In this paper, we carry out a numerical and systematic analysis of the neutrino mass textures, which contain one vanishing minor and an equality between two cofactors. Among 60 logically possible textures, only eight of them are excluded for both normal and inverted hierarchy by the current experimental data at 3σlevel. We also demonstrate that the future long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments, especially for the measurement of θ23 mixing angle, will play the important role in the model selection. The phenomenological implications from neutrinoless double beta decay and the cosmology observation are also examined. A discussion on the flavor symmetry realization of the textures is also given.
We study Majorana neutrino mass matrices that have two texture zeros, or two cofactor zeros, or one texture zero and one cofactor zero. The two texture/cofactor zero conditions give four constraints, which in conjunction with the five measured oscillation parameters completely determine the nine independent real parameters of the neutrino mass matrix. We also study the implications that future measurements of neutrinoless double beta decay and the Dirac CP phase will have on these cases.
In view of the recent measurement of nonzero $θ_{13}$, we carry out a systematic study of a simple class of neutrino models that has one diagonal texture or cofactor zero in the mass matrix. There are seven free parameters in the model and five of them are already measured by neutrino oscillation experiments; some cases for the normal or inverted hierarchy are excluded and for the rest we obtain the preferred values for the lightest neutrino mass and Dirac CP phase. We find that there are strong similarities between one diagonal texture zero models with one mass hierarchy and one diagonal cofa…
We investigate the texture structures of lepton mass matrices with four (five) non-zero elements in the charged lepton mass matrix and three (four) vanishing cofactors in the neutrino mass matrix. Using weak basis transformations, all possible textures for three and four vanishing cofactors in $M_ν$ are grouped into 7 classes and predictions for the unknown parameters such as the Dirac CP violating phase and the effective Majorana mass for the phenomenologically allowed textures have been obtained. We, also, illustrate how such texture structures can be realized using discrete Abelian flavor s…
In this paper we investigate the parallel texture structures with cofactor zeros in the charged lepton and neutrino sectors. The textures can not be obtained from arbitrary leptonic matrices by making weak basis transformations, which therefore have physical meaning. The 15 parallel textures are grouped as 4 classes where each class has the same physical implications. It is founded that one of them is not phenomenological viable and another is equivalent to the texture zero structures extensively explored in previous literature. Thus we focus on the other two classes of parallel texture struct…
In this paper we investigate the parallel texture structures containing texture zeros in charged lepton mass matrix $M_{l}$ and cofactor zeros in neutrino mass matrix $M_ν$. These textures are interesting since they are related to the $Z_{n}$ flavor symmetries. Using the weak basis permutation transformation, the 15 parallel textures are grouped as 4 classes (class I,II,III and IV) with the matrices in each class sharing the same physical implications. Under the current experimental data, the class I, III with inverted mass hierarchy and class II with normal mass hierarchy are phenomenological…
We study the phenomenological implications of the recent neutrino data for class B of two texture zeros and two vanishing cofactors for Majorana neutrinos in the flavor basis. We find that classes $B_{1}$($B_2$) of two texture zeros and classes $B_5$($B_6$) of two vanishing cofactors have similar predictions for neutrino oscillation parameters for the same mass hierarchy. Similar predictions for classes $B_3$($B_4$) of two texture zeros and classes $B_3$($B_4$) of two vanishing cofactors are expected. However, a preference for a shift in the quadrant of the Dirac-type CP violating phase($δ$) i…
The Majorana neutrino mass textures with a texture zero and a vanishing cofactor are reconsidered in the light of current experimental results. A numerical and systematic analysis is carried out for all viable patterns. In particular, we focus on the phenomenological implication of correlations between three mixing angle (especially for $θ_{23}$), Dirac CP-violating phase $δ$, the effective Majorana neutrino mass $m_{ee}$. We demonstrated that the correlations between these variables play an important role in the model selection and can be measured in future long-baseline oscillation and neutr…
In this paper, we investigate the noval possibilities of hybrid textures comprising a vanishing minor (or element) and two equal elements (or cofactors) in light neutrino mass matrix $M_ν$. Such type of texture structures lead to sixty phenomenological cases each, out of which only fifty six are viable with texture containing a vanishing minor and an equality between the elements in $M_ν$, while fifty are found to be viable with texture containing a vanishing element and an equality of cofactors in $M_ν$ under the current experimental test at 3$σ$ confidence level. Detailed numerical analysis …
We perform a systematic study of neutrino mass matrices having a vanishing cofactor and an equality between two cofactors of the mass matrix. Such texture structures of the effective neutrino mass matrix arise from type-I seesaw mechanism when the Dirac neutrino mass matrix is diagonal with equal elements and the right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix has hybrid textures with one equality of matrix elements and one zero matrix element. For three right-handed neutrinos there are sixty possible hybrid textures out of which only six are excluded by the present experimental data. We show that …
With the recent observation of nonzero θ_{13}, five neutrino oscillation parameters are now known. By imposing four zeros in the Yukawa coupling matrix of the type I seesaw model, the number of parameters in the neutrino mass matrix is reduced to seven, and we are able to make predictions for the lightest neutrino mass, Dirac CP phase, and neutrinoless double beta decay. Four texture zeros in the Yukawa coupling matrix is equivalent to either a single texture zero or a single cofactor zero for an off-diagonal element of the light neutrino mass matrix. We find strong similarities between single…
In the context of the Type I seesaw mechanism, we carry out a systematic study of the constraints that result from zeros in both the Dirac and right-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrices. We find that most constraints can be expressed in the standard form with one or two element/cofactor zeros alone, while there are 9 classes of nonstandard constraints. We show that all the constraints are stable under one-loop renormalization group running from the lightest right-handed neutrino mass scale to the electroweak scale. We study the predictions of the nonstandard constraints for the lightest neut…
We study the implications of the simultaneous existence of a texture zero and a vanishing minor in the neutrino mass matrix. There are thirty six possible texture structures of this type, twenty one of which reduce to two texture zero cases which have, already, been extensively studied. Of the remaining fifteen textures only six are allowed by the current data. We examine the phenomenological implications of the allowed texture structures for Majorana type CP-violating phases, 1-3 mixing angle and Dirac type CP-violating phase. All these possible textures can be generated through the seesaw me…
We construct the $CP$-odd weak basis invariants in the flavor basis for all the phenomenologically viable neutrino mass matrices with a texture zero and a vanishing minor and, also, find the necessary and sufficient conditions for $CP$ invariance . We examine the interrelationships between different $CP$-odd weak basis invariants for these texture structures and investigate their implications for Dirac- and Majorana-type $CP$ violation.
We study the existence of one/two texture zeros or one/two vanishing minors in the neutrino mass matrix with $μτ$ symmetry. In the basis where the charged lepton mass matrix and the Dirac neutrino mass matrix are diagonal, the one/two zeros or one/two vanishing minors in the right-handed Majorana mass matrix having $μτ$ symmetry will propagate via seesaw mechanism as one/two vanishing minors or one/two texture zeros in the neutrino mass matrix with $μτ$ symmetry respectively. It is found that only five such texture structures of the neutrino mass matrix are phenomenologically viable. For tribi…
In this work we carry out a systematic texture study of the neutrino mass matrix with the ansatzes - (i) one vanishing minor and (ii) the zero sum of the mass eigenvalues with the CP phases (henceforth vanishing trace). There are six possible textures of a neutrino mass matrix with one vanishing minor. The viability of each texture is checked with $3σ$ values of current neutrino data by drawing scatter plots. In our analysis we are motivated to use the ratio of solar to atmospheric mass-squared differences $R_ν$ for its precise measurement (and also the atmospheric mixing angle $θ_{23}$) to co…
We examine the possibility that a certain class of neutrino mass matrices, namely those with two independent vanishing minors in the flavor basis, regardless of being invertible or not, is sufficient to describe current data. We compute generic formulae for the ratios of the neutrino masses and for the Majorana phases. We find that seven textures with two vanishing minors can accommodate the experimental data. We present an estimate of the mass matrix for these patterns. All the possible textures can be dynamically generated through the seesaw mechanism augmented with a discrete Abelian symmet…
Augmenting the Standard Model by three right-handed neutrinos allows for an anomaly-free gauge group extension G_max = U(1)_(B-L) x U(1)_(L_e-L_mu) x U(1)_(L_mu-L_tau). While simple U(1) subgroups of G_max have already been discussed in the context of approximate flavor symmetries, we show how two-zero textures in the right-handed neutrino Majorana mass matrix can be enforced by the flavor symmetry, which is spontaneously broken very economically by singlet scalars. These zeros lead to two vanishing minors in the low-energy neutrino mass matrix after the seesaw mechanism. This study may provid…
In this work we have re-investigated two different kinds of texture zero ansatz of the low energy neutrino mass matrix in view of the Dark-Large-Mixing-Angle (DLMA) solution of the solar neutrino problem which can arise in the presence of non-standard interactions. In particular we revisit the cases of (i) one zero mass matrices when the lowest neutrino mass is zero and (ii) one zero texture with a vanishing minor. In our study we find that for most of the cases, the texture zero conditions which are allowed for the LMA solution, are also allowed for the DLMA solution. However, we found two te…
We study a specific texture of the neutrino mass matrix, namely the models with one $2\times 2$ subdeterminant equal to zero. We carry out a complete phenomenological analysis with all possible relevant correlations. Every pattern of the six possible ones is found able to accommodate the experimental data, with three cases allowing also for non-invertible mass matrices. We present symmetry realizations for all the models.
In the flavor basis there are seven cases of two vanishing minors in the neutrino mass matrix which can accommodate the present neutrino oscillation data including the recent T2K data. It is found that two of these cases, namely $B_5$ and $B_6$ predict near maximal atmospheric neutrino mixing in the limit of large effective neutrino mass. This feature remains irrespective of the values of solar and reactor mixing angles. A non-zero reactor mixing angle is naturally accommodated in these textures.
We respond to the comments of S. Sharma et al. [Phys. Rev. D 91, 038301 (2015)] on my recent paper, Y. Giraldo [Phys. Rev. D 86, 093021 (2012)]. In their comments, they begin discussing a particular class of five-zero texture non-Fritzsch-like quark mass matrix, which was proposed by me, and questioning its validity. Then, they put in doubt the phases included in the unitary matrices used for diagonalizing the quark mass matrices, from which they claim that the CP violating parameter $ε_k$ obtained does not agree with the experimental value. Because of these comments, finally, they recommend b…
We have investigated a possible connection between the Majorana phases and geometric parameters of leptonic unitarity triangle(LUT) in two-texture zero neutrino mass matrix. Such analytical relations can, also, be obtained for other theoretical models viz. hybrid textures, neutrino mass matrix with vanishing minors and have profound implications for geometric description of $CP$ violation. As an example, we have considered two-texture zero neutrino mass model to obtain relation between Majorana phases and LUT parameters. In particular, we find that Majorana phases depend on only one of the thr…
The observed replication of fermions in three families is undoubtedly a reflection of a deeper symmetry underlying the standard model. In this paper we investigate one very elementary possibility, that physics above the grand unification scale is described by the symmetry group $G\timesSU(3)_{fam}$ with $G$ a gauged grand unified group, and $SU(3)_{fam}$ a global family symmetry. The breaking of this symmetry at the GUT scale produces global texture, providing a mechanism for structure formation in the universe, and sets strong constraints on the low energy fermion mass matrix. With the additi…
Assuming Majorana nature of neutrinos, a general expression for the charged lepton corrections to scaling neutrino mixing has been obtained in the context of three flavor neutrino oscillations. Non-zero value of the reactor mixing angle is nicely accommodated. It is noted that scaling in the effective neutrino mass matrix is equivalent to the presence of two vanishing minors corresponding to first row elements of the effective neutrino mass matrix. A value of reactor mixing angle which is fairly close to the currently measured best fit is predicted for charged lepton corrections of the order o…
It is well known that the differences between the lepton numbers can be gauged with the Standard Model matter content. Such extended gauge theories, dubbed as the gauged U(1)$_{L_α- L_β}$ models, have been widely discussed so far as potential candidates for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this work, we study the minimal versions of these gauge theories, where three right-handed neutrinos as well as a single U(1)$_{L_α- L_β}$ symmetry breaking Higgs field---an SU(2)$_L$ singlet or doublet---are introduced. In these minimal models, the neutrino mass terms are constrained by the gauge symme…
We study the minimal extensions of the Standard Model by a linear combination of U(1)$_{L_e-L_μ}$, U(1)$_{L_μ-L_τ}$ and U(1)$_{B-L}$ gauge symmetries, where three right-handed neutrinos and one U(1)-breaking SU(2)$_L$ singlet or doublet scalar are introduced. Because of the dependence on the lepton flavor, the structures of both Dirac and Majorana mass matrices of neutrinos are restricted. In particular, the two-zero minor and texture structures in the mass matrix for the active neutrinos are interesting. Analyzing these structures, we obtain uniquely all the neutrino parameters, namely the Di…
