It is shown that the $n$-point functions of scalar massive free fields on the noncommutative Minkowski space are distributions which are boundary values of analytic functions. Contrary to what one might expect, this construction does not provide a connection to the popular traditional Euclidean approach to noncommutative field theory (unless the time variable is assumed to commute). Instead, one finds Schwinger functions with twistings involving only momenta that are on the mass-shell. This explains why renormalization in the traditional Euclidean noncommutative framework crudely differs from renormalization in the Minkowskian regime.
We give here the Hopf algebra structure describing the noncommutative renormalization of a recently introduced translation-invariant model on Moyal space. We define Hochschild one-cocyles $B_+^γ$ which allows us to write down the combinatorial Dyson-Schwinger equations for noncommutative quantum field theory. One- and two-loops examples are explicitly worked out.
In previous work we have shown that the (θ->\infty)-limit of ϕ^4_4-quantum field theory on noncommutative Moyal space is an exactly solvable matrix model. In this paper we translate these results to position space. We show that the Schwinger functions are symmetric and invariant under the full Euclidean group. The Schwinger functions only depend on matrix correlation functions at coinciding indices per topological sector, and clustering is violated. We prove that Osterwalder-Schrader reflection positivity of the Schwinger two-point function is equivalent to the question whether the diagonal ma…
Several interacting models of chiral bosons and gauge fields are investigated on the noncommutative extended Minkowski spacetime which was recently proposed from a new point of view of disposing noncommutativity. The models include the bosonized chiral Schwinger model, the generalized chiral Schwinger model (GCSM) and its gauge invariant formulation. We establish the Lagrangian theories of the models, and then derive the Hamilton's equations in accordance with the Dirac's method and solve the equations of motion, and further analyze the self-duality of the Lagrangian theories in terms of the p…
In this paper we investigate the Schwinger parametric representation for the Feynman amplitudes of the recently discovered renormalizable $ϕ^4_4$ quantum field theory on the Moyal non commutative ${\mathbb R^4}$ space. This representation involves new {\it hyperbolic} polynomials which are the non-commutative analogs of the usual "Kirchoff" or "Symanzik" polynomials of commutative field theory, but contain richer topological information.
We compute here the Yang-Mills effective action on Moyal space by integrating over the scalar fields in a noncommutative scalar field theory with harmonic term, minimally coupled to an external gauge potential. We also explain the special regularisation scheme chosen here and give some links to the Schwinger parametric representation. Finally, we discuss the results obtained: a noncommutative possibly renormalisable Yang-Mills theory.
We review our recent construction of the $ϕ^4$-model on four-dimensional Moyal space. A milestone is the exact solution of the quartic matrix model $Z[E,J]=\int dΦ\exp(tr(JΦ- EΦ^2 -(λ/4) Φ^4))$ in terms of the solution of a non-linear equation for the 2-point function and the eigenvalues of $E$. The $β$-function vanishes identically. For the Moyal model, the theory of Carleman type singular integral equations reduces the construction to a fixed point problem. Its numerical solution reveals a second-order phase transition at $λ_c\approx-0.396$ and a phase transition of infinite order at $λ=0$. …
Anomalies are one essential concept for the renormalization of noncommutative (NC) gauge theories. A NC space can be visualized as a deformation of the usual spacetime with the $\star$-product and can be constructed after the quantization of a given space with its symplectic structure. The Seiberg-Witten (SW) map connects NC fields, transformations parameters and gauge potential to their commutative analogs. In this work we used the SW map to calculate the NC version of the anomaly of the BV quantized chiral Schwinger model with nonlocal regularization.
We prove the existence of a 1/N expansion in unitary multimatrix models which are Gibbs perturbations of the Haar measure, and express the expansion coefficients recursively in terms of the unique solution of a noncommutative initial value problem. The recursion obtained is closely related to the "topological recursion" which underlies the asymptotics of many random matrix ensembles and appears in diverse enumerative geometry problems, but has not previously appeared in the context of random unitary matrices. Our approach consists of two main ingredients: an asymptotic study of the Schwinger-D…
The closed Dyson-Schwinger equation for the 2-point function of the noncommutative $λϕ^4_2$-model is rearranged into the boundary value problem for a sectionally holomorphic function in two variables. We prove an exact formula for a solution in terms of Lambert's $W$-function. This solution is holomorphic in $λ$ inside a domain which contains $(-1/\log 4,\infty)$. Our methods include the Hilbert transform, perturbation series and Lagrange-Bürmann resummation.
We introduce the 3-colour noncommutative quantum field theory model in two dimensions. For this model we prove a generalised Ward-Takahashi identity, which is special to coloured noncommutative QFT models and has no underlying continuous symmetry. It reduces to the usual Ward-Takahashi identity in a particular case. The Ward-Takahashi identity is used to simplify the Schwinger-Dyson equations for the 2-point function and the N-point function. The absence of any renormalisation conditions in the large $(\mathcal{N},V)$-limit in 2D leads to a recursive integral equation for the 2-point function,…
We present some ideas for a possible Noncommutative Topological Quantum Field Theory (NCTQFT) and Noncommutative Floer Homology (NCFH). Our motivation is two-fold and it comes both from physics and mathematics: On the one hand we argue that NCTQFT is the correct mathematical framework for a quantum field theory of all known interactions in nature (including gravity). On the other hand we hope that a possible NCFH will apply to practically every 3-manifold (and not only to homology 3-spheres as ordinary Floer Homology currently does). The two motivations are closely related since, at least in t…
A recent method of constructing quantum mechanics in noncommutative coordinates, alternative to implying noncommutativity by means of star product is discussed. Within this approach we study Hall effect as well as quantum phases in noncommutative coordinates. The $θ$--deformed phases which we obtain are velocity independent.
Irreducibility of the set of quantum field operators has been proved in noncommutative quantum field theory in the general case when time does not commute with spatial variables.
The axiomatic approach based on Wightman functions is developed in noncommutative quantum field theory. We have proved that the main results of the axiomatic approach remain valid if the noncommutativity affects only the spatial variables.
We construct an approximation to field theories on the noncommutative torus based on soliton projections and partial isometries which together form a matrix algebra of functions on the sum of two circles. The matrix quantum mechanics is applied to the perturbative dynamics of scalar field theory, to tachyon dynamics in string field theory, and to the Hamiltonian dynamics of noncommutative gauge theory in two dimensions. We also describe the adiabatic dynamics of solitons on the noncommutative torus and compare various classes of noncommutative solitons on the torus and the plane.
Haag's theorem was extended to noncommutative quantum field theory in a general case when time does not commute with spatial variables. It was proven that if S-matrix is equal to unity in one of two theories related by unitary transformation, then the corresponding one in another theory is equal to unity as well. In fact this result is valid in any SO(1,1) invariant quantum field theory, of which an important example is noncommutative quantum field theory.
We consider topological groupoids in finite and also in a compact settings. In the initial sections, we introduce definitions of typical observables and we studied them in the context of statistical mechanics and quantum mechanics. We exhibit explicit examples and one of them will be the so-called quantum ratchet. This is related to Schwinger's algebra of selective measurements. Here we consider $\mathcal{G}$-kernels, transverse functions, modular functions, and quasi-invariant measures for Haar systems. Later we present our main result which is a version of Tannaka's theorem for Hausdorff com…
In this work we uncover the mathematical structure of the Schwinger algebra and introduce an almost unitary Schwinger operators which are derived by considering translation operators on a finite lattice. We calculate mathematical relations between these algebras and show that the almost unitary Schwinger operators are equivalent to the Schwinger algebra. We introduce new representations for MN(C) in terms of these algebras.
We formulate a Born rule for families of quantum systems parametrized by a noncommutative space of control parameters. The resulting formalism may be viewed as a generalization of quantum mechanics where overlaps take values in a noncommutative algebra, rather than in the complex numbers.
We define some new invariants for 3-manifolds using the space of taut codim-1 foliations along with various techniques from noncommutative geometry. These invariants originate from our attempt to generalise Topological Quantum Field Theories in the Noncommutative geometry / topology realm.
Rarita-Schwinger (RS) quantum free field is reexamined in the context of deformation quantization. It is found out that the subsidiary condition does not introduce any change either in the Wigner function or in other aspects of the deformation quantization formalism, in relation to the Dirac field case. This happens because the vector structure of the RS field imposes constraints on the space of wave function solutions and not on the operator structure. The RS propagator was also calculated within this formalism.
In this talk, we elaborate on the operation of graph contraction introduced by Gurau in his study of the Schwinger-Dyson equations. After a brief review of colored tensor models, we identify the Lie algebra appearing in the Schwinger-Dyson equations as a Lie algebra associated to a Hopf algebra of the Connes-Kreimer type. Then, we show how this operation also leads to an analogue of the Wilsonian flow for the effective action. Finally, we sketch how this formalism may be adapted to group field theories.
A new picture of Quantum Mechanics based on the theory of groupoids is presented. This picture provides the mathematical background for Schwinger's algebra of selective measurements and helps to understand its scope and eventual applications. In this first paper, the kinematical background is described using elementary notions from category theory, in particular the notion of 2-groupoids as well as their representations. Some basic results are presented, and the relation with the standard Dirac-Schrödinger and Born-Jordan-Heisenberg pictures are succinctly discussed.
In order to evaluate the Feynman path integral in noncommutative quantum mechanics, we consider properties of a Lagrangian related to a quadratic Hamiltonian with noncommutative spatial coordinates. A quantum-mechanical system with noncommutative coordinates is equivalent to another one with commutative coordinates. We found connection between quadratic classical Lagrangians of these two systems. We also shown that there is a subclass of quadratic Lagrangians, which includes harmonic oscillator and particle in a constant field, whose connection between ordinary and noncommutative regimes can b…
Noncommutative spacetimes are widely believed to model some properties of the quantum structure of spacetime at the Planck regime. In this contribution the construction of (anti-)de Sitter noncommutative spacetimes obtained through quantum groups is reviewed. In this approach the quantum deformation parameter $z$ is related to a Planck scale, and the cosmological constant $Λ$ plays the role of a second deformation parameter of geometric nature, whose limit $Λ\to 0$ provides the corresponding noncommutative Minkowski spacetimes.
This work gives value to the importance of Hilbert-Schmidt operators in the formulation of a noncommutative quantum theory. A system of charged particle in a constant magnetic field is investigated in this framework.
This paper is dedicated to present model independent results for noncommutative quantum mechanics. We determine sufficient conditions for the convergence of the Born series and, in the sequel, unitarity is proved in full generality.
We study the properties of quasi-distributions or Wigner measures in the context of noncommutative quantum mechanics. In particular, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for a phase-space function to be a noncommutative Wigner measure, for a Gaussian to be a noncommutative Wigner measure, and derive certain properties of the marginal distributions which are not shared by ordinary Wigner measures. Moreover, we derive the Robertson-Schrödinger uncertainty principle. Finally, we show explicitly how the set of noncommutative Wigner measures relates to the sets of Liouville and (commutativ…
We complete our previous recent review on noncommutative field theory, discussing in particular the constructive aproach to the Grosse-Wulkenhaar theory. We also suggest that by gluing together many Grosse-Wulkenhaar theories at high energy one can obtain an effective commutative field theory at lower energy.
We study quantum chains whose Hamiltonians are perturbations by bounded interactions of short range of a Hamiltonian that does not couple the degrees of freedom located at different sites of the chain and has a strictly positive energy gap above its ground-state energy. We prove that, for small values of a coupling constant, the spectral gap of the perturbed Hamiltonian above its ground-state energy is bounded from below by a positive constant uniformly in the length of the chain. In our proof we use a novel method based on local Lie-Schwinger conjugations of the Hamiltonians associated with c…
Using elements of symmetry, we constructed the Noncommutative Schrödinger Equation from a representation of Exotic Galilei Group. As consequence, we derive the Ehrenfest theorem using noncommutative coordinates. We also have showed others features of quantum mechanics in such a manifold. As an important result, we find out that a linear potential in the noncommutative Schrödinger equation is completely analogous to the ordinary case. We also worked with harmonic and anharmonic oscillators, giving corrections in the energy for each one.
In this short letter we review Schwinger's formulation of Quantum Mechanics and we argue that the mathematical structure behind Schwinger's "Symbolism of Atomic Measurements" is that of a groupoid. In this framework, both the Hilbert space (Schrödinger picture) and the $C^{*}$-algebra (Heisenberg picture) of the system turn out to be derived concepts, that is, they arise from the underlying groupoid structure.
A novel derivation of Feynman's sum-over-histories construction of the quantum propagator using the groupoidal description of Schwinger picture of Quantum Mechanics is presented. It is shown that such construction corresponds to the GNS representation of a natural family of states called Dirac-Feynman-Schwinger (DFS) states. Such states are obtained from a q-Lagrangian function $\ell$ on the groupoid of configurations of the system. The groupoid of histories of the system is constructed and the q-Lagrangian $\ell$ allow to define a DFS state on the algebra of the groupoid. The particular insta…
Together with collaborators, we introduced a noncommutative Riemannian geometry over Moyal algebras and systematically developed it for noncommutative spaces embedded in higher dimensions in the last few years. The theory was applied to construct a noncommutative version of general relativity, which is expected to capture some essential structural features of spacetime at the Planck scale. Examples of noncommutative spacetimes were investigated in detail. These include quantisations of plane-fronted gravitational waves, quantum Schwarzschild spacetime and Schwarzschild-de Sitter spacetime, and…
We study the noncommutative geometrical structures of quantum entangled states. We show that the space of a pure entangled state is a noncommutative space. In particular we show that by rewritten the conifold or the Segre variety we can get a $q$-deformed relation in noncommutative geometry. We generalized our construction into a multi-qubit state. We also in detail discuss the noncommutative geometrical structure of a three-qubit state.
Anderson's nonstandard construction of brownian motion as an infinitesimal random walk on the euclidean line is generalized to an Hausdorff riemannian manifold. A nonstandard Feynman-Kac formula holding on such an Hausdorff riemannian manifold is derived. Indications are given on how these (radically elementary) results could allow to formulate a nonstandard version of Stochastic Mechanics (avoiding both the explicitly discussed bugs of Internal Set Theory as well as the controversial renormalization of the stochastic action). It is anyway remarked how this would contribute to hide the basic f…
This is a review of concepts of noncommutative supergeometry - namely Hilbert superspace, C*-superalgebra, quantum supergroup - and corresponding results. In particular, we present applications of noncommutative supergeometry in harmonic analysis of Lie supergroups, non-formal deformation quantization of supermanifolds, quantum field theory on noncommutative spaces; and we give explicit examples such as deformation of flat superspaces, noncommutative supertori, solvable topological quantum supergroups.
We study quantum dynamical semigroups generated by noncommutative unbounded elliptic operators which can be written as Lindblad type unbounded generators. Under appropriate conditions, we first construct the minimal quantum dynamical semigroups for the generators and then use Chebotarev and Fagnola's sufficient conditions for conservativity to show that the semigroups are conservative.
In this paper we will present tha main features of what can be called Schwinger's foundational approach to Quantum Mechanics. The basic ingredients of this formulation are the \textit{selective measurements}, whose algebraic composition rules define a mathematical structure called groupoid, which is associated with any physical system. After the introduction of the basic axioms of a groupoid, the concepts of observables and states, statistical interpretation and evolution are derived. An example is finally introduced to support the theoretical description of this approach.
In this work we present a general formalism to treat non-Hermitian and noncommutative Hamiltonians. This is done employing the phase-space formalism of quantum mechanics, which allows to write a set of robust maps connecting the Hamitonians and the associated Wigner functions to the different Hilbert space structures, namely, those describing the non-Hermitian and noncommutative, Hermitian and noncommutative, and Hermitian and commutative systems. A general recipe is provided to obtain the expected values of the more general Hamiltonian. Finally, we apply our method to the harmonic oscillator …
A pedagogical and self-contained introduction to noncommutative quantum field theory is presented, with emphasis on those properties that are intimately tied to string theory and gravity. Topics covered include the Weyl-Wigner correspondence, noncommutative Feynman diagrams, UV/IR mixing, noncommutative Yang-Mills theory on infinite space and on the torus, Morita equivalences of noncommutative gauge theories, twisted reduced models, and an in-depth study of the gauge group of noncommutative Yang-Mills theory. Some of the more mathematical ideas and techniques of noncommutative geometry are als…
We begin with a review and analytical construction of quantum Gaussian process (and quantum Brownian motions) in the sense of [25],[10] and others, and then formulate and study in details (with a number of interesting examples) a definition of quantum Brownian motions on those noncommutative manifolds (a la Connes) which are quantum homogeneous spaces of their quantum isometry groups in the sense of [11]. We prove that bi-invariant quantum Brownian motion can be 'deformed' in a suitable sense. Moreover, we propose a noncommutative analogue of the well-known asymptotics of the exit time of clas…
