Four new variants of the Computational Order of Convergence (COC) of a one-point iterative method with memory for solving nonlinear equations are presented. Furthermore, the way to approximate the new variants to the local order of convergence is analyzed. Three of the new definitions given here do not involve the unknown root. Numerical experiments using adaptive arithmetic with multiple precision and a stopping criteria are implemented without using any known root.

We propose a new normalized Sobolev gradient flow for the Gross-Pitaevskii eigenvalue problem based on an energy inner product that depends on time through the density of the flow itself. The gradient flow is well-defined and converges to an eigenfunction. For ground states we can quantify the convergence speed as exponentially fast where the rate depends on spectral gaps of a linearized operator. The forward Euler time discretization of the flow yields a numerical method which generalizes the inverse iteration for the nonlinear eigenvalue problem. For sufficiently small time steps, the method…
We study the convergences of several FFT-based schemes that are widely applied in computational homogenization for deriving effective coefficients, and the term "convergence" here means the limiting behaviors as spatial resolutions going to infinity. Those schemes include Moulinec-Suquent's scheme [Comput Method Appl M, 157 (1998), pp. 69-94], Willot's scheme [Comptes Rendus Mécanique, 343 (2015), pp. 232-245], and the FEM scheme [Int J Numer Meth Eng, 109 (2017), pp. 1461-1489]. Under some reasonable assumptions, we prove that the effective coefficients obtained by those schemes are all conve…
Higher-order multi-scale computational method and its convergence analysis for hygro-thermo-mechanical coupling problems of quasi-periodic composite structures
In the present paper, we prove convergence rates for the Local Discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) approximation, proposed in Part I of the paper, for systems of $p$-Navier-Stokes type and $p$-Stokes type with $p\in (2,\infty)$. The convergence rates are optimal for linear ansatz functions. The results are supported by numerical experiments.
In this paper, we investigate a Local Discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) approximation for systems with balanced Orlicz-structure. We propose a new numerical flux, which yields optimal convergence rates for linear ansatz functions. In particular, our approach yields a unified treatment for problems with $(p,δ)$-structure for arbitrary $p \in (1,\infty)$ and $δ\ge 0$.
The motive of this paper is to discuss the local convergence of a two-step Newton type method of convergence rate three for solving nonlinear equations in Banach spaces. It is assumed that the first order derivative of nonlinear operator satisfies the generalized Lipschitz i.e. $L$-average condition. Also, some results on convergence of the same method in Banach spaces are established under the assumption that the derivative of the operators satisfies the radius or center Lipschitz condition with a weak $L$-average particularly it is assumed that $L$ is positive integrable function but not nec…
In this article, the local convergence analysis of the multi-step seventh order method is presented for solving nonlinear equations. The point worth noting in our paper is that our analysis requires a weak hypothesis where the Fréchet derivative of the nonlinear operator satisfies the $ψ$-continuity condition and extends the applicability of the computation when both Lipschitz and Hölder conditions fail. The convergence in this study is shown under the hypotheses on the first order derivative without involving derivatives of the higher-order. To find a subset of the original convergence domain…
In the present paper, we prove convergence rates for the pressure of the Local Discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) approximation, proposed in Part I of the paper, of systems of $p$-Navier-Stokes type and $p$-Stokes type with $p\in (2,\infty)$. The results are supported by numerical experiments.

In the present paper, we propose a Local Discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) approximation for fully non-homogeneous systems of $p$-Navier-Stokes type. On the basis of the primal formulation, we prove well-posedness, stability (a priori estimates), and weak convergence of the method. To this end, we propose a new DG discretization of the convective term and develop an abstract non-conforming theory of pseudo-monotonicity, which is applied to our problem. We also use our approach to treat the $p$-Stokes problem.
The local convergence of alternating optimization methods with overrelaxation for low-rank matrix and tensor problems is established. The analysis is based on the linearization of the method which takes the form of an SOR iteration for a positive semidefinite Hessian and can be studied in the corresponding quotient geometry of equivalent low-rank representations. In the matrix case, the optimal relaxation parameter for accelerating the local convergence can be determined from the convergence rate of the standard method. This result relies on a version of Young's SOR theorem for positive semide…
Adaptive Moment Estimation (ADAM) is a very popular training algorithm for deep neural networks and belongs to the family of adaptive gradient descent optimizers. However to the best of the authors knowledge no complete convergence analysis exists for ADAM. The contribution of this paper is a method for the local convergence analysis in batch mode for a deterministic fixed training set, which gives necessary conditions for the hyperparameters of the ADAM algorithm. Due to the local nature of the arguments the objective function can be non-convex but must be at least twice continuously differen…

The weak rate of convergence for the Euler-Maruyama approximation of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations involving the local times of the unknown process
Loss functions with non-isolated minima have emerged in several machine learning problems, creating a gap between theory and practice. In this paper, we formulate a new type of local convexity condition that is suitable to describe the behavior of loss functions near non-isolated minima. We show that such condition is general enough to encompass many existing conditions. In addition we study the local convergence of the SGD under this mild condition by adopting the notion of stochastic stability. The corresponding concentration inequalities from the convergence analysis help to interpret the e…
This paper is concerned with an approximation scheme for rate-independent systems governed by a non-smooth dissipation and a possibly non-convex energy functional. The scheme is based on the local minimization scheme introduced in [EM06], but relies on local stationarity of the underlying minimization problem. Under the assumption of Mosco-convergence for the dissipation functional, we show that accumulation points exist and are so-called parametrized solutions of the rate-independent system. In particular, this guarantees the existence of parametrized solutions for a rather general setting. A…
