillator is described having in mind the lattice oscillations of atoms/ions, yet quantum formalism of the model and approach have general character and can be extended to any oscillating system. The results show that the harmonic energy levels split into a co…
A new recursion procedure for deriving renormalized perturbation expansions for the one-dimensional anharmonic oscillator is offered. Based upon the $\hbar$-expansions and suitable quantization conditions, the recursion formulae obtained have the same simple form both for ground and excited states and can be easily applied to any renormalization scheme. As an example, the renormalized expansions for the sextic anharmonic oscillator are considered.
We examine a generalized script{PT}-Symmetric quartic anharmonic oscillator model to determine the various physical variables perturbatively in powers of a small quantity ε. We make use of the Bender-Dunne operator basis elements and exploit the properties of the totally symmetric operator T_{m,n}.
Anharmonic oscillators with the sextic and decatic potentials are studied employing the refinable interpolating scale functions. This method yields highly accurate values of both energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for the sextic and decatic oscillator without constraining the potential parameters. Convergence of the solutions in the present method is noticed to be very fast.
The explicit semiclassical treatment of the logarithmic perturbation theory for the bound-state problem for the spherical anharmonic oscillator is developed. Based upon the $\hbar$-expansions and suitable quantization conditions a new procedure for deriving perturbation expansions is offered. Avoiding disadvantages of the standard approach, new handy recursion formulae with the same simple form both for ground and excited states have been obtained. As an example, the perturbation expansions for the energy eigenvalues of the quartic anharmonic oscillator are considered.
A mixed supersymmetric-algebraic approach to construction of the minimum uncertainty coherent states of anharmonic oscillators is presented. It permits generating not only the well-known coherent states of the harmonic and Morse oscillators but also the so far unknown coherent states of the Wei Hua, Kratzer-Fues and generalized Morse and Kratzer-Fues oscillators. The method can be applied also to generate superpotentials indispensable for deriving the Schrödinger equation in the supersymmetric form amenable to direct solution in the SUSYQM scheme.
For a system of coupled anharmonic oscillators we compare the convergence rate of the variational collocation approach presented recently by Amore and Fernandez (2010 Phys.Scr.81 045011) with the one obtained using the optimized Rayleigh-Ritz (RR) method. The monotonic convergence of the RR method allows us to obtain more accurate results at a lower computational cost.
The determination of the eigenenergies of a quantum anharmonic oscillator consists merely in finding the zeros of a function of the energy, namely the Wronskian of two solutions of the Schroedinger equation which are regular respectively at the origin and at infinity. We show in this paper how to evaluate that Wronskian exactly, except for numerical rounding errors. The procedure is illustrated by application to the gx2+x2N (N a positive integer) oscillator.
This paper illustrates the application of group theory to a quantum-mechanical three-dimensional quartic anharmonic oscillator with $O_{h}$ symmetry. It is shown that group theory predicts the degeneracy of the energy levels and facilitates the application of perturbation theory and the Rayleigh-Ritz variational method as well as the interpretation of the results in terms of the symmetry of the solutions . We show how to obtain suitable symmetry-adapted basis sets.
The aim of this paper is twofold. First of all, we study the behaviour of the lowest eigenvalues of the quantum anharmonic oscillator under influence of an external field. We try to understand this behaviour using perturbation theory and compare the results with numerical calculations. This brings us to the second aim of selecting the best method to carry out the numerical calculations accurately.
Utilizing an appropriate ansatz to the wave function, we reproduce the exact bound-state solutions of the radial Schrodinger equation to various exactly solvable sextic anharmonic oscillator and confining perturbed Coulomb models in $D$-dimensions. We show that the perturbed Coulomb problem with eigenvalue $E$ can be transformed to a sextic anharmonic oscillator problem with eigenvalue E. We also check the explicit relevance of these two related problems in higher-space dimensions. It is shown that exact solutions of these potentials exist when their coupling parameters with $k=D+2\ell $ appea…
A new pseudoperturbative (artificial in nature) methodical proposal [15] is used to solve for Schrodinger equation with a class of phenomenologically useful and methodically challenging anharmonice oscillator potentials V(q)=α_o q^2 + αq^4. The effect of the [4,5] Pade' approximant on the leading eigenenergy term is studied. Comparison with results from numerical (exact) and several eligible (approximation) methods is made.
We have applied a collocation approach to obtain the numerical solution to the stationary Schrödinger equation for systems of coupled oscillators. The dependence of the discretized Hamiltonian on scale and angle parameters is exploited to obtain optimal convergence to the exact results. A careful comparison with results taken from the literature is performed, showing the advantages of the present approach.
A mapping is obtained relating radial screened Coulomb systems with low screening parameters to radial anharmonic oscillators in N-dimensional space. Using the formalism of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, it is shown that exact solutions of these potentials exist when the parameters satisfy certain constraints.
We find a one-parameter Gaussian state for an anharmonic oscillator with quadratic and quartic terms, which depends on the energy expectation value. For the weak coupling constant, the Gaussian state is a squeezed state of the vacuum state. However, for the strong coupling constant, the Gaussian state represents a different kind of condensation of bosonic particles through a nonlinear Bogoliubov transformation of the vacuum state.
We measure the state dynamics of a tunable anharmonic quantum system, the Josephson phase circuit, under the excitation of a frequency-chirped drive. At small anharmonicity, the state evolves like a wavepacket - a characteristic response in classical oscillators; in this regime we report exponentially enhanced lifetimes of highly excited states, held by the drive. At large anharmonicity, we observe sharp steps, corresponding to the excitation of discrete energy levels. The continuous transition between the two regimes is mapped by measuring the threshold of these two effects.
The application of the optimized expansion for the quantum-mechanical propagation in the anharmonic potential $λx^4$ is discussed for real and imaginary time. The first order results in the imaginary time formalism provide approximations to the free energy and particle density which agree well with the exact results in the whole range of temperatures.
We have developed a simple method to solve anharmonic oscillators equations. The idea of our method is mainly based on the partitioning of the potential curve into (n+1) small intervals, solving the Schrödinger equation in each subintervals, and writing the continuity conditions of each solutions at each subintervals boundary, which leads to the energy quantification condition, so to the energy levels, and finally, one can calculate the exact wave function associated to each energy level. Our method has been applied to three examples: the well-known square well, the bounded and unbounded harmo…
Unique set of coherent states for the anharmonic oscillator is obtained by requiring i. under the quantum mechanical time evolution a coherent state evolves into another, governed by trajectory in the classical phase space (of a related hamiltonian); ii. the resolution of identity involves exactly the classical phase space measure. The rules are invariant under unitary transformations of the quantum theory and canonical transformations of the classical theory. The states are almost, but not quite, minimal uncertainty wave packets. The construction can be generalized to quantum versions of integ…
In this paper we analyze a recent application of perturbation theory by the moment method to a family of two-dimensional anharmonic oscillators. By means of straightforward unitary transformations we show that two of the models studied by the authors are separable. Other is unbounded from below and therefore cannot be successfully treated by perturbation theory unless a complex harmonic frequency is introduced in the renormalization process. We calculate the lowest resonance by means of complex-coordinate rotation and compare its real part with the eigenvalue estimated by the authors. A pair o…
The dynamics of a quantum anharmonic oscillator whose position is monitored by a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) trapped in a symmetric double well potential is studied. The (non-exponential) decoherence induced on the oscillator by the measuring device is analysed. A detailed quasiclassical and quantum analysis is presented. In the first case, for an arbitrary initial coherent state, two different decoherence regimes are observed: An initial Gaussian decay followed by a power law decay for longer times. The characteristic time scales of both regimes are reported. Analytical approximated expres…
For the model of a linearly driven quantum anharmonic oscillator, the role of damping is investigated. We compare the position of the stable points in phase space obtained from a classical analysis to the result of a quantum mechanical analysis. The solution of the full master equation shows that the stable points behave qualitatively similar to the classical solution but with small modifications. Both the quantum effects and additional effects of temperature can be described by renormalizing the damping.
Dunkl derivative enriches solutions by discussing parity due to its reflection operator. Very recently, one of the authors of this manuscript presented one of the most general forms of Dunkl derivative that depends on three Wigner parameters to have a better tuning. In this manuscript, we employ the latter generalized Dunkl derivative in a relativistic equation to examine two-dimensional harmonic and anharmonic oscillators solutions. We obtain the solutions by Nikiforov-Uvarov and QES methods, respectively. We show that degenerate states can occur according to the Wigner parameter values.
We present a way of measuring with high precision the anharmonicity of a quantum oscillator coupled to an optical field via radiation pressure. Our protocol uses a sequence of pulsed interactions to perform a loop in the phase space of the mechanical oscillator, which is prepared in a thermal state. We show how the optical field acquires a phase depending on the anharmonicity. Remarkably, one only needs small initial cooling of the mechanical motion to probe even small anharmonicities. Finally, by applying tools from quantum estimation theory, we calculate the ultimate bound on the estimation …
We solve analytically master equations that describe a cavity filled with a kerr medium, taking into account the dissipation induced by the environment, and parametric down conversion processes. We use superoperator techniques.
The behaviour of the interaction of the induced electric dipole moment of an atom with a uniform magnetic field and a non-uniform electric field are investigated in a rotating reference frame. An interesting aspect of this interaction is that it gives rise to an analogue of a spinless particle subject to the doubly anharmonic oscillator. Then, it is shown that analytical solutions to the Schrödinger equation can be obtained. Another point raised is that the quantum effects on the induced electric dipole moment can be observed if the uniform magnetic field possesses a discrete set of values.
A very simple procedure to calculate eigenenergies of quantum anharmonic oscillators is presented. The method, exact but for numerical computations, consists merely in requiring the vanishing of the Wronskian of two solutions which are regular respectively at the origin and at infinity. The first one can be represented by its series expansion; for the second one, an asymptotic expansion is available. The procedure is illustrated by application to quartic and sextic oscillators.
We consider a single anharmonic oscillator with frequency $ω$ and coupling constant $λ$ respectively, in the strong-coupling regime. We are assuming that the system is in thermal equilibrium with a reservoir at temperature $β^{-1}$. Using the strong-coupling perturbative expansion, we obtain the partition function for the oscillator in the regime $λ>>ω$, up to the order $\frac{1}{\sqrtλ}$. To obtain this result, we use of a combination of Klauder's independent-value generating functional (Acta Phys. Austr. {\bf 41}, 237 (1975)), and the generalized zeta-function method. The free energy and the…
We make an extensive rigorous study on convergent behaviour of Morse-Feshbach nonlinear perturbation series (MFNPS) to find out energy levels of the anharmonic oscillator (AHO) in both weak and strong coupling limit. We develop a new method of multi step optimal splitting in order to get convergency in MFNPS for ground state of AHO and found that two step optimal splitting is sufficient to provide convergency in MFNPS. Unlike the ground state the optimal splitting parameters for excited states is modified according to their dependency on state in order to achieve convergency in MFNPS.
We investigate the quantum entanglement dynamics of undriven anharmonic (nonlinear) oscillators with quartic potentials. We first consider the indirect interaction between two such nonlinear oscillators mediated by a third, linear oscillator and show that it leads to a time-varying entanglement of the oscillators, the entanglement being strongly influenced by the nonlinear oscillator dynamics. In the presence of dissipation, the role of nonlinearity is strongly manifested in the steady state dynamics of the indirectly coupled anharmonic oscillators. We further illustrate the effect of nonlinea…
The new perturbation theory for the problem of nonstationary anharmonic oscillator with polynomial nonstationary perturbation is proposed. As a zero order approximation the exact wave function of harmonic oscillator with variable frequency in external field is used. Based on some intrinsic properties of unperturbed wave function the variational-iterational method is proposed, that make it possible to correct both the amplitude and the phase of wave function. As an application the first order correction are proposed both for wave function and S-matrix elements for asymmetric perturbation potent…
We revisit the problem posed by an anharmonic oscillator with a potential given by a polynomial function of the coordinate of degree six that depends on a parameter $λ$. The ground state can be obtained exactly and its energy $E_{0}=1$ is independent of $λ$. This solution is valid only for $λ>0$ because the eigenfunction is not square integrable otherwise. Here we show that the perturbation series for the expectation values are Padé and Borel-Padé summable for $λ>0$. When $% λ<0$ the spectrum exhibits an infinite number of avoided crossings at each of which the eigenfunctions undergo dramatic …
We present the general solutions for the classical and quantum dynamics of the anharmonic oscillator coupled to a purely diffusive environment. In both cases, these solutions are obtained by the application of the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff (BCH) formulas to expand the evolution operator in an ordered product of exponentials. Moreover, we obtain an expression for the Wigner function in the quantum version of the problem. We observe that the role played by diffusion is to reduce or to attenuate the the characteristic quantum effects yielded by the nonlinearity, as the appearance of coherent super…
The large-N expansion technique is tested via an anomalous, soft-core potential which admits the tunneling through its central barrier. The precision of the approximation is found sensitive to the asymptotic component of the interaction. Once chosen in the most common harmonic-oscillator form, and once complemented by the short range part represented by the general power-law anharmonicity $\sim |x|^α$, we found that the latter power-law spike may be well approximated by an elementary logarithmic function, in the limit of the smallest $α\to 0$ at least. In such a model, the large-N method is fo…
A novel general approximation scheme (NGAS) proposed earlier (ref.2-3) is applied to the problem of the quartic anharmonic (QAHO) and the double-well-oscillator (QDWO) in quantum theory by choosing the infinite square-well-potential in one dimension as the input approximation. The leading order (LO) results obtained for the energy eigen-values are uniformly accurate to within a few percent of the exact results for $arbitrary$ values of the quartic coupling: $λ> 0$ and the level-index $n_s$. These results are shown to be non-perturbative in the LO and reproduce the known analytic and scaling pr…
Classical and quantum-mechanical phase locking transition in a nonlinear oscillator driven by a chirped frequency perturbation is discussed. Different limits are analyzed in terms of the dimensionless parameters $% P_{1}=ε/\sqrt{2m\hbar ω_{0}α}$ and $P_{2}=(3\hbar β)/(4m\sqrtα)$ ($ε,$ $α,$ $β$ and $ω_{0}$ being the driving amplitude, the frequency chirp rate, the nonlinearity parameter and the linear frequency of the oscillator). It is shown that for $P_{2}\ll P_{1}+1$, the passage through the linear resonance for $P_{1}$ above a threshold yields classical autoresonance (AR) in the system, eve…
An anharmonic oscillator when driven with a fast, frequency chirped voltage pulse can oscillate with either small or large amplitude depending on whether the drive voltage is below or above a critical value-a well studied classical phenomenon known as autoresonance. Using a 6 GHz superconducting resonator embedded with a Josephson tunnel junction, we have studied for the first time the role of noise in this non-equilibrium system and find that the width of the threshold for capture into autoresonance decreases as the square root of T, and saturates below 150 mK due to zero point motion of the …
As an application of a recently developed variational perturbation theory we find the first 22 terms of the convergent strong-coupling series expansion for the ground state energy of the quartic anharmonic oscillator.
We study the synchronization of a van der Pol self-oscillator with Kerr anharmonicity to an external drive. We demonstrate that the anharmonic, discrete energy spectrum of the quantum oscillator leads to multiple resonances in both phase locking and frequency entrainment not present in the corresponding classical system. Strong driving close to these resonances leads to nonclassical steady-state Wigner distributions. Experimental realizations of these genuine quantum signatures can be implemented with current technology.
We prove a powerful scaling property for the extremality condition in the recently developed variational perturbation theory which converts divergent perturbation expansions into exponentially fast convergent ones. The proof is given for the energy eigenvalues of an anharmonic oscillator with an arbitrary $x^p$-potential. The scaling property greatly increases the accuracy of the results.
We analyse the one dimensional quartic oscillator using the effective operator methodology of Lee and Suzuki. We reproduce known results for low lying energy eigenvalues.
It is proved that the divergent Rayleigh-Schrodinger perturbation expansions for the eigenvalues of any odd anharmonic oscillator are Borel summable in the distributional sense to the resonances naturally associated with the system.
We consider an elastic medium with the distortion of a circular curve into a vertical spiral, and investigate the influence of this topological defect on the doubly anharmonic oscillator. We show that the Schrödinger equation for the doubly anharmonic oscillator in the presence of this linear topological defect can be solved analytically. We also obtain the exact expressions for the permitted energies of the ground state of the doubly anharmonic oscillator, and show that the topology of the screw dislocation modifies the spectrum of energy of the doubly anharmonic oscillator.
In this paper, we show the detail of our recent paper Effects of cosmic-string framework on the thermodynamical properties of an anharmonic oscillator using the ordinary statistics and the q-deformed superstatistics approaches published in the Eur. Phys. J. C. Actually, we prepare this comment against the comment prepared by Francisco A. Cruz Neto and Luis B. Castro [arXiv:1804.03012].
Motivated by studies of ultimate speed of computers, we examine the question of minimum time of orthogonalization in a simple anharmonic oscillator and find an upper bound on the rate of computations. Furthermore, we investigate the growth rate of complexity of operation when the system undergoes a definite perturbation. At the phase space of the parameters, by numerical analysis, we find the critical point where beyond that the rate of complexity changes its behavior.
We obtain sufficiently accurate eigenvalues and eigenfunctions for the anharmonic oscillator with potential $V(x,y)=x^{2}y^{2}$ by means of three different methods. Our results strongly suggest that the spectrum of this oscillator is discrete in agreement with early rigorous mathematical proofs and against a recent statement that cast doubts about it.
We construct a W^*-dynamical system describing the dynamics of a class of anharmonic quantum oscillator lattice systems in the thermodynamic limit. Our approach is based on recently proved Lieb-Robinson bounds for such systems on finite lattices.
It is already known that the quantum quartic single-well anharmonic oscillator $V_{ao}(x)=x^2+g^2 x^4$ and double-well anharmonic oscillator $V_{dw}(x)= x^2(1 - gx)^2$ are essentially one-parametric, their eigenstates depend on a combination $(g^2 \hbar)$. Hence, these problems are reduced to study the potentials $V_{ao}=u^2+u^4$ and $V_{dw}=u^2(1-u)^2$, respectively. It is shown that by taking uniformly-accurate approximation for anharmonic oscillator eigenfunction $Ψ_{ao}(u)$, obtained recently, see JPA 54 (2021) 295204 [1] and Arxiv 2102.04623 [2], and then forming the function $Ψ_{dw}(u)=Ψ…
