A polar coding scheme for interference networks is introduced. The scheme combines Arikan's monotone chain rules for multiple-access channels and a method by Hassani and Urbanke to 'align' two incompatible polarization processes. It achieves the Han--Kobayashi inner bound for two-user interference channels and generalizes to interference networks.
The paper studies a class of three user Gaussian interference channels. A new layered lattice coding scheme is introduced as a transmission strategy. The use of lattice codes allows for an "alignment" of the interference observed at each receiver. The layered lattice coding is shown to achieve more than one degree of freedom for a class of interference channels and also achieves rates which are better than the rates obtained using the Han-Kobayashi coding scheme.
Existing polar coding schemes for the two-user interference channel follow the original idea of Han and Kobayashi, in which component messages are encoded independently and then mapped by some deterministic functions (i.e., homogeneous superposition coding). In this paper, we propose a new polar coding scheme for the interference channel based on the heterogeneous superposition coding approach of Chong, Motani and Garg. We prove that fully-joint decoding (the receivers simultaneously decode both senders' common messages and the intended sender's private message) in the Han-Kobayashi strategy c…
We explore degrees of freedom (DoF) characterizations of partially connected wireless networks, especially cellular networks, with no channel state information at the transmitters. Specifically, we introduce three fundamental elements --- aligned frequency reuse, wireless index coding and interference diversity --- through a series of examples, focusing first on infinite regular arrays, then on finite clusters with arbitrary connectivity and message sets, and finally on heterogeneous settings with asymmetric multiple antenna configurations. Aligned frequency reuse refers to the optimality of o…
This paper considers the problem of network coding for multiple unicast connections in networks represented by directed acyclic graphs. The concept of interference alignment, traditionally used in interference networks, is extended to analyze the performance of linear network coding in this setup and to provide a systematic code design approach. It is shown that, for a broad class of three-source three-destination unicast networks, a rate corresponding to half the individual source-destination min-cut is achievable via alignment strategies.
In this paper, we propose a low-complexity, secrecy capacity achieving polar coding scheme for the cognitive interference channel with confidential messages (CICC) under the strong secrecy criterion. Existing polar coding schemes for interference channels rely on the use of polar codes for the multiple access channel, the code construction problem of which can be complicated. We show that the whole secrecy capacity region of the CICC can be achieved by simple point-to-point polar codes due to the cognitivity, and our proposed scheme requires the minimum rate of randomness at the encoder.
A Han-Kobayashi based achievable scheme is presented for ergodic fading two-user Gaussian interference channels (IFCs) with perfect channel state information at all nodes and Gaussian codebooks with no time-sharing. Using max-min optimization techniques, it is shown that jointly coding across all states performs at least as well as separable coding for the sub-classes of uniformly weak (every sub-channel is weak) and hybrid (mix of strong and weak sub-channels that do not achieve the interference-free sum-capacity) IFCs. For the uniformly weak IFCs, sufficient conditions are obtained for which…
A low-complexity coding scheme is developed to achieve the rate region of maximum likelihood decoding for interference channels. As in the classical rate-splitting multiple access scheme by Grant, Rimoldi, Urbanke, and Whiting, the proposed coding scheme uses superposition of multiple codewords with successive cancellation decoding, which can be implemented using standard point-to-point encoders and decoders. Unlike rate-splitting multiple access, which is not rate-optimal for multiple receivers, the proposed coding scheme transmits codewords over multiple blocks in a staggered manner and reco…
In this paper, we propose a new coding scheme for symmetric Gaussian interference channels with feedback based on the ideas of time-varying coding schemes. The proposed scheme improves the Suh-Tse and Kramer inner bounds of the channel capacity for the cases of weak and not very strong interference. This improvement is more significant when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is not very high. It is shown theoretically and numerically that our coding scheme can outperform the Kramer code. In addition, the generalized degrees-of-freedom of our proposed coding scheme is equal to the Suh-Tse scheme i…
We consider the problem of linear network coding over communication networks, representable by directed acyclic graphs, with multiple groupcast sessions: the network comprises of multiple destination nodes, each desiring messages from multiple sources. We adopt an interference alignment perspective, providing new insights into designing practical network coding schemes as well as the impact of network topology on the complexity of the alignment scheme. In particular, we show that under certain (polynomial-time checkable) constraints on networks with $K$ sources, it is possible to achieve a rat…
This paper investigates the achievability of the interference channel coding. It is clarified that the rate-splitting technique is unnecessary to achieve Han-Kobayashi and Jian-Xin-Garg inner regions. Codes are constructed by using sparse matrices (with logarithmic column degree) and the constrained-random-number generators. By extending the problem, we can establish a possible extension of known inner regions.
This work studies linear interference networks, both wired and wireless, with no channel state information at the transmitters (CSIT) except a coarse knowledge of the end-to-end one-hop topology of the network that only allows a distinction between weak (zero) and significant (non-zero) channels and no further knowledge of the channel coefficients' realizations. The network capacity (wired) and DoF (wireless) are found to be bounded above by the capacity of an index coding problem for which the antidote graph is the complement of the given interference graph. The problems are shown to be equiv…
A general time-varying feedback coding scheme is proposed for $M$-user fully connected symmetric Gaussian interference channels. Based on the analysis of the general coding scheme, we prove a theorem which gives a criterion for designing good time-varying feedback codes for Gaussian interference channels. The proposed scheme improves the Suh-Tse and Kramer inner bounds of the channel capacity for the cases of weak and not very strong interference when $M=2$. This capacity improvement is more significant when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is not very high. In addition, our coding scheme can b…
A rateless transmission architecture is developed for communication over Gaussian intersymbol interference channels, based on the concept of super-Nyquist (SNQ) signaling. In such systems, the signaling rate is chosen significantly higher than the Nyquist rate of the system. We show that such signaling, when used in conjunction with good "off-the-shelf" base codes, simple linear redundancy, and minimum mean-square error decision feedback equalization, results in capacity-approaching, low-complexity rateless codes for the time-varying intersymbol-interference channel. Constructions for both sin…
This paper is about deriving lower bounds on the error exponents for the two-user interference channel under the random coding regime for several ensembles. Specifically, we first analyze the standard random coding ensemble, where the codebooks are comprised of independently and identically distributed (i.i.d.) codewords. For this ensemble, we focus on optimum decoding, which is in contrast to other, suboptimal decoding rules that have been used in the literature (e.g., joint typicality decoding, treating interference as noise, etc.). The fact that the interfering signal is a codeword, rather …
In this paper, we study network coding capacity for random wireless networks. Previous work on network coding capacity for wired and wireless networks have focused on the case where the capacities of links in the network are independent. In this paper, we consider a more realistic model, where wireless networks are modeled by random geometric graphs with interference and noise. In this model, the capacities of links are not independent. We consider two scenarios, single source multiple destinations and multiple sources multiple destinations. In the first scenario, employing coupling and martin…
Dirty paper coding (DPC) allows a transmitter to send information to a receiver in the presence of interference that is known (non-causally) to the transmitter. The original version of DPC was derived for the case where the noise and the interference are statistically independent Gaussian random sequences. More recent works extended this approach to the case where the noise and the interference are mutually independent and at least one of them is Gaussian. In this letter we further extend the DPC scheme by relaxing the Gaussian and statistical independence assumptions. We provide lower bounds …
We study opportunistic interference management when there is bursty interference in parallel 2-user linear deterministic interference channels. A degraded message set communication problem is formulated to exploit the burstiness of interference in M subcarriers allocated to each user. We focus on symmetric rate requirements based on the number of interfered subcarriers rather than the exact set of interfered subcarriers. Inner bounds are obtained using erasure coding, signal-scale alignment and Han-Kobayashi coding strategy. Tight outer bounds for a variety of regimes are obtained using the El…
The use of active narrow-band interference (NBI) suppression in direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) communications has been extensively studied. In this paper, we address the problem of optimum coding-spreading tradeoff for NBI suppression. With maximum likelihood decoding, we first derive upper bounds on the error probability of coded systems in the presence of a special class of NBI, namely, multi-tone interference with orthogonal signatures. By employing the well-developed bounding techniques, we show there is no advantage in spreading, and hence a low-rate full coding approach is alway…
In this paper, inner and outer bounds on the capacity region of two-user interference channels with two confidential messages have been proposed. By adding secure multiplex coding to the error correction method in [15] which achieves the best achievable capacity region for interference channel up to now, we have shown that the improved secure capacity region compared with [2] now is the whole Han-Kobayashi region. In addition, this construction not only removes the rate loss incurred by adding dummy messages to achieve security, but also change the original weak security condition in [2] to st…
The interference channel with degraded message sets (IC-DMS) refers to a communication model in which two senders attempt to communicate with their respective receivers simultaneously through a common medium, and one of the senders has complete and a priori (non-causal) knowledge about the message being transmitted by the other. A coding scheme that collectively has advantages of cooperative coding, collaborative coding, and dirty paper coding, is developed for such a channel. With resorting to this coding scheme, achievable rate regions of the IC-DMS in both discrete memoryless and Gaussian c…
The index coding problem is studied from an interference alignment perspective, providing new results as well as new insights into, and generalizations of, previously known results. An equivalence is established between multiple unicast index coding where each message is desired by exactly one receiver, and multiple groupcast index coding where a message can be desired by multiple receivers, which settles the heretofore open question of insufficiency of linear codes for the multiple unicast index coding problem by equivalence with multiple groupcast settings where this question has previously …
A single unicast index coding problem (SUICP) with symmetric neighboring interference (SNI) has equal number of $K$ messages and $K$ receivers, the $k$th receiver $R_{k}$ wanting the $k$th message $x_{k}$ and having the side-information $\mathcal{K}_{k}=(\mathcal{I}_{k} \cup x_{k})^c,$ where ${I}_k= \{x_{k-U},\dots,x_{k-2},x_{k-1}\}\cup\{x_{k+1}, x_{k+2},\dots,x_{k+D}\}$ is the interference with $D$ messages after and $U$ messages before its desired message. Maleki, Cadambe and Jafar obtained the capacity of this symmetric neighboring interference single unicast index coding problem (SNI-SUICP…
This work investigates the general two-user Compound Broadcast Channel (BC) where an encoder wishes to transmit common and private messages to two receivers while being oblivious to two possible channel realizations controlling the communication. The focus is on the characterization of the largest achievable rate region by resorting to more evolved encoding and decoding techniques than the conventional coding for the standard BC. The role of the decoder is first explored, and an achievable rate region is derived based on the principle of "Interference Decoding" (ID) where each receiver decodes…
We study the joint source-channel coding problem of transmitting a discrete-time analog source over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with interference known at transmitter. We consider the case when the source and the interference are correlated. We first derive an outer bound on the achievable distortion and then, we propose two joint source-channel coding schemes. The first scheme is the superposition of the uncoded signal and a digital part which is the concatenation of a Wyner-Ziv encoder and a dirty paper encoder. In the second scheme, the digital part is replaced by the hyb…
The generalized degrees of freedom (GDoF) of the symmetric two-user Gaussian interference relay channel (IRC) is studied. While it is known that the relay does not increase the DoF of the IC, this is not known for the more general GDoF. For the characterization of the GDoF, new sum-capacity upper bounds and lower bounds are derived. The lower bounds are obtained by a new scheme, which is based on functional decode-and-forward (FDF). The GDoF is characterized for the regime in which the source-relay link is weaker than the interference link, which constitutes half the overall space of channel p…
In this paper, we first study a two-user interference channel with generalized feedback. We establish an inner bound on its capacity region. The coding scheme that we employ for the inner bound is based on an appropriate combination of Han-Kobayash rate splitting and compress-and-forward at the senders. Each sender compresses the channel output that is observes using a compression scheme that is à-la Lim et al. noisy network coding and Avestimeher et al. quantize-map-and-forward. Next, we study an injective deterministic model in which the senders obtain output feedback only intermittently. Sp…
In this paper, we study the capacity of the two-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) linear deterministic interference channel (IC), with possible correlations within/between the channel matrices. The capacity region is characterized in terms of the rank of the channel matrices. It is shown that \emph{linear precoding} with Han-Kobayashi type of rate-splitting, i.e., splitting the information-bearing symbols of each user into common and private parts, is sufficient to achieve all the rate pairs in the derived capacity region. The capacity result is applied to obtain an achievable rate re…
In order to meet the demands of `Internet above the clouds', we propose a multiple-antenna aided adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) for aeronautical communications. The proposed ACM scheme switches its coding and modulation mode according to the distance between the communicating aircraft, which is readily available with the aid of the airborne radar or the global positioning system. We derive an asymptotic closed-form expression of the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as the number of transmitting antennas tends to infinity, in the presence of realistic co-channel interference…
Physical layer network coding (PNC) has been proposed for next generation networks. In this contribution, we investigate PNC schemes with embedded perfect secrecy by exploiting structured interference in relay networks with two users and a single relay. In a practical scenario where both users employ finite and uniform signal input distributions we propose upper bounds (UBs) on the achievable perfect secrecy rates and make these explicit when PAM modems are used. We then describe two simple, explicit encoders that can achieve perfect secrecy rates close to these UBs with respect to an untrustw…
A coding scheme is proposed for the memoryless Gaussian broadcast channel with correlated noises and feedback. For all noise correlations other than -1, the gap between the sum-rate the scheme achieves and the full-cooperation bound vanishes as the signal-to-noise ratio tends to infinity. When the correlation coefficient is -1, the gains afforded by feedback are unbounded and the prelog is doubled. When the correlation coefficient is +1 we demonstrate a dichotomy: If the noise variances are equal, then feedback is useless, and otherwise, feedback affords unbounded rate gains and doubles the pr…
For a discrete memoryless channel with non-causal state information available only at the encoder, it is well-known that Gelfand-Pinsker coding achieves its capacity. In this paper, we analyze Gelfand-Pinsker coding scheme and capacity to bring out further understandings. We show that Gelfand-Pinsker capacity is equal to the interference-free capacity. Thus the capacity of a channel with non-causal state information available only at the encoder is the same as if the state information is also available at the decoder. Furthermore, the capacity-achieving conditional input distributions in these…
This paper considers the cognitive interference channel (CIC) with two transmitters and two receivers, in which the cognitive transmitter non-causally knows the message and codeword of the primary transmitter. We first introduce a discrete memoryless more capable CIC, which is an extension to the more capable broadcast channel (BC). Using superposition coding, we propose an inner bound and an outer bound on its capacity region. The outer bound is also valid when the primary user is under strong interference. For the Gaussian CIC, this outer bound applies for $|a| \geq 1 $, where $a$ is the gai…
Reminiscent of the parity function in network coding for the butterfly network, it is shown that forwarding an even/odd indicator bit for a scalar quantization of a relay observation recovers 1 bit of information at the two destinations in a noiseless interference channel where interference is treated as noise. Based on this observation, a coding strategy is proposed to improve the rate of both users at the same time using a relay node in an interference channel. In this strategy, the relay observes a linear combination of the two source signals, and broadcasts a common message to the two dest…
We study the capacity of discrete memoryless many-to-one interference channels, i.e., K user interference channels where only one receiver faces interference. For a class of many-to-one interference channels, we identify a noisy interference regime, i.e., a regime where random coding and treating interference as noise achieves sum-capacity. Specializing our results to the Gaussian MIMO many-to-one interference channel, which is a special case of the class of channels considered, we obtain new capacity results. Firstly, we extend the noisy interference regime, previously studied for (many-to-on…
A single unicast index coding problem (SUICP) with symmetric and consecutive interference (SCI) has $K$ messages and $K$ receivers, the $k$th receiver $R_k$ wanting the $k$th message $x_k$ and having interference $\mathcal{I}_k= \{x_{k-U-m},\dots,x_{k-m-2},x_{k-m-1}\}\cup\{x_{k+m+1}, x_{k+m+2},\dots,x_{k+m+D}\}$ and side-information $\mathcal{K}_k=(\mathcal{I}_k \cup x_k)^c$. In this paper, we derive a lowerbound on the broadcast rate of single unicast index coding problem with symmetric and consecutive interference (SUICP(SCI)). In the SUICP(SCI), if $m=0$, we refer this as single unicast ind…
In this paper, the Interference Network with General Message Sets (IN-GMS) is introduced in which several transmitters send messages to several receivers: Each subset of transmitters transmit an individual message to each subset of receivers. For such a general scenario, an achievability scheme is presented using the random coding. This scheme is systematically built based on the capacity achieving scheme for the Multiple Access Channel (MAC) with common message as well as the best known achievability scheme for the Broadcast Channel (BC) with common message. A graphical illustration of the ra…
In this paper, we study the state-dependent two-user interference channel, where the state information is non-causally known at both transmitters but unknown to either of the receivers. We first propose two coding schemes for the discrete memoryless case: simultaneous encoding for the sub-messages in the first one and superposition encoding in the second one, both with rate splitting and Gel'fand-Pinsker coding. The corresponding achievable rate regions are established. Moreover, for the Gaussian case, we focus on the simultaneous encoding scheme and propose an \emph{active interference cancel…
In this paper, we propose a signal-aligned network coding (SNC) scheme for K-user time-varying multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channels with limited receiver cooperation. We assume that the receivers are connected to a central processor via wired cooperation links with individual limited capacities. Our SNC scheme determines the precoding matrices of the transmitters so that the transmitted signals are aligned at each receiver. The aligned signals are then decoded into noiseless integer combinations of messages, also known as network-coded messages, by physical-layer network…

The two-user interference channel is a model for multi one-to-one communications, where two transmitters wish to communicate with their corresponding receivers via a shared wireless medium. Two most common and simple coding schemes are time division (TD) and treating interference as noise (TIN). Interestingly, it is shown that there exists an asymptotic scheme, called Han-Kobayashi scheme, that performs better than TD and TIN. However, Han-Kobayashi scheme has impractically high complexity and is designed for asymptotic settings, which leads to a gap between information theory and practice. In…
Linear index coding can be formulated as an interference alignment problem, in which precoding vectors of the minimum possible length are to be assigned to the messages in such a way that the precoding vector of a demand (at some receiver) is independent of the space of the interference (non side-information) precoding vectors. An index code has rate $\frac{1}{l}$ if the assigned vectors are of length $l$. In this paper, we introduce the notion of strictly rate $\frac{1}{L}$ message subsets which must necessarily be allocated precoding vectors from a strictly $L$-dimensional space ($L=1,2,3$) …
The best known inner bound for the 2-user discrete memoryless interference channel is the Han-Kobayashi rate region. The coding schemes that achieve this region are based on rate-splitting and superposition coding. In this paper, we develop a multicoding scheme to achieve the same rate region. A key advantage of the multicoding nature of the proposed coding scheme is that it can be naturally extended to more general settings, such as when encoders have state information or can overhear each other. In particular, we extend our coding scheme to characterize the capacity region of the state-depen…
In this paper, we propose a Polar coding scheme for parallel Gaussian channels. The encoder knows the sum rate of the parallel channels but does not know the rate of any channel. By using the nesting property of Polar code, we design a coding/decoding scheme to achieve the sum rates.
This paper investigates the Gaussian state-dependent interference channel (IC) and Z-IC, in which two receivers are corrupted respectively by two different but correlated states that are noncausally known to two transmitters but are unknown to the receivers. Three interference regimes are studied, and the capacity region boundary or the sum capacity boundary is characterized either fully or partially under various channel pa- rameters. In particular, the impact of the correlation between states on cancellation of state and interference as well as achievability of capacity is explored with nume…
Zero-delay transmission of a Gaussian source over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered in the presence of an additive Gaussian interference signal. The mean squared error (MSE) distortion is minimized under an average power constraint assuming that the interference signal is known at the transmitter. Optimality of simple linear transmission does not hold in this setting due to the presence of the known interference signal. While the optimal encoder-decoder pair remains an open problem, various non-linear transmission schemes are proposed in this paper. In particular, i…
Physical layer network coding (PLNC) has the potential to improve throughput of multi-hop networks. However, most of the works are focused on the simple, three-node model with two-way relaying, not taking into account the fact that there can be other neighboring nodes that can cause/receive interference. The way to deal with this problem in distributed wireless networks is usage of MAC-layer mechanisms that make a spatial reservation of the shared wireless medium, similar to the well-known RTS/CTS in IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. In this paper, we investigate two-way relaying in presence of i…
Resistive random-access memory (ReRAM) is a promising candidate for the next generation non-volatile memory technology due to its simple read/write operations and high storage density. However, its crossbar array structure causes a severe interference effect known as the "sneak path." In this paper, we propose channel coding techniques that can mitigate both the sneak-path interference and the channel noise. The main challenge is that the sneak-path interference is data-dependent, and also correlated within a memory array, and hence the conventional error correction coding scheme will be inade…
We show that polar codes can be used to achieve the rate-distortion functions in the problem of hierarchical source coding also known as the successive refinement problem. We also analyze the distributed version of this problem, constructing a polar coding scheme that achieves the rate distortion functions for successive refinement with side information.
The single unicast index coding problem with symmetric neighboring interference (SUICP-SNI) is motivated by topological interference mana…
In a multihop wireless network, wireless interference is crucial to the maximum multiflow (MMF) problem, which studies the maximum throughput between multiple pairs of sources and sinks. In this paper, we observe that network coding could help to decrease the impacts of wireless interference, and propose a framework to study the MMF problem for multihop wireless networks with network coding. Firstly, a network model is set up to describe the new conflict relations modified by network coding. Then, we formulate a linear programming problem to compute the maximum throughput and show its superior…
Linear-assignment Gel'fand-Pinsker coding (LA-GPC) is a coding technique for channels with interference known only at the transmitter, where the known interference is treated as side-information (SI). As a special case of LA-GPC, dirty paper coding has been shown to be able to achieve the optimal interference-free rate for interference channels with perfect channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). In the cases where only the channel distribution information at the transmitter (CDIT) is available, LA-GPC also has good (sometimes optimal) performance in a variety of fast and slow fad…
We develop practical coding schemes for the cognitive overlay radios as modeled by the cognitive interference channel, a variation of the classical two user interference channel where one of the transmitters has knowledge of both messages. Inspired by information theoretical results, we develop a coding strategy for each of the three parameter regimes where capacity is known. A key feature of the capacity achieving schemes in these regimes is the joint decoding of both users' codewords, which we accomplish by performing a posteriori probability calculation over a combined trellis. The schemes …
In this paper, we study the state-dependent two-user interference channel, where the state information is non-causally known at both transmitters but unknown to either of the receivers. We propose two coding schemes for the discrete memoryless case: simultaneous encoding for the sub-messages in the first one and superposition encoding in the second one, both with rate splitting and Gel'fand-Pinsker coding. The corresponding achievable rate regions are established.
Arıkan's polar coding, is by now a well studied technique that allows achieving the symmetric capacity of binary input memoryless channels with low complexity encoding and decoding, provided that the polar decoding architecture is used and the decoding metric is matched to the true channel. In this paper, we analyze communication rates that are achievable when the polar coding/decoding architecture is used with the decoder using an incorrect model of the channel. We define the `polar mismatched capacity' as an analogue of the classical mismatched capacity, give an expression for it, and derive…
In this paper, we propose an achievable rate region for discrete memoryless interference channels with conferencing at the transmitter side. We employ superposition block Markov encoding, combined with simultaneous superposition coding, dirty paper coding, and random binning to obtain the achievable rate region. We show that, under respective conditions, the proposed achievable region reduces to Han and Kobayashi achievable region for interference channels, the capacity region for degraded relay channels, and the capacity region for the Gaussian vector broadcast channel. Numerical examples for…
This paper elaborates on the achievable schemes of interference alignment in constant channels via finite amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. Consider $K$ sources communicating with $K$ destinations without direct links besides the relay connections. The total number of relays is finite. The objective is to achieve interference alignment for all user pairs to obtain half of their interference-free degrees of freedom. In general, two strategies are employed: coding at the edge and coding in the middle, in which relays show different roles. The contributions are that two fundamental and critical el…
We present a framework to study linear deterministic interference networks over finite fields. Unlike the popular linear deterministic models introduced to study Gaussian networks, we consider networks where the channel coefficients are general scalars over some extension field $\FF_{p^m}$ (scalar $m$-th extension-field models), $m \times m$ diagonal matrices over $\FF_p$ ($m$-symbol extension ground-field models), and $m \times m$ general non-singular matrices (MIMO ground field models). We use the companion matrix representation of the extension field to convert $m$-th extension scalar model…
In this paper, we consider the discrete memoryless interference channel with common information, in which two senders need deliver not only private messages but also certain common messages to their corresponding receivers. We derive an achievable rate region for such a channel by exploiting a random coding strategy, namely cascaded superposition coding. We reveal that the derived achievable rate region generalizes some important existing results for the interference channels with or without common information. Furthermore, we specialize to a class of deterministic interference channels with c…
The role of cooperation in managing interference - a fundamental feature of the wireless channel - is investigated by studying the two-user Gaussian interference channel where the source nodes can both transmit and receive in full-duplex. The sum-capacity of this channel is obtained within a gap of a constant number of bits. The coding scheme used builds up on the superposition scheme of Han and Kobayashi (1981) for the two-user interference channel without cooperation. New upperbounds on the sum-capacity are also derived. The same coding scheme is shown to obtain the sum-capacity of the symme…
