A measurement of the exclusive two-photon production of muon pairs in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)= 7 TeV, pp to p mu^+ mu^- p, is reported using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 40 inverse picobarns. For muon pairs with invariant mass greater than 11.5 GeV, transverse momentum pT(mu) > 4 GeV and pseudorapidity |eta(mu)| < 2.1, a fit to the dimuon pt(mu^+ mu^-) distribution results in a measured cross section of sigma(pp to p mu^+ mu^- p) = 3.38 [+0.58 -0.55] (stat.) +/- 0.16 (syst.) +/- 0.14 (lumi.) pb, consistent with the theoretical prediction evaluated with the event generator Lpair. The ratio to the predicted cross section is 0.83 [+0.14-0.13] (stat.) +/- 0.04 (syst.) +/- 0.03 (lumi.). The characteristic distributions of the muon pairs produced via photon-photon fusion, such as the muon acoplanarity, the muon pair invariant mass and transverse momentum agree with those from the theory.
We report new results from CDF on single-diffractive dijet and W/Z production, and on exclusive dijet, diphoton, and dilepton production in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured exclusive dijet and diphoton cross sections provide a test of theoretical predictions for exclusive Higgs production at the LHC.
Results from studies on exclusive production of electron-position pair, di-photon, and di-jet production at CDF in proton-antiproton collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron are presented. The first observation and cross section measurements of exclusive e+e- and di-jet production in hadron-hadron collisions are emphasized.
In CDF we have observed several exclusive processes: 2-photon --> e+e- and --> mu+mu-, photon+pomeron --> J/psi and psi(2S), and pomeron+pomeron --> chi_c. The cross sections agree with QED, HERA photoproduction data, and theoretical estimates of gg --> chi_c with another gluon exchanged to screen the color. This observation of exclusive chi_c, together with earlier observations of exclusive dijets and exclusive 2-photon candidates, support some theoretical predictions for p+p --> p+H+p at the LHC. Exclusive dileptons offer the best means of precisely calibrating forward proton spectrometers.
A new heavy gauge boson, W', decaying to a muon and a neutrino, is searched for in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass of 7 TeV. The data, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns. No significant excess of events above the standard model expectation is found in the transverse mass distribution of the muon-neutrino system. Masses below 1.40 TeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level for a sequential standard-model-like W'. The W' mass lower limit increases to 1.58 TeV when the present analysis is combined with the CMS result for …
This Letter describes a measurement of the muon cross section originating from b quark decay in the forward rapidity range 2.4 < y(mu) < 3.2 in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The data used in this analysis were collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find that NLO QCD calculations underestimate b quark production by a factor of four in the forward rapidity region. A cross section measurement using muon+jet data has been included in this version of the paper.
We present a measurement of the muon charge asymmetry from the decay of the $W$ boson via W to mu nu using 7.3 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. The muon charge asymmetry is presented in two kinematic regions in muon transverse momentum and event missing transverse energy: (p^μ_{T} > 25 GeV, \met > 25 GeV) and (p^μ_{T} > 35 GeV, \met > 35 GeV). The measured asymmetries are compared with theory predictions made using three parton distribution function sets. The predictions do not describe the data well for p^…
The ATLAS experiment identifies and reconstructs muons with two high precision tracking systems, the Inner Detector and the Muon Spectrometer, which provide independent measurements of the muon momentum. This paper summarizes the performance of the combined muon reconstruction in terms of reconstruction efficiency, momentum scale and resolution. Data-driven techniques are used to derive corrections to be applied to the simulation in order to reproduce the reconstruction efficiency, momentum scale and resolution observed in experimental data, and to assess systematic uncertainties on these quan…
A search for exclusive or semi-exclusive photon pair production, pp to p(*) + photon pair + p(*) (where p(*) stands for a diffractively-dissociated proton), and the observation of exclusive and semi-exclusive electron pair production, pp to p(*) + ee + p(*), in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, are presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC at low instantaneous luminosities. Candidate photon pair or electron pair events are selected by requiring the presence of two phot…
We present evidence for diffractive exclusive dijet production with an invariant dijet mass greater than 100 GeV in data collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A discriminant based on calorimeter information is used to measure a significant number of events with little energy (typically less than 10 GeV) outside the dijet system, consistent with the diffractive exclusive dijet production topology. The probability for these events to be explained by other dijet production processes is $2 \times 10^{-5}$, corresponding to a 4.1 standard deviation significance.
We present one additional study of multi-muon events produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider and recorded by the CDF II detector. We use a data set acquired with a dedicated dimuon trigger and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.9 fb$^{-1}$. We investigate the distribution of the azimuthal angle between the two trigger muons in events containing at least four additional muon candidates to test the compatibility of these events with originating from known QCD processes. We find that this distribution is markedly different from what is expected from such QCD processes and this obse…
We present the results of a search for the production of an excited state of the muon, mu*, in proton antiproton collisions at sqrt s = 1.96 TeV. The data have been collected with the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of approximately 380 pb^-1. We search for mu* in the process p pbar -> mu* mu, with the mu* subsequently decaying to a muon plus photon. No excess above the standard model expectation is observed in data. Interpreting our data in the context of a model that describes mu* production by four-fermion contact interactions and m…
We present measurements of the semi-inclusive cross-sections for muon neutrino and muon antineutrino-nucleon deep inelastic scattering interactions with two oppositely charged muons in the final state. These events dominantly arise from production of a charm quark during the scattering process. The measurement was obtained from the analysis of 5102 muon neutrino-induced and 1458 muon antineutrino-induced events collected with the NuTeV detector exposed to a sign-selected beam at the Fermilab Tevatron. We also extract a cross-section measurement from a re-analysis of 5030 muon neutrino-induced …
We present the first observation and cross section measurement of exclusive dijet production in pbar-p interactions, pbar + p --> pbar + dijet + p. Using a data sample of 310 pb-1 collected by the Run II Collider Detector at Fermilab at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV, exclusive cross sections for events with two jets of transverse energy ET >= 10 GeV have been measured as a function of minimum ET(jet). The exclusive signal is extracted from fits to data distributions based on Monte Carlo simulations of expected dijet signal and background shapes. The simulated background distribution shapes are checked in a…
The Collider Detector at Fermilab, CDF, observed for the first time in hadron-hadron collisions photon-photon to e+e- and mu+mu-, photon-pomeron to J/psi and psi(2S), and pomeron-pomeron to photon+photon and to chi_c. Exclusive pi+pi- production by double pomeron exchange was also measured at p+pbar CM energies 900 GeV and 1960 GeV, showing f0 and f2 resonance structures.
We present a search for exclusive Z boson production in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV, using the CDF II detector at Fermilab. We observe no exclusive Z->ll candidates and place the first upper limit on the exclusive Z cross section in hadron collisions, sigma(exclu) < 0.96 pb at 95% confidence level. In addition, we observe eight candidate exclusive dilepton events from the quantum electrodynamic process ppbar->gammagamma->p+ll+pbar, and measure the cross section for M(ll) > 40 GeV/c2 and |eta(l)| < 4 to be sigma = 0.24^{+0.13}_{-0.10} pb, which is the first measurement fo…
A new search signature for excited leptons is explored. Excited muons are sought in the channel $pp \to μμ^* \to μμ\textrm{ jet jet}$, assuming both the production and decay occur via a contact interaction. The analysis is based on 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV taken with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No evidence of excited muons is found, and limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the cross section times branching ratio as a function of the excited-muon mass $m_{μ^*}$. For $m_{μ^*}$ between 1.3 TeV and 3.0 TeV,…
Recent measurements of the inclusive top pair production at the Tevatron and LHC collider in the electron/muon final states are discussed. Measurements at the Tevatron use up to 9.7 /fb of data, and at the LHC up to 4.9 /fb of data at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV and up to 20.3 /fb of data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV. For the experiments at both colliders these corresponds to the full data sets at the given center-of-mass energies. Overall results are in agreement between the experiments at the Tevatron and between the experiments at the LHC. All measurements are in agreement with recent theory calculations at NN…
A measurement of the inclusive cross section for the process pp to b b-bar X to muon muon X' at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is presented, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 27.9 inverse picobarns collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC. By selecting pairs of muons each with pseudorapidity abs(eta)<2.1, the value of the cross section for pp to b b-bar X to muon muon X' is found to be 26.4 +/- 0.1 (stat.) +/- 2.4 (syst.) +/- 1.1 (lumi.) nb is obtained for muons with transverse momentum greater than 4 GeV, and 5.12 +/- 0.03 (stat.) +/- 0.48 (syst.) +/- 0.20 (lumi.) nb for …
A measurement of the b-hadron production cross section in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV is presented. The dataset, corresponding to 85 inverse nanobarns, was recorded with the CMS experiment at the LHC using a low-threshold single-muon trigger. Events are selected by the presence of a muon with transverse momentum greater than 6 GeV with respect to the beam direction and pseudorapidity less than 2.1. The transverse momentum of the muon with respect to the closest jet discriminates events containing b hadrons from background. The inclusive b-hadron production cross section is presen…
The performance of the ATLAS muon trigger system is evaluated with proton-proton collision data collected in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. It is primarily evaluated using events containing a pair of muons from the decay of $Z$ bosons. The efficiency of the single-muon trigger is measured for muons with transverse momentum 25 < $p_T$ < 100 GeV, with a statistical uncertainty of less than 0.01% and a systematic uncertainty of 0.6%. The $p_T$ range for efficiency determination is extended by using muons from decays of $J/ψ$ mesons, $W$ bosons, and top quar…
A measurement is presented of the exclusive and semi-exclusive production of charged pion pairs in proton-proton collisions, pp to p(p*) + $π^+π^-$ + p(p*) here the $π^+π^-$ pair is emitted at central rapidities, and the scattered protons stay intact (p) or diffractively dissociate (p*) without detection. The measurement is performed with the CMS detector at the LHC, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 450 inverse microbarns collected at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The dipion cross section, measured for single-pion transverse momentum pt >0.2 GeV and rapidity…
We present a search for supersymmetry in the R-parity violating resonant production and decay of smuons and muon-sneutrinos in the channels smuon->neutralino_1 muon, smuon->neutralino_2 muon, and muon-sneutrino->chargino muon. We analyzed 0.38 fb^-1 of integrated luminosity collected between April 2002 and August 2004 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The observed number of events is in agreement with the standard model expectation, and we calculate 95% C.L. limits on the slepton production cross section times branching fraction to gaugino plus muon, as a function of slep…
The production of muons from heavy flavour decays is measured at forward rapidity in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV collected with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The analysis is carried out on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity $L_{\rm int} = 16.5$ nb$^{-1}$. The transverse momentum and rapidity differential production cross sections of muons from heavy flavour decays are measured in the rapidity range 2.5 < y < 4, over the transverse momentum range 2 < $p_{\rm T}$ < 12 GeV/$c$. The results are compared to predictions based on perturbative QCD calculation…
The measurement of the muon inclusive differential cross section dsigma/dpT in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector is presented. The analysis is performed in the pseudorapidity interval |eta|< 2.5 for muon of transverse momentum 4 < pT < 100 GeV and with an integrated luminosity of 1.4 pb-1. The result is compared with the next-to-leading order with next-to-leading log high pT resummation prediction for the heavy avour production and with MC@NLO prediction for W-Z bosons production. The measurement is sensitive for the first time to the next-to-leading log contribution to th…
The WZ associated diboson production is studied by measuring both inclusive cross section and, for the first time, the ratio between the $W^-Z$ and the $W^+Z$ cross sections. The measurements are performed using data samples of proton-proton collisions collected during the years 2011 and 2012, at 7 and 8 TeV of centre-of-mass energies, respectively, by the CMS experiment at the LHC, updating the 7 TeV cross section measurement available in CMS, and presenting the new cross section measurement in CMS at 8 TeV. The data sample used for the 7 TeV measurements correspond to an integrated luminosit…
The LHCb collaboration has measured central exclusive production of $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, and $Υ$ mesons as well as $J/ψJ/ψ$, $J/ψψ(2S)$, $ψ(2S)ψ(2S)$, and $χ_cχ_c$ meson pairs in proton-proton collisions. The analyses of $Υ$ and charmonium pairs are performed at the centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, and those of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ are done at 7 TeV and 13 TeV. The analysis at 13 TeV involves the use of new shower counters. These allow a reduction in the background by vetoing events with activity in an extended region in rapidity. The measurements of central exclusive production at LHCb are…
The B physics programme of the ATLAS experiment includes measurements of production cross sections, searches for rare B-decay signatures which are sensitive to new physics at the TeV energy scale and studies of CP violation effects in B-events, such as $B_{s}^{0}\rightarrow J/ψϕ$ and $B_{d}^{0}\rightarrow J/ψK_{s}^{0}$. The key to the detection of these B signals in ATLAS is to achieve a high trigger efficiency for low-$p_{T}$ di-muon events, whilst keeping an acceptable trigger rate. ATLAS developed two separate approaches for triggering on di-muon events from resonances such as $J/ψ$ and Ups…
A search for exclusive or quasi-exclusive gamma gamma to W+W- production, via pp to p(*) W+W- p(*) to p(*) mu+/- e-/+ at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV, is reported using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. Events are selected by requiring the presence of an electron-muon pair with large transverse momentum pt(mu+/- e-/+) > 30 GeV, and no associated charged particles detected from the same vertex. The 8 TeV results are combined with the previous 7 TeV results (obtained for 5.05 inverse femtobarns of data). In the signal region, 13 (2) events are observed over an expecte…
We present a measurement of the $\ttbar$ production cross section in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV using events containing a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. Events consistent with $\ttbar$ decay are found by identifying jets containing candidate heavy-flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The measurement uses a CDF Run II data sample corresponding to $2 \mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ of integrated luminosity. Based on 248 candidate events with three or more jets and an expected background of $79.5\pm5.3$ events, we measure a producti…
The 5.4 kton MINOS far detector has been taking charge-separated cosmic ray muon data since the beginning of August, 2003 at a depth of 2070 meters-water-equivalent in the Soudan Underground Laboratory, Minnesota, USA. The data with both forward and reversed magnetic field running configurations were combined to minimize systematic errors in the determination of the underground muon charge ratio. When averaged, two independent analyses find the charge ratio underground to be 1.374 +/- 0.004 (stat.) +0.012 -0.010(sys.). Using the map of the Soudan rock overburden, the muon momenta as measured u…
We present a search for a neutral particle, pair-produced in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, which decays into two muons and lives long enough to travel at least 5 cm before decaying. The analysis uses ~380 pb^-1 of data recorded with the D0 detector. The background is estimated to be about one event. No candidates are observed, and limits are set on the pair production cross section times branching fraction into dimuons + X for such particles. For a mass of 10 GeV and lifetime of 4x10^-11 s, we exclude values greater than 0.14 pb (95% C.L.). These results are used to limit the interpre…
At the LHC, muons are produced in many final states and used in a variety of analysis, such as Standard Model precision measurements and searches for new physics. The B-physics programme in ATLAS includes the measurement of CP violating effects in B meson decays, the search for rare b decay signatures, as well as the study of the production cross sections. The ATLAS detector can identify muons with high purity in a transverse momentum ($p_{T}$) range from a few GeV to several TeV. In order to achieve a high trigger efficiency for low $p_{T}$ di-muon events and at the same time keep an acceptab…
The ALEPH detector at LEP has been used to measure the momentum spectrum and charge ratio of vertical cosmic ray muons underground. The sea-level cosmic ray muon spectrum for momenta up to 2.5 TeV/c has been obtained by correcting for the overburden of 320 meter water equivalent (mwe). The results are compared with Monte Carlo models for air shower development in the atmosphere. From the analysis of the spectrum the total flux and the spectral index of the cosmic ray primaries is inferred. The charge ratio suggests a dominantly light composition of cosmic ray primaries with energies up to 10^1…
Neutrino radiation is expected to impose major design and siting constraints on many-TeV muon colliders. Previous predictions for radiation doses at TeV energy scales are briefly reviewed and then modified for extension to the many-TeV energy regime. The energy-cubed dependence of lower energy colliders is found to soften to an increase of slightly less than quadratic when averaged over the plane of the collider ring and slightly less than linear for the radiation hot spots downstream from straight sections in the collider ring. Despite this, the numerical values are judged to be sufficiently …
Searches for exclusively produced $W$ boson pairs in the process $pp(γγ) \rightarrow pW^+W^-p$ and exclusively produced Higgs boson in the process $pp(gg) \rightarrow pHp$ have been performed using $e^{\pm}μ^{\mp}$ final states. These measurements use 20.2 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions collected by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV at the LHC. Exclusive production of $W^+W^-$ consistent with the Standard Model prediction is found with 3.0$σ$ significance. The exclusive $W^+W^-$ production cross-section is determined to be $σ(γγ\rightarrow W^{+}W^{-}\rightarrow e^{…

Results from the CDF diffraction program include the single diffractive to non-diffractive ratio in dijet events, observation of exclusive $e^+e^-$ production via two-photon exchange, hints of exclusive $γγ$ production via Double Pomeron Exchange (DPE), and the observation of exclusive dijet production via DPE. A summary of the current plans for the DØ diffractive physics program is also presented.
We present a search for new high mass phenomena using the latest data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to 36.1 fb$^{-1}$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. The search is conducted for both resonant and non-resonant new phenomena in dimuon final states. The dimuon invariant mass spectrum is the discriminating variable used in the search. No significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed. Lower limits are set on the signal parameters of interest at 95% credibility level, using a Bayesian interpretation. In particular, a Sequential Standard Model Z' resonanc…
This paper presents a study of the performance of the muon reconstruction in the analysis of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV at the LHC, recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2010. This performance is described in terms of reconstruction and isolation efficiencies and momentum resolutions for different classes of reconstructed muons. The results are obtained from an analysis of J/$ψ$ meson and Z boson decays to dimuons, reconstructed from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 40~$pb^{-1}$. The measured performance is compared to Monte Carlo predictions and deviati…
An overview is given of muon collider technology and of the current status of the muon collider research program. The exciting potential of muon colliders for both neutrino physics and collider physics studies is then described and illustrated using self-consistent collider parameter sets at 0.1 TeV to 100 TeV center-of-mass energies.
The long-standing discrepancy of muon $g-2$ is a hint of new physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. In this letter we show that heavy new physics contribution can be fully tested at a muon collider with center-of-mass energy up to $O(10)\,$TeV. Even if there is no new particle in this energy range, one can measure the $g-2$ directly via the channel to a Higgs boson and a monochromatic photon.
The ATLAS detector at the LHC is used to search for excited electrons and excited muons in the channel pp -> ll* -> llgamma, assuming that excited leptons are produced via contact interactions. The analysis is based on 13 fb-1 of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. No evidence for excited leptons is found, and a limit is set at the 95% credibility level on the cross section times branching ratio as a function of the excited-lepton mass m_l*. For m_l* > 0.8 TeV, the respective upper limits on sigma*B(l* -> lgamma) are 0.75 fb and 0.90 fb for the e* and mu* searches. Limits on sig…
A search is performed for collimated muon pairs displaced from the primary vertex produced in the decay of long-lived neutral particles in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV centre-of-mass energy, with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. In a 1.9 fb-1 event sample collected during 2011, the observed data are consistent with the Standard Model background expectations. Limits on the product of the production cross section and the branching ratio of a Higgs boson decaying to hidden-sector neutral long-lived particles are derived as a function of the particles' mean lifetime.
We report a study of multi-muon events produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider and recorded by the CDFII detector. In a data set acquired with a dedicated dimuon trigger and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2100 pb^-1, we isolate a significant sample of events in which at least one of the muon candidates is produced outside of the beam pipe of radius 1.5cm. The production cross section and kinematics of events in which both muon candidates are produced inside the beam pipe are successfully modeled by known QCD processes which include heavy flavor production. In contrast, we are …

Integrated luminosities of 1.3 pb-1 and 1.4 pb-1 are used for the electron and muon measureme…
A search for new-physics resonances decaying into a lepton and a jet performed by the ATLAS experiment is presented. Scalar leptoquarks pair-produced in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV at the Large Hadron Collider are considered using an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$, corresponding to the full Run 2 dataset. They are searched for in events with two electrons or two muons and two or more jets, including jets identified as arising from the fragmentation of $c$- or $b$-quarks. The observed yield in each channel is consistent with the Standard Model background expectation. Leptoquark…
We present a measurement of the $\ttbar$ production cross section using $194 \mathrm{pb^{-1}}$ of CDF II data using events with a high transverse momentum electron or muon, three or more jets, and missing transverse energy. The measurement assumes 100% $t\to Wb$ branching fraction. Events consistent with $\ttbar$ decay are found by identifying jets containing heavy flavor semileptonic decays to muons. The dominant backgrounds are evaluated directly from the data. Based on 20 candidate events and an expected background of 9.5$\pm$1.1 events, we measure a production cross section of $5.3\pm3.3^{…
The production of exclusive $γγ\rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$ events in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb$^{-1}$. The measurement is performed for a dimuon invariant mass of 12 GeV $<m_{μ^+μ^-}<$ 70 GeV. The integrated cross-section is determined within a fiducial acceptance region of the ATLAS detector and differential cross-sections are measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are compared to theoretical predictions that include corrections…

With a sample of more than a hundred million $W$$\rightarrow$$μ$$ν$ events, the statistical precision is greatly improved in comparison to previous measurements. This new result can provide additional constraints on the parton distribution functions of the proton. This measurement is used together with the cross sections for inclusive deep inelastic ep scatterin…
A search for long-lived particles decaying into hadrons and at least one muon is presented. The analysis selects events that pass a muon or missing-transverse-momentum trigger and contain a displaced muon track and a displaced vertex. The analyzed dataset of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV was collected with the ATLAS detector and corresponds to 136 fb$^{-1}$. The search employs dedicated reconstruction techniques that significantly increase the sensitivity to long-lived particle decays that occur in the ATLAS inner detector. Background estimates for Standard Model processes an…
This article documents the muon reconstruction and identification efficiency obtained by the ATLAS experiment for 139 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV collected between 2015 and 2018 during Run 2 of the LHC. The increased instantaneous luminosity delivered by the LHC over this period required a reoptimisation of the criteria for the identification of prompt muons. Improved and newly developed algorithms were deployed to preserve high muon identification efficiency with a low misidentification rate and good momentum resolution. The availability of large samples of $Z\toμμ$ …
We present a search for excited and exotic muon states mu*, conducted using an integrated luminosity of 371 pb^{-1} of data collected in p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV at the Tevatron with the CDF II detector. We search for associated production of mu+mu* followed by the decay mu* -> mu+gamma, resulting in the mu+mu+gamma final state. We compare the data to model predictions as a function of the mass of the excited muon M(mu*), the compositeness energy scale Lambda, and the gauge coupling factor f. No signal above the standard model expectation is observed in the mu+gamma mass spectru…

In Pb-Pb collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}}= 2.76 TeV, the analysis of a data sample corresponding to an…
The exclusive photoproduction of $Υ$(1S), $Υ$(2S) and $Υ$(3S) mesons is studied in their leptonic ($μ^{+}μ^{-}$) decay modes, in ultraperipheral pPb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV. The data was recorded by the CMS experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $32.6$ nb$^{-1}$. The differential cross-section for $Υ$(n) states (n=1,2,3), has been measured as a function of transverse momentum squared $p_{T}^{2}$, and rapidity $y$. The $Υ$(1S) photoproduction cross-section is extracted in the region $|y|<2.2$ as a function of the photon-proton centre-of-mass energies $W_{γp}$, …
A search for pair-produced vector-like quarks decaying into a $Z$ boson and a third generation quark using 2015 and 2016 $pp$ collision data at $\sqrt{s}~=~13~$TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $36.1~$fb$^{-1}$, is presented. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation was found so lower exclusion limits at 95% confidence level were set on the vector-like quark masses at 1030 (1210) GeV for singlet (doublet) $T$ and 1010 (1140) GeV for singlet (doublet) $B$.

The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 $\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. With a sample of more than twenty million $W \rightarrow μν$ events, the statistical precision is greatly improved in comparison to previous measurements. These new results provide additional constraints on the parton distribution functions of the proton in the range of the Bjorken scaling variable $x$ from $10^{-3}$ to $10^{-1}$. These measurements ar…

In addition, a large missing transverse momentum and two or more energetic jets are required. At least one of the jets must be identified as originating from a b quark. The measured cross section, sigma_ttbar = 186+/- 13 (stat) +/- 20 (syst) +/- 7 (…
The search for central exclusive production of muon pairs is performed using the LHCb data acquired on 2011 ($\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV) and 2012 ($\sqrt{s} = 8$ TeV). Preliminary measurements of cross section using these samples are showed and a first comparison with theoretical previews is presented.
We measure the Lambda_b^0 lifetime in the fully reconstructed decay Lambda_b^0 -> J/psi Lambda^0 using 10.4 fb^-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. The lifetime of the topologically similar decay channel B^0 -> J/psi K^0_S is also measured. We obtain tau(Lambda_b^0) = 1.303 +- 0.075 (stat.) +- 0.035 (syst.) ps and tau(B^0) = 1.508 +- 0.025 (stat.) +- 0.043 (syst.) ps. Using these measurements, we determine the lifetime ratio of tau(Lambda_b^0)/tau(B^0) = 0.864 +- 0.052 (stat.) +- 0.033 (syst.).
