Inspired by the theory of quantum information, I use two non-Hermitian random matrix models - a weighted sum of circular unitary ensembles and a product of rectangular Ginibre unitary ensembles - as building blocks of three new products of random matrices which are generalizations of the Bures model. I apply the tools of both Hermitian and non-Hermitian free probability to calculate the mean densities of their eigenvalues and singular values in the thermodynamic limit, along with their divergences at zero; the results are supported by Monte Carlo simulations. I pose and test conjectures concerning the relationship between the two densities (exploiting the notion of the N-transform), the shape of the mean domain of the eigenvalues (an extension of the single ring theorem), and the universal behavior of the mean spectral density close to the domain's borderline (using the complementary error function).
On a W*-algebra M, for given two positive linear forms f,g and algebra elements a,b a variational expression for the Bures-distance d_B(f^a,g^b) between the inner derived positive linear forms f^a=f(a* . a) and g^b=g(b* . b) is obtained. Along with the proof of the formula also some earlier result of S.Gudder on non-commutative probability will be slightly extended. Also, the given expression of the Bures-distance nicely relates to some system of seminorms proposed by D.Buchholz and which occured along with the problem of estimating the so-called `weak intertwiners' in algebraic quantum field …
We seek to develop a Bures (minimal monotone/statistical distinguishability) metric-based series of formulas for the moments of probability distributions over the determinants $|ρ|$ and $|ρ^{PT}|$ of $4 \times 4$ density matrices, $ρ$, for generalized (rebit, quater[nionic]bit,\ldots) two-qubit systems, analogous to a series that has been obtained for the Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) metric. In particular, we desire--using moment-inversion procedures--to be able to closely test the previously-developed conjecture (J. Geom. Phys., 53, 74 [2005]) that the Bures separability probability over the (standar…
In the report we analyze the indicator/measure of classicality of quantum states defined as the probability to find a state with a positive Wigner function within a unitary invariant random ensemble. The indicators of classicality of three ensembles associated with the Hilbert-Schmidt, Bures and Bogoliubov-Kubo-Mori metrics on the space of quantum states of 3-level system are computed. Their dependence on a moduli parameter of the Wigner function is studied for all strata of a qutrit state space stratified in accordance with the unitary group action.
We reexamine a recent analysis in which, using the volume of the associated quantum steering ellipsoid (QES) as a measure, we sought to estimate the probability that a two-qubit state is separable. In the estimation process, we, in effect, sought to attach to states random with respect to Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) measure, the corresponding QES volumes. However, a study of the relations between HS and Bures ensembles and their well-supported separability probabilities of $\frac{8}{33}$ and $\frac{25}{341}$, respectively, now lead us to explore as a possible alternative measure, the QES volume divid…
A new quantum divergence induced from the $α-z$ Renyi relative entropy, called the $α-z$ Bures-Wasserstein quantum divergence, has been recently introduced. We investigate in this paper properties of the right mean, which is a unique minimizer of the weighted sum of $α-z$ Bures-Wasserstein quantum divergences to each points. Many interesting operator inequalities of the right mean with the matrix power mean including the Cartan mean are presented. Moreover, we verify the trace inequality with the Wasserstein mean and provide bounds for the Hadamard product of two right means.
We seek to gain insight into the nature of the determinantal moments of generic (9-dimensional) two-rebit and (15-dimensional) two-qubit systems (rho). Such information-as it has proved to be in the Hilbert-Schmidt counterpart--should be useful, employing probability-distribution reconstruction (inverse) procedures, in obtaining improved, or possibly even exact Bures 2 x 2 separability probabilities for such systems. The (regularizing) strategy we first adopt is to plot the ratio of numerically-generated (Ginibre ensemble) estimates of the Bures moments to the corresponding (apparently) exactl…
Ensembles of random density matrices determined by various probability measures are analysed. A simple and efficient algorithm to generate at random density matrices distributed according to the Bures measure is proposed. This procedure may serve as an initial step in performing Bayesian approach to quantum state estimation based on the Bures prior. We study the distribution of purity of random mixed states. The moments of the distribution of purity are determined for quantum states generated with respect to the Bures measure. This calculation serves as an exemplary application of the "deform-…
The Bures metric is a natural choice in measuring the distance of density operators representing states in quantum mechanics. In the past few years a random matrix ensemble and the corresponding joint probability density function of its eigenvalues was identified. Moreover a relation with the Cauchy two-matrix model was discovered but never thoroughly investigated, leaving open in particular the following question: How are the kernels of the Pfaffian point process of the Bures random matrix ensemble related to the ones of the determinantal point process of the Cauchy two-matrix model and moreo…
We consider an ensemble of random density matrices distributed according to the Bures measure. The corresponding joint probability density of eigenvalues is described by the fixed trace Bures-Hall ensemble of random matrices which, in turn, is related to its unrestricted trace counterpart via a Laplace transform. We investigate the spectral statistics of both these ensembles and, in particular, focus on the level density, for which we obtain exact closed-form results involving Pfaffians. In the fixed trace case, the level density expression is used to obtain an exact result for the average Hav…
We employ a quasirandom methodology, recently developed by Martin Roberts, to estimate the separability probabilities, with respect to the Bures (minimal monotone/statistical distinguishability) measure, of generic two-qubit and two-rebit states. This procedure, based on generalized properties of the golden ratio, yielded, in the course of almost seventeen billion iterations (recorded at intervals of five million), two-qubit estimates repeatedly close to nine decimal places to $\frac{25}{341} =\frac{5^2}{11 \cdot 31} \approx 0.073313783$. Howeer, despite the use of over twenty-three billion it…
One of the key issues in quantum information theory related problems concerns with that of distinguishability of quantum states. In this context, Bures distance serves as one of the foremost choices among various distance measures. It also relates to fidelity, which is another quantity of immense importance in quantum information theory. In this work, we derive exact results for the average fidelity and variance of the squared Bures distance between a fixed density matrix and a random density matrix, and also between two independent random density matrices. These results supplement the recentl…
Bures distance holds a special place among various distance measures due to its several distinguished features and finds applications in diverse problems in quantum information theory. It is related to fidelity and, among other things, it serves as a bona fide measure for quantifying the separability of quantum states. In this work, we calculate exact analytical results for the mean root fidelity and mean square Bures distance between a fixed density matrix and a random density matrix, and also between two random density matrices. In the course of derivation, we also obtain spectral density fo…
The Bures metric and the associated Bures-Hall measure is arguably the best choice for studying the spectrum of the quantum mechanical density matrix with no apriori knowledge of the system. We investigate the probability of a gap in the spectrum of this model, either at the bottom $ [0,s) $ or at the top $ (s,1] $, utilising the connection of this Pfaffian point-process with the allied problem in the determinantal point-process of the two-dimensional Cauchy-Laguerre bi-orthogonal polynomial system, now deformed with two variables $s,t$. To this end we develop new general results about Cauchy …
We first seek the rebit-retrit counterpart to the (formally proven by Lovas and Andai) two-rebit Hilbert-Schmidt separability probability of $\frac{29}{64} =\frac{29}{2^6} \approx 0.453125$ and the qubit-qutrit analogue of the (strongly supported) value of $\frac{8}{33} = \frac{2^3}{3 \cdot 11} \approx 0.242424$. We advance the possibilities of a rebit-retrit value of $\frac{860}{6561} =\frac{2^2 \cdot 5 \cdot 43}{3^8} \approx 0.131078$ and a qubit-qutrit one of $\frac{27}{1000} = (\frac{3}{10})^3 =\frac{3^3}{2^3 \cdot 5^3} = 0.027$. These four values for $2 \times m$ systems ($m=2,3$) suggest…
We investigate the level density for several ensembles of positive random matrices of a Wishart--like structure, $W=XX^{\dagger}$, where $X$ stands for a nonhermitian random matrix. In particular, making use of the Cauchy transform, we study free multiplicative powers of the Marchenko-Pastur (MP) distribution, ${\rm MP}^{\boxtimes s}$, which for an integer $s$ yield Fuss-Catalan distributions corresponding to a product of $s$ independent square random matrices, $X=X_1\cdots X_s$. New formulae for the level densities are derived for $s=3$ and $s=1/3$. Moreover, the level density corresponding t…
We provide a proof to a recent conjecture by Forrester [2014 J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 47, 065202] regarding the algebraic and arithmetic structure of Meijer G-functions which appear in the expression for probability of all eigenvalues real for product of two real Gaussian matrices. In the process we come across several interesting identities involving Meijer G-functions.
The probability that there are $k$ real eigenvalues for an $n$ dimensional real random matrix is known. Here we study this for the case of products of independent random matrices. Relating the problem of the probability that the product of two real 2 dimensional random matrices has real eigenvalues to an issue of optimal quantum entanglement, this is fully analytically solved. It is shown that in $π/4$ fraction of such products the eigenvalues are real. Being greater than the corresponding known probability ($1/\sqrt{2}$) for a single matrix, it is shown numerically that the probability that {…
We consider the product of two independent randomly rotated projectors. The square of its radial part turns out to be distributed as a Jacobi ensemble. We study its global and local properties in the large dimension scaling relevant to free probability theory. We establish asymptotics for one point and two point correlation functions, as well as properties of largest and smallest eigenvalues.
The probability that all eigenvalues of a product of $m$ independent $N \times N$ sub-blocks of a Haar distributed random real orthogonal matrix of size $(L_i+N) \times (L_i+N)$, $(i=1,\dots,m)$ are real is calculated as a multi-dimensional integral, and as a determinant. Both involve Meijer G-functions. Evaluation formulae of the latter, based on a recursive scheme, allow it to be proved that for any $m$ and with each $L_i$ even the probability is a rational number. The formulae furthermore provide for explicit computation in small order cases.
For a family of unital free *-algebras with a family of states on them, we construct a sequence of noncommutative probability spaces, which are tensor product algebras with tensor product states and which approximate the free product of states in the sense of convergence of mixed moments to those of free random variables. The constructed sequence of noncommutative probability spaces is called the hierarchy of freeness with the corresponding states called m-free products of states. The first-order approximation corresponding to m=1 gives the Boolean product of states. Thus the product states fo…
The singular values of a product of $M$ independent Ginibre matrices of size $N\times N$ form a determinantal point process. Near the soft edge, as both $M$ and $N$ go to infinity in such a way that $M/N\to α$, $α>0$, a scaling limit emerges. We consider a gap probability for the corresponding limiting determinantal process, namely, the probability that there are no particles in the interval $(a,+\infty)$. We derive a Tracy-Widom-like formula in terms of the unique solution of a certain matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem of size $2 \times 2$. The right-tail asymptotics for this solution is obtaine…
In this article we consider products of real random matrices with fixed size. Let $A_1,A_2, \dots $ be i.i.d $k \times k$ real matrices, whose entries are independent and identically distributed from probability measure $μ$. Let $X_n = A_1A_2\dots A_n$. Then it is conjectured that $$\mathbb{P}(X_n \text{ has all real eigenvalues}) \rightarrow 1 \text{ as } n \rightarrow \infty.$$ We show that the conjecture is true when $μ$ has an atom.
We study the properties of the eigenvalues of real random matrices and their products. It is known that when the matrix elements are Gaussian-distributed independent random variables, the fraction of real eigenvalues tends to unity as the number of matrices in the product increases. Here we present numerical evidence that this phenomenon is robust with respect to the probability distribution of matrix elements, and is therefore a general property that merits detailed investigation. Since the elements of the product matrix are no longer distributed as those of the single matrix nor they remain …
Consider random matrices $A$, of dimension $m\times (m+n)$, drawn from an ensemble with probability density $f(\rmtr AA^\dagger)$, with $f(x)$ a given appropriate function. Break $A = (B,X)$ into an $m\times m$ block $B$ and the complementary $m\times n$ block $X$, and define the random matrix $Z=B^{-1}X$. We calculate the probability density function $P(Z)$ of the random matrix $Z$ and find that it is a universal function, independent of $f(x)$. The universal probability distribution $P(Z)$ is a spherically symmetric matrix-variate $t$-distribution. Universality of $P(Z)$ is, essentially, a c…
