We study the cosmological gravitino production in gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models, while properly taking into account the existence of the messenger mass scale. It is found that for sizable parameter range of the model the messenger sector contribution leads to more stringent upper bound on the reheat temperature obtained from the condition that the universe should not be overclosed by relic gravitinos. However it turns out that in the limit of relatively low messenger scale and large gravitino mass, the relic gravitino mass density can be smaller than the critical density indepen…
We discuss the effects of the gravitino on the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), paying particular attention to the hadronic decay mode of the gravitino. We will see that the hadronic decay of the gravitino significantly affect the BBN and, for the case where the hadronic branching ratio is sizable, very stringent upper bound on the reheating temperature after inflation is obtained.
A generic feature of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models is that the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). In order not to overclose the universe, the gravitino LSP should be light enough (~ 1 keV), or appropriately heavy (~ 1 GeV). We study further constraints on the mass of the gravitino imposed by electroweak experiments, i.e., muon g-2 measurements, electroweak precision measurements, and direct searches for supersymmetric particles at LEP2. We find that the heavy gravitino is strongly disfavored from the lower mass bound on the next-to-LSP. The sufficiently lig…
We motivate Higgsino dark matter from a solution to the cosmological moduli/gravitino problem. Cosmological moduli/gravitino should be heavy enough to decay before the onset of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, and this requirement typically forces gauginos to have masses above a TeV in Type IIB compactifications. Higgsinos emerge as the viable sub-TeV dark matter candidates if anomaly and modulus mediated contributions to supersymmetry breaking are both competitive. Obtaining the correct relic density in this mass range forces Higgsinos to be produced non-thermally from the decay of a modulus. We out…
We investigate the cosmological gravitino problem in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models, where the gravitino becomes in general the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). In order to avoid the overclosure of the stable gravitino, the reheating temperature of inflation $T_R$ should be low enough. Furthermore, if the gravitino mass is larger than about 100 MeV, the decay of the next-to-LSP (NLSP) into the gravitino may modify disastrously the abundances of the light elements predicted by the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We consider the case in which the lighter stau is the NLSP and…
Based on the R-parity violation option of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model, we examine the scenario where the massive gravitino, relic from the hot big-bang, is the lightest supersymmetric particle and can decay through one or several of the trilinear R-parity violating interactions. We calculate the rates of the gravitino decay via the various three-body decay channels with final states involving three quarks and/or leptons. By taking into account the present constraints on the trilinear R-parity violating coupling constants and assuming the gravitino and scalar superpartner masses d…

We study the scenario where a sneutrino is the next lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) and decays into a gravitino and standard model particles. The daughter particles such as neutrinos and quarks cause electro- and hadronic showers and affect big-bang nucleosynthesis. It is found that despite a small branching ratio, four-body processes including quarks in the final state give the most stringent constraint on the sneutrino abundance for gravitino mass of 1 $-$ 100 GeV. Pion production by high energy neutrinos is important when the sneutrinos decay at $\sim$ 1 sec. We also discuss the the…
We present a new scenario of gravitino dark matter which is compatible with the thermal leptogenesis. We confirm by an explicit calculation in supergravity that the relic abundance of thermally produced gravitino becomes insensitive to the reheating temperature once the temperature of the Universe exceeds the mass scale of the messenger fields. In such a situation, the correct baryon to dark matter ratio can be obtained by thermal leptogenesis when the reheating temperature after inflation is high enough. We demonstrate in a concrete model of gauge mediation that the correct abundance of gravi…
Effects of the unstable gravitino on the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) and its implications to particle cosmology are discussed. If the gravitino mass is smaller than \sim 20 TeV, lifetime of the gravitino becomes longer than \sim 1sec and its decay may spoil the success of the standard BBN. In order to avoid such a problem, upper bound on the reheating temperature after the inflation is obtained, which may be as low as \sim 10^{5-6} GeV. For a successful baryogenesis with such low reheating temeprature, a consistent scenario based on the large cutoff supergravity (LCSUGRA) hypothesis of supe…
We show that gravitinos produced by decays of a supersymmetry breaking scalar field (the pseudo-moduli field) can naturally explain the observed abundance of dark matter in a certain class of the gauge mediation models. We study the decay processes as well as cosmological constraints on this scenario in detail, particularly focusing on different behavior of the real and imaginary components of the pseudo-moduli field. Cosmologically viable scenario emerges when the gravitino and the pseudo-moduli masses are O(10-100) MeV and O(100) GeV, respectively.
We provide a gauge-mediation model of dynamical supersymmetry breaking where the gravitino mass takes a value in a wide range from 0.1 eV to 10 GeV. The lower mass region of order 100 keV or less deserves experimental and cosmological interests. The vacuum of our model is a true one without runaway instability, which may be desirable in a cosmological evolution of the universe.
The cosmological moduli problem (CMP) comes in three parts: 1. potential violation of BBN constraints from late decaying moduli fields, 2. the moduli-induced gravitino problem wherein gravitinos are overproduced and 3. the moduli-induced lightest SUSY particle (LSP) overproduction problem. We examine the cosmological moduli problem and its connection to electroweak naturalness. We calculate the various two-body decay widths of a light modulus field into MSSM particles and gravitinos within general supersymmetric models. We include both phase space and mixing effects. We examine cases without a…
We revisit the cosmology of the supersymmetric QCD axion, highlighting the existence of a serious cosmological axino problem that is fully analogous to the gravitino problem of overclosure via thermal production. A general analysis implies that the QCD axino has a mass greater than or equal to that of the gravitino in the absence of unnatural fine-tuning or sequestering. As a consequence, bounds from thermal gravitino and QCD axino production are complementary in parameter space, and together provide a quite stringent limit on the reheating temperature after inflation given by T_R < 10^3 - 10^…
Gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking scenarios with an ultra-light gravitino of mass m_{3/2}=1-10 eV are very interesting, since there is no cosmological gravitino problem. We propose a new experimental determination of the gravitino mass for such an ultra-light gravitino, by measuring a branching ratio of two decay modes of sleptons.
We investigate the thermal production of gravitinos in the context of the brane world cosmology. Since the expansion law is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, the Boltzmann equation for the gravitino production is altered. We find that the late-time gravitino abundance is proportional to the ``transition temperature'', at which the modified expansion law in the brane world cosmology is connecting with the standard one, rather than the reheating temperature after inflation as in the standard cosmology. This means that, even though the reheating temperature is very high, we can avo…
The cosmological moduli problem for relatively heavy moduli fields is reinvestigated. For this purpose we examine the decay of a modulus field at a quantitative level. The modulus dominantly decays into gauge bosons and gauginos, provided that the couplings among them are not suppressed in the gauge kinetic function. Remarkably the modulus decay into a gravitino pair is unsuppressed generically, with a typical branching ratio of order 0.01. Such a large gravitino yield after the modulus decay causes cosmological difficulties. The constraint from the big-bang nucleosynthesis pushes up the gravi…
Supersymmetric (SUSY) standard models in which the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) is an ultralight gravitino (m_{3/2}=O(1) eV) are very attractive, since they are free from the cosmological gravitino problems. If the neutralino is the next lightest SUSY particle (NLSP), it decays into a photon and the gravitino in collider experiments. We propose a simple test for the lightness of gravitino at the LHC.
Light gravitinos of mass $\lesssim \mathcal{O} (10)$ eV are of particular interest in cosmology, offering various baryogenesis scenarios without suffering from the cosmological gravitino problem. The gravitino may contribute considerably to the total matter content of the Universe and affect structure formation from early to present epochs. After the gravitinos decouple from other particles in the early Universe, they free-stream and consequently suppress density fluctuations of (sub-)galactic length scales. Observations of structure at the relevant length-scales can be used to infer or constr…
We derive cosmological constraints on the masses of generic scalar fields which decay only through gravitationally suppressed interactions into unstable gravitinos and ordinary particles in the supersymmetric standard model. For the gravitino mass 100GeV-1TeV, the scalar masses should be larger than 100TeV to keep the success of big-bang nucleosynthesis if no late-time entropy production dilutes the gravitino density.
In supersymmetric axion models, if the gravitino or axino is the lightest SUSY particle (LSP), the other is often the next-to-LSP (NLSP). We investigate the cosmology of such a scenario and point out that the lifetime of the NLSP naturally becomes comparable to the present age of the universe in a viable parameter region. This is a well-motivated example of the so-called decaying dark matter model, which is recently considered as an extension of the $Λ$CDM model to relax some cosmological tensions.
Models of leptogenesis are constrained by the low reheat temperature at the end of reheating associated with the gravitino bound. However a detailed view of reheating, in which the maximum temperature during reheating, $\Tmax$, can be orders of magnitude higher than the reheat temperature, allows for the production of heavy Majorana neutrinos needed for leptogenesis. But then one must also consider the possibility of enhanced gravitino production in such scenarios. In this article we consider gravitino production during reheating, its dependence on $\Tmax$, and its relevance for leptogenesis. …
The gravitino is a promising candidate for cold dark matter. We study cosmological constraints on scenarios in which the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle and a charged slepton the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP). We obtain new results for the hadronic nucleosynthesis bounds by computing the 4-body decay of the NLSP slepton into the gravitino, the associated lepton, and a quark-antiquark pair. The bounds from the observed dark matter density are refined by taking into account gravitinos from both late NLSP decays and thermal scattering in the early Universe. We …
We discuss two cosmological issues in a generic gauge-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY)-breaking model, namely the Universe's baryon asymmetry and the gravitino dark-matter density. We show that both problems can be simultaneously solved if there exist extra matter multiplets of a SUSY-invariant mass of the order of the ``$μ$-term'', as suggested in several realistic SUSY grand-unified theories. We propose an attractive scenario in which the observed baryon asymmetry is produced in a way totally independent of the reheating temperature of inflation without causing any cosmological gravitino proble…
The gravitino dark matter with neutralino NLSP hypothesis is investigated in the framework of NMSSM. We have considered both the thermal and non-thermal gravitino production mechanisms, and we have taken into account all the collider and cosmological constraints. The maximum allowed reheating temperature after inflation, as well as the maximum allowed gravitino mass are determined.
We study cosmological constraints in the context of $R$-parity violating MFV SUSY and find it is driven to $\tan(β)\approx1$. These constraints are from two sources: first from the requirement that baryon number violation not undo baryogenesis and second that the flux of decay products from gravitino dark matter not exceed that observed by experiments such as PAMELA and Fermi LAT. The latter discussion favors relatively low gravitino masses of a few GeV.
We investigate gravitino dark matter scenarios in which the primordial ^6Li production is catalyzed by bound-state formation of long-lived negatively charged particles X^- with ^4He. In the constrained minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) with the stau^- as the X^-, the observationally inferred bound on the primordial ^6Li abundance allows us to derive a rigid lower limit on the gaugino mass parameter for a standard cosmological history. This limit can have severe implications for supersymmetry searches at the Large Hadron Collider and for the reheating temperature after inflation.
We consider compactifications induced by the gravitino field of eleven dimensional supergravity. Such compactifications are not trivial in the sense that the gravitino profiles are not related to pure bosonic ones by means of a supersymmetry transformation. The basic property of such backgrounds is that they admit $ψ$-torsion although they have vanishing Riemann tensor. Thus, these backgrounds may be considered also as solutions of the teleparallel formulation of supergravity. We construct two classes of solutions, one with both antisymmetric three-form field, gravity and gravitino and one wit…
The discrepancy on Li^7 and Li^6 abundances between the observational data and the standard Big Bang Nucleosynthesis theory prediction has been a nagging problem in astrophysics and cosmology, given the highly attractive and succesful Big Bang paradigm. One possible solution of this lithium problem is through hadronic decays of a massive metastable particle which alter the primordial element abundances. We explore this possibility using gravitino dark matter framework in which the next lightest supersymmetric particle (NLSP) is typically long-lived. We found that stop NLSP can provide an attra…
Scenarios with gravitino dark matter face potential cosmological problems induced by the presence of the Next-to-Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (NLSP) at the time of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). A very simple, albeit radical, solution to avoid all these problems consists on assuming that R-parity is slightly violated, since in this case the NLSP decays well before the onset of BBN. Remarkably, even if the gravitino is no longer stable in this scenario, it still constitutes a very promising dark matter candidate. In this talk we review the motivations for this scenario and we present a mod…
Light gravitinos, with mass in the eV to MeV range, are well-motivated in particle physics, but their status as dark-matter candidates is muddled by early-Universe uncertainties. We investigate how upcoming data from colliders may clarify this picture. Light gravitinos are produced primarily in the decays of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle, resulting in spectacular signals, including di-photons, delayed and non-pointing photons, kinked charged tracks, and heavy metastable charged particles. We find that the Tevatron with 20/fb and the 7 TeV LHC with 1/fb may both see evidence for …
We study implications of thermal leptogenesis for the superparticle mass spectrum. A consistent picture is obtained if the lightest superparticle is the gravitino, which can be the dominant component of cold dark matter. In the case of a long-lived charged scalar lepton as next-to-lightest superparticle, supergravity can be tested at the next generation of colliders, LHC and ILC.
We consider the impact of Catalyzed Big Bang Nucleosynthesis on theories with a gravitino LSP and a charged slepton NLSP. In models where the gravitino to gaugino mass ratio is bounded from below, such as gaugino-mediated SUSY breaking, we derive a lower bound on the gaugino mass parameter m_1/2. As a concrete example, we determine the parameter space of gaugino mediation that is compatible with all cosmological constraints.
Gravitinos and hidden sector fields often cause a cosmological disaster in supersymmetric models. We find that a model with gravitational gauge mediation solves such a problem quite naturally. The mu-problem is also absent in the model. Moreover, the abundance of gravitinos explains correct amount of dark matter of the universe. The dark matter abundance can be calculated without detailed information on the thermal history of the universe such as the reheating temperature after inflation.
Cosmological issues are examined when gravitino is the lightest superparticle (LSP) and R-parity is broken. Decays of the next lightest superparticles occur rapidly via R-parity violating interaction, and thus they do not upset the big-bang nucleosynthesis, unlike the R-parity conserving case. The gravitino LSP becomes unstable, but its lifetime is typically much longer than the age of the Universe. It turns out that observations of diffuse photon background coming from radiative decays of the gravitino do not severely constrain the gravitino abundance, and thus the gravitino weighing less tha…
Supersymmetric scenarios where the lightest superparticle (LSP) is the gravitino are an attractive alternative to the widely studied case of a neutralino LSP. A strong motivation for a gravitino LSP arises from the possibility of achieving higher reheating temperatures and thus potentially allow for thermal leptogenesis. The predictions for the primordial abundances of light elements in the presence of a late decaying next-to-LSP (NSLP) as well as the currently measured dark matter abundance allow us to probe the cosmological viability of such a scenario. Here we consider a gravitino-stau scen…
We investigate the cosmological moduli problem by studying a modulus decay in detail and find that the branching ratio of the gravitino production is generically of O(0.01-1), which causes another cosmological disaster. Consequently, the cosmological moduli problem cannot be solved simply by making the modulus mass heavier than 100 TeV. We also illustrate our results by explicitly calculating the branching ratio into the gravitinos in the mixed modulus--anomaly/KKLT- and racetrack-type models.
We consider the effects of uncertainties in nuclear reaction rates on the cosmological constraints on the decays of unstable particles during or after Big-Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We identify the nuclear reactions due to non-thermal hadrons that are the most important in perturbing standard BBN, then quantify the uncertainties in these reactions and in the resulting light-element abundances. These results also indicate the key nuclear processes for which improved cross section data would allow different light-element abundances to be determined more accurately, thereby making possible more …
We consider the dynamics of the supersymmetry-breaking scalar field and the production of dark matter gravitinos via its decay in a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking model with metastable vacuum. We find that the scalar field amplitude and gravitino density are extremely sensitive to the parameters of the hidden sector. For the case of an O'Raifeartaigh sector, we show that the observed dark matter density can be explained by gravitinos even for low reheating temperatures T_{R} < 10 GeV. Such low reheating temperatures may be implied by detection of the NLSP at the LHC if its thermal freez…
We consider supersymmetric model with right-handed (s)neutrinos where the neutrino masses are purely Dirac-type. We discuss cosmology based on such a scenario, paying particular attention to the case that the gravitino is the lightest superparticles (LSP) while the right-handed sneutrino is the next-LSP. It will be shown that the cosmological constraints on the gravitino-LSP scenario (in particular, those from the big-bang nucleosynthesis) are drastically relaxed in such a case. We will also consider the implication of such scenario to the structure formation.
In supersymmetric (SUSY) models with the gravitino being the lightest SUSY particle (LSP), the SUSY breaking scale (i.e., the gravitino mass) could be determined by measuring the lifetime of the next-to-lightest SUSY particle (NLSP). However, for an ultralight gravitino of mass of O(1) eV, which is favored cosmologically, the determination of the SUSY breaking scale, or the gravitino mass, is difficult because the NLSP decay length is too short to be measured directly. Recently we proposed a new determination of the gravitino mass by measuring a branching fraction of two decay modes of slepton…
A recent cosmological bound on the gravitino mass, $m_{3/2}<4.7$ eV, together with LHC results on the Higgs mass and direct searches, excludes minimal gauge mediation with high reheating temperatures. We discuss a minimal, vector-mediated model which incorporates the seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses, allows for thermal leptogenesis, ameliorates the $μ$ problem, and achieves the observed Higgs mass and a gravitino as light as $1$-$2$ eV.
We present the package GravitinoPack that calculates the two- and three-body decays of unstable supersymmetric particles involving the gravitino in the final or initial state. In a previous paper, we already showed results for the gravitino decays into two and three particles. In this paper, we incorporate the processes where an unstable neutralino, stau or stop decays into a gravitino and Standard Model particles. This is the case in gravitino dark matter supersymmetric models, where the gravitino is the lightest SUSY particle. We give instructions for the installation and the use of the pack…
We study radiative gravitino decay within the framework of R-violating supersymmetry. For trilinear R-violating couplings that involve the third generation of fermions, or for light gravitinos, we find that the radiative loop-decay $\tilde{G} \to γν$ dominates over the tree-level ones for a wide set of parameters. We calculate the gravitino decay width and study its implications for cosmology and collider physics. Slow-decaying gravitinos are good dark matter candidates, for a range of parameters that would also predict observable R-violating signatures in colliders. In general the branching r…
Cosmological issues of the gravitino production by the decay of a heavy scalar field $X$ are examined, assuming that the damped coherent oscillation of the scalar once dominates the energy of the universe. The coupling of the scalar field to a gravitino pair is estimated both in spontaneous and explicit supersymmetry breaking scenarios, with the result that it is proportional to the vacuum expectation value of the scalar field in general. Cosmological constraints depend on whether the gravitino is stable or not, and we study each case separately. For the unstable gravitino with $M_{3/2} \sim$ …
Supersymmetric theories with gravitino dark matter generally do not allow the high reheating temperature required by thermal leptogenesis without running afoul of relic abundance or big bang nucleosynthesis constraints. We report on a successful search for parameter space that does satisfy these requirements. The main implication is the near degeneracy of the gluino with the other neutralinos in the spectrum. The leading discovery channel at the LHC for this scenario is through monojet plus missing energy events.
We consider cosmological implications of supersymmetric models with right-handed (s)neutrinos where the neutrino masses are purely Dirac-type. We pay particular attention to the case where gravitino is the lightest superparticle while one of the right-handed sneutrinos is next-to-the-lightest superparticle. We study constraints from big-bang nuleosynthesis and show that the constraints could be relaxed compared to the case without right-handed sneutrinos. As a result, the gravitino-dark-matter scenario becomes viable with relatively large value of the gravitino mass. We also discuss constraint…
We consider, in the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard model, the case where the gravitino weighs 10^6 GeV or more, which is preferred by various cosmological difficulties associated with unstable gravitinos. Despite the large Higgs mixing parameter B together with the little hierarchy to other soft supersymmetry breaking masses, a light higgsino with an electroweak scale mass leads to successful electroweak symmetry breaking, at the price of fine-tuning the higgsino mixing mu parameter. Furthermore the light higgsinos produced at the decays of gravitinos can constitute the dark ma…
Extremely weakly interacting particles like the gravitino may be stable enough on cosmological time scales to constitute a good dark matter candidate even in the presence of R-parity violation. We consider the possibility that the recently identified 3.5 keV x-ray line can be generated in light gravitino decays to neutrinos and photons. We find that this is indeed possible in loop processes induced by trilinear lepton-number-violating couplings. We show that in order to avoid overproduction of gravitinos, the reheating temperature has to be at most around 100 GeV to 1 TeV. Finally we briefly d…
Motivated by the recent results from the PAMELA and ATIC, we study the cosmic-ray electron and positron produced by the decay of gravitino dark matter. We calculate the cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes and discuss implications to the PAMELA and ATIC data. In this paper, we will show that the observed anomalous fluxes by the PAMELA and ATIC can be explained in such a scenario. We will also discuss the synchrotron radiation flux from the Galactic center in such a scenario.
Gravitino Dark Matter represents a compelling scenario in Supersymmetry, which brings together a variety of data from cosmology and collider physics. We discuss the constraints obtained from the LHC on supersymmetric models with gravitino dark matter and neutralino NLSP, which is the case most difficult to disentangle at colliders from a neutralino LSP forming DM. The phenomenological SUSY model with 19+1 free parameters is adopted. Results are obtained from broad scans of the phase space of these uncorrelated parameters. The relation between gravitino mass, gluino mass and reheating temperatu…
The gravitino in models with a small violation of R-parity is a well-motivated decaying dark matter candidate that leads to a cosmological scenario that is consistent with big bang nucleosynthesis and thermal leptogenesis. The gravitino lifetime is cosmologically long-lived since its decays are suppressed by the Planck-scale as well as the small R-parity violating parameter. We discuss the signals in different cosmic-ray species coming from the decay of gravitino dark matter, namely gamma rays, positrons, antiprotons, antideuterons and neutrinos. Comparison to cosmic-ray data can be used to co…
Affleck-Dine baryogenesis, accompanied by the formation and subsequent decay of Q-balls, can generate both the baryon asymmetry of the universe and dark matter in the form of gravitinos. The gravitinos from Q-ball decay dominate over the thermally produced population if the reheat temperature is less than 10^7 GeV. We show that a gravitino with mass around 1 GeV is consistent with all observational bounds and can explain the baryon-to-dark-matter ratio in the gauge-mediated models of supersymmetry breaking for a wide range of cosmological and Q-ball parameters. Moreover, decaying Q-balls can b…
Gravitino production in the primordial Universe is investigated into details. After briefly reviewing inflation, supersymmetry and supergravity, we first study the scattering of massive W bosons in the thermal bath of particles, during the period of reheating. It is found that the process generates in the cross section terms which eventually lead to unitarity breaking above a certain scale. This happens by virtue of the supergravity vertex. We show that the longitudinal polarizations of the on-shell W become strongly interacting in the high energy limit, and that the inclusion of diagrams with…
We studied previously the impact on light-element abundances of gravitinos decaying during or after Big-Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN). We found regions of the gravitino mass m_{3/2} and abundance zeta_{3/2} plane where its decays could reconcile the calculated abundance of Li7 with observation without perturbing the other light-element abundances unacceptably. Here we revisit this issue in light of LHC measurements of the Higgs mass and constraints on supersymmetric model parameters, as well as updates in the astrophysical measurements of light-element abundances. In addition to the constrained m…
It has been shown that very light or even massless neutralinos are consistent with all current experiments, given non-universal gaugino masses. Furthermore, a very light neutralino is consistent with astrophysical bounds from supernovæ and cosmological bounds on dark matter. Here we study the cosmological constraints on this scenario from Big Bang nucleosynthesis taking gravitinos into account and find that a very light neutralino is even favoured by current observations.
A cosmological scenario of a light axino and a lighter gravitino is presented. The most important consequence is that it can mimick the mixed dark matter (MDM) model of the large scale structure formation. The presence of axino and gravitino is inevitable in supergravity extension of the invisible axion solution of the strong CP problem. The possibility of a light gravitino is popular in the recent efforts of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking.
We compute the 4--dimensional cosmological constant in string compactifications in which the Standard Model fields live on a non-supersymmetric brane inside a supersymmetric bulk. The cosmological constant receives contributions only from the vacuum energy of the bulk supergravity fields, but not from the vacuum energy of the brane fields. The latter is absorbed in a warp factor. Supersymmetry breaking on the brane at the TeV scale implies supersymmetry breaking in the bulk at the micrometer scale. This produces a tiny cosmological constant that agrees with experiment within a few orders of ma…
We investigate the Q-ball decay in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking. Q balls decay mainly into nucleons, and partially into gravitinos, while they are kinematically forbidden to decay into sparticles which would be cosmologically harmful. This is achieved by the Q-ball charge small enough to be unstable for the decay, and large enough to be protected kinematically from unwanted decay channel. We can then have right amounts of the baryon asymmetry and the dark matter of the universe, evading any astrophysical and cosmological observational constraints such as the big bang nucleosynthesis, which…
We investigate the so-called superWIMP scenario with gravitino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in the context of non-standard cosmology, in particular, brane world cosmology. As a candidate of the next-to-LSP (NLSP), we examine slepton and sneutrino. Brane world cosmological effects dramatically enhance the relic density of the slepton or sneutrino NLSP, so that the NLSP with mass of order 100 GeV can provide the correct abundance of gravitino dark matter through its decay. We find that with an appropriate five dimensional Planck mass, this scenario can be realized consistently w…
