We prove that every sectional-Anosov flow of a compact 3-manifold $M$ exhibits a finite collection of hyperbolic attractors and singularities whose basins form a dense subset of $M$. Applications to the dynamics of sectional-Anosov flows on compact 3-manifolds include a characterization of essential hyperbolicity, sensitivity to the initial conditions (improving \cite{ams}) and a relationship between the topology of the ambient manifold and the denseness of the basin of the singularities.
A {\em sectional-Anosov flow} is a vector field on a compact manifold inwardly transverse to the boundary such that the maximal invariant set is sectional-hyperbolic (in the sense of \cite{mm}). We prove that any $C^2$ transitive sectional-Anosov flow has a unique SRB measure which is stochastically stable under small random perturbations.
We prove that every sectional Anosov flow (or, equivalently, every sectional-hyperbolic attracting set of a flow) on a compact manifold has a periodic orbit. This extends the previous three-dimensional result obtained in [Existence of periodic orbits for singular-hyperbolic sets].
A sectional-Anosov flow on a manifold M is a C^1 vector field inwardly transverse to the boundary for which the maximal invariant is sectional-hyperbolic. We prove that every attractor of every vector field C^1 close to a transitive sectional-Anosov flow with singularities on a compact manifold has a singularity. This extends the three-dimensional result obtained in [Morales, C.A., The explosion of singular-hyperbolic attractors].
We show that if X is a Venice mask (i.e. nontransitive sectional-Anosov flow with dense periodic orbits) supported on a compact 3-manifold, then the omega-limit set of every non-recurrent point in the unstable manifold of some singularity is a closed orbit. In addition, we prove that the intersection of two different homoclinic classes in the maximal invariant set of a sectional-Anosov flow can be decomposed as the disjoint union of, singular points, a non-singular hyperbolic set, and regular points whose alpha-limit set and omega-limit set is formed by singular points or hyperbolic sets.
For each $n\in\mathbb{Z}^+$, we show the existence of Venice masks (i.e. intransitive sectional-Anosov flows with dense periodic orbits) containing $n$ equilibria on certain compact 3-manifolds. These examples are characterized because of the maximal invariant set is a finite union of homoclinic classes. Here, the intersection between two different homoclinic classes is contained in the closure of the union of unstable manifolds of the singularities.
We show the existence of Venice masks (i.e. nontransitive sectional Anosov flows with dense periodic orbits), containing two equilibria on certain compact 3-manifolds. Indeed, the only known examples of venice masks have one or three singularities, and they are characterized by having two properties: are the union non disjoint of two homoclinic classes and whose intersection is the closure of the unstable manifold of a singularity. Thus, we present two type of examples containing two equilibria in which the homoclinic classes composing their maximal invariant set intersect in a very different …
It is given notions of singular hyperbolicity and sectional Lyapunov exponents of orders beyond the classical ones, namely, other dimensions besides the dimension 2 and the full dimension of the central subbundle of the singular hyperbolic set. It is obtained a characterization of dominated splittings, partial and singular hyperbolicity in this broad sense, by using Lyapunov exponents and the notion of infinitesimal Lyapunov functions. Furthermore, it is given alternative requirements to obtain singular hyperbolicity. As an application we obtain some results related to singular hyperbolic sets…

Assume that a Hamiltonian system is monotone. In this paper, we give several characterizations on when such a system is Anosov. Assuming that a monotone Hamiltonian system has no conjugate point, we show that there are two distributions which are invariant under the Hamiltonian flow. We show that a monotone Hamiltonian flow without conjugate point is Anosov if and only if these distributions are transversal. We also show that if the reduced curvature of the Hamiltonian system is non-positive, then the flow is Anosov if and only if the reduced curvature is negative somewhere along each trajecto…
We study $C^1$-generic vector fields on closed manifolds without points accumulated by periodic orbits of different indices and prove that they exhibit finitely many sinks and sectional-hyperbolic transitive Lyapunov stable sets with residual basin of attraction. This represents a partial positive answer to conjectures in \cite{am}, the Palis conjecture \cite{pa} and extend the Araujo's thesis to higher dimensions \cite{a}.
In hyperbolic dynamics, a well-known result is that every hyperbolic attracting set, have a finite pseudo-orbit tracing property (FPOTP). It's natural to wonder if this result is maintained in the sectional-hyperbolic dynamics; Komuro in [Lorenz attractors do not have the pseudo-orbit tracing property], provides a negative answer for this question, by proving that the geometric Lorenz Attractor doesn't have a FPOTP. In this paper, we generalized the result of Komuro, we prove that every codimension one sectional-hyperbolic attractor set with a unique singularity Lorenz-like, which is of bounda…
If a non-ergodic, partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism on the 3-torus is homotopic to an Anosov diffeomorphism $A$, it is topologically conjugate to $A$.
We analyze a class of deformations of Anosov diffeomorphisms: these $C^0$-small, but $C^1$-macroscopic deformations break the topological conjugacy class but leave the high entropy dynamics unchanged. More precisely, there is a partial conjugacy between the deformation and the original Anosov system that identifies all invariant probability measures with entropy close to the maximum. We also establish expansiveness around those measures. This class of deformations contains many of the known nonhyperbolic robustly transitive diffeomorphisms. In particular, we show that it includes a class of no…
We prove that a Hamiltonian star system, defined on a 2d-dimensional symplectic manifold M, is Anosov. As a consequence we obtain the proof of the stability conjecture for Hamiltonians. This generalizes the 4-dimensional results in [6].

In a non-compact setting, the notion of hyperbolicity, and the associated structure of stable and unstable manifolds (for unbounded orbits), is highly dependent on the choice of metric used to define it. We consider the simplest version of this, the analogue for the plane of Anosov diffeomorphisms, studied earlier by W. White and P. Mendes. The two known topological conjugacy classes of such diffeomorphisms are linear hyperbolic automorphisms and translations. We show that if the structure of stable and unstable manifolds is required to be preserved by these conjugacies, the number of distinct…
We prove that any vector field on a three-dimensional compact manifold can be approximated in the C1-topology by one which is singular hyperbolic or by one which exhibits a homoclinic tangency associated to a regular hyperbolic periodic orbit. This answers a conjecture by Palis. During the proof we obtain several other results with independent interest: a compactification of the rescaled sectional Poincaré flow and a generalization of Mañé-Pujals-Sambarino theorem for three-dimensional C2 vector fields with singularities.
For any $C^r$ contact Anosov flow with $r\ge 3$, we construct a scale of Hilbert spaces, which are embedded in the space of distributions on the phase space and contain all $C^r$ functions, such that the transfer operators for the flow extend to them boundedly and that the extensions are quasi-compact. Further we give explicit bounds on the essential spectral radii of the extensions in terms of the differentiability r and the hyperbolicity exponents of the flow.
We prove that dynamical coherence is an open and closed property in the space of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^3$ isotopic to Anosov. Moreover, we prove that strong partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of $\mathbb{T}^3$ are either dynamically coherent or have an invariant two-dimensional torus which is either contracting or repelling. We develop for this end some general results on codimension one foliations which may be of independent interest.
Uniform hyperbolicity is a strong chaotic property which holds, in particular, for Sinai billiards. In this paper, we consider the case of a nonflat billiard, that is, a Riemannian manifold with boundary. Each trajectory follows the geodesic flow in the interior of the billiard, and bounces when it meets the boundary. We give a sufficient condition for a nonflat billiard to be uniformly hyperbolic. As a particular case, we obtain a new criterion to show that a closed surface has an Anosov geodesic flow.
We consider the remainder term in the semiclassical limit formula for the eta invariant on a metric contact manifold, proving in general that it is controlled by volumes of recurrence sets of the Reeb flow. This particularly gives a logarithmic improvement of the remainder for Anosov Reeb flows, while for certain elliptic flows the improvement is in terms of irrationality measures of corresponding Floquet exponents.
In this paper we prove that if the geodesic flow of a {compact or non-compact} complete manifold without conjugate points is of the Anosov type, then the average of the integral of the sectional curvature along the geodesic is negative and away from zero from a uniform time. Moreover, in dimension two, if the manifold has no focal points, then this condition is sufficient to obtain that the geodesic flow is of Anosov type. This sufficient condition will also be used to construct new examples of non-compact surfaces whose geodesic flow is of the Anosov type.
We prove that if $f$ is a $C^1$-generic symplectic diffeomorphism then the Oseledets splitting along almost every orbit is either trivial or partially hyperbolic. In addition, if $f$ is not Anosov then all the exponents in the center bundle vanish. This establishes in full a result announced by R. Mañé in the ICM 1983. The main technical novelty is a probabilistic method for the construction of perturbations, using random walks.
We obtain sufficient conditions for an invariant splitting over a compact invariant subset of a $C^1$ flow $X_t$ to be dominated. In particular, we reduce the requirements to obtain sectional hyperbolicity and hyperbolicity.
In this paper we describe the topological behavior of the geodesic flow for a class of closed 3-manifolds realized as quotients of nonstrictly convex Hilbert geometries, constructed and described explicitly by Benoist. These manifolds are Finsler geometries which have isometrically embedded flats, but also some hyperbolicity and an explicit geometric structure. We prove the geodesic flow of the quotient is topologically mixing and satisfies a nonuniform Anosov closing lemma, with applications to entropy and orbit counting. We also prove entropy-expansiveness for the geodesic flow of any compac…
We prove a quantitative version of the non-uniform hyperbolicity of the Teichmüller geodesic flow. Namely, at each point of any Teichmüller flow line, we bound the infinitesimal spectral gap for variations of the Hodge norm along the flow line in terms of an easily estimated geometric quantity on the flat surface, which is greater than or equal to the flat systole. As applications, we strengthen results of Treviño and Smith regarding unique ergodicity of measured foliations, and give an estimate for the spectral gaps of pseudo-Anosov homeomorphisms based on the location of their axes in the mo…
We consider the semi-classical (or Gutzwiller-Voros) zeta function for $C^\infty$ contact Anosov flows. Analyzing the spectrum of transfer operators associated to the flow, we prove, for any $τ>0$, that its zeros are contained in the union of the $τ$-neighborhood of the imaginary axis, $|\Re(s)|<τ$, and the region $\Re(s)<-χ_0+τ$, up to finitely many exceptions, where $χ_0>0$ is the hyperbolicity exponent of the flow. Further we show that the zeros in the neighborhood of the imaginary axis satisfy an analogue of the Weyl law.
