We present a systematic search for molecular hydrogen absorption systems at high redshift in quasar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) II Data Release 7 and SDSS-III Data Release 9. We have selected candidates using a modified profile fitting technique taking into account that the Ly$α$ forest can effectively mimic H$_2$ absorption systems at the resolution of SDSS data. To estimate the confidence level of the detections, we use two methods: a Monte-Carlo sampling and an analysis of control samples. The analysis of control samples allows us to define regions of the spectral quality parameter space where H$_2$ absorption systems can be confidently identified. We find that H$_2$ absorption systems with column densities $\log {\rm N_{H_2}} > 19$ can be detected in only less than 3% of SDSS quasar spectra. We estimate the upper limit on the detection rate of saturated H$_2$ absorption systems ($\log {\rm N_{H_2}} > 19$) in Damped Ly-$α$ (DLA) systems to be about 7%. We provide a sample of 23 confident H$_2$ absorption system candidates that would be interesting to follow up with high resolution spectrographs. There is a 1$σ$ $r-i$ color excess and non-significant $A_{\rm V}$ extinction excess in quasar spectra with an H$_2$ candidate compared to standard DLA-bearing quasar spectra. The equivalent widths (EWs) of C II, Si II and Al III (but not Fe II) absorptions associated with H$_2$ candidate DLAs are larger compared to standard DLAs. This is probably related to a larger spread in velocity of the absorption lines in the H$_2$ bearing sample.
The Size, Shape and Orientation of Cosmological Voids in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
The gravitational redshift effect allows one to directly probe the gravitational potential in clusters of galaxies. Following up on Wojtak et al. [Nature (London) 477, 567 (2011)], we present a new measurement. We take advantage of new data from the tenth data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey. We compare the spectroscopic redshift of the brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) with that of galaxies at the outskirts of clusters, using a sample with an average cluster mass of $10^{14} M_{\odot}$. We find that these galaxies have an average relativ…
We analyze a set of volume limited samples from SDSS DR12 to quantify the degree of inhomogeneity at different length scales using Shannon entropy. We find that the galaxy distributions exhibit a higher degree of inhomogeneity as compared to a Poisson point process at all length scales. Our analysis indicates that signatures of inhomogeneities in the galaxy distributions persist at least upto a length scale of $120 \, h^{-1}\, {\rm Mpc}$. The galaxy distributions appear to be homogeneous on a scale of $140 \, h^{-1}\, {\rm Mpc}$ and beyond. Analyzing a set of mock galaxy samples from a semi an…
Four New Observational $H(z)$ Data From Luminous Red Galaxies of Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release Seven
随着年龄-红移关系的减小,获得了4个新的观测$H(z)$数据点,它们分别是$H(z)=69.0\pm19.6$ km s $^{-1}$ Mpc $^{-1}$ at $z=0.07$,$H(z)=68.6\pm26.2$ km s $^{-1}$ Mpc $^{-1}$ at $z=0.12$,$H(z)$ = $72.9\pm29.6$ km s $^{-1}$ Mpc $^{-1}$ at $z=0.2$和$H(z)$ = $88.8\pm36.6$ km s $^{-1}$ Mpc $^{-1}$ at $z=0.28$.结合其他21个OHD数据点,给出了平面和非平面$Λ$ CDM模型的约束性能。
The Pittsburgh Sloan Digital Sky Survey MgII Quasar Absorption-Line Survey Catalog

Colour Gradients and the Colour-Magnitude Relation: Different Properties of Brightest Cluster Galaxies and E/S0 Galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
A novel fractal analysis of the cosmic web structure is carried out, employing the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, data release 7. We consider the large-scale stellar mass distribution, unlike other analyses, and determine its multifractal geometry, which is compared with the geometry of the cosmic web generated by cosmological N-body simulations. We find a good concordance, the common features being: (i) a minimum singularity strength equal to one, which corresponds to the edge of diverging gravitational energy and differs from the adhesion model prediction; (ii) a "supercluster set" of relatively …
Previous studies have shown the filamentary structures in the cosmic web influence the alignments of nearby galaxies. We study this effect in the LOWZ sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey using the "Cosmic Web Reconstruction" filament catalogue. We find that LOWZ galaxies exhibit a small but statistically significant alignment in the direction parallel to the orientation of nearby filaments. This effect is detectable even in the absence of nearby galaxy clusters, which suggests it is an effect from the matter distribution in the filament. A nonparametric regression model suggests that the al…
Observational Upper Bound on the Cosmic Abundances of Negative-mass Compact Objects and Ellis Wormholes from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Quasar Lens Search
We use a sample of over 5000 active galactic nuclei (AGN) with extended morphologies at z<0.8 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) to study the ensemble optical variability as a function of rest-frame time lag and AGN luminosity with the aim of investigating these parameter relationships at lower luminosities than previously studied. We compare photometry from imaging data with spectrophotometry obtained weeks to years later in the Sloan g, r, and i bands. We employ quasar and galaxy eigenspectra fitting to separate the AGN and host galaxy components. A strong correlation between the varia…
