We introduce a strengthening of K-stability, based on filtrations of the homogeneous coordinate ring. This allows for considering certain limits of families of test-configurations, which arise naturally in several settings. We prove that if a manifold with no automorphisms admits a cscK metric, then it satisfies this stronger stability notion. We also discuss the relation with the birational transformations in the definition of b-stability.
We extend the notion of test module filtration introduced by Blickle for Cartier modules. We then show that this naturally defines a filtration on unit $F$-modules and prove that this filtration coincides with the notion of $V$-filtration introduced by Stadnik in the cases where he proved existence of his filtration. We also show that these filtrations do not coincide in general. Moreover, we show that for a smooth morphism $f: X \to Y$ test modules are preserved under $f^!$. We also give examples to show that this is not the case if $f$ is finite flat and tamely ramified along a smooth diviso…
Starting with the data of a curve of singularity types, we use the Legendre transform to construct weak geodesic rays in the space of locally bounded metrics on an ample line bundle L over a compact manifold. Using this we associate weak geodesics to suitable filtrations of the algebra of sections of L. In particular this works for the natural filtration coming from an algebraic test configuration, and we show how in this case we recover the weak geodesic ray of Phong-Sturm.
Let $R$ be a ring essentially of finite type over an $F$-finite field. Given an ideal $\mathfrak{a}$ and a principal Cartier module $M$ we introduce the notion of a $V$-filtration of $M$ along $\mathfrak{a}$. If $M$ is $F$-regular then this coincides with the test module filtration. We also show that the associated graded induces a functor $Gr^{[0,1]}$ from Cartier crystals to Cartier crystals supported on $V(\mathfrak{a})$. This functor commutes with finite pushforwards for principal ideals and with pullbacks along essentially étale morphisms. We also derive corresponding transformation rules…
On a K-unstable toric variety we show the existence of an optimal destabilising convex function. We show that if this is piecewise linear then it gives rise to a decomposition into semistable pieces analogous to the Harder-Narasimhan filtration of an unstable vector bundle. We also show that if the Calabi flow exists for all time on a toric variety then it minimises the Calabi functional. In this case the infimum of the Calabi functional is given by the supremum of the normalised Futaki invariants over all destabilising test-configurations, as predicted by a conjecture of Donaldson.
A polarized variety is K-stable if, for any test configuration, the Donaldson-Futaki invariant is positive. In this paper, inspired by classical geometric invariant theory, we describe the space of test configurations as a limit of a direct system of Tits buildings. We show that the Donaldson-Futaki invariant, conveniently normalized, is a continuous function on this space. We also introduce a pseudo-metric on the space of test configurations. Recall that K-stability can be enhanced by requiring that the Donaldson-Futaki invariant is positive on any admissible filtration of the co-ordinate rin…
We show that each direct summand of the associated graded module of the test module filtration $τ(M, f^λ)_{λ\geq 0}$ admits a natural Cartier structure. If $λ$ is an $F$-jumping number, then this Cartier structure is nilpotent on $τ(M, f^{λ-\varepsilon})/τ(M, f^λ)$ if and only if the denominator of $λ$ is divisible by $p$. We also show that these Cartier structures coincide with certain Cartier structures that are obtained by considering certain $\mathcal{D}$-modules associated to $M$ that were used to construct Bernstein-Sato polynomials. Moreover, we point out that the zeros of the Bernstein…
For a smooth projective variety X, let CH(X) be the Chow ring (with rational coefficients) of algebraic cycles modulo rational equivalence. The conjectures of Bloch and Beilinson predict the existence of a functorial ring filtration of CH(X). We want to investigate for which varieties this filtration splits, that is, comes from a graduation on CH(X) -- this occurs for K3 surfaces and, conjecturally, for abelian varieties. We observe that, though the Bloch-Beilinson filtration is only conjectural, the fact that it splits has some simple consequences which can be tested in concrete examples. Nam…
We associate to a test configuration of an ample line bundle a filtration of the section ring of the line bundle. Using the recent work of Boucksom-Chen we get a concave function on the Okounkov body whose law with respect to Lebesgue measure determines the asymptotic distribution of the weights of the test configuration. We show that this is a generalization of a well-known result in toric geometry. As an application, we prove that the pushforward of the Lebesgue measure on the Okounkov body is equal to a Duistermaat-Heckman measure of a certain deformation of the manifold. Via the Duisteraat…
For smooth test configurations, there always exist C^{1,1} geodesic rays in Kahler metric space parallel to the algebraic ray. The $\yen$ invariant agrees with Futaki invariant, at least under nice assumptions. Explicit examples in Toric cases are calculated. On simple test configurations, Donaldson's correspondence between HCMA solution and holomorphic disc family is extended.
We give a parametrization of test configurations in the sense of Donaldson via spherical buildings, and show the existence of "optimal" destabilizing test configurations for unstable varieties, in the wake of Mumford and Kempf. We also give an account of the recent slight amendment to definition of K-stability after Li-Xu, from two other viewpoints: from the one parameter subgroups and from the author's blow up formalism.
We construct extremal metrics on the total space of certain destabilising test configurations for strictly semistable Kähler manifolds. This produces infinitely many new examples of manifolds admitting extremal Kähler metrics. It also shows for such metrics a new phenomenon of jumping of the complex structure along fibres.
For any flat projective family $(\mX,\mL)\rightarrow C$ such that the generic fibre $\mX_η$ is a klt Q-Fano variety and $\mL|_{\mX_η}\sim_{Q}-K_{X_η}$, we use the techniques from the minimal model program (MMP) to modify the total family. The end product is a family such that every fiber is a klt Q-Fano variety. Moreover, we can prove that the Donaldson-Futaki invariants of the appearing models decrease. When the family is a test configuration of a fixed Fano variety $(X,-K_X)$, this implies Tian's conjecture: given $X$ a Fano manifold, to test its K-(semi, poly)stability, we only need to test…
Let $X$ be a compact complex manifold, $L\to X$ an ample line bundle over $X$, and ${\cal H}$ the space of all positively curved metrics on $L$. We show that a pair $(h_0,T)$ consisting of a point $h_0\in {\cal H}$ and a test configuration $T=({\cal L}\to {\cal X}\to {\bf C})$, canonically determines a weak geodesic ray $R(h_0,T)$ in ${\cal H}$ which emanates from $h_0$. Thus a test configuration behaves like a vector field on the space of Kähler potentials ${\cal H}$. We prove that $R$ is non-trivial if the ${\bf C}^\times$ action on $X_0$, the central fiber of $\cal X$, is non-trivial. The r…
We apply the integral formula of volumes to the family of graded linear series constructed from any test configuration. This solves the conjecture raised by Witt--Nyström so that the sequence of spectral measures for the induced $\mathbb{C}^*$-action on the central fiber converges to the canonical Duistermatt--Heckman measure defined by the associated weak geodesic ray. As a consequence, we show that the algebraic $p$-norm of the test configuration equals to the $L^p$-norm of tangent vectors. Using this result, We may give a natural energy theoretic explanation for the lower bound estimate on …
