This is a summary of how the definition of quantum singularity is extended from static space-times to conformally static space-times. Examples are given.
The dynamics of Einstein-conformally coupled Higgs field (EccH) system is investigated near the initial singularities in the presence of Friedman-Robertson--Walker symmetries. We solve the field equations asymptotically up to fourth order near the singularities analytically, and determine the solutions numerically as well. We found all the asymptotic, power series singular solutions, which are (1) solutions with a scalar polynomial curvature singularity but the Higgs field is bounded (`Small Bang'), or (2) solutions with a Milne type singularity with bounded spacetime curvature and Higgs field…
We resume former discussions of the conformally invariant wave equation on a Schwarzschild background, with a particular focus on the behaviour of solutions near the 'cylinder', i.e. Friedrich's representation of spacelike infinity. This analysis can be considered a toy model for the behaviour of the full Einstein equations and the resulting logarithmic singularities that appear to be characteristic for massive spacetimes. The investigation of the Cauchy problem for the conformally invariant wave equation (Frauendiener and Hennig 2018, Class. Quantum Grav. 35, 065015) showed that solutions gen…
We extend earlier numerical and analytical considerations of the conformally invariant wave equation on a Schwarzschild background from the case of spherically symmetric solutions, discussed in Class. Quantum Grav. 34, 045005 (2017), to the case of general, nonsymmetric solutions. A key element of our approach is the modern standard representation of spacelike infinity as a cylinder. With a decomposition into spherical harmonics, we reduce the four-dimensional wave equation to a family of two-dimensional equations. These equations can be used to study the behaviour at the cylinder, where the s…
We study a higher order conformally coupled scalar tensor theory endowed with a covariant geometric constraint relating the scalar curvature with the Gauss-Bonnet scalar. It is a particular Horndeski theory including a canonical kinetic term but without shift or parity symmetry for the scalar. The theory also stems from a Kaluza-Klein reduction of a well defined higher dimensional metric theory. Properties of an asymptotically flat spherically symmetric black hole are analyzed, and new slowly rotating and radiating extensions are found. Through disformal transformations of the static configura…
Quantum effects and superquintessence in the new age of precision cosmology
We show that a class of finite quantum non-local gravitational theories is conformally invariant at classical as well as at quantum level. This is actually a range of conformal anomaly-free theories in the spontaneously broken phase of the Weyl symmetry. At classical level we show how the Weyl conformal invariance is able to tame all the spacetime singularities that plague not only Einstein gravity, but also local and weakly non-local higher derivative theories. The latter statement is proved by a singularity theorem that applies to a large class of weakly non-local theories. Therefore, we are…
Critical collapse of a massless scalar field in spherical symmetry is systematically studied. We combine numerical simulations and asymptotic analysis, and synthesize critical collapse, spacetime singularities, and complex science. First set of approximate analytic expressions near the center are obtained. We observe that, near the center, the spacetime is nearly conformally flat, the dynamics is not described by the Kasner solution, and the Kreschmann scalar is proportional to r^(-5.30), where r is the areal radius. These features are significantly different from those in black hole singulari…
We analytically investigate the pertubative effects of a quantum conformally-coupled scalar field on rotating (2+1)-dimensional black holes and naked singularities. In both cases we obtain the quantum-backreacted metric analytically. In the black hole case, we explore the quantum corrections on different regions of relevance for a rotating black hole geometry. We find that the quantum effects lead to a growth of both the event horizon and the ergosphere, as well as to a reduction of the angular velocity compared to their corresponding unperturbed values. Quantum corrections also give rise to t…
A throughout investigation is made of the exact black hole solution in five-dimensional warped conformal dilaton gravity, found in an earlier investigation. The singularities of the dynamical black hole spacetime are determined by the zeros of a meromorphic quintic polynomial, which has no essential singularities. The solutions of the polynomial are analyzed in the complex plane in relation to the icosahedron group and by the Hopf-fibrations of the Klein surface. The model fits the antipodal boundary condition, i.e., antipodal points in the projected space are identified using the embedding of…
