Let $G$ be a graph of order $n,$ and let $q_{1}(G) \geq ...\geq q_{n}(G) $ be the eigenvalues of the $Q$-matrix of $G$, also known as the signless Laplacian of $G.$ In this paper we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the equality $q_{k}(G) =n-2,$ where $1<k\leq n.$ In particular, this result solves an open problem raised by Wang, Belardo, Huang and Borovicanin.
We also show that [ q_{2}(G) \geqδ(G)] and determine that equality holds if and only if $G$ is one of the following graphs: a star, a complete regular multipartite graph, the graph $K_{1,3,3},$ or a complete multipartite graph of the type $K_{1,...,1,2,...,2}$.
Let $G$ be a simple graph. The signless Laplacian spread of $G$ is defined as the maximum distance of pairs of its signless Laplacian eigenvalues. This paper establishes some new bounds, both lower and upper, for the signless Laplacian spread. Several of these bounds depend on invariant parameters of the graph. We also use a minmax principle to find several lower bounds for this spectral invariant.
Let $G$ be a simple graph. In 1986, Herbert Wilf asked what kind of graphs have an eigenvector with entries formed only by $\pm 1$? In this paper, we answer this question for the adjacency, Laplacian and signless Laplacian matrix of a graph. Besides, we generalize the concept of an exact graph to the adjacency and signless Laplacian matrices. Infinity families of exact graphs for all those matrices are presented.
The spectral theory of the normalized Laplacian for chemical hypergraphs is further investigated. The signless normalized Laplacian is introduced and it is shown that its spectrum for classical hypergraphs coincides with the spectrum of the normalized Laplacian for bipartite chemical hypergraphs. Furthermore, the spectra of special families of hypergraphs are established.
We introduce the signless 1-Laplacians and the dual Cheeger constants on simplicial complexes. The connection of its spectrum to the combinatorial properties like independence number, chromatic number and dual Cheeger constant is investigated. Our estimates can be comparable to Hoffman's bounds in virtue of Laplacian on simplicial complexes. An interesting inequality relating multiplicity of the largest eigenvalue, independence number and chromatic number are provided, which could be regarded as a variant version of Lovasz sandwich theorem. Also, the behavior of the operator under the topologi…
In this paper, we study the entries of the principal eigenvector of the signless Laplacian matrix of a hypergraph. More precisely, we obtain bounds for this entries. These bounds are computed trough other important parameters, such as spectral radius, maximum and minimum degree. We also introduce and study a new parameter related to edges of the hypergraph. This parameter is a spectral measure of a structural characteristic that can be thought of as an edge-variant of regularity.
We propose a simple and natural definition for the Laplacian and the signless Laplacian tensors of a uniform hypergraph. We study their H$^+$-eigenvalues, i.e., H-eigenvalues with nonnegative H-eigenvectors, and H$^{++}$-eigenvalues, i.e., H-eigenvalues with positive H-eigenvectors. We show that each of the Laplacian tensor, the signless Laplacian tensor and the adjacency tensor has at most one H$^{++}$-eigenvalue, but has several other H$^+$-eigenvalues. We identify their largest and smallest H$^+$-eigenvalues, and establish some maximum and minimum properties of these H$^+$-eigenvalues. We t…
Let G be a simple graph on $n$ vertices and $e(G)$ edges. Consider $Q(G) = D + A$ as the signless Laplacian of $G$, where $A$ is the adjacency matrix and $D$ is the diagonal matrix of the vertices degree of $G$. Let $q_1(G)$ and $q_2(G)$ be the first and the second largest eigenvalues of $Q(G),$ respectively, and denote by $S_{n}^{+}$ the star graph plus one edge. In this paper, we prove that inequality $q_1(G)+ q_2(G) <= e(G)+3$ is tighter for the graph $S_{n}^{+}$ among all firefly graphs and also tighter to $S_{n}^{+}$ than to the graphs $K_{k} \vee \overline{K_{n-k}}$ recently presented by…
In this paper, we show that the largest Laplacian H-eigenvalue of a $k$-uniform nontrivial hypergraph is strictly larger than the maximum degree when $k$ is even. A tight lower bound for this eigenvalue is given. For a connected even-uniform hypergraph, this lower bound is achieved if and only if it is a hyperstar. However, when $k$ is odd, it happens that the largest Laplacian H-eigenvalue is equal to the maximum degree, which is a tight lower bound. On the other hand, tight upper and lower bounds for the largest signless Laplacian H-eigenvalue of a $k$-uniform connected hypergraph are given.…
In this paper, we show that the eigenvectors of the zero Laplacian and signless Lapacian eigenvalues of a $k$-uniform hypergraph are closely related to some configured components of that hypergraph. We show that the components of an eigenvector of the zero Laplacian or signless Lapacian eigenvalue have the same modulus. Moreover, under a {\em canonical} regularization, the phases of the components of these eigenvectors only can take some uniformly distributed values in $\{\{exp}(\frac{2jπ}{k})\;|\;j\in [k]\}$. These eigenvectors are divided into H-eigenvectors and N-eigenvectors. Eigenvectors …
Let $G$ be a graph of order $n \geq 3$ with sequence degree given as $d_{1}(G) \geq ... \geq d_{n}(G)$ and let $μ_1(G),..., μ_n(G)$ and $q_1(G), ..., q_{n}(G)$ be the Laplacian and signless Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ arranged in non increasing order, respectively. Here, we consider the Grone's inequality [R. Grone, Eigenvalues and degree sequences of graphs, Lin. Multilin. Alg. 39 (1995) 133--136] $$ \sum_{i=1}^{k} μ_{i}(G) \geq \sum_{i=1}^{k} d_{i}(G)+1$$ and prove that for $k=2$, the equality holds if and only if $G$ is the star graph $S_{n}.$ The signless Laplacian version of Grone's ineq…
Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices and $λ_1,λ_2,\ldots,λ_n$ its eigenvalues. The Estrada index of $G$ is defined as $EE(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n e^{λ_i}.$ In this work, using a different demonstration technique, new lower bounds are obtained for the Estrada index, that depends on the number of vertices, the number of edges and the energy of the graph is given. Moreover, another lower bound for the Estrada index is obtained of an arbitrary non-negative Hermitian matrix are established.
In this paper, we characterize all graphs with eigenvectors of the signless Laplacian and adjacency matrices with components equal to $\{- 1, 0, 1\}.$ We extend the graph parameter max $k$-cut to square matrices and prove a general sharp upper bound, which implies upper bounds on the max $k$-cut of a graph using the smallest signless Laplacian eigenvalue, the smallest adjacency eigenvalue, and the largest Laplacian eigenvalue of the graph. In addition, we construct infinite families of extremal graphs for the obtained upper bounds.
In this paper, we study energies associated with hypergraphs. More precisely, we obtain results for the incidence and the singless Laplacian energies of uniform hypergraphs. In particular, we obtain bounds for the incidence energy as functions of well known parameters, such as maximum degree, Zagreb index and spectral radius. We also relate the incidence and signless Laplacian energies of a hypergraph with the adjacency energies of its subdivision graph and line multigraph, respectively. In addition, we compute the signless Laplacian energy for the class of the power hypergraphs.
In this paper we explore some results concerning the spread of the line and the total graph of a given graph. In particular, it is proved that for an $(n,m)$ connected graph $G$ with $m > n \geq 4$ the spread of $G$ is less than or equal to the spread of its line graph, where the equality holds if and only if $G$ is regular bipartite. A sufficient condition for the spread of the graph not be greater than the signless Laplacian spread for a class of non bipartite and non regular graphs is proved. Additionally, we derive an upper bound for the spread of the line graph of graphs on $n$ vertices h…
The work in this thesis concerns the investigation of eigenvalues of the Laplacian matrix, normalized Laplacian matrix, signless Laplacian matrix and distance signless Laplacian matrix of graphs. In Chapter 1, we present a brief introduction of spectral graph theory with some definitions. Chapter $2$ deals with the sum of $ k $ largest Laplacian eigenvalues $ S_{k}(G) $ of graph $ G $ and Brouwer's conjecture. We obtain the upper bounds for $ S_{k}(G) $ for some classes of graphs and use them to verify Brouwer's conjecture for these classes of graphs. Also, we prove Brouwer's conjecture for mo…
Product graphs have been gainfully used in literature to generate mathematical models of complex networks which inherit properties of real networks. Realizing the duplication phenomena imbibed in the definition of corona product of two graphs, we define Corona graphs. Given a small simple connected graph which we call seed graph, Corona graphs are defined by taking corona product of a seed graph iteratively. We show that the cumulative degree distribution of Corona graphs decay exponentially when the seed graph is regular and cumulative betweenness distribution follows power law when seed grap…
Let $G$ be graph on $n$ vertices and $G^{(t)}$ its blow-up graph of order $t.$ In this paper, we determine all eigenvalues of the Laplacian and the signless Laplacian matrix of $G^{(t)}$ and its complement $\bar{G^{(t)}}.$
