The temperature and magnetic field dependence of lattice and carrier excitations in MnSi is studied in detail using inelastic light scattering. The pure symmetry components of the electronic response are derived from the polarization dependent spectra. The $E$ and $T_2$ responses agree by and large with longitudinal and optical transport data. However, an anomaly is observed right above the magnetic ordering temperature $T_{\rm C}=29\,{\rm K}$ that is associated with the fluctuations that drive the transition into the helimagnetic phase first order. The $T_1$ spectra, reflecting mostly chiral spin excitations, have a temperature dependence similar to that of the $E$ and $T_2$ symmetries. The response in the fully symmetric $A$ representation has a considerably weaker temperature dependence than that in the other symmetries. All nine Raman active phonon lines can be resolved at low temperature. The positions and line widths of the strongest four lines in $E$ and $T_2$ symmetry are analyzed in the temperature range $4<T<310\,{\rm K}$. Above $50\,{\rm K}$, the temperature dependence is found to be conventional and given by anharmonic phonon decay and the lattice expansion. Distinct anomalies are observed in the range of the helimagnetic transition and in the ordered phase. Applying a magnetic field of $4\,{\rm T}$, well above the critical field, removes all anomalies and restores a conventional behavior highlighting the relationship between the anomalies and magnetism. The anomaly directly above $T_{\rm C}$ in the fluctuation range goes along with an anomaly in the thermal expansion. While the lattice constant changes continuously and has only a kink at $T_{\rm C}$, all optical phonons soften abruptly suggesting a direct microscopic coupling between spin order and optical phonons rather than a reaction to magnetostriction effects.
We present a study of the magnetoresistivity of thin film MnSi in high magnetic fields. We establish that the magnetoresistivity can be understood in terms of spin fluctuation theory, allowing us to compare our data to studies of bulk material. Despite of a close qualitative resemblance of bulk and thin film data, there are clear quantitative differences. We propose that these reflect a difference of the spin fluctuation spectra in thin film and bulk material MnSi.
Due to increased interest in the unusual magnetic and transport behavior of MnSi and its possible relation to its crystal structure (B20) which has unusual coordination and lacks inversion symmetry, we provide a detailed analysis of the electronic and magnetic structure of MnSi. The non-symmorphic P2_13 spacegroup leads to unusual fourfold degenerate states at the zone corner R point, as well as ``sticking'' of pairs of bands throughout the entire Brillouin zone surface. The resulting Fermi surface acquires unusual features as a result of the band sticking. For the ferromagnetic system (neglec…
The temperature dependence of the manganese magnetic moment and the spin-lattice relaxation rate measured by the muon spin relaxation technique in the magnetically ordered phase of the chiral intermetallic cubic MnSi system are both explained in terms of helimagnon excitations of a localized spin model. The two free parameters characterizing the helimagnon dispersion relation are determined. A combined analysis of the two data sets cannot be achieved using the self-consistent renormalization theory of spin fluctuations which assumes the magnetism of MnSi to arise uniquely from electronic bands…
Outstanding crystalline perfection is a key requirement for the formation of new forms of electronic order in a vast number of widely different materials. Whereas excellent sample quality represents a standard claim in the literature, there are, quite generally, no reliable microscopic probes to establish the nature and concentration of lattice defects such as voids, dislocations and different species of point defects on the level relevant to the length and energy scales inherent to these new forms of order. Here we report an experimental study of the archetypical skyrmion-lattice compound MnS…
MnSi has been extensively studied for five decades, nonetheless detailed information on the Fermi surface (FS) symmetry is still lacking. This missed information prevented from a comprehensive understanding the nature of the magnetic interaction in this material. Here, by performing angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy on high-quality MnSi films epitaxially grown on Si(111), we unveil the FS symmetry and the evolution of the electronic structure across the paramagnetic-helimagnetic transition at T$_C$ $\sim$ 40 K, along with the appearance of sharp quasiparticle emission below T$_C$. The …
The magnetic phase diagram $T_c(P)$ of the weak itinerant helimagnetic compound MnSi is reviewed upon a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) experiment. We present a systematic study on the evolution of the NMR spin echo signal at $T=1.4$ K of the non-magnetic silicone sites, $^{29}$Si, up to 17.8 kbar. The pressure effect is interpreted as a weak variation of the local electronic spin polarization and the coexistence of magnetic and non magnetic Mn atoms under pressure. From the volume dependence of $f_0$ ($P$), we show notably that a local magnetic order remains above the critical pressure of $P…
The microscopic magnetism in the helical, the conical and the ferro-magnetically polarized phases in an itinerant helical magnet, MnSi, has been studied by an extended 29Si NMR at zero field and under external magnetic fields. The temperature dependence of staggered moment, M_Q(T), determined by the 29Si NMR frequency, nu(T), and nuclear relaxation rate, 1/T_1(T) is in general accord with the SCR theory for weak itinerant ferromagnetic metals and its extension. The external field dependence of resonance frequency, nu(H), follows a vector sum of the contributions from atomic hyperfine and macro…
We investigate the effects of electronic correlations in the full-Heusler Co$_2$MnSi, by combining a theoretical analysis of the spin-resolved density of states with tunneling-conductance spectroscopy measurements using Co$_2$MnSi as electrode. Both experimental and theoretical results confirm the existence of so-called non-quasiparticle states and their crucial contribution to the finite-temperature spin polarisation in this material.
We present an experimental study of the electronic structure of MnSi. Using X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy, X-ray photoemission and X-ray fluorescence we provide experimental evidence that MnSi has a mixed valence ground state. We show that self consistent LDA supercell calculations cannot replicate the XAS spectra of MnSi, while a good match is achieved within the atomic multiplet theory assuming a mixed valence ground state. We discuss the role of the electron-electron interactions in this compound and estimate that the valence fluctuations are suppressed by a factor of 2.5, which means that …
A theory of electronic Raman scattering in nearly antiferromagnetic Fermi liquids is constructed using the phenomenological electron-electron interaction introduced by Millis, Monien, and Pines. The role of "hot spots" and their resulting signatures in the channel dependent Raman spectra is highlighted, and different scaling regimes are addressed. The theory is compared to Raman spectra taken in the normal state of overdoped Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2}$CaCu$_{2}$O$_{8+δ}$, and it is shown that many features of the symmetry dependent spectra can be explained by the theory.
We explain quantitatively why resonant Raman scattering spectroscopy, an extensively used experimental tool in studying elementary electronic excitations in doped low dimensional semiconductor nanostructures, always produces an observable peak at the so-called "single particle" excitation although the standard theory predicts that there should be no such single particle peak in the Raman spectra. We have thus resolved an experimental puzzle which dates back more than twenty-five years.
We measured the optical signature of the charge density waves (CDWs) in the multiband conductor TTF[Ni(dmit)2]2 by electronic Raman scattering. At low energies, a hump develops below 60 K. This hump is associated to the amplitude mode of the CDW with an energy around 9 meV. Raman symmetry-resolved measurements show that the CDW amplitude mode is anisotropic and that the CDW can be associated to the band nesting of Ni(dmit)2 chains.
We present a polarization-resolved and temperature-dependent Raman scattering study of AFe2As2 (A = Ca, Eu). In the spin-density-wave (SDW) phase, spectral weight redistribution is observed in the fully symmetric and non-symmetric scattering channels at different energies. An anisotropic Raman response is observed in the fully symmetric channel in spontaneously detwinned CaFe2As2 samples. We calculate the orbital-resolved electronic structures using a combination of density functional theory and dynamical mean field theory (DFT+DMFT). We identify the electronic transitions corresponding to the…
We investigate the electronic Raman scattering in pure, quasi-one dimensional conductors with density wave ground state. In particular, we develop the theory of light-scattering on spin and charge density waves, both conventional and unconventional. We calculate the electronic Raman response of the interacting electron system with a single, highly anisotropic conduction band. The calculation is carried out in the mean field approximation. Beside the quasiparticle contribution, the electron-electron interaction is also included on RPA level. The contribution of collective modes and the effect o…
Spin-orbit interaction in Sr$_2$IrO$_4$ leads to the realization of the $J_{\mathrm{eff}}$ = 1/2 state and also induces an insulating behavior. Using large-shift Raman spectroscopy, we found two high-energy excitations of the d-shell multipletat at 690 meV and 680 meV with $A_{1g}$ and $B_{1g}$ symmetry respectively. As temperature decreases, the $A_{1g}$ and $B_{1g}$ peaks narrow, and the $A_{1g}$ peak shifts to higher energy while the energy of the $B_{1g}$ peak remains the same. When 25$\%$ of Ir is substituted with Rh the $A_{1g}$ peak softens by 10$\%$ but the $B_{1g}$ peak does not. We s…
We report high pressure Raman experiments of Black phosphorus up to 24 GPa. The line widths of first order Raman modes A$^1_g$, B$_{2g}$ and A$^2_g$ of the orthorhombic phase show a minimum at 1.1 GPa. Our first-principles density functional analysis reveals that this is associated with the anomalies in electron-phonon coupling at the semiconductor to topological insulator transition through inversion of valence and conduction bands marking a change from trivial to nontrivial electronic topology. The frequencies of B$_{2g}$ and A$^2_g$ modes become anomalous in the rhombohedral phase at 7.4 GP…
The total electronic Raman scattering spectrum, including the nonresonant, mixed and resonant components, is determined for the charge-density-wave (CDW) phase of the spinless Falicov-Kimball model at half filling within dynamical mean-field theory. Its frequency dependence is investigated for different values of the energy of the incident photons. The spectra reflect the different structures in the density of states and how they are modified by screening and resonance effects. The calculations are performed for the $B_{\rm 1g}$, $B_{\rm 2g}$ and $A_{\rm 1g}$ symmetries (which are typically ex…
A theory of resonant Raman scattering spectroscopy of one dimensional electronic systems is developed on the assumptions that (i) the excitations of the one dimensional electronic system are described by the Luttinger Liquid model, (ii) Raman processes involve virtual excitations from a filled valence band to an empty state of the one dimensional electronic system and (iii) excitonic interactions between the valence and conduction bands may be neglected. Closed form analytic expressions are obtained for the Raman scattering cross sections, and are evaluated analytically and numerically for sca…
We compute Raman scattering intensities via the lowest-order coupling to the bosonic propagator associated with orbital nematic fluctuations in a minimal model for iron pnictides. The model consists of two bands on a square lattice exhibiting four Fermi pockets and a transition from the normal to a nematic state. It is shown that the orbital fluctuations produce in the B1g channel strong quasi-elastic light scattering around the nematic critical temperature Tn, both above and below Tn. This holds for the A1g symmetry only below Tn whereas no low-energy scattering from orbital fluctuations is f…
We report results of Raman scattering experiments on twin-free BaFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ with the main focus placed on understanding the influence of electronic and spin degrees of freedom on the lattice dynamics. In particular, we scrutinize the $E_g$ modes and the As $A_{1g}$ mode. Each of the two $E_g$ phonons in the tetragonal phase is observed to split into a $B_{2g}$ and a $B_{3g}$ mode upon entering the orthorhombic stripe-magnetic phase. The splitting amounts to approximately 10\,cm$^{-1}$ and less than 5\,cm$^{-1}$ for the low- and the high-energy $E_g$ mode, respectively. The detailed study…
In order to investigate the origin of the phase transition observed in NaV$_2$O$_5$, as well as its electronic structure, we have measured Raman intensities as a function of the laser wavelength above and below the phase transition temperature. In the polarized Raman spectra at room temperature we observe resonant enhancement of the 969 $cm^{-1}$ phonon mode when the laser energy approaches 2.7 eV, presumably related to the (p-d) electron hopping band, $O_3$($p_y$)-V($d_{xy}$), at 3.2 eV. The 969 $cm^{-1}$ mode originates from the stretching vibrations along the c-axis involving the V-$O_1$ bo…
We calculate the resonant electronic Raman scattering for the Falicov-Kimball model near the Mott transition on a hypercubic lattice. The solution is exact, and employs dynamical mean field theory.
Nonlinear processes involving frequency-mixing of light fields set the basis for ultrafast coherent spectroscopy of collective modes in solids. In certain semimetals and semiconductors, generation of coherent phonon modes can occur by a displacive force on the lattice at the difference-frequency mixing of a laser pulse excitation on the electronic system. Here, as a low-frequency counterpart of this process, we demonstrate that coherent phonon excitations can be induced by the sum-frequency components of an intense terahertz light field, coupled to intraband electronic transitions. This nonlin…
A field theory appropriate for magnets that display helical order due to the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya mechanism, a class that includes MnSi and FeGe, is used to derive the phase diagram in a mean-field approximation. The helical phase, the conical phase in an external magnetic field, and recent proposals for the structure of the A-phase and the non-Fermi-liquid region in the paramagnetic phase are discussed. It is shown that the orientation of the helical pitch vector along an external magnetic field within the conical phase occurs via two distinct phase transitions. The Goldstone modes that resul…
We present an exact solution for electronic Raman scattering in a single-band, strongly correlated material, including nonresonant, resonant and mixed contributions. Results are derived for the spinless Falicov-Kimball model, employing dynamical mean field theory; this system can be tuned through a Mott metal-insulator transition.
We review the recent developments in electronic Raman scattering measurements of charge nematic fluctuations in iron-based superconductors. A simple theoretical framework of a $d$-wave Pomeranchuk transition is proposed in order to capture the salient features of the spectra. We discuss the available Raman data in the normal state of 122 iron-based systems, particularly Co doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$, and we show that the low energy quasi-elastic peak, the extracted nematic susceptibility and the scattering rates are consistent with an electronic driven structural phase transition. In the superconduc…
Inelastic low-energy Raman and high-energy X-ray scatterings have made great progress in instrumentation to investigate the strong electronic correlations in matter. However, theoretical study of the relevant scattering spectrum is still a challenge. In this article, we present a Schwinger-Keldysh canonical perturbation formalism for the electronic Raman scattering, where all the resonant, non-resonant and mixed responses are considered uniformly. We show how to use this formalism to evaluate the cross section of the electronic Raman scattering off an one-band superconductor. All the two-photo…
Calculations are presented for electronic Raman scattering and infrared conductivity in a $d_{x^{2}-y^{2}}$ superconductor including the effects of elastic scattering via anisotropic impurities and inelastic spin-fluctuation scattering. A consistent description of experiments on optimally doped Bi-2212 is made possible by considering the effects of correlations on both inelastic and elastic scattering.
The physics of weak itinerant ferromagnets is challenging due to their small magnetic moments and the ambiguous role of local interactions governing their electronic properties, many of which violate Fermi liquid theory. While magnetic fluctuations play an important role in the materials' unusual electronic states, the nature of these fluctuations and the paradigms through which they arise remain debated. Here we use inelastic neutron scattering to study magnetic fluctuations in the canonical weak itinerant ferromagnet MnSi. Data reveal that short-wavelength magnons continue to propagate until…
The effects of self consistency and vertex corrections are compared to a perturbative treatment of the interaction. The theory is then compared to Raman spectra taken in the normal state of cuprate superconductors, and it is shown that many features …
Two magnon excitations and the nodal spin density wave (SDW) gap were observed in BaFe2As2 by Raman scattering. Below the SDW transition temperature (TSDW) nodal SDW gap opens together with new excitations in reconstructed electronic states. The two-magnon peak remains above TSDW and moreover the energy increases a little. The change from the long-range ordered state to the short-range correlated state is compared to the cuprate superconductors.
We present mean-field calculations for the in-plane optical conductivity, the superfluid density, and the electronic Raman susceptibility in quasi two-dimensional systems possessing a ground state with two competing order parameters: d-wave density wave (dDW) and d-wave superconductor (dSC). In the coexisting dDW+dSC phase we calculate the frequency dependence of these correlation functions in the presence of impurity scattering in the unitary limit, relevant to zinc-doped cuprate superconductors.
In this paper we examine the effects of electron-hole asymmetry as a consequence of strong correlations on the electronic Raman scattering in the normal state of copper oxide high temperature superconductors. Using determinant quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the single-band Hubbard model, we construct the electronic Raman response from single particle Green's functions and explore the differences in the spectra for electron and hole doping away from half filling. The theoretical results are compared to new and existing Raman scattering experiments on hole-doped La$_{2-x}$Sr$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$ a…
Raman scattering experiments on Na_{x}CoO_2 yH_2O single crystals show a broad electronic continuum with a pronounced peak around 100 cm-1 and a cutoff at approximately 560 cm-1over a wide range of doping levels. The electronic Raman spectra in superconducting and non-superconducting samples are similar at room temperature, but evolve in markedly different ways with decreasing temperature. For superconducting samples, the low-energy spectral weight is depleted upon cooling below T* sim 150K, indicating a opening of a pseudogap that is not present in non-superconducting materials. Weak addition…
In the under- to optimal-doping regimes of electron-doped cuprates, it was theoretically suspected that there is a coexistence of superconducting (SC) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) orders. The quasi-particle excitations could be gapped by both orders, and the effective gap is non-monotonic d-wave-like in the momentum space. Alternatively the gap was also speculated as a pure pairing gap. Using an effective microscopic model, we consider the manifestation of the quasi-particle gap in the electronic Raman spectra in a range of doping levels, where the relative strength of the SC and AFM order para…
In superconductors on triangle lattices, we show that the electronic Raman spectra in the non-resonant channel are independent of the light polarization configuration in the scattering. Therefore the light polarization configuration is no longer a judicious choice to probe the anisotropic nature of the pairing wave function (as in the case of square lattices). However, we show that the detailed energy-shift dependence of the spectrum and the effects of impurities provide useful information that can help identify the possible pairing symmetry experimentally. These results are relevant to the ne…
Electronic Raman scattering in high-T$_c$ superconductors is studied within the t-J model. It is shown that the A$_{1g}$ and B$_{1g}$ spectra are dominated by amplitude fluctuations of the superconducting and the d-wave CDW order parameters, respectively. The B$_{2g}$ spectrum contains no collective effects and its broad peak reflects vaguely the doping dependence of T$_c$, similarly to the pronounced peak in the A$_{1g}$ spectrum. The agreement of our theory with the experiment supports the picture of two different, competing order parameters in the underdoped regime of high-T$_c$ superconduc…
Electronic Raman scattering measures a polarization-dependent scattering intensity which can provide information about the location of nodes in the energy gap of an unconventional superconductor as well as its overall symmetry. In this paper, we calculate the Raman intensity in the presence of disorder for several models of the iron pnictide superconducting state. We include, for completeness, $d$-wave and isotropic $s_\pm$ responses in addition to more realistic extended $s_\pm$ superconducting gaps. The effect of disorder is modeled using a self-consistent $T$-matrix approximation, and is st…
New electronic Raman and I.R. spectroscopy results from optimally and overdoped high temperature superconducting (HTSC) cuprate systems are interpreted in terms of the negative-U, boson-fermion crossover model. Distinction is made between those features which follow the condensate gap, 2Delta(p), and those that are set by the local-pair binding energy, cursive U(p). The critical role of doping level psubc = 0.185 is highlighted in conjunction with the matter of developing quasiparticle incoherence, making connection here with recent transport and related results. E//c IR results in magnetic fi…
We use electronic Raman scattering to study the model single-layer cuprate superconductor HgBa2CuO4+d. In an overdoped sample, we observe a pronounced amplitude enhancement of a high-energy peak related to two-magnon excitations in insulating cuprates upon cooling below the critical temperature Tc. This effect is accompanied by the appearance of the superconducting gap and a pairing peak above the gap in the Raman spectrum, and it can be understood as a consequence of feedback of the Cooper pairing interaction on the high-energy magnetic fluctuations. All of these effects occur already above T…
We perform core-level X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) and electronic Raman scattering studies of electronic structures and spin fluctuations in the bulk samples of the nickelate oxide NdNiO$_2$. According to Nd $3d$ and O $1s$ XPS spectra, we conclude that NdNiO$_2$ has a large transfer energy. From the analysis of the main line of the Ni $2p_{3/2}$ XPS, we confirm the NiO$_2$ planes in NdNiO$_2$ are of Mott-Hubbard type in the Zaanen-Sawatzky-Allen scheme. The two-magnon peak in the Raman scattering provides direct evidence for the strong spin-fluctuation in NdNiO$_2$. The peak positio…
The doping and temperature dependence of the electronic Raman response in cuprate superconductors is studied within the framework of the kinetic energy driven superconducting mechanism for the t-J model. It is shown that the temperature dependent depletion at low-energy shifts is faster in B_{1g} symmetry than in B_{2g} symmetry. In analogy to the domelike shape of the doping dependent superconducting transition temperature, the pair-breaking peak energy in B_{2g} channel increases with increasing doping in the underdoped regime, and reaches a maximum in the optimal doping, then decreases in t…
We use inelastic light scattering to study Sr$_{1-x}$Na$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($x\approx0.34$), which exhibits a robust tetragonal magnetic phase that restores the four-fold rotation symmetry inside the orthorhombic magnetic phase. With cooling, we observe splitting and recombination of an $E_g$ phonon peak upon entering the orthorhombic and tetragonal magnetic phases, respectively, consistent with the reentrant phase behavior. Our electronic Raman data reveal a pronounced feature that is clearly associated with the tetragonal magnetic phase, suggesting the opening of an electronic gap. No phonon ba…
We report Raman scattering data of single crystals of magnetite (Fe3O4) with Verwey transition temperatures (Tv) of 123 and 117K, respectively. Both single crystals reveal broad electronic background extending up to 900 wavenumbers (~110 meV). Redistribution of this background is observed when samples are cooled below Tv. In particular, spectra of the low temperature phase show diminished background below 300 wavenumbers followed by an enhancement of the electronic background between 300 and 400 wavenumbers. To enhance the effect of this background redistribution we divide the spectra just bel…
For YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+δ} and Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8 superconductors, electronic Raman scattering from high- and low-energy excitations has been studied in relation to the hole doping level, temperature, and energy of the incident photons. For underdoped superconductors, it is concluded that short range antiferromagnetic (AF) correlations persist with hole doping and doped single holes are incoherent in the AF environment. Above the superconducting (SC) transition temperature T_c the system exhibits a sharp Raman resonance of B_1g symmetry and about 75 meV energy and a pseudogap for electron-hole excita…
The Raman response of the metallic glass Ni$_{67}$Zr$_{33}$ is measured as a function of polarization and temperature and analyzed theoretically. Unexpectedly, the intensity in the range up to 300\wn increases upon cooling, which is counterintuitive when the response originates from vibrations alone as in insulators. The increase finds a natural explanation if the conduction electrons are assumed to scatter on localized vibrations with a scattering probability proportional to the Debye-Waller factor. None of our assumptions is material specific, and the results are expected to be relevant for …
We report a neutron and Raman scattering study of a single-crystal of La(2)CuO(4.05) prepared by high temperature electrochemical oxidation. Elastic neutron scattering measurements show the presence of two phases, corresponding to the two edges of the first miscibility gap, all the way up to 300 K. An additional oxygen redistribution, driven by electronic energies, is identified at 250 K in Raman scattering (RS) experiments by the simultaneous onset of two-phonon and two-magnon scattering, which are fingerprints of the insulating phase. Elastic neutron scattering measurements show directly an …
We report Raman scattering measurements on iron-pnictide superconductor Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ single crystals with varying cobalt $x$ content. The electronic Raman continuum shows a strong spectral weight redistribution upon entering the magnetic phase induced by the opening of the Spin Density Wave (SDW) gap. It displays two spectral features that weaken with doping, which are assigned to two SDW induced electronic transitions. Raman symmetry arguments are discussed to identify the origin of these electronic transitions in terms of orbital ordering in the magnetic phase. Our data do …
Using polarization-resolved electronic Raman scattering we study under-doped, optimally-doped and over-doped Ba$_{1-x}$K$_{x}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ samples in the normal and superconducting states. We show that low-energy nematic fluctuations are universal for all studied doping range. In the superconducting state, we observe two distinct superconducting pair breaking peaks corresponding to one large and one small superconducting gaps. In addition, we detect a collective mode below the superconducting transition in the B$_{2g}$ channel and determine the evolution of its binding energy with doping. Poss…
We report electronic Raman scattering measurements on Bi$_2$Sr$_2$(Y$_{1-x}$Ca$_x$)Cu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ single crystals at different doping levels. The dependence of the spectra on doping and on incoming photon energy is analyzed for different polarization geometries, in the superconducting and in the normal state. We find the scaling behavior of the superconductivity pair-breaking peak with the carrier concentration to be very different in B$_{1g}$ and B$_{2g}$ geometries. Also, we do not find evidence of any significant variation of the lineshape of the spectra in the overdoped region in both sym…
Electronic structure near Fermi level of Pr2CoFeO6 (at 300 K) was investigated by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) technique. All three cations, i.e., Pr, Co and Fe were found to be trivalent in nature. XPS analysis also suggested the system to be insulating in nature. Moreover, Raman spectroscopy study indicated the random distribution of the B-site ions (Co/Fe) triggered by same charge states. In temperature-dependent Raman study, the relative heights of the two observed phonon modes exhibited anomalous behaviour near magnetic transition temperature TN~270 K, thus indicating towards in…
The pseudogap regime of the cuprate high-temperature superconductors is characterized by a variety of competing orders, the nature of which are still widely debated. Recent experiments have provided evidence for electron nematic order, in which the electron fluid breaks rotational symmetry while preserving translational invariance. Raman spectroscopy, with its ability to symmetry resolve low energy excitations, is a unique tool that can be used to assess nematic fluctuations and nematic ordering tendencies. Here, we compare results from determinant quantum Monte Carlo simulations of the Hubbar…
We report the first systematic measurements of the Raman scattering by electrons in elemental metals of Al, Mo, Nb, Os, Pb, Re, Ta, Ti, V, W and metallic compound La$B_6$. Experimental spectra are modelled on the base of the band structures, calculated within the density functional theory, taking properly into account the effects of electron-phonon scattering. The agreement between our measured and calculated spectra is excellent for the variety of metals, thus providing estimates for the electron-phonon coupling constants and temperature-dependent relaxation rates. The method can be applied f…

Both electronic Raman scattering (ERS) and angle-resolved photoemission spectra (ARPES) revealed two energy scales for the gap in different momentum spaces in the cuprates. However, the interpretations were different, and the gap values were also different in two experiments. In order to clarify the origin of these discrepancies, we directly compared ERS and ARPES by calculating ERS from the experimental data of ARPES through the Kubo formula. The calculated ERS spectra were in good agreement with the experimental results except for the B$_{1g}$ peak energies. The doping-dependent B$_{2g}$ pea…
