Let $E \ni x\mapsto A(x)$ be a $\mathscr{C}$-mapping with values unbounded normal operators with common domain of definition and compact resolvent. Here $\mathscr{C}$ stands for $C^\infty$, $C^ω$ (real analytic), $C^{[M]}$ (Denjoy--Carleman of Beurling or Roumieu type), $C^{0,1}$ (locally Lipschitz), or $C^{k,α}$. The parameter domain $E$ is either $\mathbb R$ or $\mathbb R^n$ or an infinite dimensional convenient vector space. We completely describe the $\mathscr{C}$-dependence on $x$ of the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors of $A(x)$. Thereby we extend previously known results for self-adjoint operators to normal operators, partly improve them, and show that they are best possible. For normal matrices $A(x)$ we obtain partly stronger results.
In this paper we consider a problem of the similarity of complex symmetric operators to perturbations of restrictions of normal operators. For a subclass of cyclic complex symmetric operators in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space we prove the similarity to rank-one perturbations of restrictions of normal operators. The main tools are a truncated moment problem in $\mathbb{C}$, and some objects similar to objects from the theory of spectral problems for Jacobi matrices.
For a separable complex Hilbert space $H$, we say that a bounded linear operator $T$ acting on $H$ is $C$-normal, where $C$ is a conjugation on $H$, if it satisfies $CT^*TC=TT^*$. For a normal operator, we give geometric conditions which guarantee that its rank-one perturbation is a $C$-normal for some conjugation $C$.
We consider generalized Hausdorff operators with positive definite and permutable perturbation matrices on Lebesgue spaces and prove that such operators are not Riesz operators provided they are non-zero.
In this paper, a sufficient condition for the existence of hyperinvariant subspace of compact perturbations of multiplication operators on some Banach spaces is presented. An interpretation of this result for compact perturbations of normal and diagonal operators on Hilbert space is also discussed. An improvement of a result of [FX12] for compact perturbations of diagonal operators is also obtained.
We prove that there exists a rank one perturbation of a unitary operator on a complex separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space which is hypercyclic.
Subject of the paper deals with the perturbation theory of linear operators acting in Hilbert space. For a certain class of perturbations the question is considered about existence of transformation operators implementing linear similarity of perturbed and unperturbed operators. In this context some results of complex analysis prove to be useful as well as the relationship with the theory of operator semi-groups.
A unitary operator $V$ and a rank $2$ operator $R$ acting on a Hilbert space $\H$ are constructed such that $V+R$ is hypercyclic. This answers affirmatively a question of Salas whether a finite rank perturbation of a hyponormal operator can be supercyclic.
Recently, S. Grivaux showed that there exists a rank one perturbation of a unitary operator in a Hilbert space which is hypercyclic. Another construction was suggested later by the first and the third authors. Here, using a functional model for rank one perturbations of singular unitary operators, we give yet another construction of hypercyclic rank one perturbation of a unitary operator. In particular, we show that any Carleson set on the circle can be the spectrum of a perturbed (hypercyclic) operator.
In this paper, we prove that every diagonal operator on a Hilbert space of which is of multiplicity one and has perfect spectrum admits a rank one perturbation without eigenvalues. This answers a question of Ionascu.
We consider a generalization of Hausdorff operators on Lebesgue spaces and under natural conditions prove that such an operator is not a Riesz operator provided it is non-zero. In particular, it cannot be represented as a sum of a quasinilpotent and compact operators.
We construct a functional model for rank one perturbations of compact normal operators acting in a certain Hilbert spaces of entire functions generalizing de Branges spaces. Using this model we study completeness and spectral synthesis problems for such perturbations. Previously, we developed the spectral theory of rank one perturbations in the selfadjoint case. In the present paper we extend and significantly simplify most of known results in the area. We also prove an Ordering Theorem for invariant subspaces with common spectral part. This result is essentially new even for rank one perturba…
The wark is a contribution to the functional calculus constructed by of the author and A. A. Atvinovskii of closed operators on Banach spaces. The calculus is based on Markov and related functions as symbols. Estimates of bounded perturbations of operator functions with respect to general operator ideal norms, operator Lipschitzness, moment inequality, Freshet operator differentiability, and Livshitz-Krein trace formulae have been considered.
Frame Theory has a great revolution in recent years. This Theory have been extended from Hilbert spaces to Hilbert $C^{\ast}$-modules. In this paper we consider the stability of continuous operator frame and continuous $K$-operator frames in Hilbert $C^{\ast}$-Modules under perturbation and we establish some properties
We characterize the commutant of the analytic Toeplitz operators modulo operators of Schatten-p-class on suitable multivariable domains. We show that a result of J. Xia on compact perturbations of Toeplitz operators on the unit disc remains true on strictly pseudoconvex and symmetric domains in C^n if the ideal of compact operators is replaced by the Schatten-p-classes with p strictly less than infinity.
Let $SS$ and $SC$ be the strictly singular and the strictly cosingular operators acting between Banach spaces, and let $PΦ_+$ and $PΦ_+$ be the perturbation classes for the upper and the lower semi-Fredholm operators. We study two classes of operators $ΦS$ and $ΦC$ that satisfy $SS\subset ΦS \subset PΦ_+$ and $SC\subset ΦC\subset PΦ_-$. We give some conditions under which these inclusions become equalities, from which we derive some positive solutions to the perturbation classes problem for semi-Fredholm operators.
We prove a general weak existence theorem for wave operators for hybrid normed ideal perturbations. We then use this result to prove the invariance of Lebesgue absolutely continuous parts of n-tuples of commuting hermitian operators under hybrid normed ideal perturbations from a class studied in the first paper of this series.
A general result on the structure and dimension of the root subspaces of a matrix or a linear operator under finite rank perturbations is proved: The increase of dimension from the $n$-th power of the kernel of the perturbed operator to the $(n+1)$-th power differs from the increase of dimension of the corresponding powers of the kernels of the unperturbed operator by at most the rank of the perturbation and this bound is sharp.
Unbounded composition operators in $L^2$-space over discrete measure spaces are investigated. Normal, formally normal and quasinormal composition operators acting in $L^2$-spaces of this kind are characterized.
Finite rank perturbations $T=N+K$ of a bounded normal operator $N$ on a separable Hilbert space are studied thanks to a natural functional model of $T$; in its turn the functional model solely relies on a perturbation matrix/ characteristic function previously defined by the second author. Function theoretic features of this perturbation matrix encode in a closed-form the spectral behavior of $T$. Under mild geometric conditions on the spectral measure of $N$ and some smoothness constraints on $K$ we show that the operator $T$ admits invariant subspaces, or even it is decomposable.
In this note, we provide some sufficient and necessary conditions for the core inverse of the perturbed operator to have the simplest possible expression. The results improve the recent work by H. Ma (Optimal perturbation bounds for the core inverse, Appl. Math. Comput. 336 (2018) 176-181.).
For p-subordinate perturbations of unbounded normal operators, the change of the spectrum is studied and spectral criteria for the existence of a Riesz basis with parentheses of root vectors are established. A Riesz basis without parentheses is obtained under an additional a priori assumption on the spectrum of the perturbed operator. The results are applied to two classes of block operator matrices.
The effect of matrix perturbations on the polar decomposition has been studied by several authors and various results are known. However, for operators between infinite-dimensional spaces the problem has not been considered so far. Here, we prove in particular that the partial isometry in the polar decomposition of an operator is stable under perturbations, given that kernel and range of original and perturbed operator satisfy a certain condition. In the matrix case, this condition is weaker than the usually imposed equal-rank condition. It includes the case of semi-Fredholm operators with agr…
Recently, Sophie Grivaux showed that there exists a rank one perturbation of a unitary operator in a Hilbert space which is hypercyclic. We give a similar construction using a functional model for rank one perturbations of singular unitary operators.
A new class of operators, larger than $C$-symmetric operators and different than normal one, named $C$--normal operators is introduced. Basic properties are given. Characterizations of this operators in finite dimensional spaces using a relation with conjugate normal matrices are presented.
Suppose $\mathcal{A}$ is a compact normal operator on a Hilbert space $H$ with certain lacunarity condition on the spectrum (which means, in particular, that its eigenvalues go to zero exponentially fast), and let $\mathcal{L}$ be its rank one perturbation. We show that either infinitely many moment equalities hold or the linear span of root vectors of $\mathcal{L}$, corresponding to non-zero eigenvalues, is of finite codimension in $H$. In contrast to classical results, we do not assume that the perturbation is weak.
Frame theory is recently an active research area in mathematics, computer science, and engineering with many exciting applications in a variety of different fields. In this paper, we firstly give a characterization of operator frame for $End_{\mathcal{A}}^{\ast}(\mathcal{H})$ and $K$-operator frames for $End_{\mathcal{A}}^{\ast}(\mathcal{H})$. Lastly we consider the stability of operator frame for $End_{\mathcal{A}}^{\ast}(\mathcal{H})$ and $K$-operator frames for $End_{\mathcal{A}}^{\ast}(\mathcal{H})$ under perturbation and we establish some results.
We consider a perturbation determinant for pairs of nonpositive (in a sense of Komatsu) operators on Banach space with nuclear difference and prove a generalization of the important formula for the logarithmic derivative of this determinant. To this end the Frechet differentiability of operator monotonic (negative complete Bernstein) functions of negative and nonpositive operators on Banach spaces is investigated. The results may be regarded as a contribution to the Hirsch functional calculus.
The theory of quaternionic operators has applications in several different fields such as quantum mechanics, fractional evolution problems, and quaternionic Schur analysis, just to name a few. The main difference between complex and quaternionic operator theory is based on the definition of spectrum. In fact, in quaternionic operator theory the classical notion of resolvent operator and the one of spectrum need to be replaced by the two $S$-resolvent operators and the $S$-spectrum. This is a consequence of the non-commutativity of the quaternionic setting. Indeed, the $S$-spectrum of a quatern…
A decomposition theorem for self-adjoint operators proved by Riesz and Lorch is extended to normal operators. This extension gives a new proof of the spectral theorem for unbounded normal operators.
We study spectral properties of one-dimensional singular perturbations of an unbounded selfadjoint operator and give criteria for the possibility to remove the whole spectrum by a perturbation of this type. A counterpart of our results for the case of bounded operators provides a complete description of compact selfadjoint operators whose rank one perturbation is a Volterra operator.
We give sufficient conditions on an asymptotic $\ell_p$ (for $1 < p < \infty$) Banach space which ensure the space admits an operator which is not a compact perturbation of a multiple of the identity. These conditions imply the existence of strictly singular non-compact operators on the HI spaces constructed by G. Androulakis and the author and by I. Deliyanni and A. Manoussakis. Additionally we show that under these same conditions on the space $X$, $\ell_\infty$ embeds isomorphically into the space of bounded linear operators on $X$.
The paper deals with (multidimensional and one-dimensional) Bochner-Phillips functional calculus. Bounded perturbations of Bernstein functions of (one or several commuting) semigroup generators on Banach spaces are considered, conditions for Lipschitzness and Frechet-differentiability of such functions are obtained, estimates for the norm of commutators are proved, and a generalization of Livschits-Kre\uın trace formula derived.
We study the trace class perturbations of the half-line, discrete Laplacian and obtain a new bound for the perturbation determinant of the corresponding non-self-adjoint Jacobi operator. Based on this bound, we obtain the Lieb--Thirring inequalities for such operators. The spectral enclosure for the discrete spectrum and embedded eigenvalues are also discussed.
Depending of the geometry of the domain, one can define --at least-- three different Stokes operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We describe how the resolvents of these Stokes operators converge with respect to a converging sequence of domains.
The characterization of normal truncated Toepltiz operators is first given by Chalendar and Timotin. We give an elementary proof of their result without using the algebraic properties of truncated Toeplitz operators.
We prove that an injective, not necessarily bounded weighted bilateral shift operator on $\ell^2(\mathbb{Z})$ is similar to a normal operator if and only if it is similar to a scalar multiple of the simple (i.e. unweighted) bilateral shift operator $S$.
A new sufficient condition is given for the sum of linear m-accretive operator and accretive operator one in a Hilbert space to be m-accretive. As an application, an extended result to the operator-norm error bound estimate for the exponential Trotter-Kato product formula is given.
The work is devoted to the study of Laplace operator when the potential is a singular generalized function and plays the role of a singular perturbation of a Laplace operator. Abstract theorem obtained earlier by the authors B.N. Biyarov and G.K. Abdrasheva applies to this. The main purpose of the study is the spectral issue. Singular perturbations for differential operators have been studied by many authors for the mathematical substantiation of solvable models of quantum mechanics, atomic physics, and solid state physics. In all these cases, the problems were self-adjoint. In this paper, we …
This is a survey article. We consider different problems in connection with the behavior of functions of operators under perturbations of operators. We deal with three classes of operators: unitary operators, self-adjoint operators, and contractions. We study operator Lipschitz and operator differentiable functions. We also study the behavior of functions under perturbations of an operator by an operator of Schatten--von Neumann class $\bS_p$ and apply the results to the Livschits--Krein and Koplienko--Neidhardt trace formulae. We also include in this survey article recent unexpected results o…
We consider an off-diagonal self-adjoint finite rank perturbation of a self-adjoint operator in a complex separable Hilbert space $\mathfrak{H}_0 \oplus \mathfrak{H}_1$, where $\mathfrak{H}_1$ is finite dimensional. We describe the singular spectrum of the perturbed operator and establish a connection with solutions to the operator Riccati equation. In particular, we prove existence results for solutions in the case where the whole Hilbert space is finite dimensional.
We introduce compactness classes of Hilbert space operators by grouping together all operators for which the associated singular values decay at a certain speed and establish upper bounds for the norm of the resolvent of operators belonging to a particular compactness class. As a consequence we obtain explicitly computable upper bounds for the Hausdorff distance of the spectra of two operators belonging to the same compactness class in terms of the distance of the two operators in operator norm.
We use recent results on the boundary behavior of Cauchy integrals to study the Krein spectral shift of a rank one perturbation problem for self-adjoint operators. As an application, we prove that all self-adjoint rank one perturbations of a self-adjoint operator are pure point if and only if the spectrum of the operator is countable. We also study pairs of pure point operators unitarily equivalent up to a rank one perturbation and give various examples of rank one perturbations of singular spectra.
Let $A$ and $B$ be two -non necessarily bounded- normal operators. We give new conditions making their product normal. We also generalize a result by Deutsch et al on normal products of matrices.
It is well known that the kernel of a Toeplitz operator is nearly invariant under the backward shift $S^*$. This paper shows that kernels of finite-rank perturbations of Toeplitz operators are nearly $S^*$-invariant with finite defect. This enables us to apply a recent theorem by Chalendar--Gallardo--Partington to represent the kernel in terms of backward shift-invariant subspaces, which we identify in several important cases.
The perturbation semigroup was first defined in the case of $*$-algebras by Chamseddine, Connes and van Suijlekom. In this paper, we take $\mathcal{E}$ as a concrete operator system with unit. We first give a definition of gauge group $\mathcal{G}(\mathcal{E})$ of $\mathcal{E}$, after that we give the definition of perturbation semigroup of $\mathcal{E}$, and the closed perturbation semigroup of $\mathcal{E}$ with respect to the Haagerup tensor norm. We also show that there is a continuous semigroup homomorphism from the closed perturbation semigroup to the collection of unital completely boun…
We are concerned with surjectivity of perturbations of maximal monotone operators in non-reflexive Banach spaces. While in a reflexive setting, a classical surjectivity result due to Rockafellar gives a necessary and sufficient condition to maximal monotonicity, in a non-reflexive space we characterize maximality using a ``enlarged'' version of the duality mapping, introduced previously by Gossez.
Affiliated and normal operators in octonion Hilbert spaces are studied. Theorems about their properties and of related algebras are demonstrated. Spectra of unbounded normal operators are investigated.
We study spectral properties of nonselfadjoint rank one perturbations of compact selfadjoint operators. The problems under consideration include completeness of eigenvectors, relations between completeness of the perturbed operator and its adjoint, and the spectral synthesis problem. We obtain new criteria for completeness and spectral synthesis in this class as well as a series of counterexamples which show that the spectral structure of rank one perturbations is, in general, unexpectedly rich and complicated. A parallel spectral theory is developed for one-dimensional singular perturbations …
