Vanishing theorems and the multigraded regularity of nonsingular subvarieties

Multigraded Cayley-Chow forms

We introduce a theory of multigraded Cayley-Chow forms associated to subvarieties of products of projective spaces. Two new phenomena arise: first, the construction turns out to require certain inequalities on the dimensions of projections; and second, in positive characteristic the multigraded Cayley-Chow forms can have higher multiplicities. The theory also provides a natural framework for understanding multifocal tensors in computer vision.

Codimension two nonsingular subvarieties of quadrics: scrolls and classification in degree $d\leq 10$

Let $X$ be a codimension two nonsingular subvariety of a nonsingular quadric $\Q{n}$ of dimension $n\geq 5$. We classify such subvarieties when they are scrolls. Some adjunction-theoretic properties of codimension two nonsingular subvarieties of quadrics

We make precise the structure of the first two reduction morphisms associated with codimension two nonsingular subvarieties of quadrics $\Q{n}$, $n\geq 5$. We give a coarse classification of the same class of subvarieties when they are assumed to be not of log-general-type. A finiteness theorem for low-codimensional nonsingular subvarieties of quadrics

We prove that there are only finitely many families of codimension two nonsingular subvarieties of quadrics $\Q{n}$ which are not of general type, for $n=5$ and $n\geq 7$. We prove a similar statement also for the case of higher codimension. The case $n=6$ has been recently settled by Fania-Ottaviani. Wonderful compactification of an arrangement of subvarieties

We define the wonderful compactification of an arrangement of subvarieties. Given a complex nonsingular algebraic variety $Y$ and certain collection $\mathcal{G}$ of subvarieties of $Y$, the wonderful compactification $Y_\mathcal{G}$ can be constructed by a sequence of blow-ups of $Y$ along the subvarieties of the arrangement. This generalizes the Fulton-MacPherson configuration spaces and the wonderful models given by De Concini and Procesi. We give a condition on the order of blow-ups in the construction of $Y_\mathcal{G}$ such that each blow-up is along a nonsingular center.
