We give a proof that the expected counting of strings attached to giant graviton branes in AdS_5 x S^5, as constrained by the Gauss Law, matches the dimension spanned by the expected dual operators in the gauge theory. The counting of string-brane configurations is formulated as a graph counting problem, which can be expressed as the number of points on a double coset involving permutation groups. Fourier transformation on the double coset suggests an ansatz for the diagonalization of the one-loop dilatation operator in this sector of strings attached to giant graviton branes. The ansatz agrees with and extends recent results which have found the dynamics of open string excitations of giants to be given by harmonic oscillators. We prove that it provides the conjectured diagonalization leading to harmonic oscillators.
We formulate sufficient conditions for the strong integrability of dressing cosets. We provide several sigma-model backgrounds solving those conditions, some of them are new and some of them were not so far formulated as the dressing cosets. The new models are based on the Drinfeld doubles having the structure of higher order jet bundles of quadratic Lie groups.
We propose a Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) for G_k x G_l / G_{k+l} conformal coset models (G any simply-laced Lie algebra) perturbed by their operator ϕ_{1,1,Adj}. An interesting adjacency structure appears and can be depicted in a sort of ``product'' of Dynkin diagrams of G and A_{k+l-1}. UV and IR limits are computed and reproduce the expected values for the central charges. For k->\infty, l fixed we obtain the TBA of the G_l WZW model perturbed by J_a\bar{J}_a, and for k,l->\infty, k-l fixed, that of Principal Chiral model with WZ term at level k-l.
In this article we compute the anomalous dimensions for a class of operators, belonging to the SU(3) sector of the theory, that have a bare dimension of order N. For these operators the large N limit and the planar limit are distinct and summing only the planar diagrams will not capture the large N dynamics. Although the spectrum of anomalous dimensions has been computed for this class of operators, previous studies have neglected certain terms which were argued to be small. After dropping these terms diagonalizing the dilatation operator reduces to diagonalizing a set of decoupled oscillators…
The aim of the chapter is to introduce in a pedagogical manner the concept of Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz designed to calculate the energy levels of finite volume integrable systems and to review how it is applied in the planar AdS/CFT setting.
The one-dimensional Heisenberg XXX spin chain appears in a special limit of the AdS/CFT integrable system. We review various ways of proving its integrability, and discuss the associated methods of solution. In particular, we outline the coordinate and the algebraic Bethe ansatz, giving reference to literature suitable for learning these techniques. Finally we speculate which of the methods might lift to the exact solution of the AdS/CFT system, and sketch a promising method for constructing the Baxter Q-operator of the XXX chain. It allows to find the spectrum of the model using certain algeb…
We review the status of the integrability and solvability of the geodesics equations of motion on symmetric coset spaces that appear as sigma models of supergravity theories when reduced over respectively the timelike and spacelike direction. Such geodesic curves describe respectively timelike and spacelike brane solutions. We emphasize the applications to black holes.
We investigate the AdS(3)/CFT(2) correspondence for theories with 16 supercharges using the integrability approach. We construct Green-Schwarz actions for Type IIB strings on AdS(3)xS(3)xM(4) where M(4)=T(4) or S(3)xS(1) using the coset approach. These actions are based on a Z(4) automorphism of the super-coset D(2,1;alpha)xD(2,1;alpha)/SO(1,2)xSO(3)xSO(3). The equations of motion admit a representation in terms of a Lax connection, showing that the system is classically integrable. We present the finite gap equations for these actions. When alpha=0,1/2,1 we propose a set of quantum Bethe equa…
Wilson loops are calculated within the AdS/CFT correspondence by finding a classical solution to the string equations of motion in AdS_5 x S^5 and evaluating its action. An important fact is that this sigma-model used to evaluate the Wilson loops is integrable, a feature that has gained relevance through the study of spinning strings carrying large quantum numbers and spin-chains. We apply the same techniques used to solve the equations for spinning strings to find the minimal surfaces describing a wide class of Wilson loops. We focus on different cases with periodic boundary conditions on the…
Worldsheet techniques can be used to argue for the integrability of string theory on AdS_5xS^5/Z_S, which is dual to the strongly coupled Z_S-orbifold of N=4 SYM. We analyze the integrability of these field theories in the perturbative regime and construct the relevant Bethe equations.
We define restricted Schur polynomials built using both fermionic and bosonic fields which transform in the adjoint of the gauge group U(N). We show that these operators diagonalize the free field two point function to all orders in 1/N. As an application of our new operators, we study the action of the one loop dilatation operator in the su(2|3) sector in a large N but non-planar limit. The restricted Schur polynomials we study are dual to giant gravitons. We find that the one loop dilatation operator can be diagonalized using a double coset ansatz. The resulting spectrum of anomalous dimensi…
This review is devoted to the classical integrability of the AdS5xS5 superstring theory. It starts with a reminder of the corresponding action as a coset model. The symmetries of this action are then reviewed. The classical integrability is then considered from the lagrangian and hamiltonian points of view. The second part of this review deals with the gauge fixing of this theory. Finally, some aspects of the pure spinor formulation are also briefly reviewed.
We investigate the type IIA string on AdS(2)xS(2)xT(6) supported by RR-flux which describes the gravitational side of the AdS(2)/CFT(1) correspondence. While the four-dimensional part AdS(2)xS(2) can be realized as a supercoset, the full superstring has both coset and non-coset excitations, the latter giving rise to massless worldsheet modes, a somewhat novel feature in AdS/CFT. The string is nevertheless known to be integrable at the classical level. In this paper we perform several computations checking aspects of both classical and quantum string integrability. At the classical level we com…
Skyrme theory on S^2 (Faddeev coset proposal), is analyzed with a generalization of 0-curvature integrability, based on gauge techniques. New expressions valid for models in the sphere are given. The relation of the minimum energy configurations to gauge vacua is clarified. Consequences of adding a potential term to break the SO(3) symmetry are discussed.
We derive the TBA system of equations from the S-matrix describing integrable massive perturbation of the coset $G_l \times G_m / G_{l+m}$ by the field $(1,1,adj)$ for all the infinite series of the simple Lie algebras $G=A,B,C,D$. In the cases A,C, where the full S-matrices are known, the derivation is exact, while B,D cases dictate some natural assumption about the form of the crossing- -unitarizing prefactor for any two fundam. reps of the algebras. In all the cases the derived systems are transformed to the corresponding functional Y-system and shown to have the correct high temperature (U…
In our previous work, the two-loop integrability of ABJM determinant like operator has been well established. In this paper, we push the integrability to all loop orders. The asymptotic Bethe ansatz equations for ABJM determinant like operator (open string attached on giant graviton) are obtained. In the derivation, the symmetries preserved by the bulk and the boundary played a crucial role. Taking the weak coupling limit and applying appropriate fermionic dualities, we obtained a different set of scalar sector Bethe equations with our previous results. When the "gauge" transformation on Bethe…
We propose a dynamical matrix product ansatz describing the stochastic dynamics of two species of particles with excluded-volume interaction and the quantum mechanics of the associated quantum spin chains respectively. Analyzing consistency of the time-dependent algebra which is obtained from the action of the corresponding Markov generator, we obtain sufficient conditions on the hopping rates for identifing the integrable models. From the dynamical algebra we construct the quadratic algebra of Zamolodchikov type, associativity of which is a Yang Baxter equation. The Bethe ansatz equations for…
We apply the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz to investigate the high energy behaviour of a class of scattering matrices which have recently been proposed to describe the Homogeneous sine-Gordon models related to simply laced Lie algebras. A characteristic feature is that some elements of the suggested S-matrices are not parity invariant and contain resonance shifts which allow for the formation of unstable bound states. From the Lagrangian point of view these models may be viewed as integrable perturbations of WZNW-coset models and in our analysis we recover indeed in the deep ultraviolet regime th…
The critical Boltzmann weights for lattice analogues of the $N=2$ superconformal coset models $\frac{G_1 \times SO(dim(G/H))}{H}$ were given in \cite{nick}. In this paper Bethe Ansatz methods are employed to calculate the spectrum of the transfer matrix obtained from these Boltzmann weights. {}From this the central charge and conformal weights are obtained by calculating finite-size corrections to the free energy per site. The results agree with those obtained from the superconformal model.
Yang-Baxter string sigma-models provide a systematic way to deform coset geometries, such as $AdS_p \times S^p$, while retaining the $σ$-model integrability. It has been shown that the Yang-Baxter deformation in target space is simply an open-closed string map that can be defined for any geometry, not just coset spaces. Given a geometry with an isometry group and a bivector that is assumed to be a linear combination of antisymmetric products of Killing vectors, we show the equations of motion of (generalized) supergravity reduce to the Classical Yang-Baxter Equation associated with the isometr…
D-branes have a world-volume U(1) gauge field A whose field strength F = dA gives rise to a Born-Infeld term in the D-brane action. Supersymmetry and kappa symmetry transformations of A are traditionally inferred by the requirement that the Born-Infeld term is consistent with both supersymmetry and kappa symmetry of the D-brane action. In this paper, we show that integrability of the assigned supersymmetry transformations leads to a extension of the standard supersymmetry algebra that includes a fermionic central charge. We construct a superspace one-form on an enlarged superspace related by a…
We review recent applications of the integrable discrete Hirota dynamics (Y-system) in the context of calculation of the planar AdS/CFT spectrum. We start from the description of solution of Hirota equations by the Backlund method where the requirement of analyticity results in the nested Bethe ansatz equations. Then we discuss applications of the Hirota dynamics for the analysis of the asymptotic limit of long operators in the AdS/CFT Y-system.
We introduce a series of articles reviewing various aspects of integrable models relevant to the AdS/CFT correspondence. Topics covered in these reviews are: classical integrability, Yangian symmetry, factorized scattering, the Bethe ansatz, the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz, and integrable structures in (conformal) quantum field theory. In the present article we highlight how these concepts have found application in AdS/CFT, and provide a brief overview of the material contained in this series.
We compute the planar finite size corrections to the spectrum of the dilatation operator acting on two-impurity states of a certain limit of conformal $\mathcal{N}=2$ quiver gauge field theory which is a $Z_M$-orbifold of $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We match the result to the string dual, IIB superstrings propagating on a pp-wave background with a periodically identified null coordinate. Up to two loops, we show that the computation of operator dimensions, using an effective Hamiltonian technique derived from renormalized perturbation theory and a twisted Bethe ansatz whi…
This article reviews the application of integrability to the spectral problem of strings on AdS_5 x S^5 and its deformations. We begin with a pedagogical introduction to integrable field theories culminating in the description of their finite-volume spectra through the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz. Next, we apply these ideas to the AdS_5 x S^5 string and in later chapters discuss how to account for particular integrable deformations. Through the AdS/CFT correspondence this gives an exact description of anomalous scaling dimensions of single trace operators in planar N=4 supersymmetry Yang-Mills …
The integrability-condition method is regarded as a mathematical tool to describe the symmetry of collective sub-manifold. We here adopt the particle-hole representation. In the conventional time-dependent (TD) self-consistent field (SCF) theory, we take the one-form linearly composed of the TD SCF Hamiltonian and the infinitesimal generator induced by the collective-variable differential of canonical transformation on a group. Standing on the differential geometrical viewpoint, we introduce a Lagrange-like manner familiar to fluid dynamics to describe collective coordinate systems. We constru…
In this paper the detailed CCWZ procedure for introducing fermions on the world sheet of a string propagating in flat space-time is presented. The theory of nonlinear realizations is used to derive the transformation as well as the interactions of fermionic matter fields under arbitrary spinorial representations of the unbroken subgroup. This demonstrates that even for non-supersymmetric spinors, the interactions are still severely restricted by the nonlinearly realized symmetry. We also explain how supersymmetric models provide an example for this construction with Goldstinos as matter fields…
We develop an integrability-based framework to compute structure constants of two sub-determinant operators and a single-trace non-BPS operator in ABJM theory in the planar limit. In this first paper, we study them at weak coupling using a relation to an integrable spin chain. We first develop a nested Bethe ansatz for an alternating SU(4) spin chain that describes single-trace operators made out of scalar fields. We then apply it to the computation of the structure constants and show that they are given by overlaps between a Bethe eigenstate and a matrix product state. We conjecture that the …
In this dissertation, we discuss how our understanding of the large-N spectrum of AdS/CFT has been deepened by integrability-based approaches. We begin with a comprehensive review of the integrability of the gauge theory spin-chain and that of the string sigma model. In the light of the AdS/CFT duality, they should be just two ways of describing the same underlying integrability, and it is believed that the unified integrability can be characterised by a set of Bethe ansatz equations which is valid for all values of the 't Hooft coupling. By studying the asymptotic spectrum of the AdS/CFT in t…
We provide a description of the quantum integrable structure behind the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA)-like equation derived by Nekrasov and Shatashvili (NS) for $\mathcal{N}=2$ 4d Super Yang-Mills (SYM) theories. In this regime of the background, -- we shall show --, the instanton partition function is characterised by the solution of a TQ-equation. Exploiting a symmetry of the contour integrals expressing the partition function, we derive a 'dual' TQ-equation, sharing the same T-polynomial with the former. This fact allows us to evaluate to $1$ the quantum Wronskian of two dual solutions (…
The dilatation generator measures the scaling dimensions of local operators in a conformal field theory. In this thesis we consider the example of maximally supersymmetric gauge theory in four dimensions and develop and extend techniques to derive, investigate and apply the dilatation operator. We construct the dilatation operator by purely algebraic means: Relying on the symmetry algebra and structural properties of Feynman diagrams we are able to bypass involved, higher-loop field theory computations. In this way we obtain the complete one-loop dilatation operator and the planar, three-loop …
We present a simple procedure to construct non-local conserved charges for classical open strings on coset spaces. This is done by including suitable reflection matrices on the classical transfer matrix. The reflection matrices must obey certain conditions for the charges to be conserved and in involution. We then study bosonic open strings on $AdS_5\times S^5$. We consider boundary conditions corresponding to Giant Gravitons on $S^5$, $AdS_4\times S^2$ D5-branes and $AdS_5 \times S^3$ D7-branes. We find that we can construct the conserved charges for the full bosonic string on a Maximal Giant…
We prove the integrability of the two-loop open spin chain Hamiltonian from ABJM determinant like operators given in arXiv:1809.09941. By explicitly constructing R-matrices and K-matrices, we successfully obtain the two-loop Hamiltonian from the double row transfer matrices. This proves the integrability of our two-loop Hamiltonian. Based on the vacuum eigenvalues of the transfer matrices, we make a conjecture on the eigenvalues of the transfer matrices for general excited states. Bethe ansatz equations are simply obtained from the analytic conditions at the superficial poles of the eigenvalue…
We use the notion of the gauge/string duality and discuss the Liouvillian (non) integrability criteria for string sigma models in the context of recently proposed Arutyunov-Bassi-Lacroix (ABL) model [JHEP \textbf{03} (2021), 062]. Our analysis complements those previous results due to numerical analysis as well as Lax pair formulation. We consider a winding string ansatz for the deformed torus $T^{\qty(λ_{1},λ_{2},λ)}_{k}$ which can be interpreted as a system of coupled pendulums. Our analysis reveals the Liouvillian nonintegrablity of the associated sigma model. We also obtain the \emph{gener…
The super Yang-Mills duals of open strings attached to maximal giant gravitons are studied in perturbation theory. It is shown that non-BPS baryonic excitations of the gauge theory can be studied within the paradigm of open quantum spin chains even beyond the leading order in perturbation theory. The open spin chain describing the two loop mixing of non-BPS giant gravitons charged under an su(2) of the so(6) R symmetry group is explicitly constructed. It is also shown that although the corresponding open spin chain is integrable at the one loop order, there is a potential breakdown of integrab…
We present a set of functional equations defining the anomalous dimensions of arbitrary local single trace operators in planar N=4 SYM theory. It takes the form of a Y-system based on the integrability of the dual superstring sigma-model on the AdS_5xS^5 background. This Y-system passes some very important tests: it incorporates the full asymptotic Bethe ansatz at large length of operator L, including the dressing factor, and it confirms all recently found wrapping corrections. The recently proposed AdS_4/CFT_3 duality is also treated in a similar fashion.
In this paper we continue the study, initiated in arXiv:1009.3498 and arXiv:1104.1793, of the classical integrability of Green-Schwarz superstrings in AdS(4) x CP(3) and AdS(2) x S(2) x T(6) superbackgrounds whose spectrum contains non-supercoset worldsheet degrees of freedom corresponding to broken supersymmetries in the bulk. We derive an explicit expression, to all orders in the coset fermions and to second order in the non-coset fermions, which extends the supercoset Lax connection in these backgrounds with terms depending on the non-coset fermions. An important property of the obtained fo…
We review the computation of the anomalous dimension of twist operators in the planar limit of N=4 SYM using the asymptotic Bethe ansatz and demonstrate how this quantity is obtained at weak, strong and intermediate values of the coupling constant. The anomalous dimension of twist operators in the limit of large Lorentz spin played a major role in the construction as well as in many tests of the asymptotic Bethe equations, this aspect of the story is emphasised.
We investigate the open spin chain describing the scalar sector of the Y=0 giant graviton brane at weak coupling. We provide a direct proof of integrability in the SU(2) and SU(3) sectors by constructing the transfer matrices. We determine the eigenvalues of these transfer matrices in terms of roots of the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations (BAEs). Based on these results, we propose BAEs for the full SO(6) sector. We find that, in the weak-coupling limit, the recently-proposed all-loop BAEs essentially agree with those proposed in the present work.
Using the thermodynamical Bethe ansatz method we derive an infinite set of integral non-linear equations for the spectrum of states/operators in AdS/CFT. The Y-system conjectured in arXiv:0901.3753 for the spectrum of all operators in planar N=4 SYM theory follows from these equations. In particular, we present the integral equations for the spectrum of all operators within the sl(2) sector. We prove that all the kernels and free terms entering these TBA equations are real and have nice fusion properties in the relevant mirror kinematics. We find the analogue of DHM formula for the dressing ke…
In AdS5/CFT4 integrability the Bethe ansatz gives the spectrum of long strings, accurate up to exponentially small corrections. This is no longer true in AdS3, as we demonstrate here by studying Luscher F-terms with a massless particle running in the loop. We apply this to the classic test of Hernandez & Lopez, in which the su(2) sector Bethe equations (including one-loop dressing phase) should match the semiclassical string theory result for a circular spinning string. These calculations did not agree in AdS3xS3xT4, and we show that the sum of all massless Luscher F-terms can reproduce the di…
In integrable quantum field theories the large volume spectrum is given by the Bethe Ansatz. The leading corrections, due to virtual particles circulating around the cylinder, are encoded in so-called Luscher corrections. In order to apply these techniques to the AdS/CFT correspondence one has to generalize these corrections to the case of generic dispersion relations and to multiparticle states. We review these various generalizations and the applications of Luscher's corrections to the study of the worldsheet QFT of the superstring in AdS5xS5 and, consequently, to anomalous dimensions of ope…
We consider two-loop anomalous dimensions for fermionic operators in the ABJM model and the ABJ model. We find the appropriate Hamiltonian and show that it is consistent with a previously predicted Bethe ansatz for the ABJM model. The difference between the ABJ and ABJM models is invisible at the two-loop level by cancelation of parity violating diagrams. We then construct a Hamiltonian for the full two-loop OSp(6|4) spin chain by first constructing the Hamiltonian for an SL(2|1) subgroup, and then lifting to OSp(6|4). We show that this Hamiltonian is consistent with the Hamiltonian found for …
We investigate the question of possible integrability of classical string motion in curved p-brane backgrounds. For example, the D3-brane metric interpolates between the flat and the AdS_5 x S^5 regions in which string propagation is integrable. We find that while the point-like string (geodesic) equations are integrable, the equations describing an extended string in the complete D3-brane geometry are not. The same conclusion is reached for similar brane intersection backgrounds interpolating between flat space and AdS_k x S^k. We consider, in particular, the case of the NS 5-brane-fundamenta…
We discuss gluon scattering amplitudes/null-polygonal Wilson loops of N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling based on the gauge/string duality and its underlying integrability. We focus on the amplitudes/Wilson loops corresponding to the minimal surfaces in AdS_3, which are described by the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations of the homogeneous sine-Gordon model. Using conformal perturbation theory and an interesting relation between the g-function (boundary entropy) and the T-function, we derive analytic expansions around the limit where the Wilson loops become regular-polygonal. W…
In the absence of NSNS three-form flux the bosonic string on a symmetric space is described by a symmetric space coset sigma-model. Such models are known to be classically integrable. We show that the integrability extends also to cases with non-zero NSNS flux (respecting the isometries) provided that the flux satisfies a condition of the form H_{abc}H^{cde}~R_{ab}^{de}. We then turn our attention to the type II Green-Schwarz superstring on a symmetric space. We prove that if the space preserves some supersymmetry there exists a truncation of the full superspace to a supercoset space and deriv…
We review recent developments in the study of gluon scattering amplitudes of the four-dimensional maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at strong coupling based on the gauge/string duality and its underlying integrability. The scattering amplitudes are given by the area of minimal surfaces in five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space with a null polygonal boundary. These minimal surfaces are described by integral equations of the form of the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz equations. Generalizing the result regarding the six-point amplitudes, we observe a general connection between the minimal sur…
We review the derivation of the S-matrix for planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and type IIB superstring theory on an AdS5xS5 background. After deriving the S-matrix for the su(2) and su(3) sectors at the one-loop level based on coordinate Bethe ansatz, we show how su(2|2) symmetry leads to the exact asymptotic S-matrix up to an overall scalar function. We then briefly review the spectrum of bound states by relating these states to simple poles of the S-matrix. Finally, we review the derivation of the asymptotic Bethe equations, which can be used to determine the asymptotic multiparti…
We compute structure constants in N=4 SYM at one loop using Integrability. This requires having full control over the two loop eigenvectors of the dilatation operator for operators of arbitrary size. To achieve this, we develop an algebraic description called the Theta-morphism. In this approach we introduce impurities at each spin chain site, act with particular differential operators on the standard algebraic Bethe ansatz vectors and generate in this way higher loop eigenvectors. The final results for the structure constants take a surprisingly simple form. For some quantities we conjecture …
The physics of the attractive one-dimensional Bose gas (Lieb-Liniger model) is investigated with techniques based on the integrability of the system. Combining a knowledge of particle quasi-momenta to exponential precision in the system size with determinant representations of matrix elements of local operators coming from the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz, we obtain rather general analytical results for the zero-temperature dynamical correlation functions of the density and field operators. Our results thus provide quantitative predictions for possible future experiments in atomic gases or optical w…
We write down the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz for string theory on $\mbox{AdS}_3\times\mbox{S}^3\times\mbox{T}^4$ and $\mbox{AdS}_3\times\mbox{S}^3\times\mbox{K3}$ in its orbifold limits. We use it to determine the wave-functions of protected closed strings in these backgrounds and prove that their energies are protected to all orders in $α'$. We further apply the ABA to find the wave functions of protected states of $\mbox{AdS}_3\times\mbox{S}^3\times\mbox{S}^3\times \mbox{S}^1$ and its $\mathbf{Z}_2$ orbifold. Our findings match with protected spectrum calculations from supergravity, $\mbox{Sym}^…
A lattice regularized Lax operator for the nonultralocal modified Korteweg de Vries (mKdV) equation is proposed at the quantum level with the basic operators satisfying a $q$-deformed braided algebra. Finding further the associated quantum $R$ and $Z$-matrices the exact integrability of the model is proved through the braided quantum Yang--Baxter equation, a suitably generalized equation for the nonultralocal models. Using the algebraic Bethe ansatz the eigenvalue problem of the quantum mKdV model is exactly solved and its connection with the spin-$\ha$ XXZ chain is established, facilitating t…
We study analytical properties of the generalized $λ$-deformation, which modifies string theories while preserving integrability, and construct the explicit backgrounds corresponding to AdS_p x S^p, including the Ramond-Ramond fluxes. For an arbitrary coset, we find the general form of the R-matrix underlying the deformation, and prove that the dilaton is not modified by the deformation, while the frames are multiplied by a constant matrix. Our explicit solutions describe families of integrable string theories depending on several continuous parameters.
Building on arXiv:0912.1723, in this paper we investigate the AdS3/CFT2 correspondence using integrability techniques. We present an all-loop Bethe Ansatz (BA) for strings on AdS_3 x S^3 x S^3 x S^1, with symmetry D(2,1;alpha)^2, valid for all values of alpha. This construction relies on a novel, alpha-dependent generalisation of the Zhukovsky map. We investigate the weakly-coupled limit of this BA and of the all-loop BA for strings on AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4. We construct integrable short-range spin-chains and Hamiltonians that correspond to these weakly-coupled BAs. The spin-chains are alternating…

We systematically study the spectrum of open strings attached to half BPS giant gravitons in the N=4 SYM AdS/CFT setup. We find that some null trajectories along the giant graviton are actually null geodesics of AdS_5x S^5, so that we can study the problem in a plane wave limit setup. We also find the description of these states at weak 't Hooft coupling in the dual CFT. We show how the dual description is given by an open spin chain with variable number of sites. We analyze this system in detail and find numerical evidence for integrability. We also discover an interesting instability of long…
The integrability structures of the matrix generalizations of the Ernst equation for Hermitian or complex symmetric $d\times d$-matrix Ernst potentials are elucidated. These equations arise in the string theory as the equations of motion for a truncated bosonic parts of the low-energy effective action respectively for a dilaton and $d\times d$ - matrix of moduli fields or for a string gravity model with a scalar (dilaton) field, U(1) gauge vector field and an antisymmetric 3-form field, all depending on two space-time coordinates only. We construct the corresponding spectral problems based on …
