We review the emergence and fate of goldstinos in different frameworks. First, we consider a super-Higgs mechanism when supersymmetry breaking is induced by neither an F-term nor a D-term but related to a more general stress energy-momentum tensor. This allows us to build a novel Lagrangian that describes the propagation of a spin-3/2 state in a fluid. Then we briefly review the ubiquitous pseudo-goldstinos when breaking supersymmetry in an extra dimension. We remind that the fermion (gravitino or gaugino) soft masses can be tuned to be of Dirac-type. Finally, we briefly connect the latter to the study of models with Dirac-type gaugino masses and stress the advantage of having both an F and a D-term sizable contributions for the hierarchies of soft-terms as well as for minimizing R-symmetry breaking.
We consider theories with spontaneously broken global or local supersymmetry where the pseudo-goldstino or the gravitino is the lightest superparticle (LSP). Assuming that the long-lived next-to-lightest superparticle (NSP) is a charged slepton, we study several supergravity predictions: the NSP lifetime, angular and energy distributions in 3-body NSP decays. The characteristic couplings of the gravitino, or goldstino, can be tested even for very small masses.
We construct the low-energy effective lagrangian for a light gravitino coupled to the minimal supersymmetric standard model under the assumption that supersymmetry breaking is communicated to the observable sector dominantly through soft terms. Our effective lagrangian is written in terms of the spin-1/2 Goldstino (the longitudinal component of the gravitino) transforming under a non-linear realization of supersymmetry. In this lagrangian, the Goldstino is derivatively coupled and all couplings of the Goldstino to light fields are determined uniquely by the supersymmetry-breaking scale \sqrt{F…
We identify the goldstino fields that give mass to the Kaluza Klein modes of five dimensional supergravity, when supersymmetry breaking is induced by brane effects. We then proof the four dimensional Equivalence Theorem that, in renormalizable gauges, allows for the replacement of Kaluza Klein modes of helicity $\pm1/2$ gravitinos in terms of goldstinos. Finally we identify the five dimensional renormalizable gauge fixing that leads to the Equivalence Theorem.
Fortran subroutines to calculate helicity amplitudes with goldstinos, which appear as the longitudinal modes of massive gravitinos in high energy processes, are added to the HELAS (HELicity Amplitude Subroutines) library. They are coded in such a way that arbitrary amplitudes with external goldstinos can be generated automatically by MadGraph, after slight modifications. All the codes have been tested carefully by making use of the goldstino equivalence theorem and the gauge invariance of the helicity amplitudes. Hadronic total cross sections for associated gravitino productions with a gluino …
In models of spontaneously broken supersymmetry, certain light gravitino processes are governed by the coupling of its Goldstino components. The rules for constructing SUSY and gauge invariant actions involving the Goldstino couplings to matter and gauge fields are presented. The explicit operator construction is found to be at variance with some previously reported claims. A phenomenological consequence arising from light gravitino interactions in supernova is reexamined and scrutinized.
We show that for gaugino mediated supersymmetry breaking the gravitino mass is bounded from below. For a size of the compact dimensions of order the unification scale and a cutoff given by the higher-dimensional Planck mass, we find $m_{3/2} \gtrsim 10 GeV$. In a large domain of parameter space, the gravitino is the lightest superparticle with a scalar $\tildeτ$-lepton as the next-to-lightest superparticle.
We present a complete description of a new physical model with goldstino supermultiplet for CompHEP software package. The model contains MSSM content supplemented by three new fields: {\it goldstino} -- two component spinor, scalar {\it sgoldstino} and pseudoscalar {\it sgoldstino}. To the leading order in 1/F, where F is the parameter of supersymmetry breaking, and to zero order in MSSM gauge and Yukawa coupling constants, the interactions between the component fields of goldstino supermultiplet and MSSM fields are derived. They correspond to the most attractive for collider studies processes…
The multi-sector SUSY breaking predicts the existence of pseudo-goldstino, which could couple more strongly to visible fields than ordinary gravitino. Then the lightest neutralino and chargino can decay into a pseudo-goldstino plus a Z-boson, Higgs boson or W-boson. In this note we perform a Monte Carlo simulation for the direct productions of the lightest neutralino and chargino followed by the decays to pseudo-goldstino. Considering scenarios with higgsino-like, bino-like or wino-like lightest neutralino, we find that the signal-to-background ratio at the high luminosity LHC is between 6% an…
The spinor helicity formalism (SHF) has been efficiently applied to compute perturbative amplitudes in plenty of processes and reactions in gauge theories (including gravity), mostly in the massless case. Some work has been done in order to extend the SHF to the massive case. We have used these powerful tools to evaluate amplitudes in a local supersymmetric model where the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). Two decays have been evaluated in order to show the capability of the SHF in the massive extension, namely the two body neutralino decays $\tildeχ_0\to V\tildeΨ^μ$ wit…
We develop the formal tools needed to construct helicity amplitudes for massive gravitino in N=1 SUGRA. We start by considering the helicity states for massive spin-3/2 particles, which involves the solutions of Rarita-Schwinger equation. These solutions are written in terms of the helicity bra-ket notation and are used then to derive the interactions of gravitino with matter and gauge supermultiplets within N=1 Supergravity. The corresponding interactions of goldstinos are discussed too, relying on the goldstino-gravitino equivalence theorem. Finally to appreciate the power of our methods we …
We consider the impact of Catalyzed Big Bang Nucleosynthesis on theories with a gravitino LSP and a charged slepton NLSP. In models where the gravitino to gaugino mass ratio is bounded from below, such as gaugino-mediated SUSY breaking, we derive a lower bound on the gaugino mass parameter m_1/2. As a concrete example, we determine the parameter space of gaugino mediation that is compatible with all cosmological constraints.
If the lightest observable-sector supersymmetric particle (LOSP) is charged and long-lived, then it may be possible to indirectly measure the Planck mass at the LHC and provide a spectacular confirmation of supergravity as a symmetry of nature. Unfortunately, this proposal is only feasible if the gravitino is heavy enough to be measured at colliders, and this condition is in direct conflict with constraints from big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). In this work, we show that the BBN bound can be naturally evaded in the presence of multiple sectors which independently break supersymmetry, since ther…
We show that the nonlinear supersymmetric effective lagrangian can be used for model-independent parameterization of the light gravitino scattering amplitude at energies up to and above the soft supersymmetry-breaking masses. This provides the most convenient framework for systematic studies of goldstino phenomenology both at low energies and in high energy colliders.
If the gravitino is sufficiently light and stable it will behave as an effective massless neutrino species at the time of nucleosynthesis. Depending on the temperature at which it decouples from the thermal bath in the early universe, the gravitino mass will be bounded by the primordial $^4$He abundance. Assuming a conservative estimate that the number of neutrino families, $N_ν< 3.6$, superlight gravitinos with a mass $m_{3/2} \lesssim 10^{-6}$eV are ruled out. This bound is weaker than previous estimates because the Goldstino annihilation cross section was overestimated.
We study gaugino-mediated supersymmetry breaking in a six-dimensional SO(10) orbifold GUT model where quarks and leptons are mixtures of brane and bulk fields. The couplings of bulk matter fields to the supersymmetry breaking brane field have to be suppressed in order to avoid large FCNCs. We derive bounds on the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters and calculate the superparticle mass spectrum. If the gravitino is the LSP, the stau_1 or the tau sneutrino turns out to be the NLSP, with characteristic signatures at future colliders and in cosmology.
A general coupling of the Goldstino to the matter field and the weak gravitational field is constructed based on the standard and the nonlinear Volkov-Akulov realization of SUSY. The resulting Lagrangian, which is invariant under SUSY transformations, can give rise to explicit interactions which couple the helicity +-1/2 states of the gravitino with the gravitational field as well as the matter field.
The N=1 supergravity coupled to chiral and Yang-Mills superfields is regarded as the ultraviolet theory of the supersymmetric Standard Model. The gravitino acquires a mass from the hidden sector and participate in mediating supersymmetry breaking to the visible sector. We consider the quantum effects of the gravitino and evaluate its contribution to the gaugino masses at one loop level, which turns out to be irrespective of the SM gauge couplings. Due to the universality of gravitino, its contribution to the gaugino masses can significantly modify the gaugino mass relations of other supersymme…
Supersymmetry breakdown via gaugino condensation in heterotic string theory can lead to models with a doubly suppressed gravitino mass. A TeV scale gravitino can emerge from a condensate as large as the grand unified scale. We analyze the properties of these models and discuss applications for particle physics and cosmology.
The production and the final abundance of gravitino dark matter appear to depend crucially on the restoration of the global U(1) $R$-symmetry of GMSB sectors in a threefold way. An $R$-symmetric phase effectively suppresses the production of goldstinos from scatterings with the supersymmetric Standard Model particles and it generically initiates the goldstino production from the thermalized messenger particles. In addition, the GMSB spurion gets displaced from the zero temperature minimum and under certain conditions it dominates the energy density of the universe producing late entropy. We sh…
The hidden SU(5)' with one family, 10 and 5-bar, breaks supersymmetry dynamically. From the effective Lagrangian approach, we estimate the hidden sector gaugino candensation scale, the dilaton stabilization and the resulting gravitino mass. In some models, this gravitino mass can be smaller than the previous naive estimate. Then, it is possible to raise the SU(5)' confining scale above 10^{13} GeV.
We analyze a direct-transmission model of dynamical SUSY breaking previously proposed. In the model the gravitino mass is naturally smaller than $1~\KEV$, which is required from the standard cosmology. We find that there are many distinguishable features from in other models: for example the so-called GUT relation among the gaugino masses does not hold even if we consider the GUT models. Furthermore, the gauginos are always lighter than the sfermions since the gaugino masses have extra suppression factors. We also discuss a collider signature ``$γγ+$ missing energy'' in the present model.
We study dark matter for gaugino-mediated supersymmetry breaking and compact dimensions of order the grand unification scale. Higgs fields are bulk fields, and in general their masses differ from those of squarks and sleptons at the unification scale. As a consequence, at different points in parameter space, the gravitino, a neutralino or a scalar lepton can be the lightest (LSP) or next-to-lightest (NLSP) superparticle. We investigate the constraints from primordial nucleosynthesis on the different scenarios. While neutralino and gravitino dark matter with a sneutrino NLSP are consistent for …
We study light gravitino productions in association with a neutralino at future linear colliders in a scenario in which the lightest SUSY particle is a gravitino and the produced neutralino promptly decays into a photon and a gravitino. Comparing with the multiple goldstino scenario, we show that energy and angular distributions of the photon provide valuable information on the SUSY masses as well as the SUSY breaking.
It has been claimed that Dirac gaugino masses are necessary for realistic models of low-scale supersymmetry breaking, and yet very little attention has been paid to the phenomenology of a light gravitino when gauginos have Dirac masses. We begin to address this deficit by investigating the couplings and phenomenology of the gravitino in the effective Lagrangian approach. We pay particular attention to the phenomenology of the scalar octets, where new decay channels open up. This leads us to propose a new simplified effective scenario including only light gluinos, sgluons and gravitinos, allowi…
The goldstino-matter interactions given by the Goldberger-Treiman relations can receive higher dimensional operator corrections of $ O(q^{2}/M^{2})$, where $M$ denotes the mass of the mediators through which SUSY breaking is transmitted. These corrections in the gauge mediated SUSY breaking models arise from loop diagrams, and an explicit calculation of such corrections is presented. It is emphasized that the Goldberger-Treiman vertices are valid only below the mediator scale and at higher energies goldstinos decouple from the MSSM fields. The implication of this fact on gravitino cosmology in…
If the gravitino is light and all the other supersymmetric particles are heavy, we can consider the effective theory describing the interactions of its goldstino components with ordinary matter. To discuss the model-dependence of these interactions, we take the simple case of spontaneously broken supersymmetry and only two chiral superfields, associated with the goldstino and a massless matter fermion. We derive the four-point effective coupling involving two matter fermions and two goldstinos, by explicit integration of the heavy spin-0 degrees of freedom in the low-energy limit. Surprisingly…
We construct the minimal effective field theory (EFT) of supersymmetric inflation, whose field content is a real scalar, the goldstone for time-translation breaking, and a Weyl fermion, the goldstino for supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking. The inflating background can be viewed as a single SUSY-breaking sector, and the degrees of freedom can be efficiently parameterized using constrained superfields. Our EFT is comprised of a chiral superfield X_NL containing the goldstino and satisfying X_NL^2 = 0, and a real superfield B_NL containing both the goldstino and the goldstone, satisfying X_NL B_NL = B…
Anomaly mediation is a ubiquitous source of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking which appears in almost every theory of supergravity. In this paper, we show that anomaly mediation really consists of two physically distinct phenomena, which we dub "gravitino mediation" and "Kahler mediation". Gravitino mediation arises from minimally uplifting SUSY anti-de Sitter (AdS) space to Minkowski space, generating soft masses proportional to the gravitino mass. Kahler mediation arises when visible sector fields have linear couplings to SUSY breaking in the Kahler potential, generating soft masses proportional…
We interpret the di-photon excess recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations as a new resonance arising from the sgoldstino scalar, which is the superpartner of the Goldstone mode of spontaneous supersymmetry breaking, the goldstino. The sgoldstino is produced at the LHC via gluon fusion and decays to photons, with interaction strengths proportional to the corresponding gaugino masses over the supersymmetry breaking scale. Fitting the excess, while evading bounds from searches in the di-jet, $Zγ$, $ZZ$ and $WW$ final states, selects the supersymmetry breaking scale to be a few TeV, …
We review some recent results on the effective interactions of a light gravitino with ordinary particles. In particular, we discuss on a simple example a novel aspect of the low-energy theorems for broken supersymmetry: in the effective lagrangian describing the goldstino couplings to matter, there are terms bilinear in the goldstino that, already at the lowest non-trivial order, are not entirely controlled by the supersymmetry-breaking scale, and introduce additional free parameters. We conclude by mentioning some phenomenological implications, including a lower bound on the gravitino mass fr…
We review our results on the calculation of helicity 1/2 gravitino production during preheating. The method we present is based on the equivalence between goldstinos and longitudinal gravitinos at high energies. The problem is thus reduced to the standard (Majorana) fermion production after inflation. Comparison between helicity 3/2 and 1/2 production and with the results obtained in the unitary gauge is also presented.
We investigate the collider signatures of the multiple goldstini scenario in the framework of gauge mediation. This class of models is characterized by a visible sector (e.g. the MSSM or any extension) coupled by gauge interactions to more than one SUSY breaking sector. The spectrum consists of a light gravitino LSP, behaving as a goldstino, and a number of neutral fermions (the pseudo-goldstini) with a mass between that of the LSP and that of the lightest particle of the observable sector (LOSP). We consider the two situations where the LOSP is either a gaugino-like neutralino or a stau and w…
We consider a space-time with extra dimensions containing sectors, branes and bulk, that communicate only through gravitational interactions. In each sector, if considered separately, supersymmetry could be spontaneously broken, leading to the appearance of Goldstinos. However, when taken all together, only certain combinations of the latter states turn out to be true ``would be Goldstinos'', eaten by the gravitinos. The other (orthogonal) combinations, we call pseudo-Goldstinos, remain in the low energy spectrum. We discuss explicitly how this happen in the simplest set-up of five-dimensional…
In supergravity models with low supersymmetry breaking scale the gravitinos can be superlight with mass in the micro-eV to keV range. In such a case, gravitino emission provides a new cooling mechanism for protoneutron stars and therefore can provide constraints on the mass of the superlight gravitino. This happens because the coupling to matter of superlight gravitinos is dominated by its goldstino component, whose coupling to matter is inversely proportional to the scale of supersymmetry breaking and increases as the gravitino mass decreases. Present observations therefore provide lower limi…
We show that the process $e^+e^- \to γ+$ missing energy, arising from the pair production of neutralinos, can probe the $γ-\tildeγ- \gravitino$ as well as the $Z-\tilde Z-\gravitino$ couplings in Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking models. This enables one to study the mutual relationship of the Goldstino couplings of the different gauginos, a feature whose testability has not been emphasized so far. The Standard Model backgrounds get suppresed with the use of a right polarized electron beam. The energy and angular distribution of the emitted photon can distinguish such models from the minim…
We construct the Supersymmetric Effective Field Theory of Inflation, that is the most general theory of inflationary fluctuations when time-translations and supersymmetry are spontaneously broken. The non-linear realization of these invariances allows us to define a complete SUGRA multiplet containing the graviton, the gravitino, the Goldstone of time translations and the Goldstino, with no auxiliary fields. Going to a unitary gauge where only the graviton and the gravitino are present, we write the most general Lagrangian built out of the fluctuations of these fields, invariant under time-dep…
We obtain the joint distribution of the gravitino mass and the cosmological constant in KKLT and LVS models with anti-D3 brane uplifting described via the nilpotent goldstino formalism. Moduli stabilisation (of both complex structure and Kaehler moduli) is incorporated so that we sample only over points corresponding to vacua. Our key inputs are the distributions of the flux superpotential, the string coupling and the hierarchies of warped throats. In the limit of zero cosmological constant, we find that both in KKLT and LVS the distributions are tilted favourably towards lower scales of super…
Flat directions in supersymmetric models can get large vacuum expectation values in the early Universe which leads to a large mass for gauge bosons and gauginos. We point out that this can then result in enhanced gravitino production because the cross-section for the production of the +/- 1/2 helicity states of the gravitino is proportional to the square of the gaugino masses. We consider gravitino production after inflation in such a scenario and find that the abundance in some cases can be much larger than the upper bound on the gravtino abundance from cosmological constraints unless the fla…
We study general conditions for the gravitino to be the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in models with gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking. We find that the decisive quantities are the Kaehler potential K and the gauge kinetic function f. In constrained MSSM (CMSSM) type models, the gravitino LSP occurs if the gaugino mass at the GUT scale is greater than approximately 2.5 gravitino masses. This translates into \sqrt{K"}/f' < 0.2, where the derivatives are taken with respect to the dominant SUSY breaking field. This requirement can easily be satisfied in string-motivated setups.
Supersymmetric (SUSY) extension of the Standard Model (SM) is a primary candidate for new physics beyond the SM. If SUSY breaking scale is very low, for example, the multi-TeV range, and the SUSY breaking sector, except for the goldstino (gravitino), is decoupled from the low energy spectrum, the hidden sector effect in the minimal SUSY SM (MSSM) is well described by employing the goldstino chiral superfield ($X$) with the nilpotent condition of $X^2=0$. Although this so-called "nonlinear MSSM" (NL-MSSM) provides a variety of interesting phenomenologies, there is a cosmological problem that th…
We reconsider post-inflation gravitino production, in the context of hidden sector supergravity models. We discuss the possible role of supersymmetry breaking from finite temperature effects in enhancing the rate for gravitino production and argue that there is no such enhancement. Our conclusion is based on a simple decoupling argument, which is independent of temperature. We also characterize the properties of goldstino-like hydrodynamic fluctuations that arise in supersymmetric models at finite temperature. We show that they cannot lead to enhanced gravitino emission via infrared divergence…
Pseudo-goldstinos appear in the scenario of multi-sector SUSY breaking. Unlike the true goldstino which is massless and absorbed by the gravitino, pseudo-goldstinos could obtain mass from radiative effects. In this note, working in the scenario of two-sector SUSY breaking with gauge mediation, we explicitly calculate the pseudo-goldstino mass at the leading three-loop level and provide the analytical results. In our calculation we consider the general case of messenger masses (not necessarily equal) and include the higher order terms of SUSY breaking scales. Our results can reproduce the numer…
By using a string-inspired modular invariant supergravity, which was proved well to explain WMAP observations appropriately, a mechanism of supersymmetry breaking (SSB) and Gravitino Production just after the end of inflation are investigated. Supersymmetry is broken mainly by F-term of the inflaton superfield and the Goldstino is identified to be inflatino in this model, which fact is shown numerically. By using the canonically normalized and diagonalized scalars, the decay rates of these fields are calculated, for both the $T$ and $Y$ into gravitinos. Non-thermal production of gravitinos is …
The absence of supersymmetric particles at the weak scale is a puzzle if supersymmetry solves the gauge hierarchy problem. We show that, if the right-handed neutrino masses arise from hidden gaugino condensation via GUT-suppressed operators, successful thermal leptogenesis leads to the lower bound on the gravitino mass, which may explain the little hierarchy problem. If domain walls associated with the gaugino condensation are formed after inflation, they annihilate when $H \sim m_{3/2}$. We address the possibility that observable gravitational wave signals might emerge from the domain wall an…
Gaugino mediation is an attractive supersymmetry breaking scheme naturally avoiding flavor problems by suppressing the soft sfermion masses at a high-energy scale. We consider an extension of the original model which yields non-vanishing trilinear scalar couplings. This increases the viable parameter space predicting a sufficiently large Higgs mass. Assuming the gravitino to be the lightest superparticle, we consider additional constraints from direct searches at the LHC, finding allowed points with a neutralino, sneutrino or stau next-to-lightest superparticle.
We consider a gaugino-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario where in addition to the gauginos the Higgs fields couple directly to the field that breaks supersymmetry. This yields non-vanishing trilinear scalar couplings in general, which can lead to large mixing in the stop sector providing a sufficiently large Higgs mass. Using the most recent release of FeynHiggs, we show the implications on the parameter space. Assuming a gravitino LSP, we find allowed points with a neutralino, sneutrino or stau NLSP. We test these points against the results of Run 1 of the LHC, considering in particular…
Gravitinos can inherit a non-relativistic dispersion relation while propagating in a background breaking both supersymmetry and Lorentz symmetry spontaneously. This is because the longitudinal mode velocity is controlled by the sound speed in the background. It was pointed out recently by Kolb, Long and McDonough that the production of gravitinos might diverge when this sound speed vanishes. We argue that in the framework of cosmological models with linearly spontaneously broken realised supersymmetry, where the physical fermions are combinations of the vacuum goldstino and the inflatino, the …
The effect of spin-0 goldstino superpartners is considered on the nucleosynthesis bounds arising when a superlight gravitino appears as an effective massless neutrino species. When the scalar and pseudoscalar superpartners are relativistic they will decouple at much later times than the goldstino and consequently will be the dominant effect when obtaining a nucleosynthesis bound on the scale of supersymmetry breaking. Assuming that the scalar and pseudoscalar fields decouple at a temperature no later than O(100) MeV, then typically the scale of supersymmetry breaking \sqrt{F} > 60 TeV. This co…
A new modified string-inspired modular invariant supergravity model is proposed and is applied to realize the slow roll inflation in Einstein frame. Because inflation deals with Planck scale physics, the dilaton can be a strong candidate for identification with the inflaton. The model we used, cleared the $η$-problem and negative energy problem of potential at stable point, and appeared to predict successfully the values of observations at the inflation era. We proved that the model explains WMAP observations appropriately. Moreover, a mechanism of SSB and Gravitino production just after the e…
Supersymmetric collider phenomenology depends crucially on whether the lightest observable-sector supersymmetric particle (LOSP) decays, and if so, what the LOSP decay products are. For instance, in SUSY models where the gravitino is lighter than the LOSP, the LOSP decays to its superpartner and a longitudinal gravitino via supercurrent couplings. In this paper, we show that LOSP decays can be substantially modified when there are multiple sectors that break supersymmetry, where in addition to the gravitino there are light uneaten goldstini. As a particularly striking example, a bino-like LOSP…
In supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model with a very light gravitino, the effective theory at the weak scale should contain not only the goldstino, but also its supersymmetric partners, the sgoldstinos. In the simplest case, the goldstino is a gauge-singlet and its superpartners are two neutral spin-0 particles, S and P. We study possible signals of massive sgoldstinos at hadron colliders, focusing on those that are most relevant for the Tevatron. We show that inclusive production of sgoldstinos, followed by their decay into two photons, can lead to observable signals or to stringent…
We consider five dimensional supersymmetric warped scenarios in which the Standard Model quark and lepton fields are localized on the ultraviolet brane, while the Standard Model gauge fields propagate in the bulk. Supersymmetry is assumed to be broken on the infrared brane. The relative sizes of supersymmetry breaking effects are found to depend on the hierarchy between the infrared scale and the weak scale. If the infrared scale is much larger than the weak scale the leading supersymmetry breaking effect on the visible brane is given by gaugino mediation. The gaugino masses at the weak scale …
In supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model with a very light gravitino, the effective theory at the weak scale should contain not only the goldstino G, but also its supersymmetric partners, the sgoldstinos. In the simplest case, the goldstino is a gauge-singlet and its superpartners are two neutral spin-0 particles, S and P. We study possible signals of massive sgoldstinos at e+e- colliders, focusing on those that are most relevant at LEP energies. We show that the LEP constraints on e+e- => photon+S (photon+P), Z+S (Z+P) or e+e-S (e+e-P), followed by S (P) decaying into two gluon jets…
We compute the $2\rightarrow 2$ gravitino scattering amplitudes at tree level in supergravity theories where supersymmetry is spontaneously broken. In the unitary gauge, the gravitino becomes massive (of mass $m_{3/2}$) by absorbing the Goldstino, and the scattering amplitudes of its longitudinal polarisations grow with energy as $κ^2 E^4/m_{3/2}^2$, signaling a potential breakdown of unitarity at a scale $Λ^2\sim m_{3/2}/κ\sim M_{\mathrm{SUSY}}^2$. As we show explicitly in the Polonyi model, this leading term is cancelled by the contributions coming from the scalar partner of the Goldstino (s…
We study a singlet extension of the minimal $U(1)_R$ symmetric model, which shares nice properties of Dirac gauginos and $R$-symmetric Higgs sector. At the same time, a superpotential coupling of $R$-charged singlet to the Higgs doublets can give a substantial contribution to the Higgs boson mass. We show that the 125 GeV Higgs boson is consistent with perturbative unification, even if the SUSY scale is as low as 1 TeV and if the $D$-term Higgs potential is suppressed as is often the case in Dirac gauginos. The model also contains a light scalar and fermion, pseudo-moduli and pseudo-Goldstino:…
Gaugino AMSB models-- wherein scalar and trilinear soft SUSY breaking terms are suppressed at the GUT scale while gaugino masses adopt the AMSB form-- yield a characteristic SUSY particle mass spectrum with light sleptons along with a nearly degenerate wino-like lightest neutralino and quasi-stable chargino. The left- sleptons and sneutrinos can be pair produced at sufficiently high rates to yield observable signals at the Fermilab Tevatron. We calculate the rate for isolated single and dilepton plus missing energy signals, along with the presence of one or two highly ionizing chargino tracks.…
We demonstrate that the lightest chargino can be lighter than the lightest neutralino in supersymmetric models with Dirac gaugino masses as well as within a curious parameter region of the MSSM. Given also a light gravitino, such as from low scale supersymmetry breaking, this mass hierarchy leads to an unusual signal where every superpartner cascades down to a chargino that decays into an on-shell W and a gravitino, possibly with a macroscopic chargino track. We clearly identify the region of parameters where this signal can occur. We find it is generic in the context of the R-symmetric supers…
We study the 'goldstini' scenario of Cheung, Nomura, and Thaler, in which multiple independent supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking sectors lead to multiple would-be goldstinos, changing collider and cosmological phenomenology. In supergravity, potentially large corrections to the previous prediction of twice the gravitino mass for goldstini masses can arise when their scalar partners are stabilized far from the origin. Considerations arising from the complexity of realistic string compactifications indicate that many of the independent SUSY-breaking sectors should be conformally sequestered or situa…
We consider inflation and supersymmetry breaking in the context of a minimal model of supersymmetry in which the only "low" energy remnant of supersymmetry is the gravitino with a mass of order an EeV. In this theory, the supersymmetry breaking scale is above the inflaton mass, m ~ 3 x 10^{13} GeV, as are all sfermion and gaugino masses. In particular, for a no-scale formulation of Starobinsky-like inflation using the volume modulus T, we show that inflation can be accommodated even when the supersymmetry breaking scale is very large. Reheating is driven through a gravitational coupling to the…
The physics of moduli fields is examined in the scenario where the gravitino is relatively heavy with mass of order 10 TeV, which is favored in view of the severe gravitino problem. The form of the moduli superpotential is shown to be determined, if one imposes a phenomenological requirement that no physical CP phase arise in gaugino masses from conformal anomaly mediation. This bottom-up approach allows only two types of superpotential, each of which can have its origins in a fundamental underlying theory such as superstring. One superpotential is the sum of an exponential and a constant, whi…
