We present the results of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations measured in Pb--Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt(s_NN) = 2.76 TeV recorded by ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider. These types of correlations allow to extract, using the technique of femtoscopy (also known as Hanburry-Brown Twiss interferometry, or shortly HBT), the space-time characteristics of the source from the correlation calculated as a function of the pair momentum difference. The femtoscopic analysis was performed using both the Spherical Harmonics decomposition and the standard 3D Cartesian representation of the correlation function. The source sizes in three dimensions, the HBT radii, were extracted by fitting the experimental correlation functions. The resulting dependencies of the radii as a function of centrality and pair transverse momentum are shown. The results indicate the existence of a flowing medium and provide constraints on existing dynamical models. The ALICE Pb-Pb HBT radii are also compared to the pp analysis and other heavy-ion experiments in order to test the multiplicity scaling between different systems.
One of the key methods used in the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) is femtoscopy, the technique of measuring short-range two-particle correlations as a function of relative momentum. Traditionally, femtoscopy has been utilized to measure the size of the QGP fireball created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. However, since it is sensitive to the correlations between the particles in the final state, it has been shown recently that the parameters of the strong interaction can be probed as well. This review includes a broad range of ALICE femtoscopy results, including both traditional a…
We report on the results of femtoscopic analyses of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV and pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$= 7 TeV with identical charged and neutral kaons. The femtoscopic correlations allow one to measure the space-time characteristics of particle production using particle correlations due to the effects of quantum statistics for identical particles and final state interaction for both identical and non-identical ones. Small contributions from resonance decays make kaon femtoscopy an ideal tool for the correlation studies. In conjunction with pion and proton femtoscopy, …
In this report, femtoscopic measurements with proton-proton, antiproton-antiproton, proton-antiproton, proton-antilambda, antiproton-lambda and lambda-antilambda pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=2.76 TeV registered by ALICE at the LHC are presented. Emission source sizes extracted from the correlation analysis with (anti)protons grow with the event multiplicity, as expected. A method to extract the interaction potentials (e.g. for proton-antilambda and antiproton-lambda pairs) based on femtoscopy analysis is discussed. The importance of taking into account the so-called residual correla…
We present femtoscopic results for proton and Lambda correlation functions measured by ALICE in sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions. Femtoscopic radii are extracted from pp, pbarpbar, and ppbar pairs. Comparisons of these radii with those from pion and kaon analyses reveal an approximate transverse mass scaling that is consistent with explanations of radial flow. Inelastic final state interactions are explored in baryon-antibaryon correlations functions to investigate their relationship with reduced proton yields at LHC energies.
Two-particle femtoscopic correlations between non-identical charged particles for different charge combinations are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The three-dimensional two-particle correlation functions are studied in different centrality bins. The femtoscopic source size parameter ($R_{Out}$) and emission asymmetry ($μ$) are extracted. It is observed that the average source size of the system and emission asymmetry between particles increase from peripheral to central events.
We present the results on two-particle Bose-Einstein correlations measured in proton-proton collisions at center of mass energies of sqrt{s}=0.9 TeV, sqrt{s}=2.76 TeV and sqrt{s}=7 TeV registered by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Detailed analysis reveals that the three dimensional experimental correlation functions do not have Gaussian shape in two dimensions. We found that they are better described by an exponential functional form in the outward and longitudinal directions, while the sideward remains a Gaussian. This is interpreted as a result of a significant contributi…
Femtoscopic correlations between charged pions and kaons for different charge combinations are measured in Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV with ALICE at the LHC. The three-dimensional pion-kaon ($π-{\rm K}$) correlation functions and double ratios in the out-side-long pair rest frame are studied in different centrality bins. The $π-{\rm K}$ femtoscopic source size parameter ($R_{\rm out}$) and emission asymmetry ($μ_{\rm out}$) are extracted. It is observed that the average source size of the system and the emission asymmetry between pions and kaons increase from peripheral …
We present results of femtoscopic analysis with K0s-K0s, Kch-Kch, p-p, pbar-pbar, p-pbar and lambda-antilambda in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt{s_NN}=2.76 TeV and K0s-K0s in pp collisions at sqrt{s}=7 TeV registered by ALICE at the LHC. The femtoscopic radius is extracted from the one-dimensional correlation functions. The analysis reveals that the emission source sizes of pions, kaons and protons measured in heavy-ion collisions exhibit approximate transverse mass scaling which is consistent with hydrodynamic collectivity prediction. Furthermore, baryon-antibaryon correlations are investigated to …
Femtoscopy of non-central heavy ion collisions provides access to information on the geometry of the effective pion-emitting source. In particular, the source shape can be studied by measuring femtoscopic radii as a function of the pion emission angle relative to the collision symmetry planes. We present the results of azimuthally differential femtoscopy of Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV at the LHC relative to the second harmonic event plane. We observe a clear oscillation of the extracted radii as a function of the emission angle. We find that $R_{side}$ and $R_{out}$ oscillate …
Two particle correlations are used to extract information about the characteristic size of the system for proton-proton collisions at 900 GeV measured by the ALICE (A Large Ion Collider experiment) detector at CERN. The correlation functions obtained show the expected Bose-Einstein effect for identical particles, but there are also long range correlations present that shift the baseline from the expected flat behavior. A possible source of these correlations is the conservation of energy and momentum, especially for small systems, where the energy available for particle production is limited. …
Azimuthally differential femtoscopic measurements, being sensitive to spatio-temporal characteristics of the source as well as to the collective velocity fields at freeze-out, provide very important information on the nature and dynamics of the system evolution. While the HBT radii modulations relative to the second harmonic event plane reflect mostly the spatial geometry of the source, the third harmonic results are mostly defined by the velocity fields. Radii variations with respect to the third harmonic event plane unambiguously signal a collective expansion and anisotropy in the flow field…
We report on the results of femtoscopic analysis of Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=2.76 TeV and pp collisions at sqrt(s)=0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV with identical pions and kaons. Detailed femtoscopy studies in heavy-ion collisions at SPS and RHIC have shown that emission region sizes ("HBT radii") decrease with increasing pair transverse momentum k_T, which is understood as a manifestation of the collective behavior of matter. The trend was predicted to persist at the LHC. The data from Pb-Pb collisions confirm the existence of a flowing medium and provide strict constraints on the dynamical models.…
The non-identical particle femtoscopy is a technique that is developed to estimate the dimension of a particle-emitting medium as well as the average pair-emission asymmetry between the particles using two-particle correlation functions. The analysis of femtoscopic correlations for all possible charged combinations of pion-kaon pairs in Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=$ 5.02 TeV with ALICE at the LHC is presented in this article. The results are extracted for different centrality classes of Pb$-$Pb collisions using the spherical harmonics representations of the correlation functi…
We present the results of three-dimensional femtoscopic analyses for charged and neutral kaons recorded by ALICE in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV. Femtoscopy is used to measure the space-time characteristics of particle production from the effects of quantum statistics and final-state interactions in two-particle correlations. Kaon femtoscopy is an important supplement to that of pions because it allows one to distinguish between different model scenarios working equally well for pions. In particular, we compare the measured 3D kaon radii with a purely hydrodynamical calc…
Azimuthally-differential femtoscopic measurements, being sensitive to spatio-temporal characteristics of the source as well as to the collective velocity fields at freeze out, provide very important information on the nature and dynamics of the system evolution. While the HBT radii oscillations relative to the second harmonic event plane measured recently reflect mostly the spatial geometry of the source, model studies have shown that the HBT radii oscillations relative to the third harmonic event plane are predominantly defined by the velocity fields. In this Letter, we present the first resu…
In this paper, the first femtoscopic analysis of pion-kaon correlations at the LHC is reported. The analysis was performed on the Pb-Pb collision data at $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. The non-identical particle correlations probe the spatio-temporal separation between sources of different particle species as well as the average source size of the emitting system. The sizes of the pion and kaon sources increase with centrality, and pions are emitted closer to the centre of the system and/or later than kaons. This is naturally expected in a system with strong …
We present the first azimuthally differential measurements of the pion source size relative to the second harmonic event plane in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. The measurements have been performed in the centrality range 0-50% and for pion pair transverse momenta $0.2 < k_{\rm T} < 0.7$ GeV/$c$. We find that the $R_{\rm side}$ and $R_{\rm out}$ radii, which characterize the pion source size in the directions perpendicular and parallel to the pion transverse momentum, oscillate out of phase, similar to what was observed at …
This Letter presents the first direct investigation of the p-$Σ^{0}$ interaction, using the femtoscopy technique in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV measured by the ALICE detector. The $Σ^{0}$ is reconstructed via the decay channel to $Λγ$, and the subsequent decay of $Λ$ to p$π^-$. The photon is detected via the conversion in material to e$^{+}$e$^{-}$ pairs exploiting the unique capability of the ALICE detector to measure electrons at low transverse momenta. The measured p-$Σ^{0}$ correlation indicates a shallow strong interaction. The comparison of the data to several …
Non-identical particle femtoscopy measures the size of the system emitting particles ("radius") in heavy-ion collisions as well as the difference between mean emission space-time coordinates of two particle species ("emission asymmetry"). The system created in such collisions at the LHC behaves collectively and its dynamics is well described by hydrodynamic models. A significant emission asymmetry between pions and kaons, coming from collective flow, enhanced by contribution from flowing resonances is predicted. We present calculations within the (3+1)D viscous hydrodynamic model coupled to st…
The size of the particle emission region in high-energy collisions can be deduced using the femtoscopic correlations of particle pairs at low relative momentum. Such correlations arise due to quantum statistics and Coulomb and strong final state interactions. In this paper, results are presented from femtoscopic analyses of $π^{\pm}π^{\pm}$, ${\rm K}^{\pm}{\rm K}^{\pm}$, ${\rm K}^{0}_S{\rm K}^{0}_S$, ${\rm pp}$, and ${\rm \overline{p}}{\rm \overline{p}}$ correlations from Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm {NN}}}=2.76$ TeV by the ALICE experiment at the LHC. One-dimensional radii of the sys…
We report on the high statistics two-pion correlation functions from pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=0.9$ TeV and $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV, measured by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The correlation functions as well as the extracted source radii scale with event multiplicity and pair momentum. When analyzed in the same multiplicity and pair transverse momentum range, the correlation is similar at the two collision energies. A three-dimensional femtoscopic analysis shows an increase of the emission zone with increasing event multiplicity as well as decreasing homogeneity lengths with in…
Bose-Einstein correlations between identified charged pions are measured for $p$+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $28$ $\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$. Pions are identified using ionization energy loss measured in the pixel detector. Two-particle correlation functions and the extracted source radii are presented as a function of collision centrality as well as the average transverse momentum ($k_{\mathrm{T}}$) and rapidity ($y^{\star}_{ππ}$) of the pair. Pairs are selected with a rapidit…
We report on studies of two-particle ΔηΔϕ angular correlations measured in proton-proton collisions at center of mass energies sqrt{s} = 0.9 TeV, sqrt{s} = 2.76 TeV and sqrt{s} = 7 TeV registered by the ALICE experiment at LHC. We present the dependence of the correlation function on the pair transverse momentum, the multiplicity of the event and the charge combination of particles in the pair. ΔηΔϕcorrelations are expected to exhibit several structures which arise from different physics mechanisms. The results are also related to the correlations obtained by femtoscopic analysis. We show that…
Three-dimensional analyses of the pion source revealed a heavy, non-Gaussian tail in the direction of the pair transverse momentum. The interpretation of these pion sources in terms of pure hydrodynamical evolution is, however, complicated by the strong contribution of feed-down from long-lived resonances to the source. On the other hand, kaons provide a much cleaner probe of the expanding fireball. Here we present a recent three-dimensional kaon correlation analysis using Cartesian harmonics decomposition technique. In contrary to pions, the three-dimensional source function of kaons is large…
We provide, within the hydrokinetic model, a detailed investigation of kaon interferometry in $Pb+Pb$ collisions at LHC energy ($\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV). Predictions are presented for 1D interferometry radii of $K^0_SK^0_S$ and $K^{\pm}K^{\pm}$ pairs as well as for 3D femtoscopy scales in out, side and long directions. The results are compared with existing pion interferometry radii. We also make predictions for full LHC energy.
This work presents new constraints on the existence and the binding energy of a possible $Λ$-$Λ$ bound state, the H-dibaryon, derived from $Λ$-$Λ$ femtoscopic measurements by the ALICE collaboration. The results are obtained from a new measurement using the femtoscopy technique in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV, combined with previously published results from p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV. The $Λ$-$Λ$ scattering parameter space, spanned by the inverse scattering length $f_0^{-1}$ and the effective range $d_0$, is constrained by…
We present new measurements of $Λ-Λ$ correlations, which are closely related to $H$-dibaryon: a six quark state predicted by Jaffe (1977), in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV from the STAR experiment. Fits to different potential models are discussed and extracted scattering length and effective range are also presented. We also present spherical harmonic decomposition of pion-kaon correlation function for 0-5% centrality in Au+Au collision at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV. In addition, we also discuss results from azimuthal HBT for beam energies 7.7-200 GeV.
We report on the first femtoscopic measurement of baryon pairs, such as p-p, p-$Λ$ and $Λ$-$Λ$, measured by ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV. This study demonstrates the feasibility of such measurements in pp collisions at ultrarelativistic energies. The femtoscopy method is employed to constrain the hyperon-nucleon and hyperon-hyperon interactions, which are still rather poorly understood. A new method to evaluate the influence of residual correlations induced by the decays of resonances and experimental impurities is hereby presented.…
We present the first measurement of pion source radii in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The radii were obtained by analyzing the Bose-Einstein enhancement in two-pion correlation functions. Like at lower energies, the radii drop with increasing transverse momentum, indicating presence of collective expansion. In absolute terms, all three radii (Rout, Rside, Rlong) are larger than at RHIC, roughly consistent with a linear scaling with the cube root of the particle multiplicity.
We present the results for direct photon and neutral pion production obtained from proton-proton and lead-lead collisions in the ALICE experiment. Measurement of neutral pions in pp collisions allows to test the validity of QCD-inspired models. The study of neutral pion yields in Pb-Pb collisions permits to study the medium-induced suppression relative to the pp case. The yield of direct photons is compared to perturbative QCD calculations. In the case of central Pb-Pb collisions the observed excess of photons below 4 GeV/c is used to find the effective temperature of the matter.
The $m_T$-dependencies of the femto-scales, the so-called interferometry and source radii, are investigated within the hydrokinetic model for different types of particle pairs - pion-pion, kaon-kaon, proton-proton and proton-lambda, - produced in Pb+Pb and $p+p$ collisions at the LHC. In particular, such property of the femto-scales momentum behavior as $m_T$-scaling is studied for the systems with (w) and without (w/o) intensive transverse flow, and also w and w/o re-scattering at the final afterburner stage of the matter evolution. The detail spatiotemporal description obtained within hydrok…
Identical neutral kaon pair correlations are measured in 7 TeV pp collisions in the ALICE experiment. K0s-K0s correlation functions are formed in 3 multiplicity X 4 kT bins. The femtoscopic kaon source parameters Rinv and lambda are extracted from these correlation functions by fitting a (femtoscopy) X (PYTHIA) model to them, PYTHIA accounting for the non-flat baseline found in pp collisions. Source parameters are obtained from a fit which includes quantum statistics and final-state interactions of the a0/f0 resonance. K0s-K0s correlations show a systematic increase in Rinv for increasing mult…
We review our studies of spectator-induced electromagnetic (EM) effects on charged pion emission in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. These effects are found to consist in the electromagnetic {charge splitting} of pion directed flow as well as very large distortions in spectra and ratios of produced charged particles. As it emerges from our analysis, they offer sensitivity to the actual distance $d_E$ between the pion formation zone at freeze-out and the spectator matter. As a result, this gives a new possibility of studying the space-time evolution of dense and hot matter created in the…
The measurement of pion source radii in Pb-Pb collisions with the ALICE experiment at LHC is presented. By the analysis of Bose-Einstein enhancement in the correlation function of identical pions information on the size and evolution of the source region in space-time can be obtained. The source radii observed at LHC are larger than at RHIC, approximately scaling with the cube root of the particle multiplicity. A decrease of source radii with increasing pair momentum, indicating a collective expansion of the medium, was observed at RHIC and SPS and is also expected at LHC energies. The ALICE d…
Invariant cross sections for neutral pions and eta mesons in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV were measured by the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculations describe the pi0 and eta spectra at 0.9 TeV, but overestimate the measured cross sections at 2.76 TeV and 7 TeV. The measured eta/pi0 ratio is consistent with mT scaling at 2.76 TeV. At 7 TeV indications for a violation of mT scaling were found.
Short range correlations of identified charged hadrons in pp (sqrt(s) = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV), pPb (sqrt(sNN) = 5.02 TeV), and peripheral PbPb collisions (sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV) are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. Charged pions, kaons, and protons at low pT and in laboratory pseudorapidity |eta| < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The two-particle correlation functions show effects of quantum statistics, Coulomb interaction, and also indicate the role of multi-body resonance decays and mini-jets. The characteristics of the one-, two-, and three-dimensional…
Short range correlations of identified charged hadrons in pp ($\sqrt{s} =$ 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV), pPb ($\sqrt{s_{_\mathrm{NN}}} =$ 5.02 TeV), and peripheral PbPb collisions ($\sqrt{s_{_\mathrm{NN}}} =$ 2.76 TeV) are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. Charged pions, kaons, and protons at low momentum and in laboratory pseudorapidity $|η| < 1$ are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The two-particle correlation functions show effects of quantum statistics, Coulomb interaction, and also indicate the role of multi-body resonance decays and mini-jets. The characteristics…
Femtoscopic correlations with the particle pair combinations K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^0_{\rm S}$ and K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^\pm$ are studied in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ and $13$ TeV by the ALICE experiment. At both energies, boson source parameters are extracted for both pair combinations, by fitting models based on Gaussian size distributions of the sources, to the measured two-particle correlation functions. The interaction model used for the K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^0_{\rm S}$ analysis includes quantum statistics and strong final-state interactions through the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances. The model…
In quantum scattering processes between two particles, aspects characterizing the strong and Coulomb forces can be observed in kinematic distributions of the particle pairs. The sensitivity to the interaction potential reaches a maximum at low relative momentum and vanishing distance between the two particles. Ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at the LHC provide an abundant source of many hadron species and can be employed as a measurement method of scattering parameters that is complementary to scattering experiments. This study confirms that momentum correlations of particles produced i…
The first measurements of the scattering parameters of $Λ$K pairs in all three charge combinations ($Λ$K$^{+}$, $Λ$K$^{-}$, and $Λ\mathrm{K^{0}_{S}}$) are presented. The results are achieved through a femtoscopic analysis of $Λ$K correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 2.76 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. The femtoscopic correlations result from strong final-state interactions, and are fit with a parametrization allowing for both the characterization of the pair emission source and the measurement of the scattering parameters for the particle pairs. Extensive studies w…
The ALICE TPC provides excellent charged particle tracking for the study of pp and Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. The TPC also allows particle identification via the measurement of the specific ionisation dE/dx. At high pT (pT > 3 GeV/c) this is accomplished in the region of the relativistic rise of the energy loss. From the energy loss distributions the yields of charged pions, kaons, and protons can be determined in bins of pT and pT-spectra are constructed. Here we present the performance of such an analysis in pp collisions at 7 TeV for charged pions up to 10 GeV/c.
The ALICE collaboration at the LHC has measured the transverse momentum spectra of neutral pions via their two photon decay in pp and Pb$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV over a broad transverse momentum range with different subsystems: with the electromagnetic calorimeters PHOS and EMCAL and with photon conversions in the inner material of the detectors using $e^{+}e^{-}$ pairs reconstructed with the Central Tracking System. In this report, neutral pions production is compared between pp and Pb$-$Pb collisions measured with conversion photons in terms of the nuclear modification fac…
By studying the balance functions of several hadronic species, one can gain insight into the chem-ical evolution of the Quark \textendash Gluon Plasma and radial flow. In a picture of early hadronisation, pairs of particles and anti-particles (created at the same space \textendash time point) are separated furtherin rapidity due to the higher initial temperature and diffusive interactions with other particles. Therefore delayed hadronisation will lead to strong correlations in rapidity in the final state. In this work, balance functions for identified charged-pion pairs measured by the ALICE det…
Light flavour transverse momentum spectra at intermediate and high pT provide an important baseline for the measurement of perturbative QCD processes in pp, for the evaluation of initial state effects in p-Pb, and for investigating the suppression from parton energy loss in Pb-Pb collisions. The measurement of the nuclear modification factor RpPb for inclusive charged particles is extended up to 50 GeV/c in pT compared to our previous measurement and remains consistent with unity up the largest momenta. Results on RpPb of charged pions, kaons and protons that cover up to 14 GeV/c in pT are pre…
We report on the studies of two-particle angular correlations measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. Two-particle correlations in relative azimuth (Δϕ) and pseudorapidity (Δη) are expected to exhibit several structures which arise from different physics mechanisms and allow us to study the wide landscape of correlations. The results include the dependence of the correlation function on the event multiplicity, the charge combination and species (pions, kaons or protons) of particles in the pair.
For Run 4, ALICE is pioneering the construction of truly cylindrical tracking layers, which will improve the measurements of heavy-flavour hadrons and dielectrons. In addition, a Forward Calorimeter (FoCal) for the measurement of direct photons is being developed to access the gluon distributions of nucleons and nuclei at low $x$. For Run 5 and beyond, ALICE 3 is proposed. It combines a unique high-resolution vertex detector with a silicon pixel tracker and modern particle identification solutions over a large acceptance. This will permit heavy-flavour and dielectron measurements with unpreced…
In late 2017, the ALICE experiment recorded a data sample of Xe--Xe collisions at the unprecedented energy in A--A systems of $\sqrt{s_{\rm{NN}}} = 5.44\text{ TeV}$. The $p_{\rm T}$ spectra at mid-rapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) of pions, kaons and protons are presented. The preliminary $p_{\rm T}$ spectra are obtained by combining independent analyses with the Inner Tracking System (ITS), the Time Projection Chamber (TPC), and the Time-Of-Flight (TOF) detectors. This paper focuses on the details of the analysis performed with TOF and in particular on the performance implications of the special Xe--Xe …
Multiplicity-dependent measurements of identified particle production led to the discovery of collective-like behavior in pp collisions at the LHC. Better understanding of the effects attributed to well-understood physics, like multiple hard scatterings, is required to establish whether this behaviour is truly collective in origin. Experimentally, those effects can be controlled using event shapes, like transverse spherocity, which allows the classification of pp collisions either as jetty or isotropic events. The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra of light-flavor hadrons in pp collisio…
