We present sixteen-component values "sedeons", generating associative noncommutative space-time algebra. The generalized second-order and first-order equations of relativistic quantum mechanics based on sedeonic wave function and sedeonic space-time operators are proposed. We also discuss the description of fields with massive quantum on the basis of second-order and first-order equations for sedeonic potentials.
In this work, we describe the geometric and probabilistic properties of a noncommutative 2- torus in a magnetic field. We study the volume invariance, integrated scalar curvature and volume form by using the method of perturbation by inner derivation of the magnetic Laplacian in the noncommutative 2-torus. Then, we analyze the magnetic stochastic process describing the motion of a particle subject to a uniform magnetic field on the noncommutative 2-torus, derive and discuss the related main properties.
We complete our previous recent review on noncommutative field theory, discussing in particular the constructive aproach to the Grosse-Wulkenhaar theory. We also suggest that by gluing together many Grosse-Wulkenhaar theories at high energy one can obtain an effective commutative field theory at lower energy.
We present some ideas for a possible Noncommutative Topological Quantum Field Theory (NCTQFT) and Noncommutative Floer Homology (NCFH). Our motivation is two-fold and it comes both from physics and mathematics: On the one hand we argue that NCTQFT is the correct mathematical framework for a quantum field theory of all known interactions in nature (including gravity). On the other hand we hope that a possible NCFH will apply to practically every 3-manifold (and not only to homology 3-spheres as ordinary Floer Homology currently does). The two motivations are closely related since, at least in t…
Irreducibility of the set of quantum field operators has been proved in noncommutative quantum field theory in the general case when time does not commute with spatial variables.
Within the context of the twisted Poincaré algebra, there exists no noncommutative analogue of the Minkowski space interpreted as the homogeneous space of the Poincaré group quotiented by the Lorentz group. The usual definition of commutative classical fields as sections of associated vector bundles on the homogeneous space does not generalise to the noncommutative setting, and the twisted Poincaré algebra does not act on noncommutative fields in a canonical way. We make a tentative proposal for the definition of noncommutative classical fields of any spin over the Moyal space, which has the d…
We construct an approximation to field theories on the noncommutative torus based on soliton projections and partial isometries which together form a matrix algebra of functions on the sum of two circles. The matrix quantum mechanics is applied to the perturbative dynamics of scalar field theory, to tachyon dynamics in string field theory, and to the Hamiltonian dynamics of noncommutative gauge theory in two dimensions. We also describe the adiabatic dynamics of solitons on the noncommutative torus and compare various classes of noncommutative solitons on the torus and the plane.
We give here the Hopf algebra structure describing the noncommutative renormalization of a recently introduced translation-invariant model on Moyal space. We define Hochschild one-cocyles $B_+^γ$ which allows us to write down the combinatorial Dyson-Schwinger equations for noncommutative quantum field theory. One- and two-loops examples are explicitly worked out.
It is shown that the $n$-point functions of scalar massive free fields on the noncommutative Minkowski space are distributions which are boundary values of analytic functions. Contrary to what one might expect, this construction does not provide a connection to the popular traditional Euclidean approach to noncommutative field theory (unless the time variable is assumed to commute). Instead, one finds Schwinger functions with twistings involving only momenta that are on the mass-shell. This explains why renormalization in the traditional Euclidean noncommutative framework crudely differs from …
In this paper we provide exact expressions for propagators of noncommutative Bosonic or Fermionic field theories after adding terms of the Grosse-Wulkenhaar type in order to ensure Langmann-Szabo covariance. We emphasize the new Fermionic case and we give in particular all necessary bounds for the multiscale analysis and renormalization of the noncommutative Gross-Neveu model.
The axiomatic approach based on Wightman functions is developed in noncommutative quantum field theory. We have proved that the main results of the axiomatic approach remain valid if the noncommutativity affects only the spatial variables.
We review the effects of strong background fields in noncommutative QED. Beginning with the noncommutative Maxwell and Dirac equations, we describe how combined noncommutative and strong field effects modify the propagation of fermions and photons. We extend these studies beyond the case of constant backgrounds by giving a new and revealing interpretation of the photon dispersion relation. Considering scattering in background fields, we then show that the noncommutative photon is primarily responsible for generating deviations from strong field QED results. Finally, we propose a new method for…
We review the construction of renormalizable noncommutative euclidean phi(4)-theories based on the UV/IR duality covariant modification of the standard field theory, and how the formalism can be extended to scalar field theories defined on noncommutative Minkowski space.
Haag's theorem was extended to noncommutative quantum field theory in a general case when time does not commute with spatial variables. It was proven that if S-matrix is equal to unity in one of two theories related by unitary transformation, then the corresponding one in another theory is equal to unity as well. In fact this result is valid in any SO(1,1) invariant quantum field theory, of which an important example is noncommutative quantum field theory.
We define some new invariants for 3-manifolds using the space of taut codim-1 foliations along with various techniques from noncommutative geometry. These invariants originate from our attempt to generalise Topological Quantum Field Theories in the Noncommutative geometry / topology realm.
We show that it is possible to construct a quantum field theory that is invariant under the translation of the noncommutative parameter $θ_{μν}$. This is realized in a noncommutative cohomological field theory. As an example, a noncommutative cohomological scalar field theory is constructed, and its partition function is calculated. The partition function is the Euler number of Gopakumar, Minwalla and Strominger (GMS) soliton space.
Within the framework of warped convolutions we deform the massless free scalar field. The deformation is performed by using the generators of the special conformal transformations. The investigation shows that the deformed field turns out to be wedge-local. Furthermore, it is shown that the spacetime induced by the deformation with the special conformal operators is nonconstant noncommutative. The noncommutativity is obtained by calculating the deformed commutator of the coordinates.
This paper is concerned with the quantum theory of noncommutative scalar fields in two dimensional space time. It is shown that the noncommutativity originates from the the deformation of symplectic structures. The quantization is performed and the modes expansions of the fields, in presence of an electro-magnetic background, are derived. The Hamiltonian of the theory is given and the degeneracies lifting, induced by the deformation, is also discussed.
Starting from the complete Mellin representation of Feynman amplitudes for noncommutative vulcanized scalar quantum field theory, introduced in a previous publication, we generalize to this theory the study of asymptotic behaviours under scaling of arbitrary subsets of external invariants of any Feynman amplitude. This is accomplished for both convergent and renormalized amplitudes.
We construct a gauge theory on a noncommutative homogeneous Kähler manifold, where we employ the deformation quantization with separation of variables for Kähler manifolds formulated by Karabegov. A key point in this construction is to obtaining vector fields which act as inner derivations for the deformation quantization. We show that these vector fields are the only Killing vector fields. We give an explicit construction of this gauge theory on noncommutative ${\mathbb C}P^N$ and noncommutative ${\mathbb C}H^N$.
In the last years noncommutative quantum mechanics has been investigated intensively. We consider the influence of magnetic field on decoherence of a system in the noncommutative quantum plane. Particularly, we point out a model in which the magnetic field allows {\it in situ} dynamical control of decoherence as well as, in principle, observation of noncommutativity.
We introduce the free quantum noncommutative fields as described by braided tensor products. The multiplication of such fields is decomposed into three operations, describing the multiplication in the algebra M of functions on noncommutative space-time, the product in the algebra H of deformed field oscillators, and the braiding by factor Psi_{M,H} between algebras M and H. For noncommutativity generated by the twist factor we shall employ the star-product realizations of the algebra M in terms of functions on standard Minkowski space. The covariance of single noncommutative quantum fields und…
The harmonic term in the scalar field theory on the Moyal space removes the UV-IR mixing, so that the theory is renormalizable to all orders. In this paper, we review the three principal interpretations of this harmonic term: the Langmann-Szabo duality, the superalgebraic approach and the noncommutative scalar curvature interpretation. Then, we show some deep relationship between these interpretations.
The space, on which quantum field operators are given, is constructed in any theory, in which the usual product between test functions is substituted by the $\star$-product (the Moyal-type product). The important example of such a theory is noncommutative quantum field theory (NC QFT). This construction is the key point in the derivation of the Wightman reconstruction theorem.
We consider the noncommutative space $\mathbb{R}^3_θ$, a deformation of $\mathbb{R}^3$ for which the star product is closed for the trace functional. We study one-loop IR and UV properties of the 2-point function for real and complex noncommutative scalar field theories with quartic interactions and Laplacian on $\mathbb{R}^3$ as kinetic operator. We find that the 2-point functions for these noncommutative scalar field theories have no IR singularities in the external momenta, indicating the absence of UV/IR mixing. We also find that the 2-point functions are UV finite with the deformation par…
A mathematical introduction to the classical solutions of noncommutative field theory is presented, with emphasis on how they may be understood as states of D-branes in Type II superstring theory. Both scalar field theory and gauge theory on Moyal spaces are extensively studied. Instantons in Yang-Mills theory on the two-dimensional noncommutative torus and the fuzzy sphere are also constructed. In some instances the connection to D-brane physics is provided by a mapping of noncommutative solitons into K-homology.
The focus of this PhD thesis is on applications, new developments and extensions of the noncommutative gravity theory proposed by Julius Wess and his group. In part one we propose an extension of the usual symmetry reduction procedure to noncommutative gravity. We classify in the case of abelian Drinfel'd twists all consistent deformations of spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmologies and of the Schwarzschild black hole. The deformed symmetry structure allows us to obtain exact solutions of the noncommutative Einstein equations in many of our models. In part two we develop a new for…
We propose the bosonization of a many-body fermion theory in D spatial dimensions through a noncommutative field theory on a (2D-1)-dimensional space. This theory leads to a chiral current algebra over the noncommutative space and reproduces the correct perturbative Hilbert space and excitation energies for the fermions. The validity of the method is demonstrated by bosonizing a two-dimensional gas of fermions in a harmonic trap.
We study classical scalar field theories on noncommutative curved spacetimes. Following the approach of Wess et al. [Classical Quantum Gravity 22 (2005), 3511 and Classical Quantum Gravity 23 (2006), 1883], we describe noncommutative spacetimes by using (Abelian) Drinfel'd twists and the associated *-products and *-differential geometry. In particular, we allow for position dependent noncommutativity and do not restrict ourselves to the Moyal-Weyl deformation. We construct action functionals for real scalar fields on noncommutative curved spacetimes, and derive the corresponding deformed wave …
It is shown by Connes, Douglas and Schwarz that gauge theory on noncommutative torus describes compactifications of M-theory to tori with constant background three-form field. This indicates that noncommutative gauge theories on more general manifolds also can be useful in string theory. We discuss a framework to noncommutative quantum gauge theory on Poisson manifolds by using the deformation quantization. The Kontsevich formula for the star product was given originally in terms of the perturbation expansion and it leads to a non-renormalizable quantum field theory. We discuss the nonperturba…
We report on a comprehensive analysis of the renormalization of noncommutative ϕ^4 scalar field theories on the Groenewold-Moyal (GM) plane. These scalar field theories are twisted Poincaré invariant. Our main results are that these scalar field theories are renormalizable, free of UV/IR mixing, possess the same fixed points and β-functions for the couplings as their commutative counterparts. We also argue that similar results hold true for any generic noncommutative field theory with polynomial interactions and involving only pure matter fields. A secondary aim of this work is to provide a co…
A notion of Cartan pairs as an analogy of vector fields in the realm of noncommutative geometry has been proposed in q-alg/9609011 In this paper we give an outline of the construction of a noncommutative analogy of the algebra of partial differential operators as well as its natural (Fock type) representation. We shall also define co-universal vector fields and covariant derivatives.
We construct some extension ({\it Stable Field Theory}) of Cohomological Field Theory. The Stable Field Theory is a system of homomorphisms to some vector spaces generated by spheres and disks with punctures. It is described by a formal tensor series, satisfying to some system of "differential equations". In points of convergence the tensor series generate special noncommutative analogues of Frobenius algebras, describing 'Open-Closed' Topological Field Theories.
We present a lattice formulation of noncommutative Yang-Mills theory in arbitrary even dimensionality. The UV/IR mixing characteristic of noncommutative field theories is demonstrated at a completely nonperturbative level. We prove a discrete Morita equivalence between ordinary Yang-Mills theory with multi-valued gauge fields and noncommutative Yang-Mills theory with periodic gauge fields. Using this equivalence, we show that generic noncommutative gauge theories in the continuum can be regularized nonperturbatively by means of {\it ordinary} lattice gauge theory with 't~Hooft flux. In the cas…
The energy spectrum of a nonrelativistic particle on a noncommutative sphere in the presence of a magnetic monopole field is calculated. The system is treated in the field theory language, in which the one-particle sector of a charged Schroedinger field coupled to a noncommutative U(1) gauge field is identified. It is shown that the Hamiltonian is essentially the angular momentum squared of the particle, but with a nontrivial scaling factor appearing, in agreement with the first-quantized canonical treatment of the problem. Monopole quantization is recovered and identified as the quantization …
General Relativity in the noncommutative spacetime of ${\cal M}^4 \times Z_2 \times Z_2$ is constructed based on a new type of fermions in addition to the known chiral quark-leptons. While this theory has a finite physical spectrum, all the known interactions of Nature and Higgs fields can be derived from it as components of gravity with only four free parameters.
A pedagogical and self-contained introduction to noncommutative quantum field theory is presented, with emphasis on those properties that are intimately tied to string theory and gravity. Topics covered include the Weyl-Wigner correspondence, noncommutative Feynman diagrams, UV/IR mixing, noncommutative Yang-Mills theory on infinite space and on the torus, Morita equivalences of noncommutative gauge theories, twisted reduced models, and an in-depth study of the gauge group of noncommutative Yang-Mills theory. Some of the more mathematical ideas and techniques of noncommutative geometry are als…
