Background: Unravelling the role played by nonvalence flavors in baryons is crucial in deepening our comprehension of QCD. Strange quark, a component of the higher Fock states in baryons, is an appropriate tool to investigate nonperturbative mechanisms generated by the pure sea quark.
Purpose: Study the magnitude and the sign of the strangeness magnetic moment $μ_s$ and the magnetic form factor ($G_M^s$) of the proton.
Methods: Within an extended chiral constituent quark model, we investigate contributions from all possible five-quark components to $μ_s$ and $G_M^s (Q^2)$ in the four-vector momentum range $Q^2 \leq 1$ (GeV/c)$^2$. Probability of the strangeness component in the proton wave function is calculated employing the $^3 P_0$ model.
Results: Predictions are obtained without any adjustable parameters. Observables $μ_s$ and $G_M^s (Q^2)$ are found to be small and negative, consistent with the lattice-QCD findings as well as with the latest data released by the PVA4 and HAPPEX Collaborations.
Conclusions: Due to sizeable cancelations among different configurations contributing to the strangeness magnetic moment of the proton, it is indispensable to (i) take into account all relevant five-quark components and include both diagonal and non-diagonal terms, (ii) handle with care the oscillator harmonic parameter $ω_5$ and the ${s \bar s}$ component probability.
The chiral quark model describes the strangeness components of the light quarks as fluctuations into strange mesons and quarks. The single strange pseudoscalar and vector meson loop fluctuations of the constituent $u$- and $d$-quarks give rise to only very small strangeness form factors for the proton. This result is in line with recent experimental results, given their wide uncertainty range.
The polarization observables in phi meson photoproduction is studied to probe the strangeness content of the nucleon. In addition to the dominant diffractive production and the one-pion-exchange process, we take into account the direct knockout mechanism that arises from the possible hidden strangeness content of the nucleon. We find that some double polarization observables are very sensitive to the strangeness content of the proton because of the different spin structures of the amplitudes associated with different mechanisms. This suggests that such measurements could be very useful in prob…
The implications of chiral symmetry breaking and SU(3) symmetry breaking have been studied in the chiral constituent quark model ($χ$CQM). The role of hidden strangeness component has been investigated for the scalar matrix elements of the nucleon with an emphasis on the meson-nucleon sigma terms. The $χ$CQM is able to give a qualitative and quantitative description of the "quark sea" generation through chiral symmetry breaking. The significant contribution of the strangeness is consistent with the recent available experimental observations.
The nucleon's strange-quark vector current form factors are studied from the perspective of chiral symmetry. It is argued that chiral perturbation theory cannot yield a prediction for the strangeness radius and magnetic moment. Arrival at definite predictions requires the introduction of additional, model-dependent assumptions which go beyond the framework of chiral perturbation theory. A variety of such model predictions is surveyed, and the credibility of each is evaluated. The most plausible prediction appears in a model where the unknown chiral counterterms are identified with $t$-channel …
We analyze the process $e p \to e p ϕ$ near the threshold within $uud - s\bar s$ cluster model as a probe of the strangeness content of proton. Our consideration is based on the relativistic harmonic oscillator quark model which takes into account the Lorentz-contraction effect of the hadron wavefunctions. We find that the knockout mechanisms are comparable to the diffractive production of vector-meson-dominance model when only (3-5)% strange quark admixture is assumed, which should be compared with (10-20)% of the nonrelativistic quark model prediction. The cross sections of the $uud$- and $s…
The contributions of direct knockout processes, in addition to the diffractive production and one-pion-exchange processes associated with the phi-rho-pi and phi-gamma-pi couplings, to the polarization observables of the phi photoproduction from proton are calculated. We make use of Pomeron-photon analogy and a relativistic harmonic oscillator quark model. We find that some of the double polarization observables are very sensitive to a possible (s s-bar) admixture in the proton. It arises from the difference in the spin structures of the three different amplitudes. This suggests that such measu…
We study the S-wave interaction of mesons with baryons in the strangeness S=0 sector in a coupled channel unitary approach. The basic dynamics is drawn from the lowest order meson baryon chiral Lagrangians. Small modifications inspired by models with explicit vector meson exchange in the t-channel are also considered. In addition the pi pi N channel is included and shown to have an important repercussion in the results, particularly in the isospin 3/2 sector.
We analyse strangeness production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at SPS and RHIC energies, using the recently advanced NeXus approach. After having verified that the model reproduces well the existing data, we interpret the results: strangeness is suppressed in proton-proton collisions at SPS energy as compared to electron-positron (e+e-) annihilation due to the limited masses of the strings produced in the reaction, whereas high energy pp and e+e- collisions agree quantitatively . Thus strangeness suppression at SPS energies is a consequence of the limited phase-space available in string fr…
Studies of the baryon-baryon interaction involving hyperons within chiral effective field theory, so far performed up to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the chiral expansion, have shown that for the strangeness $S=-1$ ($ΛN$, $ΣN$) and $S=-2$ ($ΛΛ$, $ΞN$) sectors a consistent and satisfactory description of the available scattering data and experimental constraints can be achieved based on the assumption of broken SU(3) flavor symmetry. We explore the possible extension of this approach at the NLO level to strangeness $S=-3$ and $S=-4$ baryon-baryon systems where empirical information is rather …
Core-corona procedure and microcanonical hadronization to understand strangeness enhancement in proton-proton and heavy ion collisions in the EPOS4 framework
The properties of the nucleons in nuclear medium have been investigated in the context of the flux tube model incorporating strangeness $(s\bar{s})$ contribution to proton structure in conformity with the experimental indication. Proton is described as a pentaquark system with strange quark contribution whereas neutron is described in three quark configuration. The Quasi particle model of diquark is used to describe the structures of the nucleons. Modifications of the properties like swelling, mass, incompressibility, ratio of the structure functions ($\frac{F_{2}^{n}(x)}{F_{2}^{p}(x)}$), Gott…
Motivated by the successes of covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory in one-baryon systems and in heavy-light systems, we study relevance of relativistic effects in hyperon-nucleon interactions with strangeness $S=-1$. In this exploratory work, we follow the covariant framework developed by Epelbaum and Gegelia to calculate the $YN$ scattering amplitude at leading order. By fitting the five low-energy constants to the experimental data, we find that the cutoff dependence is mitigated, compared with the heavy-baryon approach. Nevertheless, the description of the experimental data remains q…
The meson-baryon interactions in s-wave in the strangeness S=-1 sector are studied using a chiral unitarity approach based on the next-to-leading order chiral SU(3) Lagrangian. The model is fitted to the large set of experimental data in different two-body channels. Particular attention is paid to the $Ξ$ hyperon production reaction, $\bar{K} N \rightarrow K Ξ$, where the effect of the next-to-leading order terms in the Lagrangian play a crucial role, since the cross section of this reaction at tree level is zero.
Several model calculations of the QCD phase structure at nonzero temperature and density suggest that in certain regions of the phase diagram inhomogeneous condensates are favored over homogeneous ones. In particular, in a two-flavor NJL model in the chiral limit the would-be first-order boundary associated with the chiral phase transition is entirely covered by an inhomogeneous phase, characterized by a spatially modulated chiral condensate, whose tip coincides exactly with the chiral critical point. In this contribution we discuss how this result is altered by the inclusion of nonzero quark …
Strangeness production in high multiplicity events gives indications on the transverse size fluctuactions in nucleus-nucleus ($AA$), proton-nucleus ($pA$) and proton-proton ($pp$) collisions. In particular the behavior of strange particle hadronization in "small" ($pp,pA$) and "large" ($AA$) initial configurations of the collision can be tested for the specific particle species, for different centralities and for large fluctuations of the transverse size in $pA$ and $pp$ by using the recent ALICE data. A universality of strange hadron production emerges by introducing a dynamical variable prop…
The implications of the empirical signatures for the positivity of the strangeness magnetic moment $μ_s$, and the negativity of the strangeness contribution to the proton spin $Δ_s$, on the possible $uuds\bar s$ configurations of five quarks in the proton are analyzed. The empirical signs for the values of these two observables can only be obtained in configurations where the $uuds$ system is orbitally excited and the $\bar s$ quark is in the ground state. The configurations, in which the $\bar s$ is orbitally excited, which include the conventional $K^+Λ^0$ congfiguration, with the exception …
We analyze the parity-violating (PV) components of the analyzing power in elastic electron-proton scattering and discuss their sensitivity to the strange quark contributions to the proton weak form factors. We point out that the component of the analyzing power along the momentum transfer is independent of the electric weak form factor and thus compares favorably with the PV beam asymmetry for a determination of the strangeness magnetic moment. We also show that the transverse component could be used for constraining the strangeness radius. Finally, we argue that a measurement of both componen…
Once heavy-quark corrections are take into account neutrino-proton elastic scattering provides a complementary probe of polarized strangeness in the nucleon to measurements from inclusive and semi-inclusive polarized deep inelastic scattering. We review the different types of experiment and a recent NLO calculation of heavy-quark contributions to the weak neutral-current axial-charge (measureable in neutrino-proton elastic scattering) performed using Witten's heavy-quark renormalization group method.
In the SU3 Skyrme model the electric quadrupole moments of $\frac{3}{2}^+$ baryons show a strong sensitivity with respect to flavor distortions in baryon wavefunctions. SU3 symmetric wavefunctions lead to quadrupole moments proportional to the charge of the baryon whereas for strongly broken flavor symmetry a proportionality to baryonic isospin emerges. Since the flavor distortions in the wavefunctions also determine the strangeness content of the proton the Skyrme model provides a link between both quantities.
The strangeness magnetic moment of the proton is shown to be small in the chiral quark model. The dominant loop contribution is due to kaons. The K^* loop contributions are proportional to the difference between the strange and light constituent quark masses or $m_{K^*}^{-2}$ and therefore small. The loop fluctuations that involve radiative transitions between K^* mesons and kaons are small, when the cut-off scale in the loops is taken to be close to the chiral symmetry restoration scale. The net loop amplitude contribution to the strangeness magnetic moment of the proton is about -0.05, which…
Dense compact objects like neutron stars or black holes have always been one of Gerry Brown's favorite research topics. This is closely related to the effects of strangeness in nuclear physics. Here, we review the chiral Effective Field Theory approach to interactions involving nucleons and hyperons, the possible existence of strange dibaryons, the fate of hyperons in nuclear matter and the present status of three-body forces involving hyperons and nucleons.
The LHC has already provided many relevant measurements for the determination of parton distribution functions (PDFs). Measurements of the W and Z lepton distributions are of interest for flavor separation and in particular for the determination of the relatively poorly constrained strange quark distribution. In this contribution we shall discuss the computational developments that allow for the efficient inclusion of LHC data into the NNPDF framework consistently at NLO for all observables, and we study the constraints of the LHC W and Z data on the strangeness content of the proton.
The energy density is the prime parameter to define the deconfinement of quarks and gluons occurring in collisions of heavy ions. Recently, there is mounting evidence that many observables in proton-proton collisions behave in a manner very similar to the one observed in heavy ions. We present as an additional piece of evidence, a scaling of the strange particle yields as a function of the energy density of the three collision systems: p+p p+Pb and Pb+Pb, using the latest results of the ALICE collaboration.
A complete analysis is given of the implications of the empirical indications for a positive strangeness magnetic moment $μ_s$ of the proton on the possible configurations of the $uuds\bar s$ component of the proton. A positive value for $μ_s$ is obtained in the $s\bar s$ configuration where the $uuds$ subsystem is in an orbitally excited state with $[4]_{[FS]}[22]_F[22]_S$ flavor-spin symmetry, which is likely to have the lowest energy. The configurations in which the $\bar s$ is orbitally excited, which include the conventional $K^+Λ^0$ configuration, with exception of that in which the $uud…
The strange quark contributions to the electromagnetic form factors of the proton are ideal quantities to study the role of hidden flavor in the properties of the proton. This has motivated intense experimental measurements of these form factors. A major remaining source of systematic uncertainty in these determinations is the assumption that charge symmetry violation (CSV) is negligible. We use recent theoretical determinations of the CSV form factors and reanalyse the available parity-violating electron scattering data, up to $Q^2$ $\sim$ 1 GeV$^2$. Our analysis considers systematic expansio…
A strangeness and isospin asymmetry including statistical bootstrap model analysis of the multiparticle system produced in the Pb+Pb collision at 158 AGeV at CERN is presented. It is concluded that this interaction process has not crossed the deconfinenent line. Direct comparisons with the results of similar analyses pertaining to nucleus-nucleus and proton-antiproton collisions at CERN are made. The overall picture points to the S+S collision at 200 AGeV as a prime candidate of a process which has crossed the border separating the hadronic from the deconfined phase of matter.
We study meson-baryon scattering with strangeness -1 in unitary chiral perturbation theory. Ten coupled channels are considered in our work, namely $π^0 Λ$, $π^0 Σ^0$, $π^- Σ^+$, $π^+ Σ^-$, $K^- p$, $\bar{K}^0 n$, $ηΛ$, $ηΣ^0$, $K^0 Ξ^0$ and $K^+ Ξ^-$. A large amount of experimental data are analyzed, including the recent precise measurement by the SIDDHARTA Collaboration of the energy shift and width of the $1s$ state of kaonic hydrogen. This leads to a strong constraint on the free parameters in our theory and of the resulting meson-baryon scattering amplitudes. We also analyze the uncertain…
The strangeness contribution to the nucleon magnetic moment is calculated at the one-loop level in a relativistic SU(3) chiral potential model and is found to be {\em positive}, that is, with an {\em opposite} sign to the nucleon strangeness polarization. It is the ``Z'' diagram that violates the usual relation between spin and magnetic moment. The positive value is due to the contribution from the intermediate excited quark states, while the intermediate ground state gives a negative contribution. Our numerical results agree quite well with the new measurement of the SAMPLE Collaboration.
We study string fragmentation in high multiplicity proton-proton collisions in a model where the string tension fluctuates. These fluctuations produce exponential pion spectra which are fitted to the transverse momentum distributions of charged particles for different multiplicities. For each multiplicity the so obtained hadronic slope parameter defines the magnitude of the string fluctuations which in turn determines the produced ratio of strange to light quarks. PYTHIA string decay simulations are used to convert each ratio of strange to light quarks to the appropriate ratio of strange hadro…
In this paper we investigate an SU(3) extension of the chiral quark-meson model. The spectra of baryons with strangeness, charm and bottom are considered within a "rigid oscillator" version of this model. The similarity between the quark part of the Lagrangian in the model and the Wess-Zumino term in the Skyrme model is noted. The binding energies of baryonic systems with baryon number B=2 and 3 possessing strangeness or heavy flavor are estimated. The results obtained are in good qualitative agreement with those obtained previously in the topological soliton (Skyrme) model.
Appropriate combinations of up to fourth order cumulants of net strangeness fluctuations and their correlations with net baryon number and electric charge fluctuations, obtained from lattice QCD calculations, have been used to probe the strangeness carrying degrees of freedom at high temperatures. For temperatures up to the chiral crossover separate contributions of strange mesons and baryons can be well described by an uncorrelated gas of hadrons. Such a description breaks down in the chiral crossover region, suggesting that the deconfinement of strangeness takes place at the chiral crossover…
We present some recent results from soliton model calculations for the spectrum of baryons with a single heavy quark. The model comprises chiral symmetry for light flavors and (approximate) heavy spin-flavor symmetry for the heavy quarks. We focus on flavor symmetry breaking for strangeness degrees of freedom.
Within an extended chiral constituent quark formalism, we investigate contributions from all possible five-quark components in the octet baryons to the pion-baryon ($σ_{πB}$) and strangeness-baryon ($σ_{s B}$) sigma terms; $B \equiv N,~Λ,~Σ,~Ξ$. The probabilities of the quark-antiquark components in the ground-state baryon octet wave functions are calculated by taking the baryons to be admixtures of three- and five-quark components, with the relevant transitions handled {\it via} the $^{3}$P$_{0}$ mechanism. Predictions for $σ_{πB}$ and $σ_{s B}$ obtained by using input parameters taken from t…
We calculate the inclusive production of a polarized $Λ$ or $\barΛ$ hyperon from the single longitudinally polarized proton and proton ($pp$) collision at RHIC. By comparing the data reported by the STAR Collaboration, we find that this process is sensitive to the polarization of strange and antistrange quarks of the proton in the experimental range. By introducing asymmetric coefficients with the minimization of $χ^2$, we further identify the asymmetry of the polarized strange-antistrange quarks in the proton sea and find that the first moment is $Δs \approx -0.025\pm 0.019$ for strange quark…
NA61/SHINE is a fixed target experiment at the CERN Super-Proton- Synchrotron. The main goals of the experiment are to discover the critical point of strongly interacting matter and to study the properties of the onset of deconfinement. In order to reach these goals, a study of hadron production properties is performed in nucleus-nucleus, proton-proton and proton-nucleus interactions as a function of collision energy and size of the colliding nuclei. In this paper, I will review recent results on strangeness production in p+p, Be+Be and Ar+Sc collisions in the SPS energy range. Kinematic spect…
We present a model of exclusive $ϕ$-meson lepto-production $ep \to e'p'ϕ$ near threshold which features the strangeness gravitational form factors of the proton. We argue that the shape of the differential cross section $dσ/dt$ is a sensitive probe of the strangeness D-term of the proton.
The CLAS Collaboration recently reported measured ratios of pion and kaon electroproduction cross sections from a proton target and extracted the ratios for light and strange quark--antiquark pairs, ${u\bar{u}}/ {d\bar{d}}$ and ${s\bar{s}}/ {d\bar{d}}$. Within an extended chiral constituent quark formalism, we investigate contributions to those ratios from the nonperturbative mechanism due to all possible intrinsic $|uudQ \bar{Q}\rangle$ Fock states in the proton; with $Q \bar{Q} \equiv u\bar{u},~ d\bar{d},~s\bar{s},~c\bar{c}$. Our results are compared with the CLAS data and findings from othe…
Apparent channel-dependent violations of the OZI rule in nucleon-antinucleon annihilation reactions are discussed in the presence of an intrinsic strangeness component in the nucleon. Admixture of strange-antistrange quark pairs in the nucleon wave function enables the direct coupling to the phi-meson in the annihilation channel without violating the OZI rule. Three forms are considered in this work for the strangeness content of the proton wave function, namely, the uud cluster with a strange-antistrange sea quark component, kaon-hyperon clusters based on a simple chiral quark model, and the …
We present our calculation of the correlator $<T\{V_sV_s^†\} >$ between two external vector-currents with the quantum-numbers of a charged kaon. The renormalized expression to $O(p^6)$ in $SU(3) \times SU(3)$ standard chiral perturbation theory is finite and scale-independent. The result is used to determine, via an IMFESR, the phenomenologically relevant finite $O(p^6)$-counterterm combination $Q_V$ in a way which is not sensitive to isospin breaking.
Strangeness enhancement and collective flow are considered signatures of the quark gluon plasma formation. These phenomena have been detected not only in relativistic heavy ion collisions but also in high energy, high multiplicity events of proton-proton and proton-nucleus ("small systems") scatterings. Indeed, a universal behavior emerges by considering the parton density in the transverse plane as the dynamical quantity to specify the initial condition of the collisions. On the other hand, $e^+ e^-$ annihilation data at LEP and lower energies indicate that there is no strangeness enhancement…
After the EMC and subsequent experiments at CERN, SLAC and DESY on the deep inelastic scattering of polarized leptons on polarized nucleons, it is now established that the Q^2=0 value of the axial strange form factor of the nucleon, a quantity which is connected with the spin of the proton and is quite relevant from the theoretical point of view, is relatively large. In this review we consider different methods and observables that allow to obtain information on the strange axial and vector form factors of the nucleon at different values of Q^2. These methods are based on the investigation of …
We perform a chiral extrapolation of lattice data on the scalar K pi form factor and the ratio of the kaon and pion decay constants within Chiral Perturbation Theory to two loops. We determine the value of the scalar form factor at zero momentum transfer, at the Callan-Treiman point and at its soft kaon analog as well as its slope. Results are in good agreement with their determination from experiment using the standard couplings of quarks to the W boson. The slope is however rather large. A study of the convergence of the chiral expansion is also performed.
Building on, and extending, the result of a higher-order in-medium chiral perturbation theory combined with renormalization group arguments and a variety of observations of the vector manifestation of Harada-Yamawaki hidden local symmetry theory, we obtain a surprisingly simple description of kaon condensation by fluctuating around the "vector manifestation (VM)" fixed point identified to be the chiral restoration point. Our development establishes that strangeness condensation takes place at about 3 n_0 where n_0 is nuclear matter density. This result depends only on the renoramlization-group…
We reexamine the shapes of the strange quark parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton by means of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) analysis of {\hera} deep inelastic scattering cross section measurement at DESY, and inclusive gauge boson production and $W$ boson production associated with a charm quark from LHC at CERN. We find that there is an overall agreement on the strange quark distributions obtained from CMS $W$ + charm and ATLAS $W/Z$ data at the parton momentum fraction range $x \lesssim 10^{-2}$. Meanwhile, there is also a strong tension between these data towards large $x$. We …
Hyperon-nucleon interactions serve as basic inputs to studies of hypernuclear physics and dense (neutron) stars. Unfortunately, a precise understanding of these important quantities have lagged far behind that of the nucleon-nucleon interaction due to lack of high precision experimental data. Historically, hyperon-nucleon interactions are either formulated in quark models or meson exchange models. In recent years, lattice QCD simulations and chiral effective field theory approaches start to offer new insights from first principles. In the present work, we contrast the state of art lattice QCD …
Lattice QCD calculations with chiral fermions of the $π$N sigma term $σ_{πN}$ and strangeness sigma term $σ_{sN}$ including chiral interpolation with continuum and volume corrections are provided in this work, with the excited-state contaminations subtracted properly. We calculate the scalar matrix element for the light/strange quark directly and find $σ_{πN}=45.9(7.4)(2.8)$ MeV, with the disconnected insertion part contributing 20(12)(4)\%, and $σ_{sN}=40.2(11.7)(3.5)$ MeV, which is somewhat smaller than $σ_{πN}$. The ratio of the strange/light scalar matrix elements is $y$ = 0.09(3)(1).
Predictions for a light collective $Θ^+$ baryon state (with strangeness +1) based on the collective quantization of chiral soliton models are shown to be inconsistent with large $N_c$ QCD. The lightest strangeness +1 state to emerge from the analysis has an excitation energy which at large $N_c$ scales as $N_c^0$ while collective quantization is legitimate only for excitations which go to zero as $N_c \to \infty$. This inconsistency strongly suggests that predictions for $Θ^+$ properties based on collective quantization of chiral solitons are not valid.
We calculate the correlator between two external vector-currents having the quantum-numbers of a charged kaon. We give the renormalized expression to two loops in standard chiral perturbation theory in the isospin limit, which, as a physical result, is finite and scale-independent. Applications include a low energy theorem, valid at two loop order, of a flavor breaking combination of vector current correlators as well as a determination of the phenomenologically relevant finite $O(p^6)$-counterterm combination $Q_V$ by means of inverse moment finite energy sum rules. This determination is less…
The study of the neutral current elastic scattering of neutrinos on protons at lower energies can be used as a compelling probe to improve our knowledge of the strangeness of the proton. We consider a neutrino beam generated from pion decay at rest, as provided by a cyclotron or a spallation neutron source and a 1 kton scintillating detector with a potential similar to the Borexino detector. Despite several backgrounds from solar and radioactive sources it is possible to estimate two optimal energy windows for the analysis, one between 0.65-1.1 MeV and another between 1.73-2.2 MeV. The expecte…
The effect of a non-zero strangeness chemical potential on the strong interaction phase diagram has been studied within the framework of the SU(3) quark-hadron chiral parity-doublet model. Both, the nuclear liquid-gas and the chiral/deconfinement phase transitions are modified. The first-order line in the chiral phase transition is observed to vanish completely, with the entire phase boundary becoming a crossover. These changes in the nature of the phase transitions are expected to modify various susceptibilities, the effects of which might be detectable in particle-number distributions result…
We compute the strangeness and light-quark contributions Delta s, Delta u and Delta d to the proton spin in nf=2 lattice QCD at a pion mass of about 285 MeV and at a lattice spacing a approx 0.073 fm, using the non-perturbatively improved Sheikholeslami-Wohlert Wilson action. We carry out the renormalization of these matrix elements which involves mixing between contributions from different quark flavours. Our main result is the small negative value MSbar scheme value Delta s = -0.020(10)(4), at a scale mu = 7.4 GeV, of the strangeness contribution to the nucleon spin. The second error is an e…
Chiral symmetry is known to be decisive for an understanding of the low energy sector of strong interactions. It is thus important for a model of relativistic heavy ion collisions to incorporate the dynamical breaking and restoration of chiral symmetry. Thus we study an expansion scenario for a quark-meson plasma using the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in its three flavor version. The equations of motion for light and strange quarks as well as for pions, kaons and etas are solved using a QMD type algorithm, which is based on a parametrization of the Wigner function. The scattering processes …
It is pointed out that the Chiral Constituent Quark Model (CCQM) interactions that bind the H dibaryon and Lambda-Lambda-3H overbind Lambda-Lambda-6He by more than 4 MeV, thus outdating the CCQM in the strangeness S=-2 sector.
The standard collective quantization treatment of the strangeness content of the nucleon in chiral soliton models such as the Skyrmion is shown to be inconsistent with the semi-classical expansion on which the treatment is based. The strangeness content vanishes at leading order in the semi-classical expansion. Collective quantization correctly describes some contributions to the strangeness content at the first nonvanishing order in the expansion, but neglects others at the same order--namely, those associated with continuum modes. Moreover, there are fundamental difficulties in computing at …
An experimental overview of the energy dependence of strangeness production is presented. The strange hadrons are considered a good probe to study the QCD matter created in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. The heavy-ion experiments at SPS, RHIC, and LHC have recorded a wealth of data in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at several beam energies. In this proceeding, I discuss the invariant yield and azimuthal anisotropy measurement of strange hadrons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS, RHIC, and LHC.
% An analysis is made of the particle composition (hadrochemistry) of the final state in proton-proton (p-p), proton-lead (p-Pb) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions as a function of the charged particle multiplicity ($\dNchdeta$). The thermal model is used to determine the chemical freeze-out temperature as well as the radius and strangeness saturation factor $γ_s$. Three different ensembles are used in the analysis namely, the grand canonical ensemble, the canonical ensemble with exact strangeness conservation and the canonical ensemble with exact baryon number, strangeness and electric charge c…
We revisit the classical relation between the strangeness content of the nucleon, the pion-nucleon sigma term and the $SU(3)_F$ breaking of the baryon masses in the context of Lorentz covariant chiral perturbation theory with explicit decuplet-baryon resonance fields. We find that a value of the pion-nucleon sigma term of $\sim$60 MeV is not necessarily at odds with a small strangeness content of the nucleon, in line with the fulfillment of the OZI rule. Moreover, this value is indeed favored by our next-to-leading order calculation. We compare our results with earlier ones and discuss the con…
