Resonance-assisted tunneling is investigated within the framework of one-dimensional integrable systems. We present a systematic recipe, based on Hamiltonian normal forms, to construct one-dimensional integrable models that exhibit resonance island chain structures with accurately controlled sizes and positions of the islands. Using complex classical trajectories that evolve along suitably defined paths in the complex time domain, we construct a semiclassical theory of the resonance-assisted tunneling process. This semiclassical approach yields a compact analytical expression for tunneling-induced level splittings which is found to be in very good agreement with the exact splittings obtained through numerical diagonalisation.
We study the quantum tunnel effect through a potential barrier employing a semiclassical formulation of quantum mechanics based on expectation values of configuration variables and quantum dispersions as dynamical variables. The evolution of the system is given in terms of a dynamical system for which we are able to determine effective trajectories for individual particles, in a total resemblance of the Bohmian description of quantum mechanics. We obtain a type of semiclassical confinement for particles in a similar way as with the quantum potential, and also determine a semiclassical transmis…
Electron tunneling into a system with strong interactions is known to exhibit an anomaly, in which the tunneling conductance vanishes continuously at low energy due to many-body interactions. Recent measurements have probed this anomaly in a quantum Hall bilayer of the half-filled Landau level, and shown that the anomaly apparently gets stronger as the half-filled Landau level is increasingly spin polarized. Motivated by this result, we construct a semiclassical hydrodynamic theory of the tunneling anomaly in terms of the charge-spreading action associated with tunneling between two copies of …
Canonical semiclassical methods can be used to develop an intuitive definition of tunneling time through potential barriers. An application to atomic ionization is given here, considering both static and time-dependent electric fields. The results allow one to analyze different theoretical constructions proposed recently to evaluate ionization experiments based on attoclocks. They also suggest new proposals of determining tunneling times, for instance through the behavior of fluctuations.

In this work we present a general construction of integrable models for boson tunneling in multi-well systems. We show how the models may be derived through the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method and solved by algebraic Bethe ansatz means. From the transfer matrix we find only two conserved operators. However, we construct additional conserved operators through a different method. As a consequence the models admit multiple pseudovacua, each associated to a set of Bethe ansatz equations. We show that all sets of Bethe ansatz equations are needed to obtain a complete set of eigenstates.
Given a quantum Hamiltonian, we explain how the dynamical properties of the underlying classical system affect the behaviour of quantum eigenstates in the semi-classical limit. We study this problem via the notion of semiclassical measures. We mostly focus on two opposite dynamical paradigms: completely integrable systems and chaotic ones. We recall standard tools from microlocal analysis and from dynamical systems. We show how to use them in order to illustrate the classical-quantum correspondance and to compare properties of completely integrable and chaotic systems.
In this paper, we consider the semiclassical 2D magnetic Schr{ö}dinger operator in the case where the magnetic field vanishes along a smooth closed curve. Assuming that this curve has an axis of symmetry, we prove that semi-classical tunneling occurs. The main result is an expression the splitting of the first two eigenvalues and an explicit tunneling formula.
We present a semiclassical prediction of regular-to-chaotic tunneling in systems with a mixed phase space, including the effect of a nonlinear resonance chain. We identify complex paths for direct and resonance-assisted tunneling in the phase space of an integrable approximation with one nonlinear resonance chain. We evaluate the resonance-assisted contribution analytically and give a prediction based on just a few properties of the classical phase space. For the standard map excellent agreement with numerically determined tunneling rates is observed. The results should similarly apply to ioni…
