By using a string-inspired modular invariant supergravity, which was proved well to explain WMAP observations appropriately, a mechanism of supersymmetry breaking (SSB) and Gravitino Production just after the end of inflation are investigated. Supersymmetry is broken mainly by F-term of the inflaton superfield and the Goldstino is identified to be inflatino in this model, which fact is shown numerically. By using the canonically normalized and diagonalized scalars, the decay rates of these fields are calculated, for both the $T$ and $Y$ into gravitinos. Non-thermal production of gravitinos is not generated from the inflaton (dilaton), since the inflaton mass is lighter than gravitino, but they are produced by the decay of modular field $T$ and scalar field $Y$. Because the reheating temperature $T_R$ is about order $\sim O(10^{10})$ GeV and the mass of gravitino is $3.16 \times 10^{12}$ GeV, it is not reproduced after the reheating of the universe. The gravitinos are produced almost instantly just after the end of inflation through $Y$ and $T$, not from inflaton. Because the decay time appears very rapid, gravitinos disappear before the BBN stage of the universe. The effects of the lightest supersymmetric particles (LSP) produced by gravitinos may be important to investigate more carefully, if the LSP's are the candidate of dark matter.
We review the phenomenology of gravitino dark matter within supergravity framework. Gravitino can be dark matter if it is the lightest supersymmetric particle, which is stable if R-parity is conserved. There are several distinct scenarios depending on what the next to lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) is. We discuss the constraints and summarize the phenomenology of neutralino, stau, stop and sneutrino NLSPs.
We have recently shown that, if the inflaton has a nonzero vacuum expectation value, it generically couples to any matter fields that appear in the superpotential at the tree level, and to any gauge sectors through anomalies in the supergravity. Through these processes, the inflaton decays into the supersymmetry breaking sector, producing many gravitinos. The inflaton also directly decays into a pair of the gravitinos. Taking account of these processes, we derive constraints on both inflation models and supersymmetry breaking scenarios for avoiding overproduction of the gravitinos.
We develop the formal tools needed to construct helicity amplitudes for massive gravitino in N=1 SUGRA. We start by considering the helicity states for massive spin-3/2 particles, which involves the solutions of Rarita-Schwinger equation. These solutions are written in terms of the helicity bra-ket notation and are used then to derive the interactions of gravitino with matter and gauge supermultiplets within N=1 Supergravity. The corresponding interactions of goldstinos are discussed too, relying on the goldstino-gravitino equivalence theorem. Finally to appreciate the power of our methods we …
Gravitinos and hidden sector fields often cause a cosmological disaster in supersymmetric models. We find that a model with gravitational gauge mediation solves such a problem quite naturally. The mu-problem is also absent in the model. Moreover, the abundance of gravitinos explains correct amount of dark matter of the universe. The dark matter abundance can be calculated without detailed information on the thermal history of the universe such as the reheating temperature after inflation.
We investigate the superWIMP scenario in the framework of supersymmetry, in which the lightest supersymmetric particle is a stable gravitino. We consider slepton, sneutrino or neutralino being the next-lightest supersymmetric particle, and determine what superpartner masses are viable, applying cosmic-microwave background and electromagnetic and hadronic Big-Bang Nucleosythesis constraints.
We study the cosmological gravitino production in gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models, while properly taking into account the existence of the messenger mass scale. It is found that for sizable parameter range of the model the messenger sector contribution leads to more stringent upper bound on the reheat temperature obtained from the condition that the universe should not be overclosed by relic gravitinos. However it turns out that in the limit of relatively low messenger scale and large gravitino mass, the relic gravitino mass density can be smaller than the critical density indepen…
We show that the gravitino contribution to (g-2)_μ is finite in many popular supergravity models, including no-scale supergravity and string and M-theory models. This contribution is greatly enhanced for very light gravitino masses, and leads to new upper bounds on the ratio of the smuon to the gravitino mass.
We consider inflation and supersymmetry breaking in the context of a minimal model of supersymmetry in which the only "low" energy remnant of supersymmetry is the gravitino with a mass of order an EeV. In this theory, the supersymmetry breaking scale is above the inflaton mass, m ~ 3 x 10^{13} GeV, as are all sfermion and gaugino masses. In particular, for a no-scale formulation of Starobinsky-like inflation using the volume modulus T, we show that inflation can be accommodated even when the supersymmetry breaking scale is very large. Reheating is driven through a gravitational coupling to the…
By using a No-Scale Supergravity model, which was proved to explain WMAP observations appropriately, a mechanism of supersymmetry breaking and a preheating just after the end of inflation are investigated. Non-thermal production rate of gravitino is estimated as well as supersymmetry breaking mechanism numerically. The supersymmetry breaking is triggered by the inflaton superfield alone and the interchange of supersymmetry breaking fields does not occur in our model. By the instant preheating mechanism, the preheating temperature is calculated through the process where the inflaton decays into…
A new modified string-inspired modular invariant supergravity model is proposed and is applied to realize the slow roll inflation in Einstein frame, so that the model explains WMAP observations very well. Gravitino mass and their production rate from scalar fields are estimated at certain values of parameters in the model. Seven cases of parameter choices are discussed here, among which some examples show the possibility of observation of gauginos by LHC experiments, which will give some hints of identity of dark matters. The reheating temperature, which is estimated by the stability condition…
We show that the process $e^+e^- \to γ+$ missing energy, arising from the pair production of neutralinos, can probe the $γ-\tildeγ- \gravitino$ as well as the $Z-\tilde Z-\gravitino$ couplings in Gauge Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking models. This enables one to study the mutual relationship of the Goldstino couplings of the different gauginos, a feature whose testability has not been emphasized so far. The Standard Model backgrounds get suppresed with the use of a right polarized electron beam. The energy and angular distribution of the emitted photon can distinguish such models from the minim…
We investigate the cosmological gravitino problem in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models, where the gravitino becomes in general the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). In order to avoid the overclosure of the stable gravitino, the reheating temperature of inflation $T_R$ should be low enough. Furthermore, if the gravitino mass is larger than about 100 MeV, the decay of the next-to-LSP (NLSP) into the gravitino may modify disastrously the abundances of the light elements predicted by the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We consider the case in which the lighter stau is the NLSP and…
We discuss two cosmological issues in a generic gauge-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY)-breaking model, namely the Universe's baryon asymmetry and the gravitino dark-matter density. We show that both problems can be simultaneously solved if there exist extra matter multiplets of a SUSY-invariant mass of the order of the ``$μ$-term'', as suggested in several realistic SUSY grand-unified theories. We propose an attractive scenario in which the observed baryon asymmetry is produced in a way totally independent of the reheating temperature of inflation without causing any cosmological gravitino proble…
In split-supersymmetry (split-SUSY), gluino is a metastable particle and thus can freeze out in the early universe. The late decay of such a long-life gluino into the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) may provide much of the cosmic dark matter content. In this work, assuming the LSP is gravitino produced from the late decay of the metastable gluino, we examine the WMAP dark matter constraints on the gluino mass. We find that to provide the full abundance of dark matter, the gluino must be heavier than about 14 TeV and thus not accessible at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
We study the solution to the Polonyi problem where the Polonyi field weighs as $O(10{\rm TeV})$ and decays just before the primordial nucleosynthesis. It is shown that in spite of a large entropy production by the Polonyi field decay, one can naturally explain the present value of the baryon-to-entropy ratio, $n_B/s \sim (10^{-10}-10^{-11})$ if the Affleck-Dine mechanism for baryogenesis works. It is pointed out, however, that there is another cosmological problem related to the abundance of the lightest superparticles produced by the Polonyi decay.
We demonstrate that the lightest chargino can be lighter than the lightest neutralino in supersymmetric models with Dirac gaugino masses as well as within a curious parameter region of the MSSM. Given also a light gravitino, such as from low scale supersymmetry breaking, this mass hierarchy leads to an unusual signal where every superpartner cascades down to a chargino that decays into an on-shell W and a gravitino, possibly with a macroscopic chargino track. We clearly identify the region of parameters where this signal can occur. We find it is generic in the context of the R-symmetric supers…
Motivated by recent studies of supersymmetry in higher-dimensional spaces, we discuss the experimental signatures of a superlight gravitino, mass < 0.001 eV. We concentrate on the process (e- gamma -> selectronR gravitino) as a probe of supersymmetry, where a single heavy superpartner and a superlight gravitino are produced. The fact that there is only one heavy superpartner in the final state in this process would require a lower center-of-mass energy for on-shell production compared to conventional pair production. For instance, for a 500 GeV machine, we find that a positive signal will be f…
We propose the hybrid gravity-gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking where the gravitino mass is about several GeV. The strong constraints on supersymmetry viable parameter space from the CMS and ATLAS experiments at the LHC can be relaxed due to the heavy colored supersymmetric particles, and it is consistent with null results in the dark matter (DM) direct search experiments such as XENON100. In particular, the possible maximal flavor and CP violations from the relatively small gravity mediation may naturally account for the recent LHCb anomaly. In addition, because the gravitino mass is arou…
We analyze a direct-transmission model of dynamical SUSY breaking previously proposed. In the model the gravitino mass is naturally smaller than $1~\KEV$, which is required from the standard cosmology. We find that there are many distinguishable features from in other models: for example the so-called GUT relation among the gaugino masses does not hold even if we consider the GUT models. Furthermore, the gauginos are always lighter than the sfermions since the gaugino masses have extra suppression factors. We also discuss a collider signature ``$γγ+$ missing energy'' in the present model.
In the context of a conformal Supergravity (SUGRA) model in the Einstein frame, in which the (next to) minimal supersymmetric standard model can embedded naturally to produce chaotic inflation scenarios, we study properties of gravitino in the cases where it is stable or unstable. In the latter case, we demonstrate that for large dilaton scale factors there is an enhanced magnitude of the gravitino width, when it decays to neutralino dark matter, as compared with the standard SUGRA case. In this context, we discuss the associated consequences as far as Big Bang Nucleosynthesis constraints and …
We construct the low-energy effective lagrangian for a light gravitino coupled to the minimal supersymmetric standard model under the assumption that supersymmetry breaking is communicated to the observable sector dominantly through soft terms. Our effective lagrangian is written in terms of the spin-1/2 Goldstino (the longitudinal component of the gravitino) transforming under a non-linear realization of supersymmetry. In this lagrangian, the Goldstino is derivatively coupled and all couplings of the Goldstino to light fields are determined uniquely by the supersymmetry-breaking scale \sqrt{F…
We study non-thermal gravitino production in the minimal supergravity inflation. In this minimal model utilizing orthogonal nilpotent superfields, the particle spectrum includes only graviton, gravitino, inflaton, and goldstino. We find that a substantial fraction of the cosmic energy density can be transferred to the longitudinal gravitino due to non-trivial change of its sound speed. This implies either a breakdown of the effective theory during reheating or a serious gravitino problem.
We propose a consistent scenario of the evolution of the universe based on the large cutoff supergravity (LCSUGRA) hypothesis of supersymmetry breaking, where the gravitino and sfermion become as heavy a $\sim O(1-10 {\rm TeV})$. With such a heavy gravitino, baryon asymmetry of the universe can be generated by the non-thermal leptogenesis via an inflaton decay without conflicting the serious gravitino problem. We also see that, in the LCSUGRA scenario, relic density of the lightest superparticle becomes consistent with the WMAP value of the dark matter density in the parameter region required …
Gravitinos are generically produced by inflaton decays, which place tight constraints on inflation models as well as supersymmetry breaking scale. We revisit the gravitino production from decays of the inflaton and the supersymmetry breaking field, based on a chaotic inflation model suggested by the recent BICEP2 result. We study cosmological constraints on thermally and non-thermally produced gravitinos for a wide range of the gravitino mass, and show that there are only three allowed regions of the gravitino mass: $m_{3/2}\lesssim 16$eV, $m_{3/2}\simeq 10$--$1000$TeV and $m_{3/2}\gtrsim 10^{…
We present a realistic supergravity inflation model which is free from the overproduction of potentially dangerous relics in cosmology, namely moduli and gravitinos which can lead to the inconsistencies with the predictions of baryon asymmetry and nucleosynthesis. The radiative correction turns out to play a crucial role in our analysis which raises the mass of supersymmetry breaking field to intermediate scale. We pay a particular attention to the non-thermal production of gravitinos using the non-minimal Kahler potential we obtained from loop correction. This non-thermal gravitino production…
We utilize a recently proposed cubic nilpotent superfield to realize inflation in supergravity with the minimal degrees of freedom: the inflaton, graviton, and massive gravitino. As an advantage, the resultant model is free from the catastrophic production of gravitinos due to its vanishing propagation speed. However, the model suffers from the standard gravitino problem, and its viability depends on the mass spectrum and the thermal history of the universe.
The success of primordial nucleosynthesis imposes stringent bounds on the abundance of gravitational relics. This is particularly true for gravitinos, which - for models with gravitationally mediated supersymmetry breaking - are expected to have a mass below the TeV scale and thus to decay only after nucleosynthesis has concluded. We discuss the nonthermal production of gravitinos in models with several chiral fields, to be able to distinguish the mechanisms of supersymmetry breaking and inflation. Our explicit calculations show that the superpartner of the inflaton can be significantly genera…
In Split-SUSY with BRpV we show that the Gravitino DM solution is consistent with experimental evidence on its relic density and life time. We arrive at this conclusion by performing a complete numerical and algebraic study of the parameter space, including constraints from the recently determined Higgs mass, updated neutrino physics, and BBN constraints on NLSP decays. The Higgs mass requires a relatively low Split-SUSY mass scale, which is naturally smaller than usual values for reheating temperature, allowing the use of the standard expression for the relic density. We include restrictions …
Partial Split Supersymmetry with bilinear R-parity violation allows to reproduce all neutrino mass and mixing parameters. The viable dark matter candidate in this model is the gravitino. We study the hypothesis that both possibilities are true: Partial Split Supersymmetry explains neutrino physics and that dark matter is actually composed of gravitinos. Since the gravitino has a small but non-zero decay probability, its decay products could be observed in astrophysical experiments. Combining bounds from astrophysical photon spectra with the bounds coming from the mass matrix in the neutrino se…
We study gaugino-mediated supersymmetry breaking in a six-dimensional SO(10) orbifold GUT model where quarks and leptons are mixtures of brane and bulk fields. The couplings of bulk matter fields to the supersymmetry breaking brane field have to be suppressed in order to avoid large FCNCs. We derive bounds on the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters and calculate the superparticle mass spectrum. If the gravitino is the LSP, the stau_1 or the tau sneutrino turns out to be the NLSP, with characteristic signatures at future colliders and in cosmology.
We reconsider post-inflation gravitino production, in the context of hidden sector supergravity models. We discuss the possible role of supersymmetry breaking from finite temperature effects in enhancing the rate for gravitino production and argue that there is no such enhancement. Our conclusion is based on a simple decoupling argument, which is independent of temperature. We also characterize the properties of goldstino-like hydrodynamic fluctuations that arise in supersymmetric models at finite temperature. We show that they cannot lead to enhanced gravitino emission via infrared divergence…
We point out that, in a class of gauge mediation models using metastable supersymmetry breaking vacua, the minimum of the supersymmetry breaking field in the early universe is dynamically deviated from the one in the low energy. The deviation induces coherent oscillations of the supersymmetry breaking field, which decays into the gravitinos. For certain parameters, it can produce a right amount of the gravitinos to account for the observed dark matter.
We consider compactifications induced by the gravitino field of eleven dimensional supergravity. Such compactifications are not trivial in the sense that the gravitino profiles are not related to pure bosonic ones by means of a supersymmetry transformation. The basic property of such backgrounds is that they admit $ψ$-torsion although they have vanishing Riemann tensor. Thus, these backgrounds may be considered also as solutions of the teleparallel formulation of supergravity. We construct two classes of solutions, one with both antisymmetric three-form field, gravity and gravitino and one wit…
We identify the goldstino fields that give mass to the Kaluza Klein modes of five dimensional supergravity, when supersymmetry breaking is induced by brane effects. We then proof the four dimensional Equivalence Theorem that, in renormalizable gauges, allows for the replacement of Kaluza Klein modes of helicity $\pm1/2$ gravitinos in terms of goldstinos. Finally we identify the five dimensional renormalizable gauge fixing that leads to the Equivalence Theorem.
It has been claimed that Dirac gaugino masses are necessary for realistic models of low-scale supersymmetry breaking, and yet very little attention has been paid to the phenomenology of a light gravitino when gauginos have Dirac masses. We begin to address this deficit by investigating the couplings and phenomenology of the gravitino in the effective Lagrangian approach. We pay particular attention to the phenomenology of the scalar octets, where new decay channels open up. This leads us to propose a new simplified effective scenario including only light gluinos, sgluons and gravitinos, allowi…
Supergravity embedding of the Standard Model of particle physics provides phenomenologically well-motivated and observationally viable inflationary scenarios. We investigate a class of inflationary models based on the superconformal framework of supergravity and discuss constraints from the reheating temperature, with the particular focus on the gravitino problem inherent in these scenarios. We point out that a large part of the parameter space within the latest BICEP/Keck 95\% confidence contour may have been excluded by the gravitino constraints, depending on the mass scale of the inflaton. …
We discuss the emergence of an inflationary phase in supergravity with the super-Higgs effect due to dynamical spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry, in which the role of the inflaton is played by the gravitino condensate. Realistic models compatible with the Planck satellite CMB data are found in conformal supergravity scenarios with dynamical gravitino masses that are small compared to the Planck mass, as could be induced by a non-trivial vacuum expectation value of the dilaton superfield of appropriate magnitude.
Gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking scenarios with an ultra-light gravitino of mass m_{3/2}=1-10 eV are very interesting, since there is no cosmological gravitino problem. We propose a new experimental determination of the gravitino mass for such an ultra-light gravitino, by measuring a branching ratio of two decay modes of sleptons.
We investigate supergravity models in which the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is a stable gravitino. We assume that the next-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) freezes out with its thermal relic density before decaying to the gravitino at time t ~ 10^4 s - 10^8 s. In contrast to studies that assume a fixed gravitino relic density, the thermal relic density assumption implies upper, not lower, bounds on superpartner masses, with important implications for particle colliders. We consider slepton, sneutrino, and neutralino NLSPs, and determine what superpartner masses are viable in …
We point out that there is no cosmological gravitino problem in a certain class of gauge-mediated supersymmetry-breaking (GMSB) models. The constant term in the superpotential naturally causes small mixings between the standard-model and messenger fields, which give rise to late-time decays of the lightest messenger fields. This decay provides an exquisite amount of entropy, which dilutes the thermal relics of the gravitinos down to just the observed mass density of the dark matter. This remarkable phenomenon takes place naturally, irrespective of the gravitino mass and the reheating temperatu…
We study the phenomenology of generic supergravity models in which gravity mediation naturally competes with gauge mediation as the origin of supergravity-breaking. This class of hybrid models has been recently motivated in string inspired constructions and differs from usual gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models in having messenger masses of order of the GUT scale. In these scenarios the gravitino can be the lightest supersymmetric particle in wide regions of the parameter space and therefore a potential candidate for dark matter. We investigate this possibility, imposing the WMAP boun…
We discuss gravitino production from reheating in models where the splitting between particle and sparticle masses can be larger than TeV, as naturally arising in the context of split supersymmetry. We show that such a production typically dominates over thermal contributions arising from the interactions of gauginos, squarks and sleptons. We constrain the supersymmetry breaking scale of the relevant sector for a given reheat temperature. However the situation changes when the gravitinos dominate the Universe and decay before nucleosynthesis. We briefly describe prospects for a successful bary…
We discuss the highlights of recent developments in no-scale supergravity and flipped SU(5), especially in the context of a very light gravitino scenario that may explain the puzzling CDF e+e+gamma+gamma+E_T,miss event. We update the status of both subjects and discuss the impact of the latest experimental constraints from LEP and the Tevatron. We also comment on a new form of cold dark matter that may solve this phenomenological `problem' of light gravitino models. [Lecture presented by D. V. Nanopoulos at the 34th International School of Subnuclear Physics "Effective theories and fundamental…
Electroweak precision measurements can provide indirect information about the possible scale of supersymmetry already at the present level of accuracy. We review present day sensitivities of precision data in mSUGRA-type models with the gravitino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). The chi^2 fit is based on M_W, sin^2 theta_eff, (g-2)_mu, BR(b -> s gamma) and the lightest MSSM Higgs boson mass, M_h. We find indications for relatively light soft supersymmetry-breaking masses, offering good prospects for the LHC and the ILC, and in some cases also for the Tevatron.
In models of low-energy gauge mediation, the observed Higgs mass is in tension with the cosmological limit on the gravitino mass $m_{3/2} \lesssim 16$ eV. We present an alternative mediation mechanism of supersymmetry breaking via a $U(1)$ $D$-term with an $E_6$-inspired particle content, which we call "vector mediation". The gravitino mass can be in the eV range. The sfermion masses are at the 10 TeV scale, while gauginos around a TeV. This mechanism also greatly ameliorates the $μ$-problem.
We study production of gravitino and Polonyi particles in the minimal Starobinsky-Polonyi $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity with inflaton belonging to a massive vector supermultiplet. Our model has only one free parameter given by the scale of spontaneous SUSY breaking triggered by Polonyi chiral superfield. The vector supermultiplet generically enters the action non-minimally, via an arbitrary real function. This functon is chosen to generate the inflaton scalar potential of the Starobinsky model. Our supergravity model can be reformulated as an abelian supersymmetric gauge theory with the vector …
In supergravity theories with a very light gravitino, the gluino decays dominantly to a gluon and a gravitino. This results in a much larger missing $E_T$ for the multijet final states in hadronic colliders. We use the latest Tevatron data for the multijet final states to set a new absolute lower bound of 3.0 x 10^{-13} GeV for the light gravitino mass.
We investigate compatibility of the pure gravity mediation (or the minimal split supersymmetry) with chaotic inflation models in supergravity. We find that an approximate Z2 parity of the inflaton is useful to suppress gravitino production from thermal bath and to obtain consistent inflation dynamics. We discuss production of the lightest supersymmetric particle through the decay of the inflaton with the approximate Z2 symmetry and find that a large gravitino mass is favored to avoid the overproduction of the lightest supersymmetric particle, while a lower gravitino mass requires tuning of par…
A new modified string-inspired modular invariant supergravity model is proposed and is applied to realize the slow roll inflation in Einstein frame. Because inflation deals with Planck scale physics, the dilaton can be a strong candidate for identification with the inflaton. The model we used, cleared the $η$-problem and negative energy problem of potential at stable point, and appeared to predict successfully the values of observations at the inflation era. We proved that the model explains WMAP observations appropriately. Moreover, a mechanism of SSB and Gravitino production just after the e…
We review our recent results on dark matter from Starobinsky supergravity. In this context, a natural candidate for Cold Dark Matter is the gravitino. On the other hand, assuming the supersymmetry broken at scales much higher than the electroweak scale, gravitinos are super heavy particles. In this case, they may be non-thermally produced during inflation, in turn originated by the scalaron field with Starobinsky's potential.Assuming gravitinos as Lightest supersymmetric particles (LSSP), the non-thermal production naturally accounts for the right amount of cold dark matter. Metastability of t…
Gravitino production in the primordial Universe is investigated into details. After briefly reviewing inflation, supersymmetry and supergravity, we first study the scattering of massive W bosons in the thermal bath of particles, during the period of reheating. It is found that the process generates in the cross section terms which eventually lead to unitarity breaking above a certain scale. This happens by virtue of the supergravity vertex. We show that the longitudinal polarizations of the on-shell W become strongly interacting in the high energy limit, and that the inclusion of diagrams with…
We analyze the prospects for discovering supersymmetry at the Fermilab Tevatron and CERN LEP colliders in the scenario that the lightest supersymmetric particle is a gravitino of mass < 1 keV. We consider in particular the case that the lightest neutralino has a nearly 100% branching fraction into gravitino + photon within the detector. This implies that supersymmetric events should contain both missing (transverse) energy and two energetic photons. Therefore one can search for supersymmetry simply through inclusive production of superpartners. We consider the exclusion and reach capabilities …
In Split Supersymmetry scenarios the possibility of having a very heavy gravitino opens the door to alleviate or completely solve the worrisome "gravitino problem'' in the context of supersymmetric baryogenesis models. Here we assume that the gravitino may indeed be heavy and that Majorana masses for neutrinos are forbidden as well as direct Higgs Yukawa couplings between left and right handed neutrinos. We investigate the viability of the mechansim known as Dirac leptogenesis (or neutrinogenesis), both in solving the baryogenesis puzzle and explaining the observed neutrino sector phenomenolog…
The N=1 supergravity coupled to chiral and Yang-Mills superfields is regarded as the ultraviolet theory of the supersymmetric Standard Model. The gravitino acquires a mass from the hidden sector and participate in mediating supersymmetry breaking to the visible sector. We consider the quantum effects of the gravitino and evaluate its contribution to the gaugino masses at one loop level, which turns out to be irrespective of the SM gauge couplings. Due to the universality of gravitino, its contribution to the gaugino masses can significantly modify the gaugino mass relations of other supersymme…
We examine the phenomenological consequences of a supersymmetric bulk in the scenario of large extra dimensions. We assume supersymmetry is realized in the bulk and study the interactions of the resulting bulk gravitino Kaluza-Klein (KK) tower of states, with supersymmetry breaking on the brane inducing a light mass for the zero-mode gravitino. We derive the 4-d effective theory, including the couplings of the bulk gravitino KK states to fermions and their scalar superpartners. The virtual exchange of the gravitino KK states in selectron pair production in polarized \epem collisions is then ex…
A survey is given of supersymmetry and supergravity and their phenomenology. Some of the topics discussed are the basic ideas of global supersymmetry, the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and its phenomenology, the basic ideas of local supersymmetry (supergravity), grand unification, supersymmetry breaking in supergravity grand unified models, radiative breaking of $SU(2) \times U(1)$, proton decay, cosmological constraints, and predictions of supergravity grand unified models. While the number of detailed derivations are necessarily limited, a sufficient number of results are give…
The $N=1$ supersymmetric Born-Infeld theory coupled to $N=1$ supergravity in four spacetime dimensions is studied in the presence of a cosmological term with spontaneous supersymmetry breaking. The consistency is achieved by compensating a negative contribution to the cosmological term from the Born-Infeld theory by a positive contribution originating from the gravitino condensate. This leads to an identification of the Born-Infeld scale with the supersymmetry breaking scale. The dynamical formation of the gravitino condensate in supergravity is reconsidered and the induced one-loop effective …
A collider signal with a stable gravitino of ${\cal O}(10)$eV mass at the International Linear Collider (ILC) experiment is investigated. Such a light gravitino is generally predicted in the low-scale gauge mediation scenario of the supersymmetry breaking. We particularly focus on the case that the next lightest supersymmetric particle is stau, which eventually decays into a gravitino and a $τ$-lepton. With such a small gravitino mass, the lifetime of the stau is $10^{-15}$--$10^{-11}$sec, and the produced stau decays before reaching the first layer of the inner detector of the ILC. It is show…
We investigate how late-time entropy production weakens the Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) constraints on the gravitino as lightest superparticle with a charged slepton as next-to-lightest superparticle. We find that with a moderate amount of entropy production, the BBN constraints can be eluded for most of the parameter space relevant for the discovery of the gravitino. This is encouraging for experimental tests of supergravity at LHC and ILC.
