The recently measured charge asymmetry of like-sign dimuon events by the D0 collaboration at Tevatron shows the 3.9 σ deviation from the standard model prediction. In order to solve this mismatch, we investigate the right-handed current contributions to $B_s-\bar{B}_s$ and $B_d-\bar{B}_d$ mixings which are the major source of the like-sign dimuon events in $b \bar{b}$ production in general left-right models without imposing manifest or pseudo-manifest left-right symmetry. We find the allowed region of new physics parameters satisfying the current experimental data.
The DØ collaboration has measured the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in $p \bar{p}$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The result is significantly different from the standard model expectation of CP violation in mixing. In this paper we consider the possible causes of this asymmetry and identify one standard model source not considered before. It decreases the discrepancy of the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry with the standard model prediction, although does not eliminate it completely.
We study the consequences of the large dimuon asymmetry observed at D0. Physics beyond the standard model (SM) in $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing is required to explain the data. We first present a detailed analysis for model independent constraints on physics beyond the SM, and then study the implications for theoretical models which modify the SM results in different ways, such as $Z'$ with FCNC and R-parity violating SUSY contributions.
The new physics required to explain the anomalies recently reported by the D0 and CDF collaborations, namely the top forward-backward asymmetry (FBA), the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in semileptonic b decay, and the CDF dijet excess, has to feature an amount of flavor symmetry in order to satisfy the severe constrains arising from flavor violation. In this paper we show that, once baryon number conservation is imposed, color & weak triplet scalars with hypercharge $Y=1/3$ can feature the required flavor structure as a consequence of standard model gauge invariance. The color & weak tripl…
A fourth chiral generation, with $m_{t^\prime}$ in the range $\sim (300 - 500)$ GeV and a moderate value of the CP-violating phase can explain the anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry observed recently by the D0 collaboration. The required parameters are found to be consistent with constraints from other $B$ and $K$ decays. The presence of such quarks, apart from being detectable in the early stages of the LHC, would also have important consequences in the electroweak symmetry breaking sector.
We reconsider the recent observation by the D0 experiment of a sizable like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry, highlighting that it could be affected by CP-violating New Physics contributions not only in Bd- and Bs-meson mixings, but also in semileptonic decays of b and c quarks producing muons. The D0, measurement could be reconciled with the Standard Model expectations for neutral-meson mixings, provided that the CP asymmetry in semileptonic b (c) decays reaches 0.3 % (1%). Such effects, which lie within the available (rather loose) experimental bounds, would be clear indications of New Physics a…
We confirm that in order to account for the recent DØ result of large like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry, a considerable large new physics effect in $Γ_{12}^s$ is required in addition to a large CP violating phase in $B_s -\bar{B}_s$ mixing. In the Randall-Sundrum model of warped geometry, where the fermion fields reside in the bulk, new sources of flavor and CP violation are obtained. We analyze the like-sign dimuon asymmetry in this class of model, as an example of the desired new physics. We show that the wrong charge asymmetry, $a_{sl}^s$, which is related to the dimuon asymmetry, is signif…
Exchange of unparticle stuff of dimension $d_\U$ with FCNC interaction can induce $M^{12,u}$ and $Γ^{12,u}$ causing meson and anti-meson mixing with the relation $Γ^{12,u}/M^{12,u} = 2 \tan(πd_\U)$. We show that this type of unparticle contribution can provide the much needed large $Γ^{12}_s$ to explain the recently observed anomalously large dimuon asymmetry in $B_s -\bar B_s$ system reported by D0 collaboration. The same interaction can also accommodate large mixing induced CP violation in $B_s \to J/ψϕ$ indicated by CDF and D0 data. Experimental data can provide constraints on the unparticl…
The D0 collaboration has reported a 3.2 σdeviation from the Standard Model (SM) prediction in the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry. New physics beyond the SM in B_s - \bar B_s mixing is needed to explain the data. In this paper, we investigate the possible extension of the SM with one generation color-triplet charged scalar as well as three generation Majorana fermions. We study the implications of the model on the D0's dimuon charge asymmetry as well as matter anti-matter asymmetry of the Universe.
We show that the recently measured 3.2 $σ$ deviations of the charge asymmetry of like-sign dimuon events from the standard model prediction by the D0 collaboration at Tevatron can be explained by introducing the anomalous right-handed top quark couplings. Combined analysis with the $\bs$ and $\bd$ mixings and $B \to X_s γ$ decays has been performed. We discuss how to discriminate the effects on the dimuon charge asymmetry of the anomalous $\tsW$ and $\tbW$ couplings.
The D0 Collaboration has reported an anomalous charge asymmetry in the production of same-sign muon pairs at the Fermilab Tevatron. The magnitude of this effect depends on the subtraction of several backgrounds, the most notable of which is due to kaons being misidentified as muons either through decays in flight or punch-through. The present authors suggested a check on such backgrounds consisting of a tight restriction on the muon impact parameter $b$, to confirm that this excess was indeed due to $B_{(s)}$ meson decays. The D0 Collaboration has performed a related check applying transverse …
The D0 Collaboration reported a 3.2sigma deviation from the standard model prediction in the like-sign dimuon asymmetry. Assuming that new physics contributes only to B_{d,s} mixing, we show that the data can be analyzed without using the theoretical calculation of ΔΓ_s, allowing for robust interpretations. We find that this framework gives a good fit to all measurements, including the recent CDF S_{ψϕ} result. The data allow universal new physics with similar contributions relative to the SM in the B_d and B_s systems, but favors a larger deviation in B_s than in B_d mixing. The general minim…
We analyze the puzzle of the dimuon CP asymmetry in B_s decays in two Higgs doublet models. We show that the flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) induced by the Higgs coupling in a type III two Higgs doublet model provides a solution to the dimuon charge asymmetry puzzle by enhancing the absorbtive part of the mixing amplitude Γ_{12}^s. We investigate different experimental constraints and show that it is possible to enhance Γ_{12}^s in order to explain the dimuon asymmetry observed by D0. This enhancement requires large Higgs couplings to the first and second generations of quarks which may…
The recent observation of the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in the B system by the D0 collaboration has 3.9 sigma deviation from the standard model prediction. However, the recent LHCb data on B-s neutral-meson mixing do not accommodate the D0 collaboration result. In this paper, considering the effect of Z'-mediated flavour-changing neutral currents in the $ B_q^0 - bar B_q^0$ (q = d, s) mixing, the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry is calculated. We find the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry is enhanced from its SM prediction and provides signals for new physics beyond the SM
New physics models that increase the decay rate of $B_s \to τ^+ τ^-$ contribute to the absorptive part of $B_s$--$\bar{B}_s$ mixing, and may enhance $ΔΓ_s$ all the way up to its current experimental bound. In particular, the model with a scalar leptoquark can lead to a significant violation of the expectation $ΔΓ_s \leq ΔΓ_s$ (SM). It can even allow regions in the $ΔΓ_s$-$β_s$ parameter space that are close to the best fit obtained by CDF and D\{O} through $B_s \to J/ψϕ$. In addition, it can help explain the anomalous like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry observed recently by DØ. A measurement of …
The existing predictions for the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry at the Tevatron are expressed in terms of parameters related to B mesons' mixing and inclusive production fractions. We show that in the realistic case when phase-space cuts are applied, the asymmetry depends also on the details of the production mechanism for the B mesons. In particular, it is sensitive to the difference in the fragmentation functions of B^0_d and B^0_s mesons. We estimate these fragmentation effects and find that they shift the theory prediction for this observable by approximately 10%. We also point out the …
The measurement of a large like-sign dimuon asymmetry $A^b_{SL}$ by the D0 experiment at the Tevatron departs noticeably from Standard Model expectations and it may be interpreted as a hint of physics beyond the Standard Model contributing to $ΔB\neq 0$ transitions. In this work we analyse how the natural suppression of $A^b_{SL}$ in the SM can be circumvented by New Physics. We consider generic Standard Model extensions where the charged current mixing matrix is enlarged with respect to the usual $3\times 3$ unitary Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, and show how, within this framework, a sign…
The D0 collaboration has announced the observation of the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry since 2010, which has more than 3σdeviation from the Standard Model prediction. One of the promising explanation is considering the existence of flavor changing Z' couplings to the b and s quarks which can contribute to the off-diagonal decay width in the B_s - \bar{B}_s mixing. Model construction is highly constrained by the recent LHCb data of 1fb^{-1} integrated luminosity . In this paper, we analyze the experimental constraints in constructing new physics models to explain the dimuon charge asymmetr…
We study the new physics (NP) implications of the recently reported 3.2 sigma Standard Model (SM) deviation in the like-sign dimuon asymmetry at the Tevatron. Assuming that new physics only enters the B(s) mixing amplitude we explore the implications for generic new physics, general supersymmetric (SUSY) models and also SUSY SU(5). In the case of SUSY SU(5) we exploit the GUT scale relationship between slepton and squark soft masses to predict rates for lepton flavour violation (LFV). The predicted rates for tau --> mu + gamma are found to be detectable at future Super-B factories.
We show that a contribution due to a second order amplitude with intermediate $\bar u d$ in a loop, which was claimed by Descotes-Genon and Kamenik to dominate the CP asymmetry in $b \to c \ell ν$, vanishes.
The measurement by the D0 collaboration of a large like-sign dimuon asymmetry deviates significantly from Standard Model expectations. New Physics may be invoked to account for such a deviation. We analyse how generic extensions of the Standard Model where the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa $3\times 3$ mixing matrix is enlarged can accommodate a significant enhancement of $A^b_{SL}$ with respect to standard expectations through enhancements of the individual semileptonic asymmetries $A^d_{SL}$ and $A^s_{SL}$ in the $B^0_d$-$\bar B^0_d$ and $B^0_s$-$\bar B^0_s$ systems. The potential enhancement rea…
The D0 Collaboration has reported an excess of roughly one percent of $μ^- μ^-$ pairs over $μ^+ μ^+$ pairs in $\bar p p$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, when known backgrounds are subtracted. This excess, if ascribed to CP violation in meson-antimeson mixing of non-strange or strange neutral $B$ mesons, is about 40 times that expected in the Standard Model (SM). We propose a null test, based on a tight restriction on the muon impact parameter $b$, to confirm that this excess is indeed due to $B$ mesons. If the asymmetry is due to anomalous …
Recently, the D0 collaboration reported a large CP violation in the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry which has the $3.2 σ$ deviation from the value estimated in the Standard Model. In this paper, several new physics models are considered: the MSSM, two Higgs doublet model, the recent dodeca model, and a new $Z'$ model. Generally, it is hard to achieve such a large CP violation consistently with other experimental constraints. We find that a scheme with extra non-anomalous U(1)$'$ gauge symmetry is barely consistent. In general, the extra $Z'$ gauge boson induces the flavor changing neutral cu…
Recently, the D0 Collaboration measured the CP-violating like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in neutral B decays, finding a 3.2sigma difference from the standard-model (SM) prediction. A non-SM charge asymmetry a_sl^s suggests a new-physics (NP) contribution to Bs-Bsbar mixing. In this case, in order to explain the measured value of a_sl^s within its 1sigma range, NP must be present in Gamma_12^s, the absorptive part of the mixing. In this paper, we examine whether such an explanation is possible in models with flavor-changing Z (ZFCNC) or Z' (Z'FCNC) gauge bosons. The models must also reproduce…
The like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry of the $B$ meson, which was reported in the D$Ø$ Collaboration, is studied in the SU(5) SUSY GUT model with $S_4$ flavor symmetry. Additional CP violating effects from the squark sector are discussed in $B_s-\bar B_s$ mixing process. The predicted like-sign charge asymmetry is in the 2$σ$ range of the combined result of D$Ø$ and CDF measurements. Since the SUSY contributions in the quark sector affect to the lepton sector because of the SU(5) GUT relation, two predictions are given in the leptonic processes: (i) both ${\rm BR}(μ\to e γ)$ and the electron E…
The D0 collaboration has recently announced evidence for a dimuon CP asymmetry in B_{d,s} decays of order one percent. If confirmed, this asymmetry requires new physics. We argue that for minimally flavor violating (MFV) new physics, and at low tan beta=v_u/v_d, there are only two four-quark operators (Q_{2,3}) that can provide the required CP violating effect. The scale of such new physics must lie below 260 GeV sqrt{tan beta}. The effect is universal in the B_s and B_d systems, leading to S_{psi K}~sin(2beta)-0.15 and S_{psi phi}~0.25. The effects on epsilon_K and on electric dipole moments …
An analysis from the D0 Collaboration measuring the charge asymmetry A^b_sl of like-sign dimuon events due to semileptonic b-hadron decays at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider is described. It differs by 3.2 standard deviations from the Standard Model prediction to provide first evidence of CPT-invariant anomalous CP violation in the mixing of neutral B mesons, and is compared to the CP-violating phase obtained from a D0 analysis of the time-dependent decay angles in B0_s -> J/psi phi. If CPT violation is allowed, the dimuon asymmetry also yields the first sensitivity to CPT violation in the B0_s…
Several baryons containing a heavy b-quark, the b-baryons, have been discovered. The charmless two-body decays of b-baryons can provide a new platform for CP violating studies in a similar way as charmless two-body decays of B-meson. In b-baryon decays there are new CP violating observable related to baryon polarization. We show that in the flavor $SU(3)$ limit there exist relations involve different combinations of the decay amplitudes compared with those in CP violating rate asymmetry. These new relations therefore provide interesting tests for the mechanism of CP in the standard model (SM) …
We consider a model where neutrinos interact with weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) as a possible explanation for the production of NuTeV's anomalous dimuon events. This model naturally produces the features reported by NuTeV, specifically the muon energy asymmetry and other kinematics. When combined with the NuTeV event selection criteria, this model predicts an expectation of zero events as observed in their other search channels. For the best agreement with data, the model requires a lower WIMP mass than conventionally expected, but one that is of current interest due to DAMA/LIB…
Motivated by the first measurement on $\mathcal{B}(B_s\toϕμ^+μ^-)$ by the CDF Collaboration, we study the supersymmetric effects in semi-leptonic $B_s\toϕμ^+μ^-$ decay. In our evaluations, we analyze the dependences of the dimuon invariant mass spectrum and the forward-backward asymmetry on relevant supersymmetric couplings in the MSSM with and without R-parity. The analyses show the new experimental upper limits of $\mathcal{B}(B_s\toμ^+μ^-)$ from the LHCb Collaboration could further improve the bounds on sneutrino exchange couplings and $(δ^u_{LL})_{23}$ as well as $(δ^d_{LL,RR})_{23}$ mass …
The CP violating asymmetry from the decay rates $H^\pm\to W^\pm h_1$ of charged Higgs bosons into the lightest neutral Higgs boson and a $W^\pm$ boson is calculated and discussed in the complex MSSM. The contributions from all complex phases are considered, especially from the top-squark trilinear coupling, which induces a large contribution to the CP asymmetry.
Recent evidence for a CP violating asymmetry in the semileptonic decays of B_s mesons cannot be accommodated within the Standard Model. Such an asymmetry can be explained by new physics contributions to Delta B=2 components of either the mass matrix or the decay matrix. We show that mixing with a hidden pseudoscalar meson with a mass around 5 GeV can result in a new CP violating contribution to the mixing and can resolve several anomalies in this system including the width difference, the average width and the charge asymmetry. We also discuss the effects of the hidden meson on other b physics…
Motivated by 3.9 sigma evidence of a CP-violating phase beyond the standard model in the like-sign dimuon asymmetry reported by DO, we examine the potential for two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs) to achieve successful electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) while explaining the dimuon anomaly. Our emphasis is on the minimal flavour violating 2HDM, but our numerical scans of model parameter space include type I and type II models as special cases. We incorporate relevant particle physics constraints, including electroweak precision data, b to s gamma, the neutron electric dipole moment, R_b, and perturba…
We propose a supersymmetric explanation for the anomalously high forward backward asymmetry in top pair production measured by CDF and D0. We suppose that it is due to the t-channel exchange of a right-handed sbottom which couples to d_R and t_R, as is present in the R-parity violating minimal supersymmetric standard model. We show that all Tevatron and LHC experiments' t tbar constraints may be respected for a sbottom mass between 300 and 1200 GeV, and a large Yukawa coupling >2.2, yielding A_{FB} up to 0.18. The non Standard Model contribution to the LHC charge asymmetry parameter is Delta A…
A non-universal axigluon in generalized chiral color models leads to flavor changing neutral currents (FCNCs) at tree level. We analyze phenomenologically the new contributions to $B_{q}$ (q=d, s) mixing and the related CP asymmetries (CPAs) that are generated by axigluon exchange. We find that although $Δm_{B_q}$ can give a strict constraint on the parameters of $b\to q$ transition, the precise measurement of $\sin2β_{J/ΨK^0}$ can further exclude the parameter space of $b\to d$ transition. The axigluon-mediated effects can enhance the like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry ${\cal A}^{b}_{s\ell}$ b…
We show that grand unified theories based on SO(10) generate naturally the next-to-leading baryon number violating operators of dimension seven. These operators, which violate B-L, lead to unconventional decays of the nucleon such as n -> e^-K^+, e^- π^+ and p -> νπ^+. In two-step breaking schemes of non-supersymmetric SO(10), nucleon lifetime for decays into these modes is found to be within reach of experiments. We also identify supersymmetric scenarios where these decays may be accessible, consistent with gauge coupling unification. Further, we show that the (B-L)-asymmetry generated in the…
In this paper, forward-backward asymmetry and differential cross section of top quark in flavor violating $Z'$ model up to $\mathscr{O}(α_s^2 α_X)$ at Tevatron are calculated. In order to account for the top observed large forward-backward asymmetry, the new coupling $g_X$ among $Z'$ and quarks will be not much less than strong coupling constant $g_s$. After including the new higher order correction, the differential cross section can fit the data better than those only including the leading contributions from $Z'$, while the forward-backward asymmetry is still in agreement with the measuremen…
We compute a net electric current during a first order EWPT arising from the asymmetric propagation of fermion chiral modes due to a CP-violating interaction with the Higgs. The interaction is quantified in terms of a CP-violating phase in the bubble wall that separate both false and true vacuum phases. We comment on the possibility of this current to generate a seed magnetic field and its implications for primordial magne- togenesis in the early Universe.
In the MSSM with complex parameters, loop corrections to the decay of a stop into a bottom quark and a chargino can lead to a CP violating decay rate asymmetry. We calculate this asymmetry at full one-loop level and perform a detailed numerical study, analyzing the dependence on the parameters and complex phases involved. If the stop can decay into a gluino, the self-energy and the vertex correction dominate due to the strong coupling. It is shown that the vertex contribution is always suppressed. We therefore give a simple approximate formula for the asymmetry. We account for the constraints …
The paper investigates contributions of $Z$, $W$ and $γ$ intermediate states to the parity-violating Moller scattering asymmetry up to two-loop level. Using the Yennie--Frautschi--Suura factorization form for amplitudes, we demonstrate that QED corrections, with an exception of vacuum-polarization effects, cancel at the asymmetry level. We obtain chiral amplitudes at Born, one-loop and partially at two-loop level: boxes with lepton self-energies, ladder boxes and decorated boxes. Our calculations are relevant for the ultra-precise 11 GeV MOLLER experiment planned at Jefferson Laboratory and fu…
