In this Letter, we investigate the strain-induced band-gap modulation of both armchair and zigzag graphane nanoribbons based on the first-principles calculations. Within the elastic range, the band gap changes linearly with the uniaxial strain, where the band-gap of graphane nanoribbonsis more sensitive to compressive than tensile deformation. The band-gap deformation mainly originates from the shift of valence band edge of graphane nanoribbons under stain. Our results imply the great potential of graphane nanoribbons in the pressure sensor and optical electronics applications.
Carbon nanoscrolls (CNSs) are nanomaterials with geometry resembling graphene layers rolled up into a spiral (papyrus-like) form. Effects of hydrogenation and temperature on the self-scrolling process of two nanoribbons interacting with a carbon nanotube (CNT) have been studied by molecular dynamics simulations for three configurations: (1) graphene/graphene/CNT; (2) graphene/graphane/CNT, and (3) graphane/graphane/CNT. Graphane refers to a fully hydrogenated graphene nanoribbon. Nanoscroll formation is observed for configurations (1) and (2) for temperatures 300-1000 K, while nanoribbons wrap…
Elastic and plastic deformation of graphene, silicene, and boron nitride honeycomb nanoribbons under uniaxial tension: A first-principles density-functional theory study
Iijima,Phys. Rev. Lett. 102,205501(2009)],从石墨烯衍生碳链。此外,从BN和Si纳米带的原子链的类似的形成进行了预测。

In this work, the strain modulation of electronic structure and magnetic interaction in monolayer nanoribbons of B$_2$S, a recently realized monolayer system, is investigated. In the first part of our study, we focus on how the electronic structure of monolayer nanoribbons of B$_2$S is modified under uniaxial strains, then employing a tight-binding framework together with the conventional theory of elasticity, we discuss how strain-induced local deformations can be used as a means to affect Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction in zigzag nanoribbons of B$_2$S. We show that breaking …
Engineering the work function of armchair graphene nanoribbons using strain and surface functional species: a first principles study
First principles density-functional theory calculations were performed to study the effects of strain, edge passivation, and surface functional species on the structural and electronic properties of armchair graphene nanoribbons (AGNRs) with a particular focus on the work function. The work function was found to increase with uniaxial tensile strain while decreasing with compression. The variation of the work function under strain is primarily due to the shift of the Fermi energy with strain. In addition, the relationship between the work function variation and the core level shift with strain…
