The purpose of this paper is to study the asymptotic behavior of the positive solutions of the problem $$ \partial_t u-Δu=a u-b(x) u^p \text{in} Ω\times \R^+, u(0)=u_0, u(t)|_{\partial Ω}=0 $$ as $p\to +\infty$, where $Ω$ is a bounded domain and $b(x)$ is a nonnegative function. We deduce that the limiting configuration solves a parabolic obstacle problem, and afterwards we fully describe its long time behavior.
This paper deals with the fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with signal-dependent sensitivities, \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu-\nabla \cdot (uχ(v)\nabla v) +\nabla \cdot (uξ(w)\nabla w), &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] v_t=Δv-v+u, &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] w_t=Δw-w+u, &x \in Ω,\ t>0 \end{cases} \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions and initial conditions, where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ $(n \ge 2)$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary, $χ, ξ$ are functions satisfying some conditions. Global existence and boundedness of classical solutions to the syst…
The main goal of this paper is twofold. First, it characterizes the existence of positive periodic solutions for a general class of weighted periodic-parabolic logistic problems of degenerate type (see (1.1)). This result provides us with is a substantial generalization of Theorem 1.1 of Daners and López-Gómez [12] even for the elliptic counterpart of (1.1), and of some previous findings of the authors in [1] and [2]. Then, it sharpens some results of [19] by enlarging the class of critical degenerate weight functions for which (1.1) admits a positive periodic solution in an unbounded interval…
This paper deals with the higher dimension quasilinear parabolic-parabolic Keller-Segel system involving a source term of logistic type $ u_t=\nabla\cdot(ϕ(u)\nabla u)-χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v)+g(u)$, $τv_t=Δv-v+u$ in $Ω\times (0,T)$, subject to nonnegative initial data and homogeneous Neumann boundary condition, where $Ω$ is smooth and bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 2$, $ϕ$ and $g$ are smooth and positive functions satisfying $ks^p\leϕ$ when $s\ge s_0>1$, $g(s) \le as - μs^2$ for $s>0$ with $g(0)\ge0$ and constants $a\ge 0$, $τ,χ,μ>0$. It was known that the model without the logistic s…
We consider the following fully parabolic Keller--Segel system with logistic source $$ \left\{\begin{array}{ll} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v)+ au-μu^2,\quad x\in Ω, t>0, \disp{v_t=Δv- v +u},\quad x\in Ω, t>0, \end{array}\right.\eqno(KS) $$ over a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N(N\geq1)$, with smooth boundary $\partialΩ$, the parameters $a\in \mathbb{R}, μ>0, χ>0$. It is proved that if $μ>0$, then $(KS)$ admits a global weak solution, while if $μ>\frac{(N-2)_{+}}{N}χC^{\frac{1}{\frac{N}{2}+1}}_{\frac{N}{2}+1}$, then $(KS)$ possesses a global classical solution which is bounded, where $C^{…
The present paper analyses the behavior of solutions to a degenerate logistic equation with a nonlinear term of the form b(x)f(u), where the weight function b is assumed to be nonpositive. We exploit variational techniques and comparison principle in order to study the evolutionary dynamics. A crucial role is then played by the Nehari manifold, as we note how it changes as the parameter λ in the equation or the function b vary, affecting the existence and non-existence of stationary solutions. We describe a detailed picture of the positive dynamics and also address the local behavior of soluti…
Under a precise nonlinearity-diffusivity condition we establish the decay of space-periodic entropy solutions of a multidimensional degenerate nonlinear parabolic equation.
We study global-in-time well-posedness and the behaviour and of the solution to Cauchy problem in the classical Keller-Segel system with logistic term \begin{equation*} \left. \aligned \partial_tn-Δn=&-χ\nabla\cdot(n\nabla c)+\la n-μn^2 τ\partial_tc-Δc=&-c+n \endaligned \right\}\quad\text{in}\,\,\,\RR^d\times\RR^+, \end{equation*} where $d\ge 1$, $τ,\, χ,\, μ>0$ and $λ\ge 0$. It's inspired by a previous result \cite[M. Winkler, Commun. Part. Diff. Eq., 35 (2010), 1516-1537]{Win10}, where the global-in-time boundedness of the above Keller-Segel system in smooth \emph{bounded }convex domains is …
We consider a parabolic-elliptic system of partial differential equations with chemotaxis and logistic growth given by the system $$ \left\{ \begin{array}{l} u_t -Δ(u γ(v)= μu(1-u), \\ - Δv +v=u, \end{array} \right. $$ under Neumann boundary conditions and appropriate initial data in a bounded and regular domain $Ω$ of $\R^N$ (for $N \geq 1)$, where $γ\in C^3([0, \infty))$ and satisfies the assumptions $γ(s) > 0$, $γ^{\prime}(s) \leq 0$, $γ^{\prime \prime} (s) \geq 0$, $γ^{\prime \prime \prime}(s) \leq 0$ for any $s \geq 0$ $$-2 γ^{\prime}(s) + γ^{\prime \prime}(s)s \leq μ_0< μ$$ $$\frac{[γ^{\…
In this paper, we prove Wiener's criterion for parabolic equations with singular and degenerate coefficients. To be precise, we study the problem of the regularity of boundary points for the Dirichlet problem for degenerate parabolic equations, and give a geometric characterization of those boundary points that are regular.
In this paper we prove the existence of finite traveling-wave type solutions to the nonlinear double degenerate parabolic equation of turbulent filtration with absorption.
The current paper is concerned with the spreading speeds of the following parabolic-parabolic chemotaxis model with logistic source on $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, \begin{equation} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla\cdot ( u\nabla v) + u(a-bu),\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^{N},\cr {v_t}=Δv -λv+μu,\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^{N}. \end{cases}(1) \end{equation} where $χ, \ a,\ b,\ λ,\ μ$ are positive constants. Assume $b>\frac{Nμχ}{4}$. Among others, it is proved that $2\sqrt{a}$ is the spreading speed of the global classical solutions of (1) with nonempty compactly supported initial functions, that is, $$ \lim_{t\to\infty}\sup…

We prove global existence of a nonnegative weak solution to a degenerate parabolic system, which models the spreading of insoluble surfactant on a thin liquid film.
In this paper, we analyze main properties of the volume and layer potentials as well as the Poisson integral for a multi-dimensional degenerate parabolic equation. As consequences, we obtain trace formulae of the heat volume potential and the Poisson integral which solve Kac's problem for degenerate parabolic equations in cylindrical domains.
In this work, we prove a Carleman estimate for a parabolic problem which has a dissipative degenerate term. The prove relies on choose a suitable weight function that change of sign inside the control domain.
We prove existence of strong traces at $t=0$ for quasi-solutions to (multidimensional) degenerate parabolic equations with no non-degeneracy conditions. In order to solve the problem, we combine the blow up method and a strong precompactness result for quasi-solutions to degenerate parabolic equations with the induction argument with respect to the space dimension.
We prove locally in time the existence of a smooth solution for multidimensional two-phase Stefan problem for degenerate parabolic equations of the porous medium type. We establish also natural Hölder class for the boundary conditions in the Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for a degenerate parabolic equation.
Degenerate abstract parabolic equations with variable coefficients are studied. Here the boundary conditions are nonlocal. The maximal regularity properties of solutions for elliptic and parabolic problems and Strichartz type estimates in mixed $L_{p}$ spaces are obtained. Moreover, the existence and uniqueness of optimal regular solution of mixed problem for nonlinear parabolic equation is established. Note that, these problems arise in fluid mechanics and environmental engineering.
This paper is concerned with the attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with superlinear logistic degradation, \begin{align*} \begin{cases} u_t = Δu - χ\nabla\cdot(u \nabla v) + ξ\nabla\cdot (u \nabla w) + λu - μu^k, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δv + αu - βv, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0,\\[1.05mm] 0= Δw + γu - δw, \quad &x \in Ω,\ t>0, \end{cases} \end{align*} under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, in a ball $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \ge 3$), with constant parameters $λ\in \mathbb{R}$, $k>1$, $μ, χ, ξ, α, β, γ, δ>0$. Blow-up phenomena in the system have been well investigated in the c…
We study existence and uniqueness of solutions to a class of nonlinear degenerate parabolic equations, in bounded domains. We show that there exists a unique solution which satisfies possibly inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. To this purpose some barrier functions are properly introduced and used.
We give sufficient conditions under which the convergence of finite difference approximations in the space variable of possibly degenerate second order parabolic and elliptic equations can be accelerated to any given order of convergence by Richardson's method.
We show Carleman estimates, observability inequalities and null controllability results for parabolic equations with non smooth coefficients degenerating at an interior point.
Conditions for the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for a class of nonlinear nonlocal degenerate parabolic equations are established. The asymptotic behaviour of the solutions as time tends to infinity are also studied. In particular, the finite time extinction and polynomial decay properties are proved.
This paper deals with the quasilinear parabolic-elliptic chemotaxis system with logistic source and nonlinear production, \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} u_t=\nabla \cdot (D(u) \nabla u) - \nabla \cdot (S(u)\nabla v) + λu - μu^κ, & x\inΩ,\ t>0, \\[1mm] 0=Δv - \overline{M_f}(t) + f(u), & x\inΩ,\ t>0, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $λ>0$, $μ>0$, $κ>1$ and $\overline{M_f}(t):=\frac{1}{|Ω|}\int_Ω f(u(x,t))\,dx$, and $D$, $S$ and $f$ are functions generalizing the prototypes \begin{align*} D(u)=(u+1)^{m-1},\quad S(u)=u(u+1)^{α-1}\quad\mbox{and}\quad f(u)=u^\ell \end{align*} with $m\in\mathbb{R}$…
For a general class of divergence type quasi-linear degenerate parabolic equations with measurable coeffcients and lower order terms from non-linear Kato-type classes, we prove local boundedness and continuity of solutions, and the intrinsic Harnack inequality for positive solutions.
This paper is concerned with traveling wave solutions of the following full parabolic Keller-Segel chemotaxis system with logistic source, \begin{equation} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu -χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v)+u(a-bu),\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^N \cr τv_t=Δv-λv +μu,\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^N, \end{cases}(1) \end{equation} where $χ, μ,λ,a,$ and $b$ are positive numbers, and $τ\ge 0$. Among others, it is proved that if $b>2χμ$ and $τ\geq \frac{1}{2}(1-\fracλ{a})_{+} ,$ then for every $c\ge 2\sqrt{a}$, (1) has a traveling wave solution $(u,v)(t,x)=(U^{τ,c}(x\cdotξ-ct),V^{τ,c}(x\cdotξ-ct))$ ($\forall\, ξ\in\mathbb…
We study the boundary behavior of non-negative solutions to a class of degenerate/singular parabolic equations, whose prototype is the parabolic $p$-Laplacian. Assuming that such solutions continuously vanish on some distinguished part of the lateral part $S_T$ of a Lipschitz cylinder, we prove Carleson-type estimates, and deduce some consequences under additional assumptions on the equation or the domain. We then prove analogous estimates for non-negative solutions to a class of degenerate/singular parabolic equations, of porous medium type.
This paper deals with a class of nonlinear anisotropic parabolic equations with degenerate coercivity. Using the anisotropic Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type inequality, we prove some existence and regularity results for the solutions under the framework of anisotropic Sobolev spaces, which generalize the previous results of [10,18,23].
We find an explicit form of entropy solutions to a Riemann problem for a degenerate nonlinear parabolic equation with piecewise constant velocity and diffusion coefficients. It is demonstrated that this solution corresponds to the minimum point of some strictly convex function of a finite number of variables.
Under a precise nonlinearity-diffusivity assumption we establish the decay of entropy solutions of a degenerate nonlinear parabolic equation with initial data being a sum of periodic function and a function vanishing at infinity (in the sense of measure).
We study uniqueness of solutions to degenerate parabolic problems, posed in bounded domains, where no boundary conditions are imposed. Under suitable assumptions on the operator, uniqueness is obtained for solutions that satisfy an appropriate integral condition; in particular, such condition holds for possibly unbounded solutions belonging to a suitable weighted $L^1$ space.
We prove global existence of nonnegative weak solutions for a strongly coupled, fourth order degenerate parabolic system governing the motion of two thin fluid layers in a porous medium when capillarity is the sole driving mechanism.
Bounded weak solutions to a particular class of degenerate parabolic cross-diffusion systems are shown to coincide with the unique strong solution determined by the same initial condition on the maximal existence interval of the latter. The proof relies on an estimate established for a relative entropy associated to the system.
We prove an estimate on the modulus of continuity at a boundary point of a cylindrical domain for local weak solutions to degenerate parabolic equations of $p$-laplacian type. The estimate is given in terms of a Wiener-type integral, defined by a proper elliptic $p$-capacity.
In this paper the well-posedness of some degenerate parabolic equations with a dynamic boundary condition is considered. To characterize the target degenerate parabolic equation from the Cahn-Hilliard system, the nonlinear term coming from the convex part of the double-well potential is chosen using a suitable maximal monotone graph. The main topic of this paper is the existence problem under an assumption for this maximal monotone graph for treating a wider class. The existence of a weak solution is proved.
We establish weak Harnack inequalities for positive, weak supersolutions to certain doubly degenerate parabolic equations. The prototype of this kind of equations is $$\partial_tu-\operatorname{div}|u|^{m-1}|Du|^{p-2}Du=0,\quad p>2,\quad m+p>3.$$ Our proof is based on Caccioppoli inequalities, De Giorgi's estimates and Moser's iterative method.
The current paper considers the boundedness of solutions to the following quasilinear Keller-Segel model (with logistic source) $$\left\{\begin{array}{ll} u_t = \nabla\cdot(D(u)\nabla u)-χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v)+μ(u-u^2),\quad x\in Ω, t>0,\\ v_t-Δv = u-v,\quad x\in Ω, t>0,\\ (D(u)\nabla u-χu\cdot \nabla v)\cdot ν= \frac{\partial v}{\partialν}=0,\quad x\in \partialΩ, t>0,\\ u(x,0) = u_0(x),\quad v(x,0) = v_0(x),\ \ x\in Ω, \end{array}\right.$$ where $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^N(N\geq1)$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary $\partialΩ,$ $χ>0$ and $μ\geq0$. We prove that for nonnegative and suitably …
We prove that solutions to Cauchy problems related to the $p$-parabolic equations are stable with respect to the nonlinearity exponent $p$. More specifically, solutions with a fixed initial trace converge in an $L^q$-space to a solution of the limit problem as $p>2$ varies.
In this paper, we study the following chemotaxis--haptotaxis system with (generalized) logistic source $$ \left\{\begin{array}{ll} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla v)- ξ\nabla\cdot(u\nabla w)+u(a-μu^{r-1}-w), \displaystyle{v_t=Δv- v +u},\quad \\ \displaystyle{w_t=- vw},\quad\\ \displaystyle{\frac{\partial u}{\partial ν}=\frac{\partial v}{\partial ν}=\frac{\partial w}{\partial ν}=0},\quad x\in \partialΩ, t>0,\\ \displaystyle{u(x,0)=u_0(x)},v(x,0)=v_0(x),w(x,0)=w_0(x),\quad x\in Ω, \end{array}\right.\eqno(0.1) $$ %under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in a smooth bounded domain $\mathbb{R}^N(…
In the current paper, we consider the following parabolic-parabolic chemotaxis system with logistic source on $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, \begin{equation} \begin{cases} u_t=Δu-χ\nabla\cdot ( u\nabla v) + u(a-bu),\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^{N}\,\,\, t>0\cr {v_t}=Δv -λv+μu,\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^{N}\,\,\, t>0 \end{cases}(1) \end{equation} where $χ, \ a,\ b,\ λ,\ μ$ are positive constants and $N$ is a positive integer. We investigate the persistence and convergence in (1). To this end, we first prove, under the assumption $b>\frac{Nχμ}{4}$, the global existence of a unique classical solution $(u(x,t;u_0, v_0),v(x…
We discuss the well-posedness and decay of Besicovitch almost periodic solutions for a class of nonlinear degenerate anisotropic hyperbolic-parabolic equations. In our definition of weak entropy solution the initial data is only assumed in a weak sense, and in this connection the strong trace of the solution in the initial time hyperplane is also established.
This paper studies a fourth-order, nonlinear, doubly-degenerate parabolic equation derived from the thin film equation in spherical geometry. A regularization method is used to study the equation and several useful estimates are obtained. The main result of this paper is to prove the existence of a weak solution of the equation in a weighted Sobolev space.
This article presents a relationship between the sharp constant of the Sobolev inequality and the initial criterion to the global existence of degenerate parabolic-parabolic Keller-Segel system with the diffusion exponent $\frac{2n}{2+n}<m<2-\frac{2}{n}$. The global weak solution obtained in this article does not need any smallness assumption on the initial data. Furthermore, a uniform in time $L^{\infty}$ estimate of the weak solutions is obtained via the Moser iteration, where the constant in $L^p$ estimate for the gradient of the chemical concentration has been exactly formulated in order t…
We prove $L^p$-parabolic a-priori estimates for $\partial_t u + \sum_{i,j=1}^d c_{ij}(t)\partial_{x_i x_j}^2 u = f $ on $R^{d+1}$ when the coefficients $c_{ij}$ are locally bounded functions on $R$. We slightly generalize the usual parabolicity assumption and show that still $L^p$-estimates hold for the second spatial derivatives of $u$. We also investigate the dependence of the constant appearing in such estimates from the parabolicity constant. Finally we extend our estimates to parabolic equations involving non-degenerate Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type operators.
This paper deals with different characterizations of sets of nonlinear parabolic capacity zero, with respect to the parabolic p-Laplace equation. Specifically we prove that certain interior polar sets can be characterized by sets of zero nonlinear parabolic capacity. Furthermore we prove that zero capacity sets are removable for bounded supersolutions and that sets of zero capacity have a relation to a certain parabolic Hausdorff measure.
