Variational relation problems allow a general approach for variational inequalities, equilibrium problems, optimization problems, variational inclusions. In this paper we consider a system of quasi-variational relations and determine some conditions in which the solvability of the independent problems imply the existence of a solution for the system. We particularize then the result for a system of variational inequalities and for a constrained Nash equilibrium problem.
The so-called l0 pseudonorm, or cardinality function, counts the number of nonzero components of a vector. In this paper, we analyze the l0 pseudonorm by means of so-called Capra (constant along primal rays) conjugacies, for which the underlying source norm and its dual norm are both orthant-strictly monotonic (a notion that we formally introduce and that encompasses the lp norms, but for the extreme ones). We obtain three main results. First, we show that the l0 pseudonorm is equal to its Capra-biconjugate, that is, is a Capra-convex function. Second, we deduce an unexpected consequence, that…
Nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF), which is the approximation of a data matrix as the product of two nonnegative matrices, is a key issue in machine learning and data analysis. One approach to NMF is to formulate the problem as a nonconvex optimization problem of minimizing the distance between a data matrix and the product of two nonnegative matrices with nonnegativity constraints and then solve the problem using an iterative algorithm. The algorithms commonly used are the multiplicative update algorithm and the alternating least-squares algorithm. Although both algorithms converge quick…
In this paper, we introduce a split general quasi-variational inequality problem which is a natural extension of split variational inequality problem, quasi-variational and variational inequality problems in Hilbert spaces. Using projection method, we propose an iterative algorithm for the split general quasi-variational inequality problem and discuss some its special cases. Further, we discuss the convergence criteria of these iterative algorithms. The results presented in this paper generalize, unify and improve the previously known many results for the quasi-variational and variational ineq…
We consider a quasi-variational inequality governed by a moving set. We employ the assumption that the movement of the set has a small Lipschitz constant. Under this requirement, we show that the quasi-variational inequality has a unique solution which depends Lipschitz-continuously on the source term. If the data of the problem is (directionally) differentiable, the solution map is directionally differentiable as well. We also study the optimal control of the quasi-variational inequality and provide necessary optimality conditions of strongly stationary type.
We study the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the inverse quasi-variational inequality problem. Motivated by the neural network approach to solving optimization problems such as variational inequality, monotone inclusion, and inverse variational problems, we consider a neural network associated with the inverse quasi-variational inequality problem, and establish the existence and uniqueness of a solution to the proposed network. We prove that every trajectory of the proposed neural network converges to the unique solution of the inverse quasi-variational inequality problem and that the…
In this paper, we introduce a Bayesian abstract fuzzy economy model and we prove the Bayesian fuzzy equilibrium existence. As applications, we prove the existence of the solutions for two types of random quasi-variational inequalities with random fuzzy mappings and we also obtain random fixed point theorems.
In this paper, we study a new variant of Moreau's sweeping process with velocity constraint. Based on an adapted version of Moreau's catching-up algorithm, we show the well-posedness (in the sense existence and uniqueness) of this problem in a general framework. We show the equivalence between this implicit sweeping process and a quasistatic evolution variational inequality. It is well known that the variational formulations of many mechanical problems with unilateral contact and friction lead to an evolution variational inequality. As an application, we reformulate the quasistatic antiplane f…
In this paper, we introduce an abstract fuzzy economy model with a measure space of agents which generalizes Patriche's model (2009), we obtain a theorem of fuzzy equilibrium existence and we prove the existence of the solutions for two types of random quasi-variational inequalities with random fuzzy mappings. As a consequence, we obtain random fixed point theorems.
We study the connection between a multitime scalar variational problem (SVP), a multitime vector variational problem (VVP) and a multitime vector fractional variational problem (VFP). For (SVP), we establish necessary optimality conditions. For both vector variational problems, we define the notions of Pareto efficient solution and of normal efficient solution and we establish necessary efficiency conditions for (VVP) and (VFP) using both notions. The main purpose of the paper is to establish sufficient efficiency conditions for the vector problems (VVP) and (VFP). Moreover, we obtain sufficie…
The paper addresses the study of a class of evolutionary quasi-variational inequalities of the parabolic type arising in the formation and growth models of granular and cohensionless materials. Such models and their mathematical descriptions are highly challenging and require powerful tools of their analysis and implementation. We formulate a space-time continuous optimal control problem for a basic model of this type, develop several regularization and approximation procedures, and establish the existence of optimal solutions for the time-continuous and space-discrete problem. Viewing a versi…
In this paper, we introduce an abstract fuzzy economy (generalized fuzzy game) model with a countable space of actions and we study the existence of the fuzzy equilibrium. As applications, two types of results are obtained. The first ones concern the existence of the solutions for systems of generalized quasi-variational inequalities with random fuzzy mappings which we define. The last ones are new random fixed point theorems for correspondences with values in complete countable metric spaces.
This paper is concerned with the variational inequality problem (VIP) over the fixed point set of a quasi-nonexpansive operator. We propose, in particular, an algorithm which entails, at each step, projecting onto a suitably chosen half-space, and prove that the sequences it generates converge to the unique solution of the VIP. We also present an application of our result to a hierarchical optimization problem.
In this paper, we consider a dynamic viscoelastic contact problem with friction and wear, and describe it as a system of nonlinear partial differential equations. We formulate the previous problem as a hyperbolic quasi-variational inequality by employing the variational method. We adopt the Rothe method to show the existence and uniqueness of weak solution for the hyperbolic quasi-variational inequality under mild conditions. We also give a fully discrete scheme for solving the hyperbolic quasi-variational inequality and obtain error estimates for the fully discrete scheme.
This paper is focused on a stochastic quasi-variational inequality (SQVI) problem with a continuous and strongly-monotone mapping over a closed and convex set where the projection onto the constraint set may not be easy to compute. We present an inexact variance reduced stochastic scheme to solve SQVI problems and analyzed its convergence rate and oracle complexity. A linear rate of convergence is obtained by progressively increasing sample-size and approximating the projection operator. Moreover, we show how a competition among blood donation organizations can be modeled as an SQVI and we pro…
This paper deals with quasi-variational inequality problems (QVIs) in a generic Banach space setting. We provide a theoretical framework for the analysis of such problems which is based on two key properties: the pseudomonotonicity (in the sense of Brezis) of the variational operator and a Mosco-type continuity of the feasible set mapping. We show that these assumptions can be used to establish the existence of solutions and their computability via suitable approximation techniques. In addition, we provide a practical and easily verifiable sufficient condition for the Mosco-type continuity pro…
Variational inequality problems allow for capturing an expansive class of problems, including convex optimization problems, convex Nash games and economic equilibrium problems, amongst others. Yet in most practical settings, such problems are complicated by uncertainty, motivating the examination of a stochastic generalization of the variational inequality problem and its extensions in which the components of the mapping contain expectations. When the associated sets are unbounded, ascertaining existence requires having access to analytical forms of the expectations. Naturally, in practical se…
Viscosity Iterative algorithm for solving Variational Inclusion and Fixed point problems involving Multivalued Quasi-Nonexpansive and Demicontractive Operators in real Hilbert Space
We study a class of quasi-variational inequality problems defined over infinite dimensional Banach space and deduce sufficient conditions for ensuring solutions to such problems under the upper semi-continuity and pseudomonotonicity assumptions on the map defining the inequalities. The special structure of the quasi-variational inequality enables us to show the occurrence of solutions for such inequalities based on the classical existence theorem for variational inequalities. This special type of quasi-variational inequalities is motivated by the pure exchange economic problems and Radner equi…
In this note, we prove that the minimal and maximal solution maps associated to elliptic quasi-variational inequalities of obstacle type are directionally differentiable with respect to the forcing term and for directions that are signed. Along the way, we show that the minimal and maximal solutions can be seen as monotone limits of solutions of certain variational inequalities and that the aforementioned directional derivatives can also be characterised as the monotone limits of sequences of directional derivatives associated to variational inequalities. We conclude the paper with some exampl…
The directional differentiability of the solution map of obstacle type quasi-variational inequalities (QVIs) with respect to perturbations on the forcing term is studied. The classical result of Mignot is then extended to the quasi-variational case under assumptions that allow multiple solutions of the QVI. The proof involves selection procedures for the solution set and represents the directional derivative as the limit of a monotonic sequence of directional derivatives associated to specific variational inequalities. Additionally, estimates on the coincidence set and several simplifications …
We consider quasi-variational inequalities (QVIs) with general non-local drivers and related systems of reflected backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) in a Brownian filtration. We show existence and uniqueness of viscosity solutions to the QVIs by first considering the standard (local) setting and then applying a contraction argument. In addition, the contraction argument yields existence and uniqueness of solutions to the related systems of reflected BSDEs and extends the theory of probabilistic representations of PDEs in terms of BSDEs to our specific setting.
For a class of quasi-variational inequalities (QVIs) of obstacle-type the stability of its solution set and associated optimal control problems are considered. These optimal control problems are non-standard in the sense that they involve an objective with set-valued arguments. The approach to study the solution stability is based on perturbations of minimal and maximal elements of the solution set of the QVI with respect to {monotone} perturbations of the forcing term. It is shown that different assumptions are required for studying decreasing and increasing perturbations and that the optimiz…
For Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equations, with the standard definitions of viscosity super-solution and sub-solution, it is known that there is a comparison between any (viscosity) super-solutions and sub-solutions. This should be the same for HJB type quasi-variational inequalities (QVIs) arising from optimal impulse control problems. However, according to a natural adoption of the definition found in Barles 1985, Barles 1985b, the uniqueness of the viscosity solution could be guaranteed, but the comparison between viscosity super- and sub-solutions could not be guaranteed. This paper intr…
We analyze the asymptotic behavior for a system of fully nonlinear parabolic and elliptic quasi variational inequalities. These equations are related to robust switching control problems introduced in [3]. We prove that, as time horizon goes to infinity (resp. discount factor goes to zero) the long run average solution to the parabolic system (resp. the limiting discounted solution to the elliptic system) is characterized by a solution of a nonlinear system of ergodic variational inequalities. Our results hold under a dissipativity condition and without any non degeneracy assumption on the dif…

To address the non-negativity dropout problem of quaternion models, a novel quasi non-negative quaternion matrix factorization (QNQMF) model is presented for color image processing. To implement QNQMF, the quaternion projected gradient algorithm and the quaternion alternating direction method of multipliers are proposed via formulating QNQMF as the non-convex constraint quaternion optimization problems. Some properties of the proposed algorithms are studied. The numerical experiments on the color image reconstruction show that these algorithms encoded on the quaternion perform better than thes…
Since its introduction over 50 years ago, the concept of Mosco convergence has permeated through diverse areas of mathematics and applied sciences. These include applied analysis, the theory of partial differential equations, numerical analysis, and infinite dimensional constrained optimization, among others. In this paper we explore some of the consequences of Mosco convergence on applied problems that involve moving sets, with some historical accounts, and modern trends and features. In particular, we focus on connections with density of convex intersections, finite element approximations, q…
