We study the Regge and hard scattering limits of the one-loop amplitude for massless open string states in the type I theory. For hard scattering we find the exact coefficient multiplying the known exponential falloff in terms of the scattering angle, without relying on a saddle point approximation for the integration over the cross ratio. This bypasses the issues of estimating the contributions from flat directions, as well as those that arise from fluctuations of the gaussian integration about a saddle point. This result allows for a straightforward computation of the small- angle behavior of the hard scattering regime and we find complete agreement with the Regge limit at high momentum transfer, as expected.
We discover new hard string scattering amplitudes (HSSA) with polarizations orthogonal to the scattering plane in the NS sector of 10D open superstring theory. The corresponding HSSA in the bosonic string theory are of subleading order in energy. In addition, all HSSA are found to be proportional to each other and the ratios among these HSSA are calculated to justify Gross conjecture in 1988 on high energy symmetry of string theory. Moreover, together with these new HSSA, the total number of HSSA calculated in the first massive level of NS sector are found to agree with those of hard polarized…
In this PhD thesis we study holomorphic and non-holomorphic elliptic analogues of multiple zeta values, namely elliptic multiple zeta values and modular graph functions. Both classes of functions have been discovered very recently, and are involved in the computation of genus one superstring amplitudes. In particular, we obtain new results on the asymptotic expansion of these functions that allow us to perform explicit computations and point out analogies between genus zero and genus one amplitudes.
The interplay of unitarity and analyticity has long been known to impose strong constraints on scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory and string theory. This has been highlighted in recent times in a number of papers and lecture notes. Here we examine such conditions in the context of superstring tree-level scattering amplitudes, leading to positivity constraints on determinants of Hankel matrices involving polynomials of multiple zeta values. These generalise certain constraints on polynomials of single zeta values in the mathematics literature.
In the NS-NS sector of superstring field theory, there potentially exist three nilpotent generators of gauge transformations and two constraint equations: It makes the gauge algebra of type II theory somewhat complicated. In this paper, we show that every NS-NS actions have their WZW-like forms, and that a triplet of mutually commutative $L_{\infty }$ products completely determines the gauge structure of NS-NS superstring field theory via its WZW-like structure. We give detailed analysis about it and present its characteristic properties by focusing on two NS-NS actions proposed by arXiv:1512.…
The string corrections of tree-level open-string amplitudes can be described by Selberg integrals satisfying a Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov (KZ) equation. This allows for a recursion of the $α'$-expansion of tree-level string corrections in the number of external states using the Drinfeld associator. While the feasibility of this recursion is well-known, we provide a mathematical description in terms of twisted de Rham theory and intersection numbers of twisted forms. In particular, this leads to purely combinatorial expressions for the matrix representation of the Lie algebra generators appearing i…
We consider the action of the $q$-deformed Poincaré superalgebra on the massless non-relativistic R-matrix in ordinary (undeformed) integrable $AdS_2 \times S^2 \times T^6$ type IIB superstring theory. The boost generator acts non-trivially on the R-matrix, confirming the existence of a non-relativistic rapidity $γ$ with respect to which the R-matrix must be of difference form. We conjecture that from a massless AdS/CFT integrable relativistic R-matrix one can obtain the parental massless non-relativistic R-matrix simply by replacing the relativistic rapidity with $γ$. We check our conjecture …
We reconsider the two-point string scattering amplitudes of massless Neveu-Schwarz--Neveu-Schwarz states of Type IIB orientifold superstring theory on the disk and projective plane in ten dimensions and analyse its $α'$ expansion. We also discuss the unoriented Type IIB theory on $T^6/\mathbb{Z}_2\times\mathbb{Z}_2$ where two-point string scattering amplitudes of the complex Kähler moduli and complex structures of the untwisted sector are computed on the disk and projective plane. New results are obtained together with known ones. Finally, we compare string scattering amplitudes results at $α'…
We revisited the formalism of 11D polarized scattering equation by Geyer and Mason from the perspective of spinor frame approach and spinor moving frame formulation of the 11D ambitwistor superstring action. In particular, we rigorously obtain the equation for the spinor function on Riemann sphere from the supertwistor form of the ambitwistor superstring action, write its general solution and use it to derive the polarized scattering equation. We show that the expression used by Geyer and Mason to motivate their ansatz for the solution of polarized scattering equation can be obtained from our …
In these lecture notes presented at the 2015 Villa de Leyva Summer School, we give an introduction to superstring theory. We begin by studying the particle and superparticle in order to get a better understanding on the superstring side. Afterwards, we review the pure spinor formalism and end by computing the scattering amplitude for three gravitons at tree-level.
