We study e+e- pair production in proton-proton and in nucleus-nucleus collisions from SIS to LHC energies within the parton-hadron-string dynamics (PHSD) approach which incorporates explicit partonic degrees-of-freedom in terms of strongly interacting quasiparticles (quarks and gluons) in line with an equation-of-state from lattice QCD as well as the dynamical hadronization and hadronic collision dynamics in the final reaction phase. We find a visible in-medium effect in the low mass dilepton sector from dynamical vector-meson spectral functions from SIS to SPS energies whereas at RHIC and LHC energies such medium effects become more moderate. In the intermediate mass regime from 1.1 to 3 GeV pronounced traces of the partonic degrees of freedom are found at SPS and RHIC energies which superseed the hadronic (multi-meson) channels as well as the correlated and uncorrelated semi-leptonic D-meson decays. The dilepton production from the strongly interacting quark gluon plasma (sQGP) becomes already visible at top SPS energies and more pronounced at RHIC and LHC energies.
It is demonstrated that the presence of a phase transition in heavy ion collisions, at beam energies that probe dense QCD matter, leads to a significant enhancement of the dilepton yield per produced pion due to the extended emission time. In addition, the temperature of low mass dileptons shows a modest decrease due to the mixed phase. The emission of dileptons in the SIS18-SIS100 beam energies range is studied by augmenting the UrQMD transport model with a realistic density dependent equation of state, as well as two different phase transitions. This is achieved by extending the molecular dy…

We use the microscopic GiBUU transport model to calculate dilepton ($e^+e^-$) production in heavy-ion collisions at SIS18 energies focusing on the effect of collisional broadening of the $ρ$-meson. The collisional width of the $ρ$-meson at finite temperature and baryon density in nuclear matter is calculated on the basis of the collision integral of the GiBUU model. A systematic comparison with HADES data on dilepton production in heavy-ion collisions is performed. The collisional broadening of the $ρ$ improves the agreement between theory and experiment for the dilepton invariant-mass distrib…
The vector $U$-bosons, or so called 'dark photons', are one of the possible candidates for the dark matter mediators. They are supposed to interact with the standard matter via a 'vector portal' due to the $U(1)-U(1)^\prime$ symmetry group mixing which might make them visible in particle and heavy-ion experiments. While there is no confirmed observation of dark photons, the detailed analysis of different experimental data allows to estimate the upper limit for the kinetic mixing parameter $ε^2$ depending on the mass $M_U$ of $U$-bosons which is also unknown. In this study we present theoretica…
Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) of heavy ions can be used as a clean environment to study two-photon induced interactions such as dilepton pair photoproduction. Recently, precise data on lepton pair production in UPCs were obtained by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC where significant deviations, of up to 20%, from available theoretical predictions were observed. In this work, we present a Monte Carlo event generator, Upcgen, that implements a refined treatment of the photon flux allowing us to improve the agreement with ATLAS data at large dilepton rapidities. Besides, the new generator off…
It is shown that production of low-mass $e^+e^-$-pairs in ultraperipheral nuclear collisions is enhanced due to the Sommerfeld-Gamow-Sakharov (SGS) factor. This effect is especially strong near the threshold of creation of unbound $e^+e^-$-pairs with low masses in the two-photon fusion. Coulomb attraction of the non-relativistic components of such pairs may lead to the increased intensity of 511 keV photons. It can be recorded at the NICA collider and has some astrophysical implications. The analogous effect can be observed at LHC in dilepton production.
